I generally dislike Chinese food because most places usually use such low quality, sketchy ingredients, so for me to enjoy a meal at a Chinese restaurant is rarity. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by my meal at Dragon Light. It was a quality, tasty Chinese dinner at an incredibly reasonable price. My aunt and uncle insisted on taking me here for a big family dinner, claiming it was the best Chinese restaurant in town. I thought they were over-hyping the place, but really, it was pretty darn good! I had the sesame chicken dinner, which came with soup, egg roll, choice of rice, and a beverage, all for about $8. The egg drop soup had a nice flavor and the egg roll was stuffed full of meat and veggies (way better than the usual over-battered egg rolls with hardly any filling). My sesame chicken was great, not overly sweet with good quality chicken (not sketchy at all!), and had lots of meat and fresh steamed vegetables. The portions were a pleasant surprise as well. Maybe I had filled up on the huge bowl of soup and giant eggroll, but I was barely able to eat half of my portion of sesame chicken and ended up having to take the rest home. Service was also very good. Our waiter was an older guy who had clearly been there and done that, but he was efficient, fast, and managed to keep us on our toes with his joking around. Though pretty empty on the weekday night we visited, the place was clean and nicer than your average Chinese joint in terms of interior. Its amazing how cheap some of these Chinese restaurants are, as if they don't take inflation into consideration for pricing. Even though most of these Americanized Chinese eateries are all the same to me, Dragon Light seems better in my view while its quite popular among the Joliet area. Got a large chicken fried rice, large wonton soup, and batter-fried chicken tenderloin. The fried rice was rather tasty and had nice-sized white pieces, which fed me for two days. Even the wonton soup was above average as the noodles were delicate, perhaps they were housemade. The batter-fried chicken tenderloin had an appealing greasiness and texture, it had zero flavor as it wished they would have seasoned it or something. Wanted to try a new place. We were there on Saturday 12/21/2019. The person who seats was busy taking orders on the phone so it took a bit to get seated. One waitress for the whole floor so it took a while before our order was taken. Took awhile for the food to arrive. And when it came it was warm not hot. The shrimp was over cooked as well as the egg rolls. The food was nothing to rave about. Not worth the time to get there or the money spent. Won't be going back. I generally try to avoid Chinese food because it's typically rather greasy, salty and bland. That cannot be said for the Dragon Light. The food was beyond great. The beef was unbelievably tender and flavorful the prawns were numerous and large and the veggies were super fresh. With that said, living in Chicago as I do, and within close proximity to Chinatown, I still stand by the fact that Dragon Light is the superior Chinese restaurant, even beating out a whole neighborhood of Chinese. Had not been here for years until a couple months ago when we had great food and service. So we returned last Saturday. The basic food was still very good except for the soups which were strange tasting including my wonton and the vegetable soups ordered by my friends. The waiter was rude beyond belief but the kicker was when we noted to him that the mustard bottle was full of water -- like almost a cup of water poured out. He demonstrated to us what we should have done; he placed his germy thumb over the pour spout and shook the container. Gross. If, in fact, the mustard had separated that is a sign of it going bad. Otherwise, quite possibly they were adding water to the containers to "stretch" the condiment. read more

Normally lunch at Dragon Light is pretty good and fresh with economical pricing. Today's lunch was good except for one major problem. The problem is the server gave me a glass of water in which I drunked and the glass had lipstick all over the glass. I was gave another glass and that glass was dirty. I Finished eating and didnt drink anything else so how come the server asked for a tip. Like how can you ask for a tip and you served dirty glasses ? Some would of made a boisterous complaint and ask for a discount. This will be my last time patronizing that establishment. Will take my business to Chinese Restaurant in Romeoville on weber rd. Been going here for 25 years since they were located on Theodore, across the street from the library. By far, they have the best Chinese in the area. Also their lunch specials are a great deal! We tried it for lunch. The menu only had meals listed which I thought was fine. We ordered our two meals, each for under $6, Then we each got a bowls of soup and an egg rolls with our meal. The main courses were huge plates of shrimp stir fried rice and pork lo mien. We took half the food home with us and our lunch bill was $10.50. We would recommend this place for any one. They serve more than you can eat and a price that was unbelievable. It included a big pot of tea and fortune cookies too! read more

We use to love this place but on 2/13/18 it was awful! Broccoli and peppers way over cooked and fell apart, tasteless baby salad shrimp in Singapore noodles when it use to have flavorful regular shrimp and dry, not enough broth. This used to be my go to place for Chinese food, but over the last few years it's really changed. The egg rolls used to be THE resin for visiting. Called in an order and food was ready fairly fast. I pick it up in the time frame they gave so it hadn't sat around. Got to my vehicle and ate a pot sticker which were soggy. He said it was "...inside the bag" like he always said. He put "more" inside. Now, I knew better than to drive off without looking in the bag but I was tired and wanted to get home. When I arrived home and looked in the bag, there was ONE package of soy sauce (no joke) and FOUR hot mustard packages. Seriously. Really? Yes! That meant there was nothing in the bag before he added "more." It's laughable. He always has a look of annoyance when he's asked for things like condiments. Message to you if you're reading this: if your customers have bought a sizable amount of your food, why are you so pained to give what's needed? Without us, your business would fold. There's a new employee there or new to me, who seemed annoyed. She rushed after giving me my order and only recited one item that was in the bag, so I wasn't sure it was mine. I tried asking but she began talking to someone else. That's when he stepped in. Maybe she was annoyed with him? Ok, well, that's my review. I hope he gets better because yes, although I could and have purchased my own condiments, when I spend my hard-earned-cash-at-your-restaurant, I should be able to ask for condiments and not feel trepidation at having to do so. This restaurant was always the best til recently. I had my granddaughter over and just got out of the hospital so it was a special occasion. I ordered lunch delivered and it was $31 for 2. I had passed this place several times and finally decided to order some take out. I ordered curry chicken and an order of almond cookies. The large chicken is definitely large and comes with a side of rice. I recommend upgrading to a large rice. You'll probably need it to finish the box of chicken . My family has been eating at this restaurant for nearly 25 years. Always GREAT food, and the best service in town. Seriously, all restaurants in the area should learn good service from this place. Food is always perfect! In 25 years never a mistake! The place is not super fancy, but not dirty either. Food is always done super fast, and served in the proper order. Have been going here for years. This USED to be mine and my best friends favorite Chinese restaurant. We have been there 2 times in the past 30 days and both agree it is just not the same as it used to be. Let me start with the wait staff. We always go at lunch time and trust me it is not terribly busy. Literally as soon as we sit down they say "are you ready to order?" Then I was resting and talking to my friend and the lady said "I will box that for you." WTH?!?! Next the food. It is just ok now. The eggrolls at lunch are half the size of the dinner ones, which I get the lunch is cheap but just raise the price a little. I ordered egg foo young and it was burnt. I didn't even know you could burn that dish! Very unsatisfied all the way around. We are sad to say goodbye but we must move on. read more
