We originally wanted to try the One Night in Bangkok next door but it was closed on a Sunday (so be sure to call head for times). The duck roll was on point - thin and crispy roti with a very good amount of duck inside, and so flavorful. The Pad-si-ew was also delicious with good amount of veggies and protein. Noodles were just right. Finished off with the crème brulee with ginger and omg it was the perfect dessert to finish off our meal. I will def be coming back to try more of their entrees and desserts! So I REALLY wanted to like this place because it was hyped up by my cousins but I just couldn't like it. I took my family of 8 there on a Saturday night. No wait and we got seated fast. However, that was the only fast service we got. We waited for 10-15 minutes and still no waiter came. I asked someone if he could get us water and he said our waiter will be right with us. When our waiter finally came, he did not apologize for the wait. All through the night, food was very slow in coming out. Entrees probably took 30 minutes to come out. The food was honestly not very good. The pad Thai was too sweet. However, I did appreciate that they put the large shrimp in the pad Thai. Their lychee dumplings sounded interesting but it was such a miss. The combination of sweet/tart lychee did not go well with savory meat. Their fish was just okay. We ate here today and all four of us enjoyed our lunch there. The portions aren't overwhelmingly large, which some might say is a good thing and some a bad thing. I ordered the stir fry vegetables with tofu and the dish was very flavorful. My two complaints about this dish is that it was oddly sweet (I'm guessing they add sugar to suit the American tongue) and had too much oil in the dish. Ate here in a Sunday. A bit of a challenge, since I don't like spicy food and my friends is allergic to crustaceans. This eliminated a good portion of the menu especially since they do not have a separate oil for frying that dishes containing crustaceans were fried in. We started with roti duck roll (with the hype and would get again), the special lychee dumplings (delicious and interesting combo of meat and sweet fruit), and the satay skewers (recommended by the waiter and would get again). For our mains we got the seared sea scallops (good), pad Thai with chicken (very good), and the whole fried rock fish (he decided to chance it and take a pill). I'm so sad to say, having been a fan of Duangrat's for decades. It was awful. The noodles (we ordered three seperate entree dishes) we cooked well beyond reason. They were starchy mushy yuck. The proteins (two chicken, one tofu) were beyond scarce, maybe a few pieces only in each. And they forgot to include my iced tea (which they said they would refund when I called). I don't think I'll be eating there or having delivery again. Sad indeed. read more

My first time in this long-standing establishment. The positives were plenty of parking, a really nice dining room and very attentive service. The food was OK. There's a lot of great Thai food in the region so it is not near our favorite. For example, I think the noodles could've been cooked to be a little more tender, same with the eggplant. My friend and I checked out a new fragrance spot around the corner and decided we wanted Thai. We came here and parking was pretty easy. We were a little confused on if we were supposed to go upstairs but we stayed downstairs since we saw people eating. This is definitely one of the better Thai places we have been to in the DC area. Prices weren't cheap, per se, but were totally fair given the quality and presentation of the food, the attentiveness of the service, and the upscale ambiance. I also appreciated how much more extensive this menu was than many other Thai restaurants I have been to, with creative options I haven't seen elsewhere. While they had standards like drunken noodles (which both of the other people eating with me ordered), I got a fried cod with a chili sauce that was really nice and different. We also had a savory fried plantain appetizer that was really nice and almost meaty. I love fried plantains but am used to them being much sweeter, rather in SE Asian restaurants or Caribbean ones. Really enjoyed my first experience here at this [relatively] historic institution. It claims to the first Thai restaurant of its kind in the area, opening in 1987 and winning several local culinary awards and recognitions in the ensuing decades. The interior of the restaurant is beautifully decorated in red, gold, and white, with lots of relics from Thai culture adorning the space. The service was friendly and professional. The menu focuses on Thai street food. We love the food, my favorite dishes are the Duck noodle soup, fried calamari, chicken satay, and the coffee. I just love this place. I can make good shrimp tom yum soup at home, but gosh I love to get it here. We love the beef with basil and broccoli, but there are so many dishes we have shared and enjoyed on top of that staple. Returned after years specifically for the chicken Bhram entree (chicken curry w cabbage). The dish was much sweeter and the sauce more soupy (watery) than I recall. Too sweet actually. Not enough Napa cabbage and too many bitter stalk pieces to my disappointment. I also ordered pork spring rolls which had a slight stale after taste but not bad enough to not eat one. Thai Fried rice w pineapple added for an extra $1.50 was unremarkable and lacked flavor. Service was pleasant enough. Had to pour my own water. Maybe it's customary here. What a good place to eat. The duck rolls, papaya salad, and chicken ka prow are my favorites. This is a delicious spot, and lots of choices on the menu. Prices have gone up, but this is everywhere due to inflation. Hoping one day it'll drop a little, but a lot of economic reasons are in play. Their meals are good size, and the quality is excellent. Duangrat's continues to be one of our weekly favorites. The food is excellent as well as the service. Today my husband had a perfectly prepared scallop dish and I had a bit of a pefectly prepared seafood medley of fish, shrimp, baby clams etc. Without the menu in front of me, I am afraid I can't name either one but hopefully you can pick it out from the menu by my description. Came here on a Saturday evening Parking was easy to find around the corner of the restaurant. It was pretty busy when I got here but it wasn't too loud. I liked the ambiance of this place. It wasn't too bright but not too dark. Candles were lit on each table. It felt like a very family friendly restaurant. I was pretty hungry so I ended up ordering a ton of food. I got the fried crab, chicken wings, drunken noodles, a drink and my partner got pad see ew. Overall the food was very tasty. The wings were crispy but the sauce was a tad bit too sweet. They get served pretty quickly too! They are pretty accurate with their spice levels for each dish but you can modify the levels if needed. Their meats are seasoned so nicely alongside the leftover sauce that goes well with the rice. They give you a lot of rice for your dishes too. Absolutely Awful - Never Again I don't know what everyone else is tasting, but Duan Grat might be the single worst dining experience I've had in years. The food came out cold, somehow both soggy and dry, and tasted like it had been sitting in a microwave for an hour. I ordered Pad Thai and got a sad, clumpy mess with rubbery chicken and zero flavor--unless "burnt soy sauce" counts. The service? Practically nonexistent. Our server looked like they didn't want to be there (honestly, neither did we after 10 minutes). It took forever to get our drinks, and we had to flag someone down just to get utensils. The atmosphere was just as disappointing: flickering lights, sticky tables, and music that sounded like it was being played off a broken Bluetooth speaker.
