I went to Dreamland Bar-B-Que in Huntsville on June 22nd for my 11th birthday. This was the restaurant I had picked out, so my family and I were looking forward to going there. When we arrived at around 7:30 p.m., we were immediately told that the restaurant was closing in 30 minutes at 8:00. We were surprised and disappointed that we were basically turned away, especially since we still had 30 minutes to eat and could have easily finished and left before closing. It was especially frustrating because this was my birthday and this was the place I had chosen to go. We ended up leaving and going to Baumhower's instead, and honestly, we had a great experience there and had no regrets about leaving. I understand that restaurants have closing times, but turning customers away 30 minutes before closing was disappointing, especially on a special occasion. read more

Since we don't love in the area we only get here every few years. We were so excited to finally get back and have some great BBQ. Well - what a disappointment. We stopped by on Friday around noon. There were four cars in the parking lot. This should have been our first clue that things have changed. When we went to open the door we got hit by the smell of something rotten (like dead fish). Once inside we were hit with the aroma of BBQ. They had the section by the smoker closed off and it was too dark in the restaurant. We place our order only to be told 5 minutes latter that they had run out of chopped pork. It was 12:30 and there were only 10 people in the place. We changed to the rib tips which were good but not what we really wanted. Pros: * The Chips and Tips plate was good. Unfortunately some of the chips were soggy. The rib tips were good and with the free loaf bread you get you can make a sandwich. Cons: * The smell outside the building * out of pork at noon on a Friday * Men's bathroom was outdated * we were not asked if we wanted drink refills or a drink to go - only for one fill I hate to see a great landmark BBQ place like this go downhill. Dropped in for the first time today with my family of four - wasnt super slammed despite being Sunday so that was good, able to pick our own seat. They had ribs on the brick grill built into the wall cooking away, so the air smelled of meat and was a tad smokey but not in a bad way. We had our drink and food orders promptly taken and then they brought out hite bread and BBQ sauce while we waited. Not a fan of white bread but understand it's traditional for a lot of BBQ places. We ordered a bit of everything between our family: large BBQ chicken sandwhich, combo plate with pulled pork and ribs, potatoe salad, baked beans, kids Mac-n-cheese with fries and a kids pulled pork sandwich with home made chips and 4 drinks. Food came out pretty quick and portions were sized OK for the price: there was a kids eat free special so our family of 4 are BBQ for $42 -- that's a great value. BBQ Pulled Chicken sandwich was good, not super dry like a lot of places. Buns were buttery and toasted on the sandwiches. Kids liked their Mac-n-cheese and kids pulled pork sandwich. I liked the pulled pork but thought the ribs were a tad small but that may have been the combo plate. The Baked Beans were excellent, the potatoes salad was pretty good, coleslaw was OK (wife said it was freshly made but not the way she preferred), fries were good too. The home made chips weren't popular with anyone but I think most home made chips are not great -- hard to beat Lays but maybe I'm just a savage. One thing to note is they only serve one type of BBQ sauce, so that may be a negative if you like places with several different options. Wait staff was good (pretty sure the manager was serving us as she mentioned there were several call outs for today which is always good to know when doing a review). Also was told they were out of Chicken Tenders because a robotics team had cleaned them out the night prior which is the most Huntsville thing ever. Food probably a 4.2/5 but everything else was 5 of 5. I'd come back and you should check it out if you want some BBQ and are in the area. read more

The service here was great! We immediately had a seat, and were greeted. Our server checked on us several times throughout the meal. The food was extremely flavorful, and the pork was cooked perfectly. The only problem with the sandwich was there was a big chunk of just fat that made me gag, and the bathrooms smelled horrible. read more

Stopped by for family lunch before headed to drop an aunt off at the airport and it didn't disappoint (much). The service here was INCREDIBLE, especially since I saw only a bartender (who was prepping the bar) and the server, hostess, buser who was managing the entire restaurant! I didn't catch her name but damn she was good!! Tried the rib tip plate, good flavor profile (but there were more chewy gristle and bone that I would have liked), the sauces they provided were good, the sweet heat was banging!!! I ordered food here online maybe 6 months - 1 year ago during lunch hour. The atmosphere inside seemed good so I'm giving it more than 1 star. Once the food is supposed to be ready I go inside and get in line. I can see my food sitting on the counter but there are 6 people ahead of me in line. I have to wait 10 minutes for three other people to order before i get to the front of the line when the cashier hands me my food --terrible management of to-go orders. She also forgets to hand me my drink. When I get home to eat, they forgot the sauce that's supposed to go with it and my sandwich was DRY. Never eating here again. read more

The dreamland barbecue was excellent all the food we had was excellent as well. It just appeared. They did not have many service people when we were there for lunch. There was only three people total in the restaurant. But their ribs and food were excellent. I would recommend this restaurant but just note be patient of the service staff until they can get some more people According to the waiter when we ask she said they had just had a manager who left. We were a bit apprehensive, but decided to try Dreamland BBQ. We had looked at the reviews and they seemed mixed. All I can say is the food was fantastic and the service could not have been better. I love good ribs and smoked sausage so I got the two meat combo plate. I opted for the homemade chips and their special slaw for sides. My wife went with the boneless rib tip platter with the special slaw and seasoned fries. The fries tasted like they had been smoked. They were tremendous. I kept stealing more. The chips were also well seasoned. A nice garlic and spice mix. The slaw was not swimming in something like most places, but was nice and wet with green onions and a very pleasant flavor different from most. I went to a lunchtime talk that catered lunch from Deamlamd BBQ. One of the best meals I had on this trip. There was a choice of cut up meat or chicken and buns to make a sandwich. Both were very flavorful and the bbq sauce added even more. There were also pork ribs, bake beans, coke slaw, and two desserts (banana pudding and chocolate). Loved the beans which were not meaty. The Cole slaw was a little boring but texture perfectly crunchy. I liked the banana pudding best but my friend liked the chocolate one best. read more

They had the cure for all of that! Dreamland has a great atmosphere and it SMELLS SO GOOD! I was promptly seated and heard the magic words "sweet tea" before I could look at the menu. First let me say the staff is super friendly here & was so kind to my daughter. The give you bread & sauce before your meal but the bread was a little stale. One of the cooks said to a server while there were guests in the dining room that the shouldn't be open & they should close the restaurant that does not give a lot of confidence to your restaurant. Arrived at 6p on a Saturday eve. Restaurant was almost empty. 3 tables were being used and there were about 8 they had not been bussed. Restaurant was dirty - seats had holes and windows were filthy. When ordered drinks, we did not get straws. When asked, our server pulled from a dirty table next to us! Yes, they were wrapped - but really? When we went to order - they were out of pork and ribs! Wait...BBQ at 6p on a Saturday. I got over it and had sausage, which was actually pretty good. Side - beans (swear they were Bush's in a can) and Mac and cheese that was dried up and tasted like cardboard. To top it off, I saw more of the server than I cared. Don't bother with anything other than the ribs. The nostalgia of watching the brick ovens is the only appeal. Unless you like the entertainment when the filthy stoves catch on fire because they aren't properly cleaned. We visited with my daughters softball team so had a very large group. One waitress took care of us the entire time and did an outstanding job. Every persons order was correct and came out in a timely manner considering our group size. The food was okay. Not great just okay. The sausage was generic run off the mill. Nothing special. Typical sides and okay as well. I'm from Texas so I believe it's just a different type of barbecue than what I'm accustomed to eating. I have been to Dreamland BBQ twice and both times it was a very good experience. The house BBQ is a little spicy but good. I got the Combo Meal with Pulled Pork and Sausage which was very good. First and foremost, let me begin by stating that our server "Courtney" was amazing. Pretty much the only reason they got the 2 stars Stopped in with my wife while we were attending a convention close by. I am a HUGE BBQ rib lover and was very anxious to try ribs from a non-chain company. I ordered the full rack of ribs (which come a la carte) I also ordered fries and baked beans. I asked our server ahead of time if I could try the Cole slaw and the potato salad. She was gracious enough to give me a little to sample. The Cole slaw was very dry and bland. Needed a lot more seasoning and some kind of dressing. The potato salad, well, it was some of the worst I've had in a restaurant. So, I settled for baked beans and fries. My wife ordered the sausage with okra and baked beans The food came out in about 6 minutes which was good as we were hungry. The ribs were plentiful. It was about 10 or so bones. Very meaty and drenched in BBQ sauce. I was so ready to dive in. When I did, the meat was very, very tough. Now don't get me wrong. I don't mind a bit of a pull on my ribs. I have never been a fan of the "fall off the bone" concept, but these were VERY touch. The sweet sauce that was on them was good. I liked that a lot. The fries were scorching hot, so it took a minute to eat those. The baked beans were good. Nothing to write home about but good. I couldn't get past the toughness of the ribs. I did mention it to the server as she asked how everything was. She did offer to take them back and replace them but I kind of figured why bother? I don't like to waste food so if the next batch was just as tough, them what's the point? I ate 2 or 3 ribs (at least what meat I could get off of the bones) and took the rest back to our hotel.
