My water valves on the outside and inside of the house (washing machine area). They came and said that they would have to get the parts and come back. I said okay. Little did I know that the parts I needed are usually in their truck. I had to call them back, because they shut off the water and didn't turn it back on. In the meantime a friend was able to turn it back on. So I called and told them never mind. All of a sudden I see someone in my shed doing something and it was them. Never let me know that they came back. Said they were coming back the next day. I called because I did not hear from them and they said it would be around 3-4. Then I got another call that said around 6. I cancelled them, They were supposed to come out originally on Saturday and I got a call that said nobody was available. We had a leak in our master shower & called Drain Genie because they seemed to have good reviews online. They said they would waive the normal $119 service fee, but then wanted to charge me a $200 diagnostic fee because there would be 1 of 2 issues since it was a shower leak. The couldn't tell me how much each repair would be. I wasn't even asking for an exact cost, just a rough estimate. Am I looking at $100 or $1000? My husband ended up sending them away & we called another local plumber who came in same day, and figured out that the shower head arm was not screwed in tightly. Run from this company. They are predatory price gougers. We called for a simple clogged toilet. They did mention a $119 service call fee. When they arrived they inspected all bathrooms and offered a service to drain water heater. Once we declined they gave us a quote for $675, in addition to the service call fee. We pushed back and they "discounted" it by $30. It was after 6 pm and we waited most of the day so we reluctantly agreed. We did call the manager who justified this amount because they were licensed and had specific equipment. I only deal with licensed professionals that they all have service vans with special equipment. They are predatory price gougers, run away. Do not do business with them. Our entire neighborhood now knows not to call this establishment. Do the math of the amount I mentioned for a sales call with 30 minutes actually spent doing the job. My father in law clogged one of my toilets while he was visiting. After failed attempts with a plunger, a trip to the hardware store and a plumbers snake, professional help was required. I went on Yelp to find a reputable and fast plumber, and upon searching in my area, Drain Genie Plumbing Services came up, with a notice that said they typically respond within ten minutes of messaging. Within minutes after messaging them for a quote, I was contacted and we set up a service over the phone. I was quoted between $250-$385 for best/worst case scenario. We were prepared for the worst ! The plumber arrived within the hour as promised to me over the phone, and was able to fix the clogged toilet downstairs within an hour. After a minor overflow and downstairs mini flood (we were able to clean up with a few beach towels and avoided any damage), the toilet was fixed, and I was only charged $150 for the service. It was recommended that we also replace the flusher handle, however it was still working as it was, and this is a minor fix my husband can do himself. The plumber was fast, friendly, and professional. The ease of booking through the Yelp App would entice me to use this method to book future services as needed. Spent about 10 minutes punching some things into his tablet and then reviewed with me the services that are "set by the office and the techs have no control over". Over 400$ on a weekday at noon to snake a drain. I have had emergency service on Christmas Day for less than $400. My recommendation would be to use a company that does not rely on having a customer pay something up front then hit them with a large quote. Regarding an emergency, we had to shut our water off because a pipe broke. I was told someone would be calling me back shortly to set up an appointment 35 minutes later. I still had no phone call, so I called back to see what the status was. I was then told by another young lady that the dispatcher would be calling me immediately. Called Drain Genie for a price quote on repairing or replacing a garbage disposal. they wouldn't give us a range of pricing until they came out to check the GP. They arrived on schedule (it's the only reason they get a 1 star). Took one brief look (no more than 10 seconds) at the GP and then blew us away with a replacement cost well over all the estimates we've seen. The rep could not give us a break down of why the cost would be so high but immediately tried to sell us a membership of $20 a month ($240 a year) for a 20% discount and a unnecessary warrantee that still put the replacement much higher than other prices we had seen and would still end up paying well over $700 dollars for this replacement. I had used them in the past but it had been a few years since then, and we have a couple of other small plumbing jobs I would have used them for. Their inability to have transparency for their pricing, the immediate pivot to fleece me with some "membership" to achieve their better pricing is a huge red flag for me. The reps protestations that "we have the best reviews and everyone else is getting expensive" came off as some low level gaslighting by someone that's not a good or experienced salesperson and didn't truly wasnt a satisfactory defense of their policies and pricing.
