Haircuts take around an hour, but coloring services can take over 3 hours and are hard to book. You can book haircuts kind of last minute but book coloring a month in advance if you can!

While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

I was a bit disappointed to see that it looked nothing like the picture and it was fake rose petals which I thought was weird. I'll give them an A for effort though although it looked nothing like the picture. The massage was amazing. She did a really great job. Most of my massages are pretty rough but she did a great job with light to medium pressure. I really liked the glass of champagne and the chocolate truffles. The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.

I came in wanting a Japanese straightening as well as a significant haircut, and wasn't sure which one I'd need to get first. I'm a long-time client of Cherry for regular cuts, and had an appointment with her because I suspected I'd need the cut first. Turns out I was wrong--I should've made an appointment with Traffic for the straightening first (Cherry doesn't do them). I was devastated bc was DESPERATE to get the straightening done that day. Enter Traffic. I'd never met him before, but he agreed to weave me in for the straightening between several of his scheduled clients. I was instantly a fan. I also really appreciated that neither Cherry nor Traffic tried to persuade me to stick with my curls, which is ALL that people seem to be able to do with regard to my super-curly hair (which I have always despised, and which I blame for most of my problems in life). I said I wanted it, and they did it. Thank you! I was so relieved to not have to convince either of them that I WAS indeed ready and that I DO indeed know this treatment will kill my curls. I was thrilled for the first few days before I washed it--I had the limp, passive hair I'd wanted for all of my 32 years, and which all other methods of straightening had failed to acheive. Then when I washed it I still had mostly-straight hair, which was good enough for me. I don't blame the not-complete-straightness on Traffic, I blame it on the fact that I opted for an affordable venue rather than getting one of the $700 straightening jobs I'd heard about from more upscale places. Anyway, Traffic is a genius and has changed my life. As has Cherry. I wanted a cut that was choppy, edgy, gender-neutral, daring. Again, I've had other stylists give me a hard time by insisting I don't actually want this, but Cherry gladly went to work, and produced nothing short of a masterpiece. That is NOT a tribute to my hair, but only to Cherry. I felt--and feel, a month later--like a new person. I get SO many compliments on my haircut. She was able to collate about 10 photos I'd brought, and to create a hybrid that suits my face. If you want a master stylist, see Cherry. If you want an affordable Japanese Straightening, see Traffic. Both are down to earth, efficient and honest. After having a few different barbers over the course of a year, I was left very unsatisfied with how my hair looked, felt, and styled. And at the worst point, after repeated directions as to what kind of style I was looking for, the barber proceeded to just make up their own idea of what I wanted just to move on to the next paying costumer. I felt ignored and so discussed with the haircut that I even paid another barber to trim off my hair down to the scalp to remove what was left of a mangled haircut. Doing my research and with a few visits to local salons, I kept having a very positive and welcoming feeling when ever I stepped into my local Dramatics salon. They were very helpful with their advice and recommendations. I even had a hair consult with one of their top stylist for men that suggested one of his associates that specializes in curly men's hair. I waited the suggested time for my hair to grow back for my first official with haircut with my new stylist. I booked the appointment and when the time came to meet her, I was more then pleased. She gave me a very worm welcome and said that her name was Hollywood. We then proceeded to sit down and talk about what kind of style I was looking for as well as to educate me on the type of hair I have. After a few minutes we came up with a plan to slowly transition the hair to a new style while treating it with a homecare solution to regain its health. Well over a year and a few dozen cuts later, I am still with Hollywood at my local Upper West Side location. I couldn't be happier with Hollywood as my stylist. She is insightful, knowledge about the latest hair trends, provides useful tips and feedback on the health of your hair, and has a very worm and welcoming style of treating you more then just a paying costumer. She is by far the best hairstylist I have ever had and feel truly thankful to her and her advice regarding my haircuts. If you are a looking to upgrade your style, thinking of swapping that barber for a stylist, or even in despite need of repair from a failed encounter from the trimmer-kind, I highly recommend you to visit the Upper West Side Dramatics location for a consult. Yesterday was my second haircut at Dramatics with Virgo! I have lived in the city for 7 years, and I FINALLY have found someone who I really trust with my hair. She started the conversation before my first visit by asking me what bothers me about my hair and what I love. This guided the conversation and the cut! I ended up taking 8-9 inches off, getting layers, long bangs, and keratin treatment on the edges of my hair to keep the flyaways in check. She addressed all of my concerns and took extra time out of her schedule to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. I LOVED it. Returned a few months later (yesterday) and totally changed my style again. I actually used a picture that I took right after my first haircut with her to give her a reminder, but asked for a shorter back. She spent 45 minutes perfecting the angles/layers, and thinned out my hair perfectly for an angled bob. LOVE IT AGAIN. And...it's ACTUALLY affordable. My cut yesterday was $55. I came in today as a walk in, despite the mixed reviews this place. I wanted a quick and cheap haircut at a no frills salon, and my expectations were exceeded. Violet was my stylist, and she was just wonderful! This is probably the best haircut I've had in a while, though I'm not particularly high maintenance or attached to my hair. She listened very closely to what I wanted, and it became clear both of us were on the same page and thinking the same thing. I am in the middle of growing out a blunt shoulder length cut from a little while back, so I wanted a little off the length with some soft layers and face framing, and what I got was a fabulous 60's inspired do. Everyone I spoke to was very friendly, fun, and casual, which is what I look for. I'm not into stuffy people cutting my hair. I got Lucky! Literally. She's an incredibly talented hair stylist who understood exactly what I wanted, and I usually don't get the luxury of that experience at a hair salon. She was quick, she was dexterous with those clippers, she fixed my botched up bangs, and, unlike other hair stylists who can't seem to respect the concept of a trim, she still managed to keep my hair at a respectable length. I am extremely paranoid about my hair and although, from time to time, I experiment with different hair salons (which- spoiler alert- always end in disappointment), I only blindly trust this one place that I've been visiting since I was 4 (I'm now 30). But I recently moved to the US and it didn't make sense for me to take an 18 hour flight back to India just for a haircut. So I went to Dramatics and I am so glad that I did! I've been seeing Amber for years, and two weeks ago, she once again WOW'd me when she corrected a very extreme color (magenta) I had put on my dark blonde hair as a lark, the results (of her correction) being a FANTASTIC light ash blonde with vague hints of pink, and she gave me a perfect cut. She can work with many types of hair. I feel she is far beyond just a skilled professional. I think she is an absolute artist, particularly once she knows the client and his/her hair well. She's never pushy with her input, ALWAYS receptive and open, and she is someone I consider a friend. The vibe at the shop is friendly. It's a workplace, after all, but it's a nice atmosphere. I plan on going there as long as I live on the Upper West Side. My husband goes to Havana, and she's also amazing with his hair, and the NICEST person! read more

My ends were fried by a bad home straightening job - I was in a panic and knew I needed help fast but didn't want to end up with an overall 1 inch cut - l called Dramatics on Broadway and 92nd Street in the morning and was able to book an appt for 11:30am - I was nervous going in however my stylist, Havana, immediately made me feel welcome and confident that she would be able to help - she really listened to what I didn't want - I left shortly thereafter with a great cut that complimented my features, was not too short, and made my hair look shiny and healthy. Worst haircut and blowout of my life. It was my first time there so I showed Charm FOUR photos of what I wanted: just a TRIM and loose beachy waves. She cut my hair way too short (well above my shoulders when it was well past my shoulders.....I cried after I left) and she gave me tight ringlet curls that made me look like Shirley Temple. I sat patiently during the curling process because she told me she would pull them apart at the end for the loose wave look, but obviously that didn't work. Even the woman who checked me out after told me how different I looked when all I wanted was a trim and wavy blowout. It was a horrible experience. I ran home and washed my hair immediately and had to blow it out myself. Will have to grow it out for months now to get it back to the length I wanted. read more

Y'all. Virgo hooked me up. I walked in for a simple trim/cut and she asked me what was going on with my highlights. I told her my long, sad story that I was beach blonde and that I tried to go back to my natural hair color but the colorist I saw (different place and location) couldn't match my roots, which is why my hair looked grown out. She said she could fix it. I seriously, seriously doubted her, because I had already paid 500+ at another place just trying to get the blonde out of my hair. I reluctantly agreed - and I'm so glad I did. Not only did she match my roots and I now look like myself again, she gave me a PHENOMENAL haircut. Ever since I met Luna at Dramatics on 91st and Broadway I have stayed clear of going to anybody else for my color correction and cuts. She is seriously the best in the game. The first time I came to her my hair was ruined. The stylist misunderstood what I wanted and just bleached half of my head for a blonde ombre look. Luna worked on my hair for hours and fixed it! I've been going to her ever since and every time I redo my color and get a cut with her I fall in love with her creation. She listens to exactly what I want and is overall a lovely person to be around. I love her so much she is the one and only person who has touched my hair in the past two years! Once I had her I never went back to the others. TO ALL WAVY-HAIRED GIRLS & GUYS... Cherry is my girl! Been seeing her for probably 8 years for cut & color. My hair is naturally wavy, Bon Jovi 80's hair. An expensive stylist years ago (not Dramatics) once told me that I just need to keep my hair short because there was no way to work with it at mid or long-length. ...Until I was introduced to Cherry. I've been wearing mostly mid-length ever since. I am usually asked about my hair a few times per month in the park, at work, or on the streets. I've been going to Dramatics UWS for about four years. Traffic has been a wonderful person to work with. He is very professional and understands hair well. I trust very few people with my hair, but Traffic has always proven great! I have gotten to the point where I tell him to do what he wants to my hair and what he thinks will look good, and he has yet to disappoint. I've been coming to this location for over three years now. I've always had positive experiences. Everyone is friendly and extremely hospitable. They all go out of their way to make me feel comfortable. For the past year I've been consistently making appointments with stylist, Luna. She cuts my hair exactly the way I ask while also bringing her own ideas and great sense of style and technique. Luna is meticulous and a perfectionist in her execution. Dramatics on Bdwy is the BOMB!!! Everyone there is super nice and always professional. Celso is great-always willing to help with anything and is super friendly!! My husband had been getting his hair cur by Havana for years, always raving about her. He urged me to go to her to have my hair cut and colored, but I always resisted, insisting on going to my usual salons, including one that specializes in curly hair. When I moved to this neighborhood more than a month ago, I was so happy to note that there is Dramatics salon close by. I have been there a few times and every one is so friendly and professional. I had a haircut a couple of times by Lulu and it was the best haircut I have ever had, ever. Lulu was so personable and professional while it is often not easy with my curly hair , she did a fantastic job and I would highly recommend Lulu anytime you need a great haircut. I've been coming to Dramatics for about 20 years and specifically to the Upper West side location for the past two. I've been a long time fan of this company for it's consistency and reasonable prices. The staff is always friendly and lively and the atmosphere comfortable. For the past year I've been seeing the stylist Traffic. He's excellent. Very easy-going and friendly. Really takes his time and also seems to take great pride in his work and professionalism. You usually can get a great haircut by just doing a walk-in but if you're looking to develop a relationship with a stylist, I highly recommend Traffic. read more

When Virgo first cut, colored and restyled my hair in January 2018, I was more than impressed. She is nothing short of AMAZING! I am truly a demanding customer when it comes to color, cut and style. Alas, very few of barbershop haircuts were clean and even. I decided I needed to put up a bit more cash if I wanted proper results. Salon 601 isn't cheap, but Ronen takes his time with your hair. Shampoo and conditioner is typical with every cut. He then gently blowdries your hair instead of slapping you with a wet towel. When you and your head are ready for a trim, Ronen spins your body this way and that, tilting your head at various angles in the light, all to ensure he provides an even shape. He isn't limited to one tool either, he's dextrous with the scissors, thinning shears, shaver, etc. If you have special instructions, Ronen is excellent at listening to you. But better than that, he will provide insight and new ideas as to what might look best. If you don't like it, he won't force it down your throat. Salon 601 is clean, neat, and modern and more people are discovering its virtues. That's good for the business, but not so good for my last-minute appointments. The only downside I can think of is the salon is tucked under the flowershop off of Broadway, on W 112th. The upside, I can still get a same-day appointment.

I used the bathroom and waited until he was ready for me. Upon being seated in a salon chair, I showed him my inspo cut: a long, angled bob. He told me he couldn't do it as it was "too drastic." I have straight Asian hair, a bit past my shoulders and quite thin. I don't understand how a long angled bob is beyond the skill set of a salon proprietor. I left beyond disappointed and super confused--was it a race thing? I called a salon 12 blocks away and got an immediate appointment. Within 40 minutes I was shampooed, my hair cut and blown out, dry cut for shape and precision, and even photographed. I'm in my mid 40s and having worked in the beauty industry, I'm knowledgeable about styling and realistic when it comes to hair expectations. I don't recommend this salon at all.
