This was not a very stellar experience. It was our Mom and Dad's 50th Anniversary and it didn't go very well. We had a reservation for 1800. We arrived early and still had to wait a half hour to be seated in a room that appeared to originally be empty. As there were 14 of us, we thought we'd get to sit together, but there were 2 tables apart from each other. The tables were nicely dressed, though, so... Score! We each got a menu, but didn't get a drink menu. We were seated for quite some time before anyone (2, it turns out) came to take our orders. When the waitresses came around they didn't ask us what we wanted to drink, we had to ask what they had. The answer was Coke products or a full bar (but what is in a full bar? Surely you don't have EVERY beer and wine.). The waitress did then bring a drink menu. One person in our party ordered cheese curds. The waitress, sometime later, came to him and said that they don't have a cheese curd side, but only an appetizer. I don't understand why she didn't think to reason that out, but by the time she finally brought them out dinner was coming out. Dinner was sometimes warm and other times cold. One person in our party got undercooked (possibly even raw) fish. She said it was like they took it out of the freezer and put it on the plate. She said they didn't offer to bring something else. They didn't even take it off the check. We had to request it be removed. The waitresses were nice, though they seemed new or unknowable of the menu. They couldn't answer questions when asked. One person asked what the walnut balls we're and in a tone that was sort of condescending (albeit with a smile) she tells him it's vegetarian and unless he's vegetarian he probably wouldn't like it. One person asked for a loaded baked potato and got sour cream. Another person asked for a loaded baked potato and got mashed potato with all the fixings. One person got prime rib and didn't get horseradish, but was too afraid to ask for it. One person ordered prime rib and said it was mostly fat. Personally, I wanted to order scallops, as I love scallops. My Husband told me our niece had had them twice and got sick both times. Given that information, not only did I decide against it, I decided against any fish, which is my usual go to when I go out to eat. We were not asked if everything was okay or if we needed anything else until dinner was over. Nor were we asked if we wanted second drinks, except for my husband. We went through the two bottles of water almost as soon as they brought them out and they only replaced the bottles once in the middle of dinner. We were asked if we wanted boxes, so there's that, I guess. From the moment we walked in to the moment we walked to our cars, it was over 2 hours, which was extremely hard on a toddler. Sadly, though not surprisingly, given the ratings, this was not a good experience. I feel bad for our Mom and Dad. I don't believe any of us will ever be back. read more

I never write reviews but felt the high quality of this meal deserved to be acknowledged. The best meal I have eaten out in a very long time. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. The food looks appetizing and tastes great. The salad bar was amazing. I usually only get the mixed salad and skip mayo type side salads. I couldn't resist trying the potato salad and Cole slaw....they were not swimming in dressing...just enough to hold everything nicely together and had great flavors. I swear, the potato salad was as good as I remember my mother's from decades ago. They make their dinner rolls in house and wow....can you taste the difference. The fish was served steaming hot with an extremely light and crunchy batter. It was a very scenic drive and did not seem to take long at all! The Norwegian decor was interesting but not overdone. The view looking out at the wooded hills created a very peaceful vibe. The staff all the way around made you feel very welcome. Even though it was a busy Friday night ,the service was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be returning ! read more

They have wonderful food, service, and ambiance. I have no complaints with this place they're polite at servers are and raiders are very kind and the regular food and their seafood are delicious the solid bar is to die for. read more

We made reservations for 6:30 pm and were seated. We waited about :30 min to order our cocktail. Another:45 min for a waitress to take our order. There was a wedding reception at the same time. It was over an hour for our food to be delivered. When I questioned the waitress regarding the time she said they were short only two cooks and there were only two waitresses in the dining area. Very shorthanded for the amount of activity. When our food did finally arrived the order was mixed up and not properly cooked. My wife's Beef tips were way overcooked and unsatisfactory. My prime rib was ok but there was to much pepper. The wait staff was working hard to make a bad situation better. Management definitely failed Saturday evening. I could go on and on and but I will say Saturday night was a real disappointment as compared to the wonderful experience we had at the Sunday bunch a couple of weeks ago. The Sunday brunch I rated at 5 stars. Last Saturday night I rate at 2 stars. The ambiance was as expected. It will be a long time before I try another evening or invite or recommend it to friends. read more

Overpriced golf for the mediocre ( at best ) layout. I was also given three different prices. One on-line, one on the phone, and another different one at the counter, from a guy who was very unfriendly. All the other courses in the area are far superior, and I have played all the local courses from Trempealeau to Viroqua, Sparta, Valley High, etc, and the people are all much friendlier both in the club house and on the course. I will never waste my money at this course again. ( I have played here at least 20 times over the last 30 years, and same results. They get no more chances.) read more

Went for supper with a party of 9. Myself and my sister in-law don't eat very much and we knew we could not eat a whole prime rib meal by ourselves, so we decided to buy 1 meal and split it up at the table. I asked for an extra plate. When the bill came the server informed us of a forced gratuity (which I don't mind and understand) as well as a $5 upcharge for splitting a meal. We were not informed of the $5 up charge while ordering and the kitchen wait staff did not split our meal for us. While $5 is not really a lot of money, it makes me angry that we were never informed at the time of ordering and forced to pay. $5 will be the reason I never eat at Drugan's restaurant again. read more

I like Drugan's, on a Friday night- for one big reason- their salad bar. So far, it's the best that I have found in the Coulee Region. So far, every time that I have been there (and we've been about 5 or 6 times now, since fall of 2008 when we first "discovered" Drugan's) their salad bars have been fresh, interesting, high-quality and well-maintained. They also serve a fresh soup, and side rolls a'plenty (both light and dark) are available, as well as a hot-bacon dressing my wife says "is to die for". Typically, I'll order the Friday Night Fish Special (a Wisconsin tradition, restaurants around here are graded on the quality of their Friday Night Fish) which is a battered white cod. This is served with your choice of either a baked potato, or french fries. Drugan's is one of the last places in the area still offering an "All-you-can-eat" selection, currently priced at $11.99, as of 8/15/09. Their fish is well above average, and worth making the drive out for. I read the other reviews, and I was saddened to hear of their different experiences. Most of the time, I have had a very good experience here- with friendly, professional waitstaff and in an absolutely gorgeous setting. Once, we did have a younger "trainee"-type waitress, but the food wasn't bad- just service was slow and inattentive. But like I say, that only happened once, mostly we are always very pleased with both the service and the quality of the food, and look forward to making a special trip out to Drugans. One hint- if you get there after the main rush- just a little past 7pm on a Friday- it seems like we really have never had to wait more than two or three minutes for a table. read more

We had a very nice dinner on Saturday night. It was very clean and socially distant. Very comfortable during this Covid time. The salad was great and the tenderloin tips were excellent. We had the best hash browns ever. We had wonderful old fashions prior to dinner. The food was great the service was great and the views were wonderful. My family and I made reservations for 6pm on 2/14/20. We were promptly seated in the overflow porch area. After waiting 15 minuets for a server, a tall short haired server came and asked if we were ready to order. She never asked if we wanted to hear the specials or if we wanted a drink. I told her that I would like a drink and she then told us what the specials were. The male staff member then turned the heat up as it was very cold on the porch. After about 20 minuets with not getting my drink I went to the bar and was going to order my drink but the bar tender told me that this must be my drink that was sitting there for 15 minuets. After 1 hour our food arrived. the waitress never asked about the drink as well never asked if any one else needed one for the rest of out time there. At a certain point I got up and served water to my table as well other guest in the porch area. When our dinner was served my meal wasn't complete. Being Valentines night I ordered the Prime Rib and a Lobster Tail. well no lobster tail was delivered. By this time I asked her where the rest of my meal was, and she was clueless. I wasn't going to tell her. My wife finally told her that I was missing the lobster tail. My mothers meal had to be returned to the kitchen to be warmed up as the meal was cold. When you pay $40.00 for a meal, the average person would like the compete meal as well good service. We will not be returning. read more

I had a wedding booked for Drugan's, but we decided to move our wedding to our current city 200 miles away due to logistical reasons. When cancelling eight months in advance, we lost out on our full $1,000 deposit, which Drugan's was unwilling to return. Although frustrating, this was understandable as it clearly states in the contract we would lose our full deposit. However, when I asked if I could use the $1,000 deposit towards booking a different event at Drugan's, I was told word-for-word "What you're asking, in essence, is for money back." I'm not sure how applying my deposit towards a different event at the same place is asking for my money back, but it was worthless arguing with her, and at this point I have no desire to do any sort of business with them in the future. read more

It is not an exaggeration to say that my family has been going to Drugan's for 20 years. It is also not an exaggeration to say that we had the most unpleasant experience there last month. We had a large party (16), so I made sure to call ahead to make reservations. When we got there we were told our table wasn't ready. It was a Saturday night, so I expected it to be busy. It wasn't. The restaurant was by no means full and the room where our table was was completely empty. After a 15-20 minute wait we were finally seated and waited another 10 minutes for our two servers to take our drink orders. I understand that we were a large party, but quite frankly the two servers were overkill, especially since the more experienced server kept bickering with the obviously new one. It was completely inappropriate, but by no means the low point of the evening. That was most definitely the hour+ wait for our food. Again, I understand we had a large party and we expected a wait, but certainly not over an hour. What made it worse was that there was no explanation, no apology, not even a "your food will be right up". After an hour we asked if the children's food was ready (we had four kids aged 4-9 with us) and were told it was not. I've never worked in the restaurant business, but I know one of the first rules is to make sure kids are served as promptly as possible. During our wait we were never asked for refills or more drinks. Worse still, the kitchen "forgot" to make one of our meals and again were given no apology. In fact, we were charged for the "forgotten" meal. I can't imagine this happening at ANY other restaurant I've been to. We were of course charged an 18% gratuity "for our convenience", which was by no means convenient for us as we certainly wouldn't have tipped 18% for the service we received. The icing on the cake was that when I asked to speak to manager to offer some feedback on our visit I was told that someone would call to follow up and was assured they would do what they could to make it up to us. As I live out of town I requested they phone my step-mom; they didn't. That to me is a clear statement that they do not care about our business, as was already clearly expressed by the service we received, and we will happily take our business elsewhere from now on. We have all agreed that we will not be returning to Drugan's. It is also worth noting that they only have one vegetarian option on their menu and it was disgusting (broccoli and marinara). read more

We ate here this weekend for my husband's 15th reunion, and it was great! The salad bar was really good, and had a lot of choices--a lot of mayo salads, but that's typical for Wisconsin. For dinner we had mashed potatoes and rice, baked chicken, fried fish, beef tips, and green beans. The rice, fish, beans, and beef were surprisingly good. I don't usually expect much out of a buffet, but the food was great! And not too expensive, either. I would go back for dinner sometime, and I would recommend it. read more

We've been to Drugan's many times in the 20+ yrs we've lived in Holmen. The salad bar is a 5*, but the fish/chicken combo is not what it used to be. Chicken was bland, fish was chewy. Service was good tonight, but probably only because the place wasn't very busy.....like it usually has been in the past. Not sure what's happening, or changed, but it will be a long time before we consider visiting again. We'll need to see/hear some better reviews. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE! My family reserved the back room to celebrate my grandfather's 90th Birthday. We were sitting at the table for only 2 minutes when our 16 year old server asked us if we were ready to order our entres; we hadn't even ordered drinks yet! When asked what Whiskey was available the server's response was " I have no idea".... seriously, what kind of response is that! Once our drinks arrived, our servers started taking entre orders. When asked what soups were available, one server responded again with "I have no idea" and the other server for our table pronounced Minestrone as MINE-Strone, seriously, who trained these servers?! Finally, food arrives. I ordered the broiled shrimp and was brought fried shrimp. We waited 10-15 minutes after our food arrived for various accompaniments to our meals. Finally, I approached the manager who was standing by the host stand doing nothing while her waitstaff ran around like chickens with their head's cut off. I was forced to explain to the manager how to do her job, and finally we started getting some service. I told her to run our drinks that were sitting in the bar well, bring 4 drawn butters, a bottle of ketchup, and to check on my broiled shrimp that I had been waiting 20 minutes for (which should have taken 10 minutes to rectify as it only takes 3-4 minutes to broil shrimp!). Bottom line, this place needs to provide much better training to their service staff. In fact, maybe the owners need to take a look at the management they have hired and ensure that they understand what it means to provide service in a restaurant. read more

We just had our small (30 people) wedding and reception here. I can say enough about the wonderful service from planning a outdoor wedding in a month to the set up plus the food was to die for!! Mary made everthing so easy. Even with the raining day we still managed to have the wedding outside,they made sure all the chairs got wiped down so nobody got a wet seat. We also go out to dinner there for Valentine`s day every year and always friendly service with great food. read more

Went there last week for a business meeting/ dinner/ presentation. Ordered the seafood platter. Therre is no way the scallops could have been cooked more without cremating them. Lobster tail was dry, shrimp rubberry. I know they can do better I have had great meals there in the past. Step it up a bit guys. read more

Do yourself a favor and keep driving to a real restaurant in La Crosse or Onalaska. Apparently they do no realize that there is excellent just a short drive away.....this really is the McDonald's of "fine dining". Let me start by saying that if you have dietary restrictions....do not expect them to accommodate. Let's talk about the service.......again, I would compare to what you would get at McDonald's (we did have another waitress that kept clearing our table that was much more attentive than ours). Finally...the food...the seafood chowder was great.....unfortunately, that is it. Most of our table had fish.....nasty, slimy and very much lacking flavor. The french fries vacillated between burnt on one plate and a heap of soggy mess on another. The kids mac and cheese was basically noodles with shredded cheese on top....so dry that we had to add milk to get the kids to eat it. We were less than impressed years ago when we tried this place and at least they maintain their level of disappointment. Do yourself a favor and keep driving to a real restaurant! read more
