I have reason to believe that not only have I been misinformed but I have also been lied to. I was told that my device was opened - then told it wasn't very quickly when I expressed concern. When I called about it I was assured that it had not been opened and that even if it was that it would still be covered over warranty. Now I sent my device into Western Digital and they have informed me that the warranty has been void due to the casing being opened. As you can imagine I am very frustrated by this all. The main problem is that I clearly expressed I wasn't in a rush from the beginning, and this 3-week option wasn't offered until after I declined the other options, which were presented as non-negotiable and the only options. When I asked why the price was so high, it was all technical jargon of how my machine was in bad shape. Nothing was mentioned of the timeline, even after I expressed how I was not in a rush for this. The timing of it all is what makes the situation suspect and seems to prey on people. It would be great to have all of the options and all of the information from the beginning. Rolling out new cheaper options in the middle of the process, after I decline the "only" options presented, is questionable. I understand why you would do it as a business strategy to make more money, but as a customer that is needing to trust you as the expert, it only raises red flags. I think the situation is more comparable to a mechanic who could easily upcharge people simply based on their lack of knowledge of with vehicles. read more

PLEASE READ!! I had 2 years of data not backed up to the cloud that I wasn't aware of when my phone got water damage. These past two years I have had two babies and had many photos and memories. I was quoted $3500 to get my data back and I declined because I heard about "flashback data recovery" out of Austin that will do the work for a fraction of the price. Once I declined, they came back and said they could do it for $1800 and I still told them no and to send my phone back. They sent my phone back and once I sent my phone to the other company, they told me my entire phone had been wiped. They screwed me and there's no way I could prove otherwise. I highly recommend Drive Savers to anyone who has been told "no" by every other company, including Apple! To give just 5 stars is an understatement! I recently lost my best friend from childhood into adulthood and it was extremely sudden. I had all of my memories on my mac book since kindergarten. I never used ICloud as I thought of my laptop and hard drive as my photo album. I take good care of my devices. I did not know that Apple switched the way they made their hardware in 2018. When I found out about my friends passing the very next day mu computer stopped working. I went to grab some pictures for the family and tried plugging it in to charge and then wouldn't turn on. I had used it the previous day and it worked perfectly fine. There was no damage done from then to the next day. I took it to Apple and they said my mother board was fried (??) and that there was no way to get the data back. I began to cry and asked what my solutions were and they referred me to drive savers. They did mention it would be a larger price and that they are recommended. I tried the Micro Center, Best Buy, and even tried contacting people whom I work with if they had any friends who could help. I finally decided to call Drive Savers and I am so beyond happy I did. They went over ALL the options and pricing with me and made me feel extremely confident in them and after a week full of bad news, it was truly nice. They sent me a free shipping label for overnight shipping and had it done in a week. They even extracted all of my data at no extra cost - even though I asked just for the photos and videos so I could have them for my friends family, our friends, and myself. I had an old iPhone that had been dropped without a case on it. Some of the photos were backed up into iCloud, but hundreds of them were not. The phone still powered on, and I tried to transfer the photos to my laptop, but was unable to transfer the photos. One day, the phone would not turn on. I took it to two cell phone repair shops who said there was nothing they could do. I then sent the phone to DriveSavers, and they assured me that there was a good chance they could retrieve the data. They said they had an 80% success rate and had phones that had been run over by cars and in house fires where they could retrieve the data. They did the free evaluation and said they were "highly optimistic" that they could retrieve the data and quoted me on the price. The price was high, but I would've paid the full amount to get my pictures back. Two weeks later they called me and said they were unable to retrieve the data. Very shady & misleading!! On the phone the sales guy told me my issue repaired would be between $700 to $2,100. I asked him if they fixed that kind of issue before and he said oh, many times... so HOW much is it based on your experience - I asked...?! Oh, could be about $1,200 but no promises OK? When a company that specializes in a very specific service such a data recovery and knows VERY well how much they charge still choose to give you "hope" in the form of an extremely low ball to a high cost estimate you know it's BS. This is why there's salesman did go up to the $1,200. I sent the computer, they got it. It took them two days longer to call me then promised and that's OK. The guy who called me it was extremely rude. It was clear he didn't have much time talking to me. He immediately told me the price will be the max of $2,100 to restore the computer. And you didn't know it over the phone?! When I expressed to him that it is a very high price and perhaps they could consider a discount he gave me $50 off. Nothing to make you feel better like good ol' 2% discount ;) I've never talk to someone who had no empathy, especially in the nature of the service that you're in. Emergency data recovery. They know the prices from the very beginning. Their purpose is ONE: To get you to send your computer in. Once it's there, you will PAY any price. That's the hook! I was going to back up my laptop but decided to wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow became next week, which turned to next month. I fired up my laptop, business as usual, and began working, and suddenly, the screen went black. I thought the battery had died, so I plugged it up and hit the power button, and nothing happened. It was about 30 seconds when all panic set in. I called Apple and explained what happened--Hoping that they would give me a series of key commands and boom, I'd be back in business. Well, no such luck. Apple referred me to Drive Savers and said this would be the place if anyone could retrieve your data. I immediately called them, and their staff was accommodating. They explained the process, and I FedExed my hard drive to them ASAP. The next day, I received a call from a customer service agent to say that they received my hard drive and would begin to run a series of tests. If the test proved nothing could be done, there would be no charge, and they would follow up with me the next day. As promised, I received a call saying there was a strong chance they could retrieve my data. I was thrilled to hear that. The following day, I received another call saying they could save my data. Three days later, I have my data and all my files! I can't say enough great things about Drive Savers staff and service. The Apple store gave me the contact info of this company so I contacted them at their suggestion. DriveSavers quoted me, over the phone, $2,500-3,900 to recover the data from my MacBook that had died. I took it to a tiny, local computer shop. They recovered the data, transferred it to a new computer, and had it back to me in 2 days for $300. I don't know what could possible make DriveSavers' service so "high quality" that it justifies those grossly inflated prices. Look, I get it if we're talking about 200 computers worth of data from a company with major security in place or something. But charging almost $4,000 for my plain old MacBook is highway robbery. read more

Warning: do NOT let your iPhone fill to max storage capacity or it may not have enough memory to boot up, and lock you out completely. I saved my data to an external hard drive purchased on Amazon (would caution people doing this). The drive was meant for one or two time use, not extended, daily use. I didn't know this and used the drive daily. It crashed and I sent my drive to DriveSavers to recover. Ultimately, they were able to recover my items. The time it took was double the original quote and the cost exceeded the amount I was quoted as well. When I addressed this, the company adjusted based on the amount we agreed upon. So grateful to have my documents and photos back, I just wish it was more affordable. Over $3k to retrieve my files. I don't have a background in IT and don't know what they have to do to recover files. The cost may be warranted but man, that's a lot. read more
