Drainworks was called and an appointment was made to do an assessment at my house for a $99 charge as we were having water back up in our showers. The technician arrived and assessed what was wrong, he gave us a very high quote and then wanted a one year membership. I told him I would need to get another quote as I did not feel the price they gave was fair for the job at hand. I had another quote before the agent even left my house. I told him I would have another company complete the services at 1/4 of the price drainworks wanted to charge. I knew i should have called the first company first but my day was filled and I took drainworks as they were available right away, come to find out the other company was available even quicker. Apparently drainworks was not happy that I did not agree to have them complete the work so they charged my card $500 dollars and tried to say over and over because the technician took equiempment out of his truck I had to pay the higher fee. From the second the technician came to our house I could tell right away what a scam this company was and I instantly regretted calling them. I called to office to explain that we did not want them to complete the work and i was not consenting to my card being charged for anything more than the agreed upon $99 assessment fee, and they all instantly ganged up on us stating that it would be $500 because the technician removed his tools from the truck to get ready to do the job, i mean i could go on and on with the scammy things they said and did- the worker even after being asked to leave our property started taking photos of his equipment out to try and make a point that he did work however the photos were taken after we told them we didn't want to the work done and the equipment that was out was for the assessment which we were happy to pay as that is what we agreed up. Drainworks has always been responsive. When I call to set to an appointment, it has been within a week which has been very convenient. The service tech John L. had quite the job as we had purchased the home and discovered that the previous owners never had the septic pumped in 19 years. He did a great job, communicated well with us on what he needed to do, and grass seeded the area dug up. Earlier this month, we also had them put in 2 risers which required digging 2.5 feet down. Abraham is a good plumber and great guy, BUT, The company is not. Watch out for predatory pricing especially on simple jobs. I was charged $1600 for a job that took 1 hour, had easy access and cost a maximum of $120 in materials. Skills employed were cutting 1/2 copper pipe, connecting a T and a 90 and a shut off valve to a bit of 1/2 copper pipe ( 2ft total) and installing a new outdoor facet. The original burst pipe was not fixed after the space it was in, was deemed challenging due to it being a crawl space basement, I did it later myself. The company claims not to charge by the hour but cannot justify its pricing when inquiry was made after serious buyers remorse. Kevin the office man employed classic techniques such as "bait and switch" and a good deal of gaslighting in an effort to steer the conversation in a direction that had nothing to do with pricing... and the fact that there was no justification for such a huge price tag. Clients feel pressure to do the job especially when time is a factor, the plumber is on site and call out fees have already accumulated. My Plumber Abraham was great and fixed some improperly installed pipes and in the process identified other issues. So today I had to have him back because I don't have hot water! I thought was because of the other day. But my instant hot water didn't work so I have company and I can kind of deal with it but they shouldn't! This water system was a problem for the very same reason. But none of this was Drainworks fault. They had a plumber out to my house quickly and I still wish they could fix it! I don't usually post reviews, good or bad. But this company, Drainworks, needs a dose of reality mixed with all of the good reviews. And they need to stop sending me marketing materials that claim that I am a happy customer, which I'm certainly not. A Drainworks tech came to our house in June to look at our basement toilet and evacuation pump, which wasn't working correctly. We had a similar problem about five years ago and the plumber took the pump apart and adjusted the float. He charged us $100. Even though I told the tech the history, and without taking anything apart he claimed that the whole pump needed to be replaced. He said that he would call me later with a quote. We never heard from him or the company again, even though I emailed the company to find out the status and to let them know that I wasn't a happy customer. I did a little research myself and found out that the replacement pump would cost over $1000 (plus installation). But I was able to buy just the pump float mechanism for $100. Long story short, I'm 75 and not too fond of plumbing. But I removed the toilet, cleaned the pump and replaced the float mechanism myself in a few hours. Toilet and pump are working fine. It's been more than a month and I still haven't heard back from Drainworks. I guess it is $150 down the drain. read more

Caught them tying runoff to storm drains without a permit. As a neighbor I had every right to inquire especially since the runoff drains to my property. Worker and owner were both rude and insulting. Company has been issued a warning from PURA as they did not report to CBYD properly. This has been reported to the town and proper proof and permits must be presented or they will be facing fines. read more

although our first visit from Drainworks was satisfactory, we had a separate issue about 2 weeks later. The technician told us that in order to get rid of the clog, he'd need to remove the toilet. he did, fixed the clog, and charged us 500.00. The very next day we noticed that directly below that upstairs toilet, our ceiling in the living and dining rooms has big water stains. we called Drainworks, they came out and said that there was a bolt that needed to be replaced in the toilet- and they'd charge us 600.00 to do it! we sent the plumber away. my husband looked at a video and fixed the bolt himself. This company does not take responsibility for any mistakes or consequences! The customer service team is rude and disrespectful. we will never use them again! read more

Problem not fixed - quoted $600 to repair a running toilet or $1200 to replace. After some discussion $300 was charged to replace a $30. part and it took 30 minutes. Several calls to the office - always pleasant and understanding but no real solution. We ended up fixing a simple problem ourselves by using Youtube and Google. Why couldn't the plumber fix it? We are out $300 and received only a promotional certificate in the mail. Please spend less money on your big colorful mailings and send capable people at reasonable charges. The appointment was given the same day, I had notification via text and email about approximate time of arrival. The technician, Stephan came even a bit earlier. This was a big deal, since he managed to come 10 minutes before 5 pm. He arranged with the office for me not to pay emergency fee, which always helps. The repair was prompt, area left very clean. How are these people getting good reviews? They just ripped me off royally. $729 to install a toilet I purchased which took them an hour to install. The price was upped when they found it was a rental unit I own. Apparently a necessary "rental fee" because it is more complicated working there? My own house needs a toilet downstairs and I'll be damned before I ever call these people again. Called a very well regarded service in Glastonbury and was quoted $209 for first hour then $159 an hour after that. So it should cost less than a third of what drainworks charges. Maybe because I'm a woman? HIghway robbery. read more

They came the same day I called. I was without a water pump for 2 weeks. I reviewed all the things I did including any new parts such as pressure switch and a pressure gauge with an extension that I paid for and installed.. The plumber arrived and gave me an estimate of $932.00 to make the repair (including $86.00) for dispatch costs. Of course, my definition of an estimate and the general public's definition of an estimate is different than Drainworks Plumbing & Septic of Colchester, CT.. Apparently, an estimate is their final total costs to repair the pump, no matter what he needed to do, or how long it took. The plumber was professional and since I needed the pump cleaned, I agreed to pay it even though I expressed my opinion that $400 an hour seems excessive (he was here for two hours). The person who answered the phone later, when I thought how much it cost, said the manager would call me in the morning. He did not. However, the plumber who did the work called me. Contacted this company to clear out a frozen line and informed then over the phone while setting up the appointment that it seemed to be due to a frozen line outside the home. They inform me it shouldn't be an issue and that there's a $70 driver show up fee. When they get there they tell you they will drop the $70 but now once they are there inform you thay there's a flat rate of $495 which was $200 more expensive then any other place. The company from the start will entrap you into paying them either way. After a 10 min "attempt" he states that they don't and can't clear out frozen line which I had informed the receptionist before the appointment was even made. After leaving I contacted the owner who was not about to try to work with me to come to some sort of agreement.  So from the start this company is going to lie to you and entrap you into paying them one war or the other and when you don't like the lack of service they will throw you aside and treat you like everything is your fault. I will never recommend this company to anyone ever due to the lack of integrity this company has when things go sideways on top of the price which they wouldn't tell me over the phone but rather say the technician will give me the price after looking at the job. read more
