I'm sure my kids will enjoy these donuts, but it won't be for today's breakfast. We had a scheduled CURBSIDE order pickup scheduled for 10:30. I arrived at 10:15. It's 11:00 and nobody brought our food & drinks out. In the meantime, we fed the kids something else. I did go inside to see several employees behind the counter. No greetings no acknowledgement I even entered their establishment. I walked up to the counter to see our order with tickets clearly marked CURBSIDE with our make and model of our vehicle. I waited to see if anyone would acknowledge my presence. With no one even making eye contact with me, I picked up our order and left. Hopefully they'll take this as a coaching moment and will work to improve their systems in place for CURBSIDE orders. It is hard for some people to go inside while it's raining with multiple children in five point harnesses. read more

I came here after dinner craving something sweet. It was nice being able to grab donuts in the evening. The space is relatively small, but it was clean and organized. The donuts weren't on the board, but rather on the table at the register. I ordered 4 donuts (maple, blueberry pancake, pb icing w toffee crunch, and pb with chocolate drizzle). They were all really good since they are fresh. The icing is all unique, however the base of the donut dough is all the same. It was very busy so it took a long time to get a dozen donuts (30 minutes). I also wish they had glazed options. I am not one for over-the-top toppings so I usually go with the simple chocolate frosting but the thing that makes these donuts unique is they are made fresh to order. These donuts are all customized to order, no donuts sitting in a container here! They also get very busy! Holy smokes. Where do I start? You walk in, and are immediately greeted by the employees. The girl at the counter asked me if I had been in before (I hadn't), and she explained how the whole process worked. It's like build-a-bear, but with fresh hot donuts (how can you go wrong with that?). You pick a coating, a topping, and a drizzle if you want. I chose half a dozen, because even though I could probably eat the entire box myself, I was headed to work so I figured I would share the glory that is Duck Donuts. They also offer a sheet on the counter that are fan favorites, or topping combos that are commonly ordered by customers so you don't have to spend too long coming up with all your different donuts. After you order, they start making your fresh donut, and drop them into the fryer. Then they add all the fun toppings. I walked out with the warmest box of donuts I've ever laid my eyes on. I almost didn't make it to work without eating one, or three. My favorite one I tried would have to be the lemon coating! So I really enjoyed the donuts we got during a Yelp event last year, but a few weeks ago when we stopped in for a few donuts as a snack, we were really disappointed. It took a long time and they seemed to be struggling with the oil temperature or something because they were tossing donuts. Well, ours should have been tossed too. I had heard from many people how good this place was, so I figured I had to try it out. I am not a huge doughnut fan but WOW these are amazing. They offer a number of speciality doughnuts that are made FRESH right in front of you. I tried the blueberry pancake and was not disappointed at all. They come out hot so I recommend eating it there or shortly after you get it to enjoy the amazingness of a hot fresh treat. The service was just as good as the doughnut. I'm so tired of novelty donuts. I just want a donut that tastes good in Kansas City! Let's start with the base donut. First of all they need to be cooked a few seconds longer. I need a donut that can withstand topping without collapse or sponging. The flavor was quite drab for a cake donut. I can taste the cheap flour used. Maybe they should splurge on a nicer brand of flour? I'll include this in the base portion: If you are going to serve fresh donuts you need to make sure they are cooled to a point where the toppings don't end up in a puddle at the bottom of the box. Donutology is capable of achieving this with their made to order minis, it has to be possible in this application as well. Let's talk toppings. As listed above, after my short drive to my eating location my "blueberry" coating and graham cracker crumbs were fused to the bottom of the box. The coating itself also turned the donut into a soggy sponge. The coating is flavored with esters not real blueberries, and if they do use real produce it has artificial sweeteners completely masking it. I suggest changing the menu board to say "graham cracker dust" "crumbs" imply some crunch, this was a dusting. I asked for salted caramel drizzle but it had completely fallen off the donut into the box. Tasting it off the bottom it was completely overpowered by "blueberry." Lastly let's talk service. I waited in line for about 5 minutes. No complaints there, but it gave me time to assess service. The clerks were friendly and informative to the folks ahead me. Which almost all had children with them. When I got up to the register I wasn't greeted, not so much as a smile to return my own. I was excited for a new donut experience and that set the whole experience into a spiral. While I was ordering the clerk didn't affirm they were listening until I gave my entire order. Only had to repeat myself once so I have confidence they knew what they were doing but could just use some CS training. I ordered 2 donuts for my S.O. and I which we got in about 3-4 min. No complaint with the wait though as they were busy. So in conclusion if you are looking for a novelty place to bring your kids and distract them with some donuts this is the place for you. If you are looking for some good tasting donuts your time is better spent elsewhere. My biggest recommendation for this place is add 10 seats and push dine-in way harder than carry out. I love duck donuts as a franchise, but this location is absolutely horrendous. Both bathrooms were SO dirty that I left to use another restroom from a different business altogether. I can tell the staff is stressed and overwhelmed but a clean bathroom should be a priority. If the bathrooms are this bad, what does the kitchen look like?
