Stayed in an oceanfront suite for the weekend. The room itself was renovated, clean, and bright. Bedding was excellent and the shower had amazing pressure. There is a full sized kitchen which is unheard of! The unit had more than what we needed for our stay. The suite opened to a little patio and direct access to the water. The waterside area was exceptionally clean, with lots of comfortable seating, hammocks, and BBQs. The pool area was also very clean and the pool itself was heated. Hotel is centrally located with lots of great restaurants a quick drive away. Check in and out were also quick and painless. Cannot wait to visit again! read more

Mold, active leaks, and zero accountability ruined our 25th anniversary I am deeply disappointed with our recent stay at Drop Anchor Resort in Islamorada, which was supposed to be a special trip to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The moment we checked into the #3 room, we were hit with an overwhelming smell of mold. Upon looking around, I noticed water pooling on the floor and began recording video evidence, which clearly captured water actively dripping from the kitchen cabinets and seeping up through the floorboards. The conditions were so unmanageable and unhygienic that we were forced to leave the property that night and return home. I drove back to the resort the following morning to speak directly with management. My husband, who is an engineer, brought his professional tools and moisture reading equipment to test the room. The moisture readings were completely out of range, confirming severe underlying water intrusion and mold growth. Despite the documented health risks, verified moisture readings, and ruined milestone trip, both the property and Expedia denied my request for a refund. To make matters worse, management has made zero attempt to reach out to us since to offer an explanation, an apology, or any resolution. Charging guests for an uninhabitable room with active water damage and then completely ignoring the issue is unacceptable. Save yourself the stress and avoid this property. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The biggest opportunity preventing the hotel from a 5 stars was that the boat ramp was not being maintained. It had tons of sea grass, sargassum and muck. In addition, there were tons of mosquitoes that made the outdoor experience an opportunity. Boater beware as the ramp is steep, slippery and crooked. Most rooms in this hotel must be OK. The problem is if you book with Expedia and you are the last person in the last room they offer is absolutely repulsive. We checked in late at 8:00 PM. There were bugs inside the light. The bathroom vanity was falling apart. The door did not lock properly. There was no smoke detector. We politely asked for a refund the next morning and we were told no. It was clear that the person at the desk knew that the room was entirely too small and denied the problems with the room. He said all of those things are fixable and we can do it now. My question is why wasn't it done before we arrived? I would use extreme caution in booking this hotel. Our 1 night stay was a waste of our time. We stayed in the 80 degree trailer. It appears that they don't keep the trailer up. No bathroom lights, low head room made for plenty of head bumps as the furniture is placed under the low areas. The knives had broken handles, the toilet overflowing the shower was layered with some kind of cracking glue. Loose deck boards. For as much as they charge one would think these details could be easily addressed. It cost us $500+ for one night and no response when inquiries were made about any kind of refund. We ended up at the Hampton paying the same with much better amenities like a small beach and free breakfast. read more

He will tell you anything to get you to come to the resort he probably gets commission. (IfI was the owner he would not have a job) We wanted a resort with a beach that we could walk into, and he promised me that they had one! He said there is a walk in - swimmable beach - there is not! We specifically called there before we went and specifically asked for the walk-in beach he assured me that they had one and that a whole bunch of people swim in the beach there...I guarantee you they do not!!! The room-ocean view.: Our room we looked out from our patio and there was the ocean in the distance. Definitely beautiful! But first you have to look over two tops of two rusted trailers, and if you look down you see a pile of garbage. Yuk. The room has no drawers for clothing. The bolt on the door does not bolt! There is 1 Coffee cup in the room/ 1 chair/a small mostly unusable table (8"x 36"), beds uncomfortable. The coffee maker also did not work- no surprise. The girl at the front, Donna, was very nice. She tried to help but the manager would not return her calls. When we did complain she offered to switch our room to a non ocean view room- No! When we decided we were leaving even though we booked 4 nights she tried to offer us an oceanfront room but she even said she understood that it was not about the room as much as it was about the missing beach. It was not the room. It was not the unprofessionalism of the manager or set up of the "resort",if you want to call it that! We wanted a Beach that we could walk into the water and enjoy the beach! They did not have that! The manager 100% lied! Two days later I get a call from the manager.... He asked me what went wrong, and I told him! I'm writing to tell you about my recent stay in the Oceanside Trailer. We only live in Boynton Beach, and were excited to find this trailer on the beach for Memorial Day weekend. When we arrived on Saturday around 4pm, the trailer was insanely hot! In all honesty, it had to have been around 90 degrees or hotter in there; it was way cooler outside. I went to the front desk to see if there was a trick to cooling it down, but the gentleman said it will cool down when the sun goes down - and he provided us with a box fan. Which we were insanely grateful for. Being that it was a holiday weekend, most places were sold out and we couldn't just easily go somewhere else as we booked excursions over the weekend that were pre-paid in full. We suffered immensely that first night. We both sweat the whole night, got very little sleep. Also, how is there no bathroom light?! Zero privacy for a bathroom (the door was off-track and didn't close) and zero lighting is new to me. And I frequently stay in hotels, hostels, camp grounds, etc. The next day, Sunday, we had to leave the room by 10am as it was getting even hotter in there. We basically had to 'escape' all day to avoid cooking alive. At 8pm that evening, we simply couldn't take it anymore and decided to drive back home - cutting our vacation short. While I love the thought of an oceanside trailer in the keys, this particular space should only be rented from December through April due to its complete lack of insulation. You just can't cool it down when it's in the direct sun the way it is. Maybe try a sun shade. Anything. But please don't offer it to people like me looking for a fun getaway. Stay at this property if: You like to hit your head on low ceilings. You love being unbearably hot and uncomfortable. You like overpaying (hotel refuses to issue a refund) You are looking to be tortured. You don't mind pooping in front of your guests, in the dark. Our room was clean and refreshingly cool despite the intense July heat. We stayed 3 days yet only received the original 2 coffee packs, guess you should bring your own. Bed was comfy, view was a delight. The boat ramp and parking was not great. There's no stop on the ramp and your trailer will fall over the ledge. the angle is a nightmare!! Our trailer bottomed out and dragged so hard and loudly, people on the beach asked if we hit the side. The parking set up at the ramp is worse than awful. We had to ask someone to move so we could back in, then someone else had to move so we could angle the trailer to get out. Boat size 24' barely made the drop in without getting stuck in the muck. We aren't newbies/ nearly 30 years boating. I would stay at this resort if I didn't have a boat, but I'd still expect to park across the street. Tiny lot. I'll be honest - I am a resort kinda gal. My mom worked in hospitality for over a decade so I've always been reluctant to stay at smaller places. My fiancé and I decided to take an impromptu trip to Islamorada for NYE and found Drop Anchor. Oh. My. God. I have been missing out. It is the absolutely most PERFECT place to stay if you just want to get away and relax. I was blown away by how well maintained and cleaned the property and rooms are. Check in was simple and seamless. Everyone at the front desk is so nice and super helpful with all of the questions we had! We stayed in room 9 and absolutely loved it. It's on the second floor and looks out to the ocean. It was mesmerizing. The room itself is HUGE. You have a full kitchen in there, bathroom area with a decent sized closet and then bed/living area. And of course the patio! It was incredible watching the sunset and sunrise. They have a pool, games and kayak/paddle board rentals. We actually went kayaking the next day and I highly recommend it! Reasonable rates and beautiful area to go kayaking it. I was so sad to leave! I cannot wait to stay here again next time we are in Islamorada. read more

I typically do not stay in Islamorada. I prefer to travel further south to Marathon, to get away from the mainland. I loved this place! We stayed ocean front and enjoyed the fabulous view. It was windy during our stay so we didn't have the opportunity to use the paddle boards and kayaks but it's certainly convenient when the weather cooperates. There is a boat launch for boaters! The room was clean and the kitchen was stocked with minimum basics. Bring your own sharp knives, wine opener, egg turner etc. if you plan to cook and not just reheat leftovers. The location is good and you can easily walk to Hog Heaven which has excellent views and live entertainment. There are other nearby restaurants as well. read more

Hello, I travel frequently, and am not the type to leave a review, in fact for a hotel experience from the booking of it and the actual hotel stay, this was the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my 56 years.  I had to put the time in and get this review out there.  It's not just the hotel, it's also Hotel.com which I will never use again, and the hotel Drop Anchor in Islamorada, Florida Keys.  I go to Florida Keys 3/4x a year, me and the guys do fishing trips.  We always stay at the Breezy Palm in Islamorada.  Normally I call and book it over the phone.  This time however, I went online, wrote into Google, "Breezy Palm" and the Breezy Palm hotel  pictures and facility came up. So I continued the online process, checked availability, the Breezy Palms had the opening on my dates, and I went ahead and booked my room.   Turns out the online process runs through Hotel.com and they took my money for the whole 3 nights stay.  (Which normally the Breezy Palm only charges the 1st night and we square away on checkout) but, I didn't care, in the end, the amount is what it is.  They sent me a confirmation email with reservation number.  So on the date of my stay I arrive at the Breezy Palm (along with 9 other people for our fishing trip) the date is March 13, 2021, much to my surprise- no reservations!  I pull up my reservation number and the lady at Breezy Palm points out it's to a Drop Anchor Hotel 4 miles away?? And they are sold out at the Breezy Palm.  Why did Hotel.com show Breezy Palm pictures and facility, lead me to believe that I am booking the Breezy Palm, but really book me some where else?  THIS IS BAIT AND SWITCH TACTICS by Hotel.com.  The room rate was also $743 for 3 nights? Which is a little higher than normal for Breezy Palm, but at Breezy Palms there decent rooms, with bedroom, kitchen, and living room with pull out additional beds, the rate was marginally higher due to spring break season, which was Ok for the Breeze Palm to stay at. I would never EVER have paid that rate for the Drop Anchor no star hotel Hotel.com bait and switched me too!  When I get to the Drop Anchor, the room is about the size of a large over size closet and only one bed that barely fit in it - which didn't work for us, as we were two grown men that aren't gay. I immediately protested the room. They were sold out also, and didn't have rooms to switch, after some debate the attendant there brings a mattress that barely even fits on the floor. The room I am not kidding is the size of an over sized closet 10 X 8 maybe? With the bathroom!   I have pictures and videos of the room.   $743 for 3 nights and your in a oversized closet of a room, the a/c doesn't work - and it gets 90 outside, no closet to hang your clothe, no door for the bathroom (it's a sliding door with holes with no lock) the bathroom is maybe 2 feet wide? No fan for toilet, you can't sit where the toilet is as there is no room (has to be seriously out of code), you have to enter the shower sideways and slide in. The toilet paper holder is hanging from the wall.  Again, I have pictures it's shocking.  The shades on the windows are all broken and has holes all over them.   This room isn't even a Motel 8 caliber $59 a night room?  This room was most likely a storage room jammed together and converted into a very poorly made half bedroom to try and squeeze more rent out of something that shouldn't be rented.  I also question the safety of the room due to the bathroom serious out of code (spacing) construction and/or lack of its proper up keep and maintance.  When I complained and left a bad review, as Hotel.com sent me a link, the hotels response was "you booked it like that" which was never EVER the truth.  I am going to look to see if there is any legal recourse for leaving me stranded on my vacation like that for both Hotel.com and there bait and switch online tactic, as I'll bet I am not the only one this has happened too and Drop Anchor Hotel. This place was just what my Wife and I needed to extend Summer. We traveled down from RI and where blown away by this little Florida gem. Zac the manager took care of everything we needed, our room was clean and they provided Weber Grills to cook on the beach or outside your room. We rented the paddle boards for a day and explored the coast and sand bars. You can walk down to Hog Heaven if you want to go to the bar and there where plenty of great dinning options close by. The Midway Cafe was our favorite breakfast stop. We are 100% coming back, getting a suite with a kitchen and not leaving all winter!!! PS. They have a boat ramp you can use if you have a boat. If not they will send you to great boat rental spot down the street to go out fishing or to the famous sand bars. read more

Let's be honest it is the Drop Anchor MOTEL and Marina... which is fine. The original sign says Motel, all of the web presence says Resort... that's stretching it I think. But, it's a great Motel! It's clean, up kept, kitschy in a great old Florida type of way. Think 1950s/60s roadside Motel, well maintained and comfortable. The rooms are a good size. There is a beach area (no swim access) but fun to sit and have a drink and watch the boats drive by. There is a nice pool on the property. If you have a boat, this place is perfect. There is a boat launch and you can tie up right on the dock. Overall enjoyable stay! Note: I think it would be great if they rented fishing polls out and maybe some kayaks... this would be ideal! You could fish off the dock and launch kayaks right there... this would help actually make it a Resort. Easy to do I would think. read more

Drop Anchor is a cute little nook. It was a more affordable option for lodging attending a wedding close by. It's a good place for setting up base when you have some kind of watercraft with you here. There are a few hammocks and a small pool. The rooms are decorated in a caribbean style, some of which are pretty small and some are trailers. The beachfront isn't your standard beach with a sandy shore and it's a little disgusting to get in there. Again, it's mostly for boats. The staff was nice, but you only interact with them on check-in/out. There is no daily housekeeping so if you want dry towels, or more shampoo you must go to the office with your old ones. Most rooms share a wall or two and sometimes only a wooden door, which means that when someone turns on the TV at 2:00 am, you can benefit as well. read more

What a cool Place ! Perfectly located, Small place right on Hwy 1 that seats right on the Atlantic. We got room 12 which is like a small two bedroom townhouse ( with full kitchen and a living room. Super clean, AC in every room and super friendly stuff. The big surprise is the " back yard " which is basically a gorgeous private " beach " right on the water with a pool, many tables and chairs, hammocks and a million dollar view of the Atlantic. Do NOT let them put you in room 16B. The mattresses look and feel like they were picked up off the side of the road. They are completely broke down. My daughter fell off of hers because the sides are so broke down. The other bed has a giant crater in the middle that you roll in to. The bedding was dirty as well. I ended up sleeping on the tile floor., and we used our own pillows and blankets. The coffee maker is on a counter with no outlet. It has to be placed on the floor by the door to reach an outlet. Several outlets don't even work. We asked for clean towels on day 3 and were given pool towels instead. The only beverage machine on the property is out of order, and they do not sell anything in the office. We asked for a room change and were told it wasn't possible. I then ordered a mattress topper from Amazon to try to make it work, but it was shipped to the wrong address. We ended up leaving early. I asked for a refund, only for the day we left and received no response. The lady at the front desk is very sweet and the property is beautiful, but the rooms are very outdated. I don't know when the photos on the website were taken, or what photoshop program they used, but I doubt it was in the last 10 years. Our room was absolutely nothing like the pictures, nor were the ones on both sides of us. If there's no other options open in Islamorada, bring your own mattress and bedding. read more

We drove in to the keys from Jacksonville, with no reservations. I was so happy to find this place. The owner gave us a great rate. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the balcony view was beautiful. However, if you want an elaborate over the top priced place, I would not encourage you to go here. Only because I wouldn't want you to tarnish the atmosphere. Arrived at Drop Anchor at 7 pm after a 3 hour drive. The front office was locked up and dark. After checking the "Late Arrivals" mailbox on the wall next to the front door and not finding an envelope with my room key, I called the "emergency" phone number posted on the front door. Jeff, who actually took my reservation back on Feb 16, answered the phone and after confirming my info, informed me that my reservation was cancelled for some reason on Feb 22 and there were no rooms available that evening. He had no explanation for why they would cancel a reservation made on Feb 16 (screen shot attached) 6 days later without any notice to the guest. No email, no call, nothing. After making the reservation on Feb 16, I did not request a cancellation. In fact, I had no correspondence with Drop Anchor what-so-ever after the 16th. I stood in front of that locked-up office in amazement. It was now after 7 pm and I was 3 hours from home. Jeff was kind enough to suggest that I call the motel next door to see if they had any rooms. What a prince... Icing on the cake was that Drop Anchor ended up holding back $46 out of the $430 they charged my card for the room THEY cancelled. I called the next day and Jeff said he'd "circle back" to me about making things right. Never heard from him again. Ended up having to dispute the charge with Amex just to get a full refund for a reservation THEY cancelled. I'd avoid this place. But if you're feeling lucky and want to reserve a room anyway, my advice would be to call them and confirm that your reservation is still in place BEFORE making the trip down. read more

If you live in Florida, you know there are destinations around the state where you can pay a lot for a hotel yet get a little. Sanibel Island is one of them. The Keys are another. We were delighted to find that the Drop Anchor is a beautifully maintained little independent hotel right on the ocean in Islamorada. Painted charming pastels like the Bahamas, it recently undertook some renovations as a result of Hurricane Irma last year. We stayed in recently renovated Room 5 with an ocean view. The room was super clean with a nice bed and good linens. Many older hotels don't have central air, but our room at the Drop Anchor had a newer room AC that was more quiet and efficient than the old-fashioned window units. The room also had a nicely done kitchen with marble countertops and stainless appliances, equipped with enough kitchenware to prepare meals. Around the property are hammocks to lie in and a nicely kept pool area, with plenty of tables and lounge chairs. Zach and the other staff members we met were super kind and attentive. It's exactly what we want from a Keys experience: low-pretension, high authenticity, super friendly, super comfortable. Our room wasn't cheap, but we felt it was a fair price. We've certainly paid a lot more for a lot less. Highly recommended...we'll go back! read more

I booked a 1 bedroom queen room on Hotels.com. My wife and I decided to go down and visit friends in Islamorada. Let me just say the Florida KEYS has it's own Hotel rating system. Anyhow, we have been out most of the day having a good time and we needed to check into our room. The Manager said we are totally booked up. Okay, whatever... he gave us a set of regular keys from the 60's with the room number and the hotel name on them "Blue Anchor"... Not key access cards... don't loose your keys! or you will get robbed! So, we go around the building looking for room #17 dragging our suit case over gravel and soon to be sand because parking was only available in the front of the hotel. We could not find the room and then my face went blank. I gave my wife the stink eye... Staring at this beat up travel trailer parked next to the hotel (resort). I'm like my key is not going to open that door.. sure enough it did.. OMG! I'm in a hotel resort paying $200.00 a night for a green beat up travel trailer. Other guests reviews called it the Rockford trailer from the 70's show the "Rockford Files"... I called the front desk and they said that's all we have and it's a holiday weekend. I was doomed!!! So, we went out and drowned our sorrows and barely slept with the luggage pilled against the front and side door. We did not have dead bolts on either of the trailer doors... The inside bedding looked okay, but the white wicker furniture was ready for the bomb fire. OLD..OLD.. OLD furniture. I was on the phone with Hotels.com customer service for over 2 hours today. Just left Drop Anchor after a two night stay. Room was bright and clean, beds were comfortable. However there was no bureau/chest of drawers for our clothes which was odd because the room was plenty big to accommodate one. There was a small bureau between the beds but the drawers were painted shut. The room was big but no place to put anything, which felt weird. The window blind didn't function properly, when we arrived we tried to close the blind for privacy and the top trim fell off so we immediately told the man at the reception desk and his response was "ok we won't charge you for it". I did love how laid back and quiet it was. Something to consider, there is no onsite restaurant, coffee shop or convenience store. So you'll need to walk or drive for that. read more

We loved this little gem in the middle of the Florida Keys! We visited the Keys in September 2020 Having a private little sandy beach area to come back to when we were done exploring was the best! Are room was huge with all the amenities! And the complimentary sea salt scrub is amazing! I picked up 4 jars for Christmas presents. The staff was awesome to work with as well. Not much frills, but outstanding value in Islamorada. If you know of The Moorings just down the street, then I'd say this place is discount Moorings. It has a similar feel at much, much less cost. Beautiful beach with ample seating, everything is well manicured and clean, and the rooms are charmingly decorated and nice and cool. The beach is not really a beach, as in you can't / shouldn't swim in the water. But it does have a nice pool and sunrise view. At night there are many stars. Sunrise is peaceful and beautiful. Good food and drinks walking distance from the place. Friendly and prompt checkin, and rooms were clean. They even gave us the first round of beers on the house! We did not get the room we booked and paid for through booking.com. They also advertise a pull out sofa is actually a very uncomfortable futon. Our room was supposed to have a king size bed which it did not have. We communicated with management about this issue, their way of resolving it was to give us approximately two hours notice during the day to switch rooms. We were two hours away from our hotel and we were on the water so unable to get to our phones or move rooms in the small amount of time they gave us to do so. The office was closed when we returned from our day in Key West so we couldn't go talk to them when we got back. When we asked for some kind of compensation for not getting the room that we booked and paid for we were told management would contact us, almost one week later and we had never heard anything so we reached out to them again and they told us they would not compensate us anything because they offered to let us switch rooms. The time allotted for us to switch rooms it was not possible nor convenient. They have horrible customer service. Plus our room was old and run down, parts of it were dirty and dusty, there was mildew and mold in the shower, just to name a few things. I would never recommend staying here! The pictures and the blocking options are extremely deceiving. read more

I was quickly upgraded to a gulf view (# 3; I was originally slated for # 14). That was really cool. I had a wonderful view of the gulf for $113. Not a bad deal if I do say so myself. My apartment was very clean. I needed a remote for the TV, and someone quickly took care of that. The place was spacious, and included a kitchenette, a bedroom and a personal balcony. I couldn't help but think about how terrific this place would be for a family reunion, or group gathering. There is a swimming pool and a boat ramp. Also, there are all types a lounge chairs, Webber grills, hammocks and Tiki roofs. All of this is at a very affordable price. It's also ideal if you are just passing through. read more

As frequent visitors to the Florida Keys, I have to say we have found our new favorite place for our weekend getaways. A great way to experience the old Florida feel. After all that's what the Keys is all about. Extra clean rooms each with a different decor theme. The pool spotless, great little beach area with Tiki huts and a hammock for lounging with breathtaking views. Can't wait for our return! read more
