I'm basing this review on two visits, a week apart, both indoor dining experiences. The food: I tried the ribs, pulled pork, collard greens, fries, and sweet tea. Very enjoyable. Attractively presented. The service: They take your order at the counter and then bring it out to you. On our second visit, the food was prepared and sat in the counter awhile, until the counter worker finished up her texting. The area around the self-serve drinks was pretty messy, and the large garbage can sitting out in the restaurant was filled to overflowing. Parking is easy. The place is kind of hidden, a block off of US41, easy to miss. Use your GPS to get there. We also bought two pounds of pulled pork to go and made several meals at home off of that. My daughter picked up 3 meals tonight (Pulled pork and 1/2 rack of ribs with cole slaw, 2 kinds of macaroni and hushpuppies) that I think was the best BBQ I have ever had in my 72 years. First time here today. The service was very good. What was unacceptable was the 1/4 chicken was raw/bloody. On the other hand the baby back ribs were very good as well as the collard greens. Good quality BBQ. One of my favorites in the states thats not a roadside joint. They have more space with the expansion and they cater.

Large portions - tried piggy sandwich and beef sandwich, sides of fries & mac bites and extra side of cornbread. Picked up on time- food was lukewarm and not fresh - seemed to have been reheated more than once. Mac bites were unremarkable and cornbread was wet-not appetizing. $42 + tip for two meals/no drinks and it was mediocre. read more

Pretty good BBQ. The place was clean and welcoming. I really enjoyed the jalapeño & cheese sausage. I also tried the 1/2 chicken, it was okay a little on the small size and lacked a bit of that smoke flavor that I personally enjoy. Looking for Coo-pens on a typical Thursday night in SWFL, my wife and I having not had good BBQ since our last fight in Sylvia, North Carolina, where I drank to much and took an overdose of Seroquel, threatening to sleep in the woods rather than spend another minute with someone from Connecticut, decided on Dubz. Here we go... Most BBQ IS SHIT. Are you listening Wally's? The good places? You have to drive or travel to...Here in North Port Charlotte, every business caters to those with money, and in this case, it's people. Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Illinois, and the occasional Maryland fucker who can't make his/her mind on which coast to live on. None of these people know what BBQ is, let alone, GOOD BBQ. Have you ever tried to cook BBQ? Here's a quick lesson...Ribs take 8-10 hours, brisket, 12 plus hours...it's hard, it's an art form, a thing of beauty. It takes time, and good BBQ IS LIKE THE MISSISSIPPI...slow and low folks, over a pit fire, or contained in a smoker. Dubz tries, they really do, they really really do, but it's not their fault! There was no rub on the meat, and my meat had sauce on it when served?! If you cook something for 8-12 hours, only to put sauce on it, you might as well tell yourself, "well, so much for the effort, let's pour a jar of store bought gravy on that turkey I just roasted for the people I love, but don't like very well. What does Dubz have that's good? ALL THEIR SIDES! Amazing! And that banana pudding? Wow! It's not as good as Leroy's, but good, and cheaper. The staff are stellar, very kind, and friendly. Great prices, but mediocre BBQ. Again, not their fault. I came here 17 years ago, and simply forgot what good food is... We have to travel for it. I should have known better. Made my order and was told I could get change only if I would take nickels. Got a brisket sandwich and a rib/brisket platter...."moist brisket" was dry and crumbly. Really couldn't tell the difference between the corn/ribs/brisket/mac and cheese as it was all bland and appeared that its been sitting awhile. I dont do sauce so maybe I screwed up by passing on any flavor it mightve had. At their prices Id expect they take the 5 sec to remove the membrane on the ribs, or even have a smoke flavor I expect BBQ to have read more

We came in on a recommendation from Linksters Tap 2 doors down. We had baby backs and ribs. Delicious! Some of the best bbq I've eaten. The young lady that took our order was knowledgeable courteous and had sense of humor. We will be back again very soon. We've only got a couple more weeks to enjoy and then back north. Great pulled pork, brisket, and chicken wings. The wings particularly were impressive. Smoked (but not overly smoked and dry) and then flash fried so they had a bit of crisp to them. The mango jalapeno BBQ sauce is great and I highly recommend a side of it if that flavor sounds even a little interesting to you. Another recommendation are the hush puppies. I don't even usually LIKE hush puppies, but these are so great. They aren't those dry boring hunks of dough that you'd get at chain places, these have a crisp outside and moist inside with chunks of corn and veggies in them. Seriously, try them. Delicious! Fall-off-the-bone tender ribs with perfect sauces. We go here often. Never disappoints.

This is the kind of bbq I grew up knowing. My father was a pit master long before any competition was available. We tried every meat on the menu. The WINGS - scrumpcious; Smokey and moist. The PULLED PORK - also VERY good. Smoked nicely and good flavor. There were some strands of the pork that were a little longer than I am used to, but excellent hickory flavor throughout AND NICE AND MOIST. The BABY BACK RIBS- the prize of all the meats we sampled. Outstanding! The 1/2 CHICKEN - my wife fell in love with the chicken. She first ate the dark meat of the half we got; a day later she ate the white meat which is very difficult to keep from getting dry and almost crispy. Tears started to form- BUT, she exclaimed "this white half is the best she'd ever had!"as she offered me a small taste. The sides were good. Generally, however, they played as "extras" to the smoked meat. Very good but not the things that stood out about DUBZ BARBQ. WE WILL DEFINITELY RETURN. I WONDER IF THEY HAVE CONSIDERED SMOKING TURKEY AND HAM FOR THE THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS????? If planning and preparing a meal for a number of guests, it would make the person's effort to prepare the food (the personal chef's load) much simpler just prepping a few sides and letting DUBZ do the rest. read more

Had a wonderful dinner tonight at Dubz! Our first time there. Started with an appetizer of hush puppies which were 6-7 large hush puppies with corn. Really crispy and good. I had the special BBQ Philly with pulled pork, onions and bell peppers. Really good and a large portion of, I ate 1/2. My better half had the piggy sandwich which is pulled pork and jalapeño cheddar sausage. He ate it all. Service was great and place was cleaned and well organized. Sorry no pics, so good! read more

It use to be our favorite place for bbq, they shut down to expand and we started going somewhere else. When they opened up we went back, the food was not good. I knew I was in trouble when I walked in the door and the lady behind the counter is pouring "Cattleman's" BBQ sauce into containers. If you know anything about BBQ this should be a major red flag. It was for me, however, I was there and didn't have time to find another place so I got the pork sandwich with okra. Simple right...wrong. Pork was dry and flavorless and my choices of "Cattleman's " provided didn't help much. The okra was edible therefore 2 stars. If you like good BBQ eat somewhere else. I ate here with a friend on a Sunday for lunch. We thought it was going to have normal / larger restaurant seating but there's just a single wall of tables - not much seating. We got the last available table at the end of the row. They said they have plans to expand but I don't know when that is expected to happen. If you plan to dine out, make a plan B to take your food "to go" to eat at home- in case there are no tables. The smoked meats were delicious, especially the moist/fatty brisket my friend ordered, and the pulled pork which I ordered. We dove right in without thinking to take photos! My bad! Decent amount of meat on the sandwiches. There are a variety of bbq sauces on the table, none of which are "hot enough" if you really like spicy bbq, but there are a couple spicy options. The jala-mango is more sweet jelly style than bbq, but the good thing is that you can mix different sauces on bites of meat until you get the blend that you like, then squirt those on your whole sandwich. Original, spicy, mustard, sweet & jala-mango I think are all the sauces. The Cole slaw was creamy & sweet but not excessive sugar, and the regular portion was generous. The hush puppies -which I never order because I've always thought they are boring- my friend gave me one of hers and I was pleasantly surprised by it. Crispy outside but soft, tender bread-like inside with bits of sweet corn and what looked like possibly very fine shred small amount of zucchini. So think corn-zucchini bread balls. They were very tasty! I brought a rack of ribs home and they were tender, will fall off the bone into your mouth without resistance when you bite. They smelled a bit like burnt sugar so I'm guessing there's likely a dry rub with sugar in it & when they toss on the grill after coming out of the smoker, the dry rub gets charred a bit and it's just a fact that sugar burns fast. It didn't taste burnt though- I just have very keen senses of taste and smell. I squirted some of their spicy bbq on it. Brought home and had 1/3 for dinner with added sweet baby rays bbq sauce since that's my favorite. Ultimately though- without saturating the ribs with sauce, they just had a very plain, unseasoned rib-meat flavor rather than any unique flavor from a marinade or rub. I think for ribs to be something worth raving about, they need that extra step to get flavor into the meat. I hope I'm making some sense there. This is a personal preference and I'm sure this place sells a lot of ribs with no problem. I would return here but it would be for the brisket or pulled pork. And I would like to try the smoked wings next visit as well. Oh, and one annoying thing to both myself and my friend - the amount of smoke odor that fills the air every time the smoker is opened - was pretty overpowering. Your clothing will smell smokey by the time you leave if you dine in. I hope they have plans to install a better ventilation system and move the smoker to a more enclosed kitchen, upon expansion. Support your local businesses! And check your credit cards for bonuses for dining out local. I signed up for my cc to be enrolled in their dining program for extra flight miles (AA) and first dine out within a month at participating local restaurant followed by a review they emailed to me, and I received 1000 bonus miles plus 3x the miles/points for what I ordered. I'm here too tell you that this place has the best BBQ that I have ever tasted. The meat is dry tuned so you can add their 7 kinds of bbq sauce of your choice. The baby back ribs falls off the bones and the they have spare ribs. Pulled chicken and pork on their sandwiches are pilled high with enough meat to make two sandwiches,smoked homemade hamburgers with two Big slices of also smoked bacon that can be folded in half is enough to cover the hamburger. Lots of other type of meats but som great western beans wit lots of meat and corn bread. I've go 2times and have taken my two best friends which agree that it worth the quick drive. As you see if you like BBQ this is far the best black in the lower Florida and I came from the bbq area of the USA Kansas City where they claim to have invented it. read more
