One of the slowest pharmacy-type stores you'll ever experience. Take a look inside this place each time you walk by. Guaranteed, there's a line with about 10 people in it at any given time, all looking miserable as they wait for the cashiers here to ring them up. It's seriously uncanny how slow the service is at this place. Just walk an extra block or two in any direction and pick any other CVS/Duane Reade or whatever other place, and avoid this place at all costs. read more

I just left the Duane Reade grumpy As the cashier with a large lcross tattoo on her neck is giving me Jane she informs me that she does not have pennies. She informed me that instead of Duane Reed losing 3 pennies there were going to withhold my 2 pennies. Sue seemed to find it preferable for the customer to be short changed then for Duane Read to lose 3 pennies due to their failure stock pennies. Shidiak our manager over after I complained to bed I knew as able to get to the knees from another register. Jubus rude in a dignity I must talking ever make as I explained where many customers hours worked change the change begins to get up in the favor of the cashier. Perhaps she saving our pennies for new fake ffingernails, although more beneficial if she purchased an attitude adjustment. She continue to address me rudely and out of turn. In this case I don't know how many pennies she will collect, but the case was same for the next customer, as well, and they add up by the end of the day. For the case id the company with 1 million customers, rounding up one penny could equate to $10,000 in someone's pocket. read more

I value locally owned stores of all kinds, and tend to avoid the big chains. I used to go to a pharmacy around the corner from my house, but they opened after I left for work, and closed before I got home, so I wasn't able to pick up my prescriptions. So I grit my teeth and went to the Duane Reade near my job, expecting an impersonal experience. But instead I found the pharmacist, Gary Cohen. Gary is patient, and thoughtful, and knowledgeable--not only going out of his way to make sure that everything medical is in shape, but also with insurance. The other pharmacy staff is also great. They remember me, and are friendly, efficient, and kind. I'm taking off a star just because it's a big chain, and because I never actually buy anything other than my prescription meds, but the pharmacy itself gets 5 stars. read more

I just come here to see Gary in the pharmacy! I swear hands down he is really awesome.. He takes his time and explains everything to you. He is knowledgeable helpful. Other then him, its your typical Duane Reade and learn when and when not to go to avoid crowds! read more

Yes, I'm reviewing a DR. Deal with it. Unfortunately I have a really shitty/dirty CVS near my apartment, so, I stop by here when at work to pick up whatever items I need. The store is clean, bright and well stocked. Things that you'd think are commonplace amongst all drugstores, but not always the case. The ladies and gentlemen that man the cash registers (no self-serve checkout here) work their butts off. They are pleasant, efficient and excellent multi-taskers. Hooray. read more

This is my second review of this Duane Reade. Unfortunately nothing has changed. My go to pharmacies in the area are CVS on Fulton Street because the staff there is so friendly and helpful, and I also go to the Duane Reade on Wall Street where customer service is reasonable. After leaving CVS today, I realized I forgot to buy one item. I didn't want to go all the way back there, and knew that if I wanted it to be convenient I had to go to this Duane Reade on John Street, which is the absolute worst. Well, as expected, the cashier was so rude it was unbelievable. They didn't say a word, didn't make eye contact, nothing- throughout the entire process of my purchasing this item. It's as if the staff there works on a volunteer basis because they act as if they are doing the customers a favor. Since this has been going on for years, it must be a poor management staff that allows this to happen. That's the only explanation. Because about 4 blocks over at CVS, the staff is great. I will continue to avoid this location as much as possible. It's an awful experience every time. read more

Great location, the staff here is always pleasant and very helpful. The Chase ATM saves me a two block walk *lazy*. The pharmacists have offered great advice on over the counter meds and flu shot information. read more

This place has the nicest staff ever. The store is always clean. They have Pringles and SmartPop white cheddar popcorn (both regular and reduced fat). DeLish sparkling lemonade is the bomb. Seriously, what more are you looking for in your local neighborhood Duane Reade store? Because I'm out of things to write. read more

So I've been looking for a birthday card for my niece who will have her Sweet 16 party in a few weeks. For some reason, I can't find one, n matter how many stores I go to. I find niece cards, and other ages but not 16. Today after shopping in the area for her gift I came in here and found a card for a 16 year old girl. I went to pay for the item and thankfully the line was fast and short. read more

Perfectly normal Duane Reade. Open 24 hours. The one thing that bothers me is that every time I come here, they seem to lose my prescription i.e. I drop it off in the morning, come back at noon to pick it up, and then the staff informs me that they forgot to process it, which means I have to wait again. read more
