Few things could have pleased me more when turning 60 than waking up to find that my husband snuck out at 7am on a Saturday morning to stand in line waiting for Drop In Donuts to open so he could surprise me with a half-dozen donuts, each representing a decade I've spent on this planet. Well, maybe beer would be a tie, but not at 7am... and besides, that would be a different review. But back to Drop In Donuts. Drop In Donuts is so popular in the Fort Bragg/Mendocino Coast area and their donuts so damned delicious that you need to wake up at ungodly hours while on holiday there just to get a taste before they sell out. And they always sell out fairly quickly! Yeah, they're that good. This small shop features raised donuts as well as cake and traditional cruller style donuts on their menu. And according to their menu, they also occasionally have malasadas available, and apple fritters (but only on Friday). Drop In Donuts also features a rotating seasonal selection of ingredients and flavors. This time of year (November) featured coffee glazed and pumpkin spice glazed risen donuts. They were both soft and sticky and utterly delicious. Apparently the husband said they had a guava glazed donut, but he decided on a few other flavors like passion fruit glazed, coconut flake glazed, Mexican hot chocolate cake donut, and cinnamon sugar cake donut. They even threw in a complimentary handful of sugar coated donut holes in the box. Nice touch! If I knew turning 60 would be this delicious, I would have celebrated sooner! Stopped in here when on vacation. The donuts look super cute, great presentation. The shop is very cute. The lady that helped was very nice. As for the donuts they all tasted the same. It was the same dough for every donut. The only thing that was different was the icing colors & slight flavors that were added. But again the icing was also the same. The donuts are big but they are very overpriced. If they had a consistent shop that was open early morning to mid afternoon they would probably get more customers and not have to charge so much. Finally got the chance to check this place out. Their Mexican hot chocolate cake donuts were delicious! I got a mixed dozen and everything was pretty good. They even threw in a couple donut holes, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. So, I have to give Drop In Donuts based, not just our experience but the fact that this place has been discovered by others. We arrived at 9am on a Saturday and basically, almost all the donuts were sold. When they're gone, the store is closed. I had a Mexican chocolate donut and my wife had a cinnamon sugar donut - both excellent. The Mexican chocolate donut was very much like a Mexican hot chocolate - sweet with a little heat. Wonderful. Coffee was okay - not bad, but nothing fantastic. I asked the very nice guy behind the counter if this was normal and his reply was "today was pretty slow." Pretty slow? Almost sold out in less than 2 hours and that is slow? So, if you want max choices, you need to get there when they open - and that tells you a lot. read more

My 'day off' started early as I'm not a big sleeper. It must be becauseI am #HanSolo. I grabbed my phone to see what laundromat was open early. I chose a cinnamon roll as it's the favorite of my kids and boy is it an eye opener... it is ginormous and I'm not just saying that because I'm a guy. I've been coming to Fort Bragg 10 times per year and have spent summers here with my local folks for 25 years, so I know that Fort Bragg has needed a good donut shop for a long time; unfortunately, this is not the one. I bought 7 donuts and a cinnamon roll (no price listed for the cinnamon roll) for my family, and my total was $35.50. I found out later that the cinnamon roll was $7.50, but it was no different than the rest of the donuts. These donuts are CHEWY and tough. They all taste the same, and the flavors in the icing were difficult to detect. Also, the donuts were stacked on top of each other in the box, making a sticky mess out of all of the icing. Ugh! The locals hanging out were also so fun to chat with. We came in a little late. So the selection of donuts was minimal. It certainly didn't stop me from enjoying a Strawberry Donut. We loved the donuts from here! We accidentally discovered this place while driving through Fort Bragg. We stopped to see if we could try an apple fritter but the owner only makes them on Fridays so we were out of luck. But we tried a couple of other donuts - Meyer lemon and a cinnamon roll. They both were fantastic! Still warm from the oven, moist, flavorful, and absolutely delicious! The owner only makes about 8-10 different kinds of donuts each day so the selection is limited, but I'd rather have someone do something well and in limited selection than mediocre and a lot of it. I'm positive you can't go wrong with anything you choose at this place. We'll be driving back through Fort Bragg in a few days and we plan to stop again and this time it will be Friday so we'll try for that apple fritter AND we plan to try everything else as well. This is a cute little donut shop just off Hwy 1. Because of it's convenient location and great yelp rating, we decided to give it a try. The parking out front is loading/unloading, so you may have to drive a bit to find a spot. The employee was nice and was wearing a mask. My husband felt the donuts were a smidge pricey at $2.50 each, but to be fair, they are larger than an average donut. We tried Passion Fruit and you could really taste the passion fruit flavor. We also tried Blackberry which was just a plain donut with a little blackberry flavor in the frosting. The donuts themselves were chewy and a bit tough; not dry or super dense exactly, but we did not like feeling that we had to bite hard and really tear our donut to get a piece off. Really unique flavors, decent drip coffee. The donuts are huge! Which, since they are small batch that makes total sense. We showed up at 10:30am and the selection was still decent. I selected Guava because I'd never seen that flavor in the wild before. My wife got vanilla bean because the chocolate was chocolate rose and floral flavors are a no go for us.
