    Moldy sweets. Hairy and rotting!

Bought some sweets today and when I got home I realized it's hairy and molding!! I've been calling them to let them know and they hung up on me. Disgusting.

I used to come here often for the lahmajun ( Armenian pizza) it's flat bread with ground beef or veggies. I have to say they dropped the quality but it is still ok.. They also make bread and pastries. The sweets are ok but the bread they can do better. I think too much yeast and it's very doughy which is also fattening.

Lahmajoun. Refrigerated, not a good amount of meat..

Today i left class wanting to get some lahmajoun. I was in the Noho area so i decided to yelp and see where was rated the best for lahmajoun. I can honestly say that no place tops off Arts Bakery in Glendale for their lahmajouns, ponchiks, etc. I found this place due to the ratings, and decided to stop by. First of all, its a small store. Not many options. I asked for lahmajoun and hoped it would be coming out of the back where its hot and fresh. Instead they had a few stacks refrigerated and gave them to me. I was like fine, ill just warm them up myself at home. I also asked for meat pirashki, which they didnt make, so i got potato. I saw that they also had Napelons, so i got a couple of those. Finally, to top it off, i grabbed two Puri breads and left. Heres my thoughts. Lahmajoun- Very dry, absolutely no meat, unless if it was like mixed in with the red sauce that was on top? Arts Bakery lahmajoun literally breaks apart from the juicy meat they put on top and they actually bake them on the spot instead of refrigerating them. Pirashki- Cold as well. No flavor. Havent found the right pirashki place yet. Napelons- HONESTLY, i cannot complain about them, they are so fresh and crispy, not wilted inside. However, i guess they use buttercream instead of whip cream/custard, so it has a very odd texture. Breads- Very fresh no complaints. I think today was not the right day to come in, however, the ladies were nice and the bread and napelon were great. So i might be back again.

The neatly stacked shelves are filled with things like chocolate, jam, pasta, tinned seafood, chips, and pasta are all neatly organized. Tags indicating country of origin (largely from Europe) are helpful. There are refrigerators full of charcuterie, cheese, and French butter. Freezers have ready to bake breads and pastries from a bakery in Canada. It's actually quite overwhelming (in a very good way), if you don't know what you need. You'll definitely see lots of things you want. The people that work here seem happy and are very helpful. When we were looking at chips, one of the employees shared his favorites. The best part of the visit was meeting the owner. He was enthusiastic and extremely informative! He told us that everything in the store was sampled and scrutinized for taste and quality. He knew everything about the products and why they were sourced. He helped me find a delicious arbequina olive oil from Italy and tins of sardines packed it butter. Swoon. By the end of our visit my basket was full! While the items here are pricey I truly think that the quality is worth it. Parking is plentiful and conveniently located just outside. The store is clean and well organized. Bring your own reusable shopping bags because you'll need it for all the wonderful goodies. Definitely returning! The space itself is really cute and thoughtfully designed, with a lovely aesthetic that makes you want to stay. They also have a speakeasy in the back that requires a reservation and offers a set menu. I have not gone yet, but it looks incredible and is definitely on my list. The owner is incredibly sweet, and her son is the chef. You can really feel the care and pride they put into the food, and it shows in every bite. I love the variety they offer as a deli, and everything I have tried so far has been delicious. On top of that, the value is unbeatable. Unfortunately, this is the only place where I got scammed! Asked multiple times & made sure the person at the meat section understood that I want goat feet, not lamb. Found out those were lamb feet when my whole house started to smell. Waste of not only those feet, also loads of spices. Asked if they have goat vuri (tripe), he said yes & gave me nari (small intestines). I had no idea a Bangladeshi store would even carry those. Trashed after thawing. Because it was a chunk of iceberg when he cut those & I had no idea. He knew clearly what I was looking for & yet sold me that junk for a lot of money. It is totally unacceptable & immoral to scam anyone (forget fellow Bangladeshi). Not only they lost a potential customer, but also now they have this review & I'll make sure to inform everyone I know to avoid this place. The space is really quite large. I was happy to see there was a seafood counter with a display case of smoked fish, a couple of dips, aged beef. The guys were super friendly behind the counter. I spotted the cafe area where they serve coffees and teas - I made a note that I had to come back to try that. Back to the deli counter - they recommended I try the smoked sea bass since they don't get it in often so I took some of that and a smoked salmon collar. The hand roll bar was empty since it was late in the afternoon but too early for dinner. I promised the sushi chef there that I would return. So I went back today with a couple of friends. We sat at that hand roll bar and had the best hand rolls I've ever had. We ordered a la carte and I absolutely loved those creations - full of flavor, texture - unique and tantalizing! I'm curious to go back and try some of the other things on there like the burger? the shabu shabu? I can't wait to see how they serve those items. Their little market area is fascinating as well - with small bottles of soy sauce aged in bourbon barrels and other delicious sounding ingredients. I did end up taking home a shaker bottle of their house made furikake. Can't wait to try that! I'm so happy this is in the neighborhood. Service was satisfactory. Fish was very fresh and tasty. I would come again to try the restaurant and their other fish products I missed. So this place is a choose your own adventure (handrolls, fish shop, cafe), built out in this tetris sort of layout. Upon entry you have some high chair seating and the cafe straight to the back. Along the other side is some window seating followed with the fish shop on against the last wall. Overall its pretty small so seating is limited. So much so I was indirectly informed to move from the window seating after sitting there with my bev and bread because that was for the handroll section. So I promptly went outside. Ordered: Iced Chai Latte: 5/5 - Excellent Chai. Best I've had in a minute Banana Bread: 5/5 - Recommended to me by the server. Sigh, reminded me of those good ol covid days. Very good banana bread. BBQ Fish: 4/5 So fun fact - on sundays whatever you buy from the fish shop they'll bbq it for you, pretty cool right? While the prices are a little steep, most of it is by weight so my selected fish actually was only $6. When we do the bbq option you get a little slaw to go with it. I asked the guy to give me a relatively affordable but good option and now I don't remember what it was I know. But it WAS good. It was light, a little citrusy, and surprisingly meaty? If I closed my eyes and did a blind test you could've had me fooled for red meat. If you don't like bones and all I would suggest something else. Now I have to say as soon as I ordered that one of the girls who worked there was on her off day and ordered a salmon burger, and apparently that's off the menu and isn't every week! I felt bamboozled, the fish guy did me wrong haha. With that said, if you can be here for that it seems well worth it, the grill man was mostly cooking patties and I asked one party how was it and they said it was delicious, really packed too, that burger was thick! Now there is some outdoor seating (3) but between the handrolls in the back and the bbq in the front it could be hard to find a place to sit. I got there around 12 Sunday and a few things I wanted were already sold out so I'd say make it earlier or order ahead if you can. All in all this place has been on my list for a few years now and I'm glad I finally went. I enjoyed what I experienced so far but I'm willing to go back to get the full nine yards.
