Brand new restaurant just opened last Saturday (8/27/22). The plaza is next to Costco-Fremont with other new restaurants being opened. They offer combo meal including one side dish and drink. I only ordered the half beef/half tendon noodle soup. The soup base was great with so-called 23 spices. However, the bowl had very little beef when they served up. You have to ask for the special sauerkraut be be added on top of the noodle soup to enhance the flavoring. They did offer two more pieces of beef after I brought up the issue. Overall, the noodle soup was great but needs a little more noodle to make a great presentation. The pickled cucumber was not fresh and lack of garlic flavor. This shopping plaza is quite busy during meal times, so be wary that parking may be tricky and you might need to wait before being seated. My party of 3, on a Sunday afternoon, waited around 15 min, which seemed shorter since we got some boba from Mr. Green Bubble while waiting. There are also plenty of other options for small snacks if you are ravenous while waiting for your table. Food ordered: 1. Braised Peanuts (4/5): These braised peanuts are the perfect texture - not too crunchy, not too soft- and the flavor is delicate and delicious. 2. Deep Fried Pork Chop (5/5): We almost did not order this, but I'm so glad we did. I am a big band of hand pull or hand made noodle, but the one here might be a bit too wide, so next time I will try the others type. I am more of a fan of more round and chewy noodles, this one is just really wide and flat, is just ok imho. Every noodle can be turn into a combo meal, giving you an option to get a appetizer plus a drink. Braised dish platter are ok, a lot of sesame oil. The fried pork chop is quite good here, but the fried rice was just solid but not great. The noodle soups here are 10/10 delicious and authentic. It's in a busy plaza so parking can be difficult on weekends, but the food is worth it! We ordered the beef shank noodle soup and chicken noodle soup with the flat noodle and hand pulled noodles (each soup comes with the option of either thin, flat, or hand pulled noodles). Personally I enjoyed the hand pulled noodles, though I can see how they can be too thick for some as they're over an inch thick. Texture was qq and tasted handmade. My favorite part was the broth itself, it can be so difficult to find taiwanese chicken soup which I prefer infinitely over American chicken noodle soup. Service was quick and efficient. I read the review for their other location in Cupertino, so I wasn't very impressed, my friend wanted to give it a try at this location, here we are. I thought it was going to be crowded, so I arrived right after they opened at 11:30am, only a few tables was seated during the entire time we were there; during prime lunch hours on Sunday. There were two servers serving a few tables, no more than 10 people dining in at the time. Service was good, though, it has room for improvement considering the amount of people dining and the amount of people working, service was not very fast. However, food came out at a timely manner. I specifically asked to skip green onions and cilantro on my beef noodle soup, and she repeated and took note, however, the chefs in the kitchen didn't read it. It came out with tons of cilantro all over my soup. They were very good about exchanging my order at the timely manner. We both ordered a combo; which came with a side dish and a tea, for about $27. I thought it's a little pricey, but I guess it's the new norm post pandemic. I ordered the pickled cucumbers and a salted plum tea. I was disappointed at both. First, the pickled cucumbers were blend and plain looking. Local of seasoning and choice of cucumbers used was low quality, so the cucumbers was not very crunchy, instead it was more chewy. I can definitely make better pickled cucumbers at home. I had a sip of the salted plum tea, it was not my cup of tea at all, it tasted more like an herbal tea to me instead of what I expected to be"salted plum tea", and it wasn't salty at all. Server was very nice, exchanged a regular milk tea for me. The side dish of cucumbers wasn't the size I expected either. It came in a small sauce bowl. Fortunately, the tofu with thousand year eggs over pork floss was decent. As for the main dish, I had beef shank and tenders with fine noodles, I'm not sure if their noodles are hand made or not...it didn't taste like other hand made noodles I had elsewhere. However, it was decent texture wise, the broth was flavorful, mildly spicy but very tolerable, portion wasn't that big. Maybe I have huge appetite! After consuming the entire meal, which included the side, noodle soup and a 16 oz milk tea, I would normally have to carry myself and my belly out the door, but I didn't feel that way. After the meal, my mouth was extremely dry and thirsty all today long. Most often, that is how I feel after consuming a good amount of MSG. In addition, I didn't expect my beef shank to be cut in strips. It normally comes in round slices like it was pictured on their menu. Over all dining experience was okay, Decorations modern. While I do like the customization (you have the option of choosing the noodle type), the quality of the dish is subpar resulting in severely overpriced bowls of noodles for what you get. There's also very few vegetarian friendly options. My group all decided to get handmade noodles. No complaints with the noodles itself, but more so how it all came together in a dish. I chose to get the tomato sauce dry noodles ($14) with the drink/side dish combo for $8 more. My dish was highly recommended by the server, but honestly, it was mediocre. I also thought it was weird that the tomato it came with was ice-cold. I had also inquired if the side dish could be made vegetarian, but was told it was already pre-made and had pork floss on it. I was planning on just ordering the noodles, but staff kept pushing the combo. She gave me an option which sounded like it was the sauce that had meat in it, so I chose to take it. Sadly, it turned out that the dish still had pork floss on it, so I just gave it to the meateaters at the table. I also don't understand how hard it would be to omit the pork floss. The dish is literally tofu with preserved eggs sprinkled with pork floss. There's literally no cooking involved. Sister got the braised pork rice ($8) and while this was surprisingly priced at a reasonable rate, she said her dish lacked any flavor. She took a few bites and decided to pack it up so she could spruce it up at home herself. My boyfriend ordered the beef shank noodle soup ($17) and said the meat was quite tough when it should have been tender. My parents got the vegetable chow mein ($13) and beef shank and tendon noodle soup ($18). They seemed to enjoy their meal, but are also the type of people who won't complain much and are happy to just be fed. While we should all aspire to be like them, that mindset won't fly in this economy (inflation + tiplation?!). read more

Duan Chun Zhen is a chain that is apparently well known in Taiwan, so I was excited to try it. I arrived a bit after 11:30, and the tables were mostly empty since they had just opened. However, I notice the restaurant filled up quickly. I got their braised beef shank noodles with thin noodles, and a braised beef noodles (3 treasure) with housemade noodles. They let you choose your noodle type, but thin noodles are the way to go. The housemade noodles are very thick and taste al dente, but actually almost to the point of being undercooked. The thin noodles were clumpy, and the broth is actually quite spicy (I say this as someone who doesn't tolerate spice well). I was expecting the broth to have a beefy flavor, but all I tasted was spice. There was no beef flavor at all, and I was also very thirsty after the meal, which tells me that the soup is overly oily and seasoned. For the "3 treasures" noodles they literally just give you 3 small slices of meat of different cuts, and both of my orders had very small portions for the price I paid (almost $20 per bowl). Overall I felt that this place is way overrated and overpriced for the quality. There's plenty of better Taiwanese food elsewhere if you travel just a bit down south, and I'm not sure that I will be coming back. read more

This parking lot is busy! And with the addition of all the new eateries, good luck finding parking. We order the Chili Oil Wonton and the Braised Beef Noodle Soup with Hand Pulled Noodles. The food came out pretty quick. The Chili Oil Wonton was pretty basic. Similar to what you would get at any other chinese restaurant. I did like how they fried the peanuts, but if you're allergic, I would definitely let them know as I think they use a lot of peanuts in their dishes. The Braised Beef Soup Noodle was pretty good. The broth was flavorful and aromatic, the beef was moist and tender, and the noodles were hefty. My chopstick game needed some work as the hand pulled noodles were on the thicker, heavier side. They also have a wide variety of dumplings, dry noodles, and fried rice. We really like the pork chop fried rice. The pork chop fried rice In my opinion it's almost as good as Ding Tai Fung...without the 50% markup! The portions are quite generous. The service can be lacking at times as the place gets quite busy (so there can be a wait). Parking can be a bit tricky as there are other restaurants in the same plaza.
