Donuts themselves were great, but the service at the register was surprisingly rude. We had walked up to ask about a certain flavor, and the staff didn't even make eye contact and just flipped open a booklet and pointed at it. One of us has a nut allergy, so we asked about what kind of accommodations they gave, just to consider our options. The cashier rolled their eyes and called over another staff member, who was actually very helpful. Everyone else was fine, it's just that one interaction with that staff member really rubbed me the wrong way. It's not fair to give the stink eye to someone who just asked a very normal question, especially when it has to do with their health. I really appreciate the other employee who came up and explained in detail, that was very helpful. I hope things improve, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable coming back anytime soon. read more

My friends and I picked up some duck donuts for our friends on our buddies bachelor trip. As soon as we walked into the establishment the donuts smelled amazing and I knew that box would be done in less then an hour. I tried pieces of a few different donuts and every single one was amazing. The donuts are baked like real fine pastries and you can tell the difference between the real donuts like these and the fake ones you get at Wawa. Surprised by the quality of the donut. Cake donuts are usually not my fav, as I do prefer yeast. However, we were all surprised the the taste, being able to customize and coming hot off the conveyor belt! The service was okay, I could only imagine what it's like to work there. This location is just about always busy in the summer. You can only order online if you choose from pre chosen dozen options. If you order a dozen in store, you can only get a dozen price if you choose from their established selection, so in summary there's no discount for a custom dozen. They have a promo to sign up for a free donut with a purchase but it's not valid until the day after you sign up. It is nice the donuts are hot & made to order but overall Duck Donuts isn't my favorite. Although, I will say I prefer yeast donuts so I'm sure if you like cake ones better you'd give it an extra star. We arrived an hour before closing time and they still had a bunch of options, but they were out of peanuts. One of the best parts about this place is that they make their donuts fresh, so you'll leave with a warm box. These are all cake donuts and they seem to all have the same base flavor, just with a bunch of different icing flavors and toppings. I ordered a random dozen, and they were a hit! The customer service was great. There were 10 people actively working hard, helping each other out, checking guests out, making donuts, and bringing out completed orders. It was top-notch. I arrived at 9:00 AM, and 13 people (5 groups) were in line outside. I walked in at 9:07, and there were another dozen folks in line. At 9:16, I reached the front of the line, and they took my order. At 9:23, they brought out my latte. At 9:52, my order was ready. The wait was long, but it was due to it being exceptionally busy and 'made to order.' All employees were working, and there was no capacity to add more people. They were thorough, efficient, and managed lines as quickly as possible. Any reviews solely based on time are not fair, as they do not consider the nature of the business. It's going to take a long time. My experience was that the staff was great and working hard, so if they had issues with that in the past like other reviews mentioned, they have fixed this issue. My suggestion is that they do a better job managing the communication of wait times. Letting their customers know the average wait time while checking out, maybe having a text system like many restaurants have for seating, or having an outdoor monitor that shows order progress could all help manage that communication and minimize any negative impacts on wait time. read more

Worst experience I have ever had. We are from PA and have loved going to Duck Donuts every year when we visit Corolla, NC. We will never go back after our last visit. After waiting for 45 minutes we knocked on the door to see if they would be done soon I was told by JP that if I wanted cold, fast donuts I could go down the street to dunkin, and he shut the door and locked it. It was my first time! I got up early and ran to Duck Donuts (had to earn it). I got there about 10 minutes before opening and the line was down the plaza. I waited for about an hour, but it didn't feel that long. The people around me were nice to chat with and the process they have set up is second to none! Everyone was working very efficiently. The 8am line went quick. Tell them if you have a peanut allergy and they'll mark the receipt to "change gloves". Also, if you can order online, that's probably your best bet. We are vacationing and this is one of my favorite spots to go to. Although they are extremely busy which would be expected they are very effective! Donuts coming out by the second 3-4 decorators on at one time. Therefore we knew they would come fast we only had to wait about 15-20 mins which isn't bad considering the masses of people! The manager, Missy, was extremely sweet and professional, thanking us for the business.
