We ended up trying the Bacon in the Sun, French Toast, PB&J, Strawberry Confetti (because my daughter loves herself a pink donut ), and of course, you can never go wrong with a good old-fashioned glazed donut. Let me tell you, these donuts were a lovely, fresh treat! Soft, flavorful, and made to order. Each one had its own unique twist, and it was so much fun trying all the different flavors. The Bacon in the Sun was the perfect mix of sweet and savory, while the French Toast tasted just like breakfast in donut form. Stopped in on a cool, rainy day because we were looking for coffee and found Duck Donuts as the best option around. And of course, when in a donut place, buy a donut. First, a shout out to the young woman who was the manager and only person working out front (and maybe in the whole store). She was friendly, helpful, and engaging, and, she recommended a few donuts (I just don't eat them very often. My son chose the cookies n cream and I went with the chocolate caramel peanut donut. Warm, sweet, tasty, close to melt-in-your-mouth, and did I say sweet?! The coffee was solid so it "paired" well with the donuts, and, I wouldn't hesitate to stop here for just the coffee if I am in the area again. But if you do stop, get the donuts! FYI-My observation of the area is that it's a coffee desert unless you're fond of that worldwide Seattle based coffee company. read more

Ok, so I've been to Duck Donuts long time ago in Outerbank, NC. However, I don't remember it being THIS fancy and this nice. I don't remember the one in NC being made to order, fresh hot donuts type of place. Anyway, ever since I found Duck Donuts is super close to where I live now, I've been here five times. I ordered different donuts but always come back to get the blueberry pancake. That one was absolutely my favorite. I am usually a Oreo chocolate type of gal, but for some reasons they're a little too sweet for me. I am obsessed with Blueberry pancake donut though, it is the BEST! Wow! Talk about a tasty donut! Duck Donuts is a super cute donut place that has a pretty neat concept I hadn't seen before. Basically they let you pick the icing and the toppings and you build your own. They have options if you don't know what to order, like most popular, spring favorites, even donuts to go with the Avengers movie that came out the other day. We arrived early Friday morning and ordered a half dozen, including the maple bacon my sister couldn't stop talking about. Donuts are a cake donut type and fried to order. I'm no stranger to donuts and I'm thrilled that they're the foodie trend at the moment. Sorry, cupcakes -- I love you, too. I struggled with my decision to appoint Duck Donuts with a 4 star rating or a 3 star rating more than someone should when they have so many things to do, but I take my donuts seriously. I've tried most of the shops in town but hadn't made my way to Duck Donuts yet and I know it had loads of hype when they were opening. I am not big fan of the set up. All the donuts are the same dough and you get to pick the icing, the toppings and the drizzle. So many options can be great but for indecisive people like myself it's just overwhelming. I decided to order a glazed and then asked the girl at the counter for a recommendation and I went with her suggestion of the maple bacon. All donuts are made to order so it took a few minutes and unfortunately seating inside is very limited so I kind loitered while waiting for almost ten minutes. The donuts were good but I prefer them more soft and flaky these are very much like cake donuts. Donuts are always made to order, so you know everything is fresh... and if your kiddos are anything like mine, they'll love being able to watch the employees make their treats. This is a super convenient location in Allentown right off a large shopping plaza. I went on a Sunday morning and they were busy but prompt in their service. I got a dozen assorted donuts and the staff was friendly and took care to make each donut to order. It's not worth the price, I ordered a breakfast sandwich and it was the greasy mess, donut undercooked, sausage and egg are from a frozen state into a microwave, one of the worst. A half dozen donuts ate almost $10.00 not worth it. I ordered a large coffee with cream and sugar, first sip tasted just like a greasy donut, not what I was expecting, you can taste the oil from the donut oil, so that tells me they wash everything in the same sink along with the donuts equipment, make a greasy oily transfer to the coffee equipment, not good, if I could give this place a quarter of a star I would do that. read more

I'm not sure what all the excitement is about with this place. I mean, it's not garbage, it's just ok. If you are a fan of piping hot, cake donuts then this place is for you. I was expecting it to be more like the Fractured Prune in OCMD, but I don't think they compare. In fact, I think I'd rather just eat (gasp) dunkin donuts then this place. They have a bunch of flavors to choose from or you can make your own. The place was clean and the people working there were friendly. They have free cold water which was nice. Prices were also reasonable for what you get but I think they are smaller than a traditional donut. I prefer just heading to a local place like Mary Ann's Donut Kitchen or the Emmaus bakery. Size wise the donuts are perfect for the toppings. The cake is a vanilla cake base and is appropriately flavored. The toppings...man they are good! I'm not a fan of maple flavorings, but their maple glaze isn't bad-especially paired with bacon. The chocolate really tastes chocolate-y, the key lime was pretty awesomely sweet/sour/creamy tasting, and the toppings I chose were good. They don't skimp on the toppings. Would I get one again? Yes. I would get ONE donut though. I couldn't handle more than one. Would I go out of my way to head over there for a donut? No, not for me. This was our first visit to Duck Donuts. My husband & I arrived around 2:30 on a weekday, and at least 25 people were there. We ordered Bacon in the Sun (maple icing, chopped bacon, salted caramel drizzle), Peanut Butter Paradise (peanut butter icing, chocolate drizzle) and two coffees. What was good: -The donuts. These are vanilla cake donuts, and the texture is spot on. The icing was thick and sweet. The toppings and drizzles were in perfect proportion. There isn't much that a warm donut won't fix. Middle of the road: -We waited approximately 10 minutes for our donuts. That's a bit long to wait at an off-peak time. Not terrible, but it could be quicker if their system is more efficient. -The coffee is self-serve. Not my favorite. The shop layout wasn't conducive to the self-serve coffee station. People were standing in front of it. It was quite cramped. (This is still middle of the road because who really cares if you must fill your own cup.) Also, the cream carafe was empty, but the staff quickly responded to fill it. What should change: -The coffee was meh. It wasn't super fresh. Granted, it was 2:30 in the afternoon, but I believe a donut shop should always have yummy, fresh coffee, even if they must make it in smaller batches during off-peak times. -When the wait is long and they have many orders for donuts by the dozens, they need more than 2-3 staff icing and topping donuts. That was the obvious bottleneck in the system. The folks at the ordering station and those making the donuts were waiting for the 2-3 ladies at the end of the assembly line. All in all, it was a fun experience, and the donuts were great! Overall, the donuts were 5 stars and the rest is 3. This is a new franchise, so with some tweaking, I'm confident they can consistently earn 4-5 stars. Will definitely visit again. read more

Seriously delicious donuts! Let's start with the warm Vanilla cake donut-it's the perfect size and it is moist, it comes out of the fryer warm and not greasy! The icing flavors are delicious and not too sweet. The choice of toppings is fun and the suggested combinations are fun! I had the key lime with graham cracker topping, my little one had strawberry frosting and sprinkles! I also brought home the vanilla frosted with cinnamon sugar. I warmed in the microwave for 10 seconds and it was just like I was back at their location! (Can it really be under 300 calories?)The customer service is fantastic, everyone was super friendly and although the orders are customized, service was fast. I can't wait to go return. read more

These are a bit pricey at $13 a dozen. I would have to say everything is very fresh and donuts served warm. They were kind of messy. My biggest gripe is that they were a cake-y donut and I prefer a lighter more airy donut such as Dunkin or Tim Hortons. However it was a fun experience and the kids enjoyed picking out their donuts. I've been to 3 other Duck Donuts, Virginia Beach, Reading, and King of Prussia, prior to this latest one in Allentown. And while the flavor here is as good as i remembered, there's some differences that caused me to lower my score for this one in particular. The donut sizing is definitely smaller here. There has consistently been gaps around all of the donuts in my half dozen box. Also, I've always loved the maple bacon, and still do, but the amount of bacon used is decidedly less than at the other three that I've been to. While these issues won't deter me from buying donuts, I felt they needed to be mentioned. read more
