These people are complete morons...we ordered a $5 box of white rice...he asked us white and we said yes...so i go pay and the girl asks me what i ordered and i told her a bbq pork sandwich and five dollars of white rice, she says fried rice and i said no white rice, she turns to the kitchen and asks him how to charge me and he says ring up 5 dollars fried rice, i just assumed it was the same price so i didnt say anything, when i got home about an hour later we check it and it was fried rice!!!! We hate fried rice.... that went directly in the garbage and i will not go back to this establishment for anything,they are a bunch of idiots who dont pay attention!!! read more

wooohoo! so glad dragon ex exists to fulfill my pho cravings while traveling on business. sometimes i just can't eat non-asian food for 9 days straight. i seriously needed some soupy noodles in my stomach. why dragon ex is awesome: 1) service is excellent here, the food always come out promptly and hot. made to order. the owner is very attentive to customer needs. 2) variety: i took our team of 10 here 2x for lunch and everyone was able to find something they like, whether or not it's the express lunches (think panda express) or pho, everyone leaves dragon express with a stuffed tummy and smile on their face. 3) prices are reasonable: averages about $5-6 per person for lunch, and comes with great portions 4) excellent food: though i've only ordered the pho tai here (steak), but the pho was delicious! and i'm very hard to please with pho, but dragon express nailed it :) will definitely keep in mind next time i'm down in sd for work :) read more

Stopped in for lunch 4/3 and found the place clean, the staff friendly and the air full of nice aromas - something you don't get everywhere ;-) Tried the Garlic Shrimp (not really spicy but listed as such), Seafood Pho and the House wide noodles off the Viet side of the menu. I believe the food is MSG free EXCEPT for the pho. The pho has MSG. Be sure to verify that with the owners if you're concerned about MSG. What I have eaten: Vegetarian pho; Beef pho; Lo mein (from the trays and ordered fresh); eggplant tofu (from the trays and ordered fresh); garlic chicken; curry chicken; teriyaki; orange chicken; beef&broccoli; tofu spring rolls. How can I describe the taste of this magnificent dish? I'm practically serenading "The Way You Look Tonight" to the noodles because of how besotted I am. I follow the siren call of the noodles when I enter the place. There is one bathroom, it's a single-person bathroom, with plenty of room inside (you can fit a stroller in the room), and it has always been clean and pleasantly fragrant every time I've used it. There is a debit/credit card [0.45 or 0.55] fee if you're order is under $5. They have awesome meal deals: 2 choices for, like, $4.85 total, and 3 choices that's under $6. You are given plenty of food! The portions are generous. The two owners work the front. They are polite and friendly people. Dragon Express is located in a not-so-pretty plaza, so if you're new to the area, you may be put off from just the location. But go in and order the food! ***OH! Dragon is a great spot in the south bay food scene. The employees here are awesome and take care of you well. This was my first pho spot I ever frequented and from there I got hooked! The portions are massive and the broth is extremely flavorful. Also I recommend their Chinese food options as well, also something to be impressed by....especially their egg drop soup. 6 yrs ago, I lost my Pho virginity to this place. I've eaten here about 300 times bcz I used to live in the apartments behind it, & would have it almost everyday. Although its been years of trying other Pho's & seening their daughter grow up, I still make a trip to Dragon Express when I'm in the area & I always stock up on to-go when I'm there. Since then I've become a Pho connoisseur, literally being able to judge Pho based on the first spoon of broth. Lets be honest...a good broth is the best judgement of a good bowl of pho. And after trying the rest of the world's Pho in the last few years, u learn to appreciate Dragon's impeccable flavor. Even though I love food & variety.... In the last 6 years... I've only had their Pho, Curry, & Pork egg rolls. You're probably thinking "u used to eat there everyday & thats all u've f*cking had?" YES!!!! Bcz I have become severely addicted to the only things I tried in the very very beginning. So choose wisely, bcz you'll soon notice u'll get addicted to the first thing u try. Everything here was on point! Pho was bomb, Vietnamese pork egg rolls are the dogs nuts, and their salt & garlic chicken wings are the best in San Diego hands down. Yes I said the best wings in San Diego, when I find better ones I'll make sure to update my review. Best part about it is you can get yourself sauced up next door at On The Rocks before stuffing your face. Also you can come cure the hangover with some delicious pho and wings! Absolutely fantastic! Family of 5. My wife and I ordered chicken and combo beef pho, pork bahn mi sandwich, spring rolls. The kids (7,9,11) had the orange chicken and dragon house fried rice . Everything tasted great and arrived to the table rather quickly. The place was packed on a Monday night. There appeared to be a husband and wife team working in high gear to accommodate everybody including deliveries. Their two daughters sat nearby quietly coloring and smiling at our kids. All of the 4 and 5 star reviews are spot on. Those 1 and 2 star reviews, well, those people will complain about anything and everything. If you know Pho this place does it right. No! I was staying at the hotel next door (holiday inn) so I decided to try this place out. What a disappointment! Yes yes the owner is nice but the food isn't good. I went on a Saturday evening there was only 4 trays of Chinese food to choose from. No sesame seed chicken? Whaaaaat! Fine I was there already and didn't want to be rude by walking out. I got half/half and orange chicken. It was eh. I've had a lot lot better. Honestly idk why this place has such high rating. I was looking for pho in the area and came across this place. The reviews all seem so great so I decided to give it a try. All everyone sayd about this place is that its in a run down ghetto place. Thats definitely not the case. I ordered orange chicken, shrimp fried rice, y eggrolls, and large pho. My total came out to $35 a bit more than what i usually pay at my regular pho place. It was good but it wasnt the best like everyone says. Rice kinda tasted like it had been cooked since the morning and just sitting under heat. Orange chicken was ehh. The egg rolls where good. The pho was a big portion but it wasnt all that tasty it was missing lots of flavor. I was extremely disappointed since I was sick and pho was the only thing I was craving. I dont think i will be giving this place a second chance. I'll most likely stick to my original pho place even if its a bit further. read more

You really can't beat hot and fresh food and they do it right! I love that I can make any dish spicy that I want. I had the spicy orange chicken with fried rice and a side of chow mein. The noodles were fresh and soft with the delicious egg flavor and aroma that really told me they use great ingredients. The shrimp tempura was slightly over cooked, but not worth taking away a star. The only pho place in chula vista worth eating at. There broth is properly cooked without the excessive use of msg. The noodles is cooked to perfection which brings out the flavor of the broth. The meat is fresh and of very good quality. The tripe is cleaned well and very tender not chewy at all. The brisket is amazing just melts in your mouth. I ordered the Tempura Shrimp -- I received butterflied prawns (the frozen type). Highly disappointing. The chicken-chow mein was far too salty, and the rest of the food was no better than what you'd find in your grocer's freezer. Yes, the food is cheaper than most Chinese food places, but not by much. They closed my favorite Chinese restaurant in National City called Panda Palace, and I recently moved to Chula, so I was lost in life. LOL! Coming from San Francisco where I had quality Chinese food, I had to find a good Chinese restaurant that was similar. Panda Palace was the next best thing go SF for me. They closed. Luckily, I found this hidden gem. Food is on point. They serve both Chinese and Vietnamese food as well as take out. Dragon Express was my go to place for Chinese. They had decent prices..and decent portions....well, I was there last night and ordered my usual of Sweet and Sour Chicken...with fried rice...well, the guy there..Paul??? Gave me a bunch of double talk..to find out..my food was now ala cart...and twice as much money...and in these little cartons...I had to practically beg the lady for sweet and sour sauce..for the fried rice...When I did get the stuff home, there was no pinapple in the Sweet and Sour Chicken..which really ruined it for me and the fried rice was crunchy!!! It was horrible!##! That place now is a major rip-off and the owners are getting very greedy...well, they will NEVER see me there again... read more

Pho hasn't been this good to me since the first time pho noodles slithered into my mouth. Firstly, me and my girlfriend entered into the restaurant 30 minutes prior to close and I've never encountered such good service at an hour of shutdown. Secondly, food was brought out in a timely manner- bravo zulu and a job well done, nicely executed. Lastly, the pho. The firmness of the noodles reminded me of my girlfriends firm tush which exceeded my standards. The broth was succulent when the lime, and the basil and the cilantro, all unified but had their own part to play as if in a symphonic band, with many years of experience and practice. Now I would give it a 5 whole stars if it was not in a hole in a wall- but rather in a classic bow tie setting with ambient flames dancing to some smooth jazz. MASSIVE portions on combo items, you get more than what you pay for! Items change from day to day. Very fast too, delivery or dine-in, I do both. The owner Tom is very friendly and will do anything to make sure his customers are happy. Oh yeah, -best- spring rolls I've ever had! Incredibly fresh and very visually-appealing! Get them made to order to try them at their best. They're cheap too, my go-to for a cheap healthy lunch. The chicken curry is my favorite entree item, I get it more often than not. read more

You don't get that kind of service at a typical Asian restaurant. When I went to pay, the price came back more than what was posted. They told me the menus haven't been updated. I'd like to start off by saying that their food is very good and usually the portions are decent... it's the other BS that you have to deal with that makes this place very unattractive.... the two in there are extremely unpleasant they seem put out that anybody would come in there... but what really tip the scales for me is that I traveled from Bonita a few Saturdays ago and they were closed! I was hopping mad. I understand in a mom and pop store that emergency arise I think they have to go to some wedding or something... last week, once again I traveled from Bonita and their store was closed!
