i am a novice. i had my hdd checked by a local vendor who told me it was beyond his ability so referred me to drivesaver. with lots of worries, i contacted them and was very very pleased with the way they explained what they will do and when. they sent me the fedx label, i sent the drive to them and, as promised, they responded within the quoted timeline. then they contacted me with bad bad news, my drive was beyond salvage and data was not recoverable. but they explained why and how much it would cost for them to "try" to recover. it wasn't worth it. my walk away is that they did what they said they would do and gave me a frank evaluation of my drive. hey, what else can you ask for? honesty and living up to promises. i hope i will never contact them again but if my new drive dies, i will be sending it to them. good people. patronize them. read more

I would think that the business manager trying to say my review isn't credible might ask for a case number or contact information. There are well over 200k people with my first name. I sometimes use my maiden name. I wasn't told there was 100 percent chance the data on the device could be recovered. While I have lost some data on devices, I do have case records from Apple and the MDM service providers. That particular profile was a hidden one that was rather hard to detect. I find this incredibly alarming. They say, there is no such thing as free, who knows what "free shipping and evaluations" may be costing you or if information is being sold to data brokers or elsewhere. I had lots of data leaked and compromised, but I'm not able to verify the sources. I can confirm, I was informed they could not recover data on a device and that there were hidden profiles signed by the company on my devices. I suggest being cautious if you have any personal or professional sensitive information whatsoever. read more

I had an iPhone that completely crashed. All my data, gone. Went to three different repair shops, no one could fix it. One of them said , " You're probably not going to get your data back. The last place I went, the young man behind the counter, after trying his best, reached up and handed me a flyer for Drive Savers. I said, " You think they can get my data back?" Without missing a beat he said yes. So I called the number, gave the information that I had, and the gentleman on the other end of the phone was kind, compassionate and gracious. Knowing that I had lost some very important pictures. Pictures of my wife, my kids, , my father and his last days of holding his first and what would be his only grandson That he would ever know. I sent my phone off, and they returned it with instructions on how to put the data from the old phone back onto my new phone. The problem is, I am not a tech guy. I'm a builder. Same process, different medium. I called and talked to a man named Anthony. He was absolutely fantastic. Better man I've never met. He was kind, compassionate, willing, and knowledgeable. It took 3, 1hour phone calls to do what we needed to do, including merging the data that was already on the new phone that I had accumulated since I bought it with the old phone . Needless to say, I was well pleased. The data loaded overnight and when I woke up in the morning, I had all of my memories and information back. I spent a lot of money in this process. And it was worth every cent. Lesson learned, I purchased iCloud storage every month, purchased another 2 TB hard drive and backed everything up onto that so that I would have 2 backups and the cloud. I had job 801065 for authenticity. My hdd drive failed & I forgot the password & recovery code. I looked up a bunch of places & ignored the reviews calling this place a scam. It seems to be at least price gouging maybe not a full on scam. Their quoted turn around is 10-15 days & ended up quoting be $3700-3900 for the work. I questioned this evaluation when they told me it just had firmware issues because those don't cost that. I pressed further & they told me it actually had physical failure which merits the price increase so I accepted it reluctantly even when they stated a $600 cancelation fee. 13 business days later they contact me stating that they need the trusted computer to help recover the files & it took so long because they were going around encryption. The thing is, I offered to send my trusted computer along with the drive intially & after the evaluation & they thought they didn't need it. So I'm really not sure what my evaluation was based on & that lack of explanation made a stressful situation even worse. I wanted to know & for them to elaborate whats wrong with my drive in more detail after this, as this was a huge red flag. It also made me question if they were honest in adding physical damage after I didn't think firmware fixes cost almost 4 grand. They wouldnt tell me anything & claimed that's proprietary information. When you go to the mecahnic, they tell you whats wrong with the car & how much that costs. This is a different industry but telling me whats wrong so I can know how much I'm paying & for what should not be a secret. I wasn't asking what specifically down to the firmware name or error or the exact issue with drive heads etc, I was simply asking what the umbrella term for issue is. I was willing to pay more for something from a company with experience in the field, but not be price squeezed without information when they hold data you don't want lost so they don't end up preying on consumer desperation. This business neglected any form of transparency & that was even more concerning as they wouldn't adjust the price even when they didnt meet their own deadline to fix the drive caused by them not accepting the trusted computer in the first place. I offered I'd be willing to even work things out for some path forward, but they would just ignore any accountability or transparency by just not answering anything after claiming proprietary issues. They are now sending the drive back, but to their credit aren't charging me a $600 cancelation fee. Not sure though if thats because they have the no data no charge guarentee because a manager stated that fee if I proceed after the evaluation. Might be because they never started work since they didnt have a expedited option avaliable & usually do so maybe they were really behind. That I don't know. I'm writing this review as a potential customer. I while ago I suffered a catastrophic data loss, it really out me in a bad situation. I searched a few online options and came across Drivesavers. I was surprised that they were in my neck of the woods so I gave them a call. Their staff was professional and courteous. Unfortunately I was in a tight spot financially at the time and after several back and forths I just couldn't take them up on their service. One of the cool things about dropping off my drive and picking it up is that their lobby is a museum of pop culture (i didn't expect that). Actors and studios take their broken computers to Drivesavers for what I would assume a happy ending. DriveSavers recovered all my data and I am very satisfied. However, there are some things to consider before going with them. The communication was something to be desired. While I chose the Standard 1-2 Day option, they called saying they needed two weeks. When I called later in the week for more clarity on the situation, they were very dodgy about the specifics and wouldn't answer my questions. This left me feeling very anxious but the next business day they called saying they recovered all my data. I don't know what happened to the two weeks. I am actually still in the dark about what happened to the drive--they vaguely described symptoms that my drive wasn't going through, such as a beeping sound. Overall it seemed very strange. I received the drive they sent over, however some data was missing. I called asking and eventually they were able to confirm they had the data and they sent it over on another drive, without an additional charge. While they didn't admit it, I believe they just forgot to drag and drop the data onto the new drive initially. Small mistake, and I'm glad they resolved the issue in a timely and effective manner. Their prices are no joke, however. Unless your device is extremely damaged, perhaps look into another service if money is an issue. I discovered there is a network of data recovery centers that might've been able to get the job done. Don't go to your local tech shop, though. However if it is crucial and price isn't an issue, I recommend Drivesavers. Especially if you can have a company cover the cost or deduct it from your taxes. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 primarily because of the communication problems I faced and not the price. read more

I had a disc of film footage that needed recovering. (I plugged in the external drive to make a backup copy and it started beeping. I Googled what that meant and it said to stop immediately and call a pro.) I found DriveSavers online, called a few tech friends (I'm not a tech person) and they recommended them. It wasn't cheap and I don't have budget for this kind of work at this stage of my film project. I was stressed about the money of it, but had to do it because I couldn't repeat the film shoot for many reasons. DriveSavers was great with communication through the whole thing. That helped me calm down a little. Then when I brought home my recovered disc, it wouldn't transfer to another external drive to make a second back up. I called tech support (freaking out inside because I don't consider myself a tech person and this was way outside of my capacity). They connected me quickly with Anthony. He got on and over the course of two appointments and many hours, figured out a work around and got me back up and running. He seriously saved my project. Here was my painful saga...I accidently deleted my iCloud on my iPhone...which then led to my Documents folder and all of its contents GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!...deleted from my macbook pro FOREVER!
