Duck Creek Park - Oops broken horseshoe - Parks Near Me - Las Vegas, Nevada

Established in 2002, Duck Creek Park is a 15-acre Clark County-managed park in the Paradise area. Contrary to its name, it is a distance from Duck Creek Wash, which is a few blocks north on Pollock Drive. And on my last trip here, I saw several pigeons with black birds instead of ducks.    From my five Yelp check-ins here, I clearly understand that Duck Creek Park is the sister park of Desert Bloom Park. My pedometer stated that walking from its northwest basketball courts to the southwest Desert Bloom basketball courts, was a 0.44 mile walk by ways of Pollock Drive and Wigwam Avenue. The very close proximity of the two parks causes each one to be a regional and local destination. All five of my visits here,  followed a visit to Desert Bloom Park. On a couple of my visits, I extended the walk by combining it with both Desert Bloom Park, the I-215 East Beltway Trail, and local streets. This created a couple hours long suburban hiking adventures.     Although Duck Creek and Desert Bloom are sister parks, I have noticed some distinctions that differentiate the two. Duck Creek is less busy and more secluded than Desert Bloom. Where Desert Bloom is surrounded by roads on three sides including the busy Maryland Parkway; Duck Creek is surrounded on three sides by backyards. Where most of the open space at Desert Bloom is taken up by baseball diamonds, green grass covers the majority of the open space at Duck Creek.    On the lion's share of my visits here, I started out on the walking trail from the southwest corner of the park, near the Horseshoe and boccee courts, where I walked counterclockwise and ultimately to the same spot. According to my pedometer app, it is a 0.58 mile walk along the perimeter dual walking trail, which features a paved and parallel unpaved trail. This is a stressless flat walk on a slightly weaving dual-trail that travels through a very well maintained park. The golf course green grass, palm trees, pine trees, yucca, and xeroscaping appear healthy and attractive. The paved and unpaved trail are often separated by grass and desert that is interspersed with foliage. Throughout the dual-trail there are benches and picnic areas. The dual-trail is horseshoe shaped. The western segment of what I call the perimeter trail is either the parking lot sidewalk parallel to Pollock Drive or the Pollock Drive sidewalk. The dual-trail carries me to my favorite part of the park, which is the east periphery at the back. This is where a dual-fenced in area buffers the neighboring backyards. From here, looking west standing up or sitting on a shaded picnic table bench, I take in a carpet of green grass leading towards a grove of trees with the distant Red Rock escarpment above. Last time there were several pigeons lounging on the open grass space. This is the quieter side of Duck Creek Park.    The busier side of the park is the western preiphery near the ample parking lot and Pollock Drive. This is where most of the amenities are. Here you will find the restrooms, tennis courts, horseshoe and boccee courts, splash pad, playground, skate park, and large picnic area. In similar fashion to the grass and vegetation, the park equipment is well-maintained. I noticed  zero graffiti or vandalism. Even, the skate park, which attracts teenagers, was free of vandalism. When I complete my perimeter walk, I will continue my walk here. To my eyes, the most picture-worthy spot is the splash pad adorned with towering palm trees and picturesque field of grass in back of it spreading to the surrounding suburbia. I consider the amenities area, the heart of Duck Creek Park. From here I walk along the blood vessels that are the inner paved trails that pass through the open grass landscape to the back of park before making a u-curve and head back to the heart of the park. I will either exit from the northwest or southwest corner onto Pollock Drive.     On all five Yelp check-ins here, I felt safe. Even by the skate park. Duck Creek Park has been active with people playing tennis, picnicking, walking their furbabies, lounging on the grass, bonding with their children at the playground, or doing what I was doing: walking with some breaks. However, I seemed to be the only one taking pictures.    In the future there is a high liklihood that I will return to Duck Creek Park. Most likely it will take place following a walk in its sister park: Desert Bloom Park. read more

Time to enjoy the outdoors again and breath in some fresh air!! The weather is finally cooling down. :-) Nicely landscaped, dirt-path, walking trail along the perimeter of the park. My map app clocked it at a half mile around. Large grassy area in the back. Skate park. Water feature for kids. Covered gazebos. Tennis courts. Public restrooms. Just missing an enclosed dog park. However, it is dog friendly as far as paved walkways and complimentary poopie bags to grab along the way. Many dogs are gettin in their exercise unleashed, so be aware. My dog would looooove to run freely in this lush grassy area!! I just don't know if I could trust her to stay in one area yet. I imagine she would just want to freely explore this cute little neighborhood park. One small tree in the back has been dedicated to a fur baby named "Gucci". Rest in happiness, Gucci!! read more

This used to be a great park. But the last few years they have just let everything die. What is left of the grass is full of stickers. So much so that some of our friends stopped coming. It is such a hassle to pick off all of the stickers when you get home. Where there isn't grass it is dirt or mud when they water. And all of the new trees that people paid to have planted with a memorial plaque have all died. Trash on the sides of the park. They even have two areas in the back where they dumped fill materials. We tried calling the parks dept to no avail. Such a shame. We never see the groundskeepers any more they just drive through the parking lot and leave. On a side note, there are a lot of hook-ups in the parking lot. A lot! Even just saw a used condom in the lot. And since they rarely clean up it will probably be there for a long time. read more

Overall, Duck Creek Park is decent. It's located in a neighborhood off of Pebble and isn't hard to find... Not to be confused with Desert Bloom Park though! The two are located just around the corner from each other. My family and I came to Duck Creek Park to celebrate Easter with a bunch of friends last Sunday and enjoyed our time spent here. The park is big and there is lots of space. There is also a decent amount of parking, so that shouldn't be a problem. Duck Creek Park has the usual cabana, grass field, picnic tables, and playground. According to previous reviews, there is also a water park area for the kids, but that wasn't operating when I went, or maybe I just missed it. There are also a few tennis courts if you're interested in practicing your best Serena and Venus moves. Other than that, there isn't much to say about this place. I do however appreciate the fact that there are a lot of trash cans throughout the park! Cleaning up is easy when you don't have to bring your trash elsewhere to throw away. read more

Well because its 6 am and I can't sleep and haven't slept, I might as well write a review maybe I might fall a sleep while writing it. This is another small park that has a lot going on. They have a skate area with ramps, anyone feel like getting hurt today. The have some water things for the kids. They have some well maintained horseshoe pit and bocce court. A big grassy area which they'll often use for the kids sports and sidewalk that loops around the entire park. They have half court basketball courts and a tennis court which are lighted but not in the greatest conditions. They have a few covered structures and a clean restroom. This is a good alternate if Desert Bloom park is busy plus its right around the corner and not always as busy. Nope didn't fall asleep I might as well stay up. read more

This is a great family park but EVERYONE thinks it's ok to have their dogs off leash ! I have had both my dogs attacked multiple times at this park. People will have no control off their dogs off leash just yelling "it's ok my dogs friendly " no care for the safety of children or other leashes dogs, they are so entitled. They don't care about anyone but themselves. Some dogs are fearful , reactive , in training, don't like strange dogs but these people don't care bc their "dog is friendly " and completely uncontrolled. One woman in a red suv shows up with her brown dog everyday off leash and it runs up the every dog hackles up. I'm tired of trying to fight off unwanted loose dogs away from my dogs in training and young children. I will b calling animal control. This is not a dog park. read more

Nice little park, A great stop for pokemon goers!!! 9 gyms in a really easy loop makes it very convenient for those who dont like walking long and a quick fuel up on your pokeballs. LoL The bathrooms could use maintenance, its open till midnight so im sure alot goes on throughout the day there. Decent basketball court and bike/skate area. Nice/easy walking paths and a clean playground. There is a decent amount of people there at night which makes it feel comfortable to be there at a late hour. . . . because of pokemon hunting, its sooo obvious. read more

this is a smaller park around some homes but it offers a lot. I was here for a birthday party and had my dog with me so I walked her on a trail that goes around the park. The trail was clean and easy for all ages. They have poop bags and trash cans along the way so you can clean up after your pet. The bathrooms were specious and clean. Parts of the playground were closed however some slides were open. There is a water feature where water shoots up from the ground which is a must in parks here in Vegas. There is a skate boarding area and tennis courts. Parking lot is spacious enough for the size of the park. read more

This is a pretty decent park. It has a water area for the kids, a few bbq grills, a skate area as well as a playground. We went here to bbq and it was fun. Only thing is its only like 2 grills. One in the very front and one in the way back. So if u want to be by the water area try to arrive early and save a spot or else you'll be stuck in the back like i was. Which wasnt so bad but i like to keep a closer eye on my kids. It was clean no vandalism. There was one bum there that was a little creepy, talking to himself and what not. Nice place to walk in the evening when the sun goes down. Overall really nice! read more

I have been going to this park now for about a yr and a half and just love it. Its so close to my house. We have many playdates here with my mommy group vegasmommies.com. I even had my Ryders 1yr Bday party here. There are always tables available for things like that. There is a small skatepark, water park and a great little playground area. There is also a nice paved trail that goes through the park. The park is very well maintained and the bathrooms are clean. read more

This park is great for several different reasons. - the "clean" water park area. - the bike/ skate park. - large grass fields. - very well maintained playground. There really isn't anything negative I can say about this park. Even the bathrooms are clean. Thats a rare achievement in this valley. With the addition of the over head covers las Vegas parks have become a bit more tolerable in this ridiculous summer heat. read more

My daughter (2) loves to play in this park. She's a runner so I'm especially thankful that the kid's area is completely enclosed behind a childproof gate. She takes her electric ATV and rides it across the big grass field. There's also a splash pad for warmer weather. read more

This park has a lot of nice features. There are 2 playgrounds with the shade on top and fence around it. There is a sitting area with a roof shed in the middle however it's not quite work well because the sun is always on the other end so bring your chair so you can just sit underneath the tree. There's a small splash pad in the middle. The tennis court and a skate park are on the other side. I did not check it out though. I came here to celebrate my nephews 3rd birthday. The park is nestled in a neighborhood of houses. Since the park is dog friendly, I brought my dog, Brownie along for the party. I walked her on a trail that went around the park as well took her over to the large grassy area the park has to interact with the other dogs there. The grassy area isn't fenced in, so I was surprised at how many pet owners had their dogs off leashes, tsk tsk. The bathroom is large and has entry on either side of the building for males and females. They have an area where the kiddos can get wet, but unfortunately the day we were there the wind was blowing and it was cold, so most of the kids played at the playground. The playground is nice even though the swings were roped off for repair and I am a girl who loves to swing so that was a bummer! The park was clean and the area that was reserved for the party was spacious enough with a shade structure and the nearby bathrooms, BBQ grill and trash cans were convenient. They also have a small skate park too, but I didn't make it over to check it out fully. The water fountains were clean and lights came on in the park after a certain hour and lit everything up fine. All in all a decent neighborhood park. read more

Park itself is ok, could use a little upkeep. The field and walking trail is great, except for people letting their DOGS run loose all over. For some reason the "leash law" doesn't apply to visitors here. Hard to have fun when you're dodging dog feces and/or dogs. read more

There are two nice tennis courts. While other places get full quickly, the courts here are rarely filled. The bike trails and skate park draws in some teenagers, but it is hassle free and a good place to bring little ones. The amenities are few compared to bigger parks, but it is relaxing due to the lack of crowds. read more

Has seen better days. The slide to the big gym is broken but is closed of at the top so you can slide down. Unfortunally its broken at the bottom so little hands can still reach and hurt themselves. They do have new covers that cover the entire play area that is nice but all the foam under the gyms are either missing spots or cracked. It is also fenced in and would be a great feature if the locking devices worked. read more

We visited for the skate park but at 100+ degrees the concrete bowl was just way too hot. A shade structure would make this a wonderful destination for younger skaters. read more
