Pretty good for a duchess. The food came out hot, fresh, and relatively quickly for being a duchess! The only reason I deducted a star was because the person at the register seemed a bit annoyed with me when I asked her a few questions but, other than that everything was pretty good. Because the food is fresh at duchess, it always takes a while for the food to be made, especially during a lunch or dinner rush. This particular location was empty during the lunch rush tho. $6.29 for a bacon egg & cheese meal that has one sorry looking egg on the roll? I even sent a search party out looking for the bacon, too. I had to get back in line to order another $6 sandwich because of being left unsatisfied *and* hungry. Don't take the kids here after soccer practice because you'll probably have to order two sandwiches per person just so lunch sticks to your ribs (and theirs). Sheesh. At least they are getting better about not overloading you with french fries. I am not from CT. I always see Duchess restaurants and billboards. I finally decided to try it and was definitely impressed. I got the big D burger (lol). It was basically a Whopper but better in every way. Tastier, juicier beef, softer bread, better pickles... I was still hungry so I ordered the buffalo bites - they really surprised me! It was whole white meat. Not the weird ground meat in conventional fast food nuggets. And it was JUICY! Finally I finished with fried Oreos. It's hard to go wrong with fried Oreos. The only down side from my first experience at Duchess was the wait. It was a bit slower than, say, McDonalds but I got the impression they are actually COOKING the food. Not just heating it up. Next time I want fast food I'm opting for Duchess instead of McDonalds. read more

Went tonight - won't be back. Cold fries, slow service, hot dog was barely cooked - just warm, very greasy. Cheese wasn't even melted on the Philly steak sandwich. This is the only Duchess location I have eaten at a few times. So maybe it's just this location. IT'S SLOW! The drive-through could take up to 25 minutes if they are mildly busy. After eating inside to get a better look at operations it seems like there is a complete lack of process and people randomly doing tasks. A complete lack of leadership with fast food management experience. With that said the food is ok. It's nice to change it up from Mcdonald's when you are in a rush... now if you're in a rush Duchess isn't the place to go. They seem to have a set dinner menu that comes on a real plate and with sides. I think if they were smart they would ditch this menu and just do burgers and dogs FASTER! I really really wanted to like this place But, everything was wrong. -The male who took the drive through order was not only not courteous but rude. We ordered a meal and asked for curley fries (extra money) and a sandwich. -The girl at the window wasn't rude but there was no thank you or would you like any condiments, nothing. -After we pulled out, and got on tbe road we realized they gave us regular fries. -We took the entire bag back to the manager who handed us the curley fries (no apologies) and put the regular fries back on the line. I would just like to start off by saying perhaps the woman at the window was having a bad night. Keeping that in mind, I said thank you at least three times as she handed me my items, never got a you're welcome, or even an acknowledgment that I had spoken. I will be buried with a Big D Cheeseburger with lettuce, mayo and bacon bits, not strips. I have so much history with this place that I don't know where to start. After every little league game, Sunday school (aka Molestation Survival Class), day trip, etc, my family would make a stop at the Monroe Duchess where I would rock Operation Wolf while the fam waited for our food number to be called. It was my first job on the books. I rose from register, to fries to manning the drive thru. It is where I bought my first bag of weed, then mushrooms. I even lost my virginity during one of my days off on sunny April afternoon. I worked there for two years, and not once, did my exposure to the food change my opinion of it. If you had the opportunity to order from the Monroe Duchess in-between the summer of 92' to the fall of 94', we may have crossed paths. I had bleached blonde hair (pre-eminem), some acne on my cheek and my maroon hat turned to the side. I went for the don't fuck with me cuz I may spit in your food look. Of course I believed that to be reprehensible, but by working at an establishment like this, you are already primed for ridicule, and this was my best defense. The food here is great. The menu expands faster than the universe, and while I'm stuck on my Big D, and Hot Dog combo, my friends and family explore a little more frequently. Not so much as review as a first impression seeing as I have only sampled a small portion of the menu. Was in town for a work and stopped for a quick bite. While this was an 'order at the counter' type of establishment, there still was a small town diner feel as the food comes out on plates and daily specials were listed. I went for a chicken combo meal. The fries were pretty good but definitely the frozen type. The fries were crisp and hot. The crispy chicken sandwich was just okay. A bit on the dry side and really needed condiments to keep the sandwich palatable. I regret not going for a dog or a burger. One cool item of note... they have Coca-Cola Free Style machine that lets you select from a menu of hundreds of fountain sodas from a touch screen. I wanted to give this place a decent review, especially given the racists on here complaining about workers' English proficiency. The good: decent fries, fresh bread and veggies on my sandwich, whole wheat bread, soda machine with hundreds of options. Duchess of Monroe. An absolute classic and staple of Connecticut. I don't write food reviews but this will be my first because of the disgraceful comments posted about this establishment. I am so sad to see that the reviews of Duchess are so low. From top to bottom, Duchess has one of the most well rounded fast food menus. From the breakfast sandwiches, to the burgers, and of course the hotdogs Duchess is a top tier fast food restaurant. When I first began going to Duchess, I would order the chili cheese dogs. The chili has to be one of the best fast food chili's I've ever tasted. I've tried great chili, for example the chili from another CT staple, Merrit Canteen and I've tried bad chili. I once tried "famous" skyline chili which honestly had no flavor. Duchess on the other hand has chili that is sweet with a small kick of spice at the end. I will say the hotdog they use has changed, the dog used to have a snap when you bit it and that definitely is no longer there. Still the chili dog is very good and it stands up with some of the best dogs I've had. The breakfast sandwich is also amazing. They do kinda skimp out on the meat but for the price, it is reasonable to ask for double meat. Also they have Portuguese rolls that you can ask for which take the sandwich up another notch. Then you ask for mayo on the sandwich and you have one of the best FASTFOOD breakfast sandwiches. The burgers also are very solid. The Big D sandwich is amazing. The patty is real beef, and they have the perfect balance of condiments. The crispy chicken sandwich is also very good and they put the perfect amount of mayo and lettuce. On top of all this, Duchess is very reasonably priced and they always have deals which make it feel more fair. I will standby duchess for as long as they keep their food the same consistency. I know some people complain about the workers but honestly I've never had a bad experience with them. I have seen the guy who works the register for years now and he has been so kind. read more

Wife and I went to the Duchess in Monroe, 1/8/22 for a dinner of 'fish and chips' - ordered it for dine in, ticket 433 which said 'DINE.' We brought Poland Springs to drink with the dinner. Get our table and wait for our dinners, finally call our number. Go up to pick up what I thought would be 2 trays with the dinners on plates, but much to my surprise I find our dinners in a 'brown bag' and the dinners in stryrofoam containers. What, this is not what I ordered and called one of the people behind the counter over, while she was all apologetic she wasn't the problem, the problem was in the kitchen where the meals were prepared. Asked for a manager, but surprisingly none was available. Finally, they gave us plates, we took everything back to our table, dumped the contents of the stryrofoam containers onto the plates and ate the meal. For the lousy service I'm giving the Duchness 1 star and that's because I found a parking spot. To the owners, you need the workers to know the difference between 'dine in' and 'take out.' read more

I have not eaten at Duchess in 14 years, as the last time I did (not at this location), I got violent food poisoning (again, not at this location). So, while I was skeptical to visit for lunch yesterday, I did, and was mostly pleased. The burger and fries were pleasant, aside from the bun which crumbled all over me and the car, and the tea was nice and sweet. I also ate one chicken nugget, with which I was not impressed. One suggestion I would make (in addition to changing the buns); if someone orders chicken nuggets, most places will ask what kind of sauce you'd like. They did not, and as such I had to go inside to request sauce. Aside from this small item, I was extremely impressed by the extensive menu options offered; unparalleled by any other fast food place I've visited anywhere. Variety is always nice. It doesn't help that this Duchess is the only fast food restaurant around for miles open after 9pm on a Sunday. I'm just getting off of work at that point and I'm starving. I usually go for whatever the specials are except for the burger special. There are things I like about Duchess and things I don't. Maybe I should keep a running list. First, if it's not on special, it's a little pricey for fast food, but they do make it fresh which not many other fast food joints do. You just gotta love the places where there is a time stamped on your food which is about five minutes from now. Anyway, although I don't like the fries at Duchess, a lot of people do or they would have changed them. They are always hot. I do prefer the onion rings and once again, they are always hot. My absolute two favorite items at Duchess are the crispy chicken sandwich and the hot dog with the works. I love the fact that the soda machine has over 100 flavors, but I'll just stick with my caffiene free diet coke with lime. The service takes a while sometimes. I've been three cars back in the drive through and at that point you are looking between 9-11 minutes of a wait. If I see five cars in the drive through and I'm really in Duchess panic mode, like I need the food now, I will drive over to the Milford Duchess off of exit 40. (it's on my way home anyway) If the food was a little less expensive and the wait in the drive through wasn't so long I would give this place a four. read more
