I do not normally give negative reviews but in this case it could not be avoided. I was a long time customer and had always paid a certain price for highlights when one day as I was checking out they told me at the front desk that I owed them more than three times what I normally paid! I was surprise so I asked the colorist and she said it was the front desk that sets the prices so I asked the front desk and they told me it is the colorist that sets the price... no one wanted to take accountability. I was angry and disappointed to be treated so poorly! Had someone informed me that the prices had gone up I probably would have agreed to stay. They do not seem to value their clients very highly if they treat them so poorly. Clients should be treated better than this... Very disappointing experience. They clearly do not know a a bout how to value a customer. read more

Worst haircut in my life. I went in asking for a blunt, chin-length bob, showing Ronald 10-15 pictures of likes/dislikes of short bob cuts (e.g., yes to blunt, no to tapering in back, length, etc.). After my coloring by a different stylist, Ronald proceeded to give me a 1990s Rachel cut -- hair almost to my shoulders, tapered/short in front (so damage already done when I realized), and some curling/50s flipping out at the bottom. I was in such shock that I didn't confront him. It's not just not what I asked for - it's objectively an awful, dated haircut. Avoid Ronald at all costs. I'm sorry I paid but I didn't want to make a scene. read more

BEST SALON ON THE UWS! I have been going to Jeffrey Stein Salon for nearly 2 decades and so have many of my friends (who are also willing to travel back into NYC for the best hair). I have read some of the nasty reviews and felt compelled to spend the time to set the record straight from an existing and long term client... I also happen to have undeniable beautiful hair and take no credit for it.. I leave that to Elaina for color and Albert for cut and the most stunning blow outs! The pricing at Jeffrey Stein is beyond reasonable! I would use the "cheap" word but that just takes away from my particularly expensive -looking hair. :-) Noteworthy is that in the event my "people" mentioned above are out and I need an emergency fix, the team works amazing together and help each-other out... My first encounter with that salon went sooo great! Stella did an amazing job on my hair! This time after rescheduling my appointments (due to Covid-19), I was personally recommended by Jeffrey Stein himself to Elena (colorist), and another stylist (I forgot her name) It started off pleasant (W/Elena), showed her my pics, then got handed off to a blonde stylist for my cut. I got my "on the house" deep conditioner (as promised by Jeffrey Stein, himself), by the stylist who told her co-worker to show her how to get it done, because she had never done it before (I'm guessing her assistant was the one who had done it several times before). After washing n treating my hair, we start the cut process. I asked her if she needed to see the picture again of the cut I was asking for, she declined, bc she said she knew the style/look I was going for. As she proceeded to blow dry, my hair started to dry out (frizzy texture started to form), but she continued to blow (as is) anyways. My hair actually got blown, as it dried out and looked horribly. My facial expression showed I wasn't pleased! I asked her where's the bobcut?, she got angry (bc I questioned her work), and said a few rude things that weren't very professional. I showed a fellow co-worker (the lawyer) my finished product, and he declined to comment (but I knew deep down inside he seen it, just didn't want to go against the policy of a bad outcome) He had me pay for the color (which I had no problem paying for the services that was provided to little-satisfactory). I should've just gone with my gut instinct, and waited my dilemma out!! It was a waste of travel, time, money, effort and a waste of products used... Sorry, but I am not pleased with this outcome! read more

I was a walked in, needed to bleach my roots, first they said they would do my hair, (and it was going to be at least $500), then they discussed between themselves and told me they couldn't do it, since they weren't confident about bleaching my hair. Very weird. I went down few blocks from them, and got it done perfectly for $240. This place has old people vibes, not modern. But it seems to be busy, old women like going there.
