The staff at this establishment insulted, ganged up on, and verbally attacked my significant other because he "couldn't understand" the "black and white" of being charged an extra 6$ for getting a full waffle rather than a half waffle. Fiancé and I visited for breakfast while on vacation. The dining area had a "wait to be seated" sign up and we waited patiently at the podium for someone to seat us. About ten minutes passed before someone came over and acknowledged us. It wasn't a huge deal, we weren't in any hurry, and they seated us right away once they realized no one had put us down for a table yet. Server was quick and friendly. The food portion was a good size, they had hot sauce available by request, and everything was delicious. Price for two big breakfast meals and one drink was just under $25. Had a great meal here tonight. I had the meatloaf dinner and my wife had the beef stew and salad. Our order was taken quickly and served hot and quickly as well. Clearly the best food we have had in the Escanaba area all week. There was a table of eight next to us and they were all raving about the food they were just served. Awesome restaurant and one of my favorites in Escanaba, MI. The outside and inside of the restaurant looks very well taken care of and very clean. The servers are very friendly with a clean appearance with how they dress. Waiting for a table was no wait at all and we were seated immediately on walking in. Our server was great for getting out our sodas and appetizer out. Only problem I had was instead of telling me they didn't have marinara sauce she said they did have it but gave me some weird meat sauce. The portion of our main course was a lot I couldn't finish it but am not complaining! The left overs tasted just as good as dining in. The price is good for the quality and taste of the food. Amazing food and great service. We did notice that our waitress was doing everything from seating us to getting drinks, food order, and cashing other customers out as well. Do not order the lobster bisque, it was the absolute worst that I have ever had. Neither my mom nor my wife would finish it after trying it. I gave this place a second chance since everyone can have a bad day. On this case, maybe they're having a bad decade. Too bad I can't give a no start rating. I brought a party of 9 for breakfast. Meals were delivered in stages and incomplete with some of the party not receiving major parts of the meal until most others were done eating. My meal never arrived at all, when everyone else was done they brought me the wrong thing. This is breakfast, not brain surgery. Eggs and pancakes weren't that difficult to prepare. The kicker was when I informed the 'manager' and was told, ' you complained before, maybe you should eat somewhere else...' No comment on their failings bringing about the complaints. I don't hold much hope for another second chance... Some places are just too poorly run to be worth the bother. Perhaps the next owner will figure it out. read more

We stopped in here on our way back home from Mackinac Island. It was a very attractive place. Yes, the portions are huge, but the food was mediocre. I had french onion soup, which I love when cooked properly. The bread had a weird consistency and the onions were crunchy, they weren't properly cooked. I had a salad with chicken breast in it, and my sister also had a dish with chicken breast. Our chicken was very thin, dry and hard, so it was obviously overcooked. I hadn't been to this place is upwards of 8 years when I went back. It was incredible diner food. The pancakes were fluffy, the omelet surprisingly delicious, and the coffee slightly burnt. This was our location of choice for a late dinner on a Friday evening. It seems that most places close up shop early around Escanaba, but Drifters is open until 10pm. We arrived around maybe 8pm for dinner after we all arrived in town. From the first impression walking in, it is your typical small town diner joint. Booths line the outside wall, with a half wall partition around the middle of the place with more booths. Your typical drop ceiling and fluorescent lighting. We were lucky and got a table along the outside wall next to a huge window that looked out onto Lincoln Rd. It took our waitress a minute to get over to us, but I think that was in part to the fact that we arrived as two groups instead of all together. But when she arrived she took our drink order and got those out to us relatively quickly. Since I was enjoying dinner with my parents...and I hadn't seen them since January placing our food order took awhile as we kept talking and catching up on what was going on, how the drive up was, etc. But we finally made our decisions and gave her our order. From what I could see as I looked around the place looked clean and well taken care of. Better than the last small town restaurant that I tried earlier in the day. As we waited and chatted it felt like it wasn't long at all before our food came out. Now I am always a HUGE fan on a place that serves breakfast at any time...so I got set up with Belgium waffle, bacon, and eggs! It was very delicious and really hit the spot. My mom went with the stuffed French toast and it looked absolutely to die for. AND best part...she didn't finish hers so I got to have some as well. Besides the food being really, really good I also enjoyed the fact that our drinks never went empty! I never did check to see if they offered a dessert menu but after all that we had for "dinner" there was no room left. Terrible service , waitress took 15 minutes to get to our table. 6 tables had customers so not busy.took another 10 minutes to get our drinks. Fish was way over cooked ,perch filets were like potato chips,waitress didn't even ask us if we wanted desert. Asked if we needed boxes to go when plates were empty. No drink refills didn't even ask. My son had vape pen in his hand and was not using it. Was told to pay bill and leave if he didn't put it away. Now I know why its empty during rush dinner time. Never again read more

Quaint little place with an amazing feature- VETERAN Parking!!!! Loved it! I was, however, disappointed with some of our order- Waitress was great, friendly and attentive. Our cheddar potato soup was kind of bland but the chunks of bacon were tasty. I went there for breakfast. The food is no-nonsense and perfect. Huge selection. The sausage links are so good I could have made a whole meal of them. My friend had an omelet which was huge! I had a Belgian waffle which was nothing fancy but I ate the entire thing! They have anything you could want for breakfast and very fast service. read more

I want to give Drifter's a 3+ star rating. The price of the items we ordered from the "Less from Wes" portion of the menu was $4.25 each and it was plenty of food! It would be difficult to beat the price. My pancakes were as large as the plate. My wife had an omelette that comes with a half portion of hash browns and two pieces of toast. Her meal was plenty big for all but the hardiest of appetites. I was a little disappointed with the fact that my pancakes were on the tough side. When visiting Escanaba this year, Drifter's easily caught our eye with the big yellow sign right on the highway. Service was great and the hostess recognized us after the third day. The food was delivered in a short time, it was hot and tasty. It's good home cooking. The prices are very good. Most of all, they go our of their way to recognize veterans. There's a reserved parking stall near the entrance and they allowed a 10% military discount. This will be our go to for breakfast each time we return. read more

Yup, too much food, so much I skipped dinner! However, service was slow, although our server was very pleasant and professional. She just had too many tables, I guess. Food also took a long time, especially because my husband only had coffee. Fortunately they left a hot pot of coffee so we were happy to wait and have coffee. Good prices, great portions.
