I've had the most solid Thai food here and truthfully my go to. Service is always spot on, easy to get a table, food comes out fast, hot, delicious. One of the few places I'd vouch for their drunken noodles all day. Noodle soups are a favorite here. Secret menu on Facebook, with favorites like pork belly sold until they're out. Near the end of our trip we were craving a taste of home and Mum Aroi did not disappoint! I immediately felt comforted when we walked in. The restaurant is a comfortable size and the traditional decor, table setting and smell was heart warming. We were seated and served incredibly fast too. It reminded me of eating f grandma's. We started with their fried chicken wings and those were just like my mom's/grandma's - very crispy and flavorful! I was craving Pad See Ew and it was delicious. The sauce had the umami flavors and plenty of protein + veggies. My cousin ordered the Thai Boat Noodles and the presentation was very cute. The noodles were soft, with a layer of sauce cooked to crispy-like feel, if this makes sense. I did ask for number one spiciness, it felt like 3-4, but that's only me. I also tried their Garlic Cilantro eggplant, and substituted beef to shrimp; it was a little too salty, and the sauce too thin. Mum Aroi became my top 2 favorite Thai restaurants in the DMV. We stopped by a few minutes after opening on Saturday ready to eat. After perusing through the menu, we noticed the extremely affordable pricing of all the items where most of them were under $20??? In this day and age, that's crazy. STIR-FRIED BABY CLAM WITH CHILI PASTE - 18 This was definitely my favorite dish out of the four. There was a generous amount of clams, each one soaked up a good amount of the rich black bean and garlic sauce, which really elevated their sweet and tender flavors. I even drizzled some of the sauce over the rice that we got on the side. The only issue we encountered was that a few of the clams weren't thoroughly washed, leaving some residual shell fragments. DRUNKEN NOODLE (PAD KEE MAO) - 13 They didn't use much dark soy sauce to add a deeper brown coloring for the drunken noodles, so the color of the dish ended up lighter than what we're used to. However, the flavor was spot on. The basil sauce was lightly spiced from the red chili bits, giving the dish a perfect balance of sweet and savory. The basil added a subtle, earthy note. KHAO NIAOW MOO PING - 12 Each order comes with four long skewers of Thai BBQ pork, accompanied by a tangy sauce on the side and served with sticky rice in a bamboo basket. The moo ping was incredibly juicy, flavorful, and tender. The marinade was on the sweeter side with some umami from the fish sauce. They were perfectly grilled and went well with the sticky rice. Absolutely delicious, this was a close second for me. TOM YUM NOODLES SOUP - 15 Tom yum noodle soup is a classic that we had to get. The noodles were on the softer side and soaked up the savory, sour broth nicely. There was plenty of minced pork, fish balls, and green onions for toppings. While it was good and warmed us up, I didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary. The three of us ate until we were stuffed and still had leftovers. After tax and tip, I think we paid less than $25 per person. I would definitely come back to order the stir-fried clams and moo ping again. Ordered takeout delivery of fried chive dumplings, sun dried beef, and Pad Thai Noodles with shrimp. Chive dumplings were a bit gelatinous. I thought they were ok. But then I put them in the air fryer two days later and they were awesome. I get it now. Dipping sauce was perfect. I would order it again but air fry to crisp it back up. The beef, as other Yelpers noted, was the best. The flavor was incredible. The portion was generous. This is a must get dish. I skipped the sauce and ate them "plain". They are not plain The Pad Thai, the dish all Thai restaurants will be judged, was deemed to be worthy. Very, very good! Packaging was great too. Service 4/5 The waitress was very nice and attentive. She explained some of the dishes to us. There weren't a lot of people so she checked on us often. The food was brought out hot and quick. Tom Yum Soup - Chicken ($7) 4/5 The soup was nice and sour with a bit of heat, but wasn't too spicy. The chicken and mushrooms were chewy and the green onions and cilantro added a bit of crunch. Really enjoyed this soup and was a nice appetizer before eating my entree. Pad Thai - Chicken ($13) 4/5 The Pad Thai was tasty and filling. The chicken and tofu were firm and chewy. The bean sprouts were so fresh. The crushed peanuts added a nice crunchy texture to the mix. The noodles had a slightly sweet and peanutty flavor and was nice and chewy. Would definitely order this again. Mango Sticky Rice ($7) 3.5/5 The mango sticky rice was a nice treat to finish the meal. It was warm and the rice slightly salty. We chose to order some items to share so we could try more things. The best thing we ordered was the sun dried beef but everything we ordered was super flavorful and tasty. The meats were all tender! We were big fans of Rabieng and found out it was closed early summer. The Thai restaurant is now Mum Aroi, offering similar thai street food dishes. It was great to see that the restaurant was renovated. The lighting, the fixtures, the decorations all look new and modern. Service was awesome. We had a 10 month old and 4 staff came out to help with the high chair - it is a small restaurant and a high chair could occupy most of the hallway. The two waitresses were nice enough to play with my impatient baby. Duck noodle soup was my favorite dish in Rabieng. The broth was great at Mum Aroi, but it was a very small bowl for $15. Fried calamari was subpar, it tasted like microwaved calamari. The catfish salad was tasty but small for the price. Lastly my husband ordered a pineapple fried rice and he thought it was ok. I was still hungry after dinner and we went to the Thai grocery next door. They have a separate to go menu - I ended up ordering a $12 Hainanese chicken to go. After eating that, I felt full. Overall, they have a big menu and the price looks attractive but keep in mind they are relative to the food portion. We will still come again to try out other dishes. read more

I came here forgetting that Rabieng had closed down recently. I was relieved to see that Mum Aroi, a Thai restaurant, is now located here. The service here is fine, and the staff are friendly and very helpful. It hasn't changed much in atmosphere. I ordered the spring rolls as appetizers, and they tasted fresh and piping hot: the way I like 'em. You receive three. For the entree, I picked the crispy duck basil as one of their specialties. This is a typical favorite whenever I see it on the menu. Crispy? Yes. Basil? Yes. As for spicy, I was expecting medium spicy, but it was more like a light spicy, and yet the duck was crunchy, moist and flavorful I definitely wanted to leave the restaurant with a sweet note/taste. So I got their coconut ice cream with nuts on top. It was a nice ending to the meal experience, although it was a bit smaller than expected. Mum Aroi is an absolute hidden gem of a Thai restaurant located in Bailey's Crossroads. The two of us got beef boat noodles, fried chives dumplings, and drunken noodles to share. After we placed our order, they brought out a variety of chili oil/paste (very spicy so be careful!), flakes, and sweet chili sauces. The fried chives dumplings have a crispy surface and bursted with a rich savory flavor - highly recommend this dish for the appetizer! Beef boat noodles came out in a boat shape bowl (very fitting!) and the broth was so tasty. You get to choose from beef or pork for the protein and a variety of different noodles (I got the thin noodles). The drunken noodles, the classic Thai dish, had the perfect amount of sweet and spicy kick. You can choose the protein and we got pork, and it was juicy and tender. I absolutely love it here. This used to be Raibeng. I was a big fan, but throughout the years, Raibeng became tired and lesss tasty. I'm really happy with Mum Aroi's refresh! The food is spectacular, Prices are amazing, and the quality is great too. I've been here about 5 times since they opened, and I've tried their tofu appetizer, chive dumplings, vegetable dumplings, boat noodles, fried fish special, drunken noodles, and Tom yum noodles. Travel and been out of area for awhile, must been longer than we thought as we found our favorite for over 11 years was gone. A new Thai place had replaced one of our favorites. So disappointed, but gave new place a shot with an open mind. Definitely been remodeled & updated, nice & fresh, with new decor. Menu (very nice design) new options, with slightly higher prices. The new one has Beef Boat Noodles, a different look & flavor. It was delicious in it's own way, I finished it all as the picture shows. We started with Calamari, it really was quite good, flavor & crispness was on point. Fried just right with a gold crust served hot. We devoured it. My wife ordered yellow curry chicken, she enjoyed it and was not disappointed. Hard not to compare with the previous Rabeing restaurant, but wife said it held its own. Service was great, friendly and fast- checked on us often - water stayed full and extra rice was no problem. Prices are not crazy, portions do seem smaller than what we were accustomed too, but not terrible. Our past favorite will always be in our hearts & memories, but we look forward to making new ones here over the next 11 years (we hope). We recently tried this restaurant after finding it through Google. We were amazed by how tasty all of our food was. We had the Khao Soi, which is a hard to find northern Thai dish. It was delicious! In fact it was so good, we devoured it before we got a photo. Something else that was unique to this place is the craft "Thai" beer, which is actually from a local MD brewery. First time here. The restaurant is decorated very nicely. It's clean and bright. I ordered a shrimp and eggplant dish. It was not too spicy and hit the savory flavors well. I wish the serving size was a bit larger. I finished off my lunch with a mango and sweet rice dessert. It was slightly salty and sweet. It was a very nice way to finish my experience. My husband and I eat here at least once a month. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. I have celiacs and always order gluten-free modified items. With this return visit, I brought my brother and the vibe and decor was traditional, unique and comfortable. All the staff members were friendly, attentive and provided a pleasant atmosphere. All of the dishes we order were satisfying and delicious. 1) Sun dried beef served with sriracha and shredded carrots 2) Isaan sausages served with fresh cut julienne ginger, cabbage and roasted peanuts 3) Pad see ew with beef 4) Green curry with chicken and basil 5) Khao niew moo ping 6) Mango sticky rice. Though all dishes were amazing by itself, I used that as a staple by combining the mini buffet we had. I rolled some sticky rice into small bite size dipping it into the broth of the curry while layering my palate with different combinations between the proteins. The pad see ew was different and it's a must. The wok charred on the beef was incredibly delicious. The green curry with Thai spice was on point. Many will obviously and unfairly draw comparison to this restaurant's predecessor who ruled the scene for 30 years. It is a tough act to follow and of course the original is still best. But the food is not bad, but subjectively maybe not as good as before. My wife and I came in before 8 pm on a Friday night and were the only customers. Not a good look. A gentleman came in 20 minutes after and devoured a noodle dish even before we were done. The decor was classy and a good backdrop for a date night with practically just the two of us in the place. But the music that played was too pop as Bad Bunny and Olivia Rodrigo belted their hits putting a damper and distraction to what would have been a quiet dinner. Perhaps it is what keeps the only server/cashier on her toes. Service though, was efficient and wait times for orders to come reasonable. Beef garlic, crispy duck and squid (take out for our son) and crab fried rice amounted to close to $ 100. That's roughly $33 each for 3 people. This delightful restaurant took over the space that used to be Rabieng restaurant in Falls Church. I think this is a wonderful replacement as the food is even better than that of prior establishment and the menu was very interesting. The food was excellent . The service was excellent. The inside decor was charming. It is also adjacent to the most magnificent Thai supermarket that has so many different sauces spices and other items that anybody who likes to cook Asian food would have a wonderful time visiting. I found sauces that would help me to take some ordinary chicken into a Thai fantasy for my taste buds . We had 2 types of curries and the panang curry which I had was the best I've ever had anywhere. I could drink that sauce forever. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were delicious. My companion was very happy with her green curry and shrimp. The restaurant has a very interesting coffee ice cream dessert that is very intense flavor and worth trying. I cannot wait to return from my next meal here.
