This is the spot to stay on the beach if you want to stay at a historical hotel. I loved the bar and the menu. The hotel had low and high prices depending on what section you stayed at. I prefer looking over the ocean put of course this is triple the amount Im willing to pay. The prices range from the low 170 to way up there. i'm hard pressed to really call this place a resort. it more like a historically iconic hotel, on the beach, that has kept most of it's laid back, dive-y charm, then added 2 more modern buildings on the back side that don't reflect the beachy lifestyle look. we were in one of the original buildings, our room faced a parking lot which is shared with waldo's restaurant. parking can be difficult to find a spot near your room and they encourage you to park in the back lot and walk around to your rooms, which sucks when you're trying to unload or load your car when coming or going. many of the employees park in this tiny lot and tie up space for most of the day, seen a lot of restaurant patrons leave their cars in the lot overnight, without a dash pass identifying you as a hotel guest. our room was tiny & weirdly laid out....teeny tiny kitchen without a dishwasher, so i had to put all the dishes, glasses & silverware in the sink, boil water and rewash everything because i don't know who washed the dishes before us & what their hygiene habits are. only 1 tv in the living room, which you can't see from the "bedroom" which is actually a small room with sliding panel doors, THAT DON'T WORK, for privacy if needed. the linens, bed & pillows were all clean, soft and comfortable. the amount of broken closet doors, tiles, lamps is crazy. i get the whole dive charm that they want to display, but for pete's sake, at least get a handy man in there to fix all the broken crap. if you are a stickler for perfection & posh details, THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR YOU. if you can dig that lazy, laid back, dumpy divey charm, then come here. we never used the pool. the 1 pool was attached to the restaurant and all you can smell is cigarettes and listen to loud drunks & music, the other pool called "the quiet pool" was over by the newer buildings, never saw it. we don't come to the beach to swim in a pool. front desk people are so laid back & cool. this is the first time a hotel didn't ask for a credit card to be put on file for incidentals, they just said "we trust you". AND i was really surprised & chuckled at the fact that our room keys were actual metal keys & not key cards. they do push the "rustic charm" to the limit, but as long as i have a comfortable bed, a place to shower, sh*t & shave, i'm good, not on vacay to hang out in a hotel room all day, i'm there to experience the area. ***the only complaint i have is that this place considers itself a NON SMOKING RESORT, but puts ashtrays on all the tables outside of the rooms, so you're always walking through the stink of cigarettes someplace on the property read more

It a very unique place to stay with outdoor dining and gorgeous views. The rooms are funky but clean enough to be comfortable. It's right in the heart of downtown , so easy to walk everywhere. In my opinion I would ditch the Friday night guitar guy. His music was mediocre and depressing. It's nice just to enjoy the ocean sounds and chill without his droning on. Sorry we just didn't care for that, the only other unpleasant thing was the lady at the check in desk. She was not the most pleasant person to deal with and she seemed proud of this aspect of herself. I think maybe she has been a long time employee who missed (the be nice to your guests training class). Oh well, all in all I will stay there again because of its uniqueness and beautiful views. I give the Driftwood five stars for being excellent at what it is. It's an old historic inn that is very rustic and historical. I'd prefer the creaky staircase to polished marble any day. The room was old and had a comfy, lived in feel. It didn't have the sterile feel that chain hotels have. That's not to say it wasn't spotlessly cleaned because the important parts were. The staff was excellent. Parking was spotty because we were there on July 4th. We will definitely return. read more

Be prepared for a VERY rustic experience here. Bring your own towels, as they only provided ONE each bath towel, hand towel and face cloth. When they say partial kitchen, it is so not a kitchen. When I checked in I asked a few questions of the desk clerk, every answer I got was 'I don't know. ' my question is....why is she working here? This place is so dirty. The only way they could get good reviews are from the people from the timeshare because they want to rent them out. Very little parking, if your guest you have to park on the street. They do not supply the basics, like toilet paper, clean towels. The restaurant and rooms so many bugs. Very dangerous for children in the pool no supervision and it does not matter to management. The restaurant floors are so sticky, the price they charge for a meal and then served on a paper plate. If you stay there make sure you get everything you asked for in writing, because I asked ahead of time and they even said i got a discount. Really I've traveled all over the country and the world this was the worst. In fact its the first review I wrote. A/C doesn't work. TV's old and don't work. Terrible management. read more

My family was well taken care at the driftwood! While the facilities are outdated the location and atmosphere made up for it!

Go ahead and book a night here if you can find a good deal. For roughly $200 a night, you get a very nice suite right on the ocean. One king bed, a full kitchen, a pull out couch and phenomenal balcony. You get an awesome bathroom with a separate room for the toilet with a pull chain, old-timey tub with feet (in addition to a regular shower), and stained glass natural lighting. Sure the television didn't work and half the clientele are creepy rednecks, but you still have a whole beach and two (2) pools you can use to escape them. They keep the whole lot nice and dark at night. Gloria Estefan's place looks like a distracting pink lighthouse from the beach. You can relax your eyes are keep an eye out on the dark sea. The drunk crowd settles down well before 10am (on a weekday at least) so you can enjoy your large, private balcony in complete darkness and silence all night long. read more

They have private parking but it can definitely fill up during season. Located on Ocean Drive which is within walking distance to shops and other venues. Bike rentals are near as well. Stay away from this place! Undoubtedly the worst place I ever stayed at. First Impression: Wonderful location but horrible condition. My co-workers and I stayed there for 2 nights, 3 rooms. The parking, the beds, the couches, the kitchens were a joke. The carpet was filthy. Uncomfortable but it seemed bearable for such good location and view... Nightmare Began: Starting from the morning after our first night all the way till now (36 HOURS after we checked out and WASHED EVERYTHING I BROUGHT), we have been all so itchy from the fleas and bugs we got from there. Couldn't sleep well at all over there because of the itchiness. Itched the whole way home (on the flights, in the car...) My first negative review on Yelp. The Driftwood is a Vero institution. It was built by Waldo Sexton out of pieces he salvaged from some of the incredible old homes in Palm Beach and Boca when they were being torn down the 40's. Consequently it has tons of cool old things that are quite random. Unfortunately, the recent hurricanes did destroy much of it. The hotel is run in a very erratic and irresponsible way though. Your room will never be ready when you need it, the maid service might just not come, they may move you in the middle of your stay or any other incredibly add practice that shows that this place is very much in need of new management. read more

Worst room I have ever had in my life of timeshares!!! There was visible mold on the air conditioner unit, holes in the very old blankets and the room was not cleaned well at all. We stayed here last weekend. I lived in Vero Beach in the late 90's and came here all the time to hang out at Waldo's. I couldn't wait to come back and see it again and stay in the night in the resort. It was great. It had not changed much at all. Which is a good thing. We had a King room on the 1st floor. It had a pretty big fridge and a microwave. The Room was clean and spacious enough. The light grey bed spread (more like a blanket) had a stain right on the front in the middle. It kinda grossed me out at first. My husband removed the bed spread so we didn't have to look at it. The sheets were crisp and clean. They should throw away STAINED bed coverings. When checking in the lobby area is cramped. Way too much un-usable furniture in there. I get why they keep it , they are obviously antiques. But you really could not sit on the small narrow couch. It was just me and my hubby checking in. Then came another small group and I was kinda asked to move out of the way so they could get up to the counter. Ummmm,,,,I'm checking in...why do I have to scoot? I know my husband is handling the transaction but I may have some questions too? Anyway the front of house staff could use be a little friendly. The women checking us in was just going thru the motions like reading a scripts. I had to wait outside bc it got too crowded in the small tiny lobby. Waldo's was great. The Food was delicious. The view was amazing. The band playing was awesome. The pools were beautiful. We will come back again. read more

I've never stayed overnight here, but being that I live in town and I have a friend that works here, makes it a nice night out. The food....well, I've only had an appetizer or two...they were really. They have live music (bands)...and outside, by the ocean seating, which is always good for relaxing with a refreshing beverage and (in my case) a great guy! ;) Really enjoy this place a lot! read more

We've been going to this resort for the past 4 years, and typically it's always been a pleasant experience. This visit we encountered some employees who were quite rude, especially the guy who patrols the pool. I understand he probably has to deal with some rowdy people who may have drank too much, but he is very rude in his approach of getting people out of the pool when it starts to look like rain clouds are rolling in. We were just sitting in the pool when he very rudely told us we needed to get out. My husband politely asked him if he could just be a little nicer, and his response was "I've been doing this for 13 years and I'm not going to change for you". What a nice guy. Our next lovely encounter was with one of the bartenders there who snapped at us for asking for just a cup of ice water, and made it well known that he thought we were wasting his time since the bar was busy. The lady who was working the front desk and checked us in also seemed miserable and wasn't very friendly at all. Our room was nice, and we enjoyed ourselves overall, but I don't know what was up with all the rude employees this time around. It really left a bad taste in our mouths. read more

The driftwood is a great place to stay. Every room is unique and is filled with history. The prices are very reasonable and all rooms, even the smaller ones have a suite feel to them because of the mini kitchen. It is a great spot to take a family. There is park next to hotel and some great shops accross the street. My kids love to go to Cravings and Kilwins for cookies and Ice Cream. They also love to go to Frostings one block over. The driftwood has two pools and waldos is a great spot to get lunch on the deck and look at the ocean. Right now one of the buildings is under renovation and should be done I think by Febuary I heard. The staff is all wonderful. Enjoy! read more

We love it here. So many eclectic things to see and every day we feel like we are discovering something new. The beach is beautiful though may need some combing for seaweed as nearby beaches are clearer. The AC works pretty well but leaks. We do have little bugs near the kitchen but I am guessing those are common for this area. I would definitely come back! read more

Counting ourselves lucky to be here despite the weather and Covid! Yes, this place is old but also quirky, funky, unique and antique. Oh, and not to mention it is right on the beach! There's an open well maintained park next door and we can hear and see the ocean waves as they hit the beach. Our unit is 4th floor and despite wind howling through the walkway, our "front porch" area is well protected. Check in was efficient, there's even a couple of events scheduled like a scavenger hunt, trivia paper, free ice cream Wednesdays. The unit has a sleeping alcove separated by sliders, small living area and a small kitchenette. What time isn't spent at the beach is in the two heavy wooden chairs with an ocean view. They have all the web sites rigged to get you to pay more let them sit this month. go to the bar beautiful but screw them get your hotel around them plenty of them, bring there prices down or keep coughing it up. read more

We had to spend additional money to find a place to stay right next door. The rooms are nice and a good price but buyer beware. The parking here is horrendous! My hubby and I love Vero Beach especially when trying to escape Memorial Day madness in South Beach. We always stay at an adjacent hotel but decided to stay here this trip. Front staff is nice but not when dealing with an issue. We got the standard "agree with the client" in an attempt to diffuse. We literally circled all of the lots including street parking and nothing. When we complained the excuses were: 1) we are a time share 2) it's Memorial Day weekend it's busy 3) use street parking 4) there is nothing I can do. Unacceptable especially when I am paying over $300 a night and don't have a reserved parking spot. First and last time for sure read more

The place was quiet, but had horrible parking and there was no breakfast. There was a bug on the bed. The first room we got, none of the lights worked, so we had to move. The shower drain did not drain and j was standing in a puddle of water and sand. At those price, I understand you are right on the beach, but I could have stayed directly across the street and gotten breakfast and have been just as close to beach life.
