If you CARE about your HAIR, don't DARE! Tried to be positive, give the benefit of doubt, even waited to write this, but no, this is officially THE WORST HAIRCUT I have ever received, and that's big considering I have let students, non-professionals, and even myself cut it in the past. Only go here if you know for sure you'll get exactly what you're asking for, or willing to take the risk. If its because its cheap, you're possibly better off watching Youtube and cutting it yourself (or a careful friend). I'm not afraid to spend money on my hair; to date have spent thousands, but I wanted a simple trim for dead ends, 1-2" tops, until I was ready for a proper cut in a few months (its long but trying to regrow to a certain length). So I chanced upon their good reviews, walk-in deal, and tried it out. I was told by the receptionist it would be 10-15 mins wait. I also asked how long the cut itself would take, "35 mins." Did the math in my head and figured I could do it. If she said it would be longer, I would've come back later or another day. Not in a rush, but was dog-sitting for a friend and wouldn't have minded coming back after she came home. Probably unintentional, but I waited almost 45 minutes before any word. I did see stylists without clients for the duration of my wait. I understand if they had appointments coming in & didn't wanna be tied up, but multiple? I could've been done and out of their hair (hah) if someone took me when I came. I was a little upset that I hadn't been told a more accurate wait time, nor updated, (I just felt misinformed. If she said longer, I could've made a more informed choice to stay or not). The stylist, VIRGO, was really nice, so I decided to just get over the wait. I explained to her exactly this "I would like to keep the length, as much as possible, but get rid of the dead ends. If you need to reshape it a little that's ok, but keep the length." She showed me a proposed amount more than I initially agreed to but I'm realistic, so I said if you need to for the health of it, that's ok, but please not more. Pretty simple task, I thought, maybe only second to a straight across trim or complete buzz cut.
No red flags until I noticed my hair felt a lot lighter than it should have for only about 2-3" (what I was shown) to be cut. I didn't say anything. It was when I saw her cutting, then coming back to sections to cut even more, sometimes up to an inch at a time, that I started to worry. AND, it was only one side of my head. When she said she was finished, I asked politely if it was even. I hadn't seen her put nearly as much work in on the other side. She showed me in a spotty hand mirror, the back of my head, but my hair's dark and my cape dark. Wet, couldn't tell how even it was. But it wasn't painfully obvious. Besides at least 4" shorter (up to 6" for layers) than when I arrived. A blowdry wasn't included in my service, which is totally ok, but most (good) stylists check their work with a rough dry. She blew the dryer at the front of my head for a few seconds. Already, I felt more than a little troubled. It bothers me a bit when a stylist assumes that because hair is long, we can afford to lose more of it. If that much hair were cut from someone with shorter hair, it would've been a drastic change. And no, having longer hair didn't mean mine grows faster, it still grows the same average speed, it's just that I set out a goal to have it long, so take care of it in various was. Lopping it off takes just as long, if not longer, to grow back. There's more to work with than say, someone with a pixie or bob, but that doesn't mean just have a field day with it and cut as much as you want!
When I went to check out, I was calculating price plus tip. I've never not tipped so I wouldn't even think of not doing it, even if not 100% happy. They don't allow tips on card. Cash only (closest ATM 2 blocks away) or Venmo, which I prefer to use only with close friends and family. I stepped out, it was raining, my hair was super wet, and decided I wouldn't walk 4 blocks for the ATM, so I would ask someone to Venmo her later.
Later, I notice one side of it has a piece cut short. ONE SIDE. Right in front of my face. I gave myself a blow out and noticed complete unevenness. And, drumroll please, one side shorter & more layered than the other. The side that I suspected she cut too much. I should've spoken up. It wasn't right or fair. I was devastated. It's not "just" hair, its part of a personality. An identity. And for some people, even an energy source. And if anyone knows that, a stylist would. Not only did I have far more cut than I wanted, I'll have to pay what I should have to go elsewhere and cut MORE. Right before I go on a 2-wk trip. If I don't get it cut in time, I'll probably have to do my best to hide the imperfections or never take any pictures. I felt bad never sending a tip, but here's another kind of tip. PLEASE RE-CONSIDER getting your haircut here! read more
