The donuts were the best donuts we've ever had by far, definitely eat them fresh when they're still warm, it was delicious!! Good donuts but a little pricy. Now let me explain what I mean before I get called cheap. Half dozen was less than $10 and the quality/options were amazing/unheard of/oh good night it was amazing! This is a "you get what you pay for" type thing but the donuts are cake style (I love it but not for your Krispy Kream kids). Staff was very friendly and even offered a free donut to my son! It didn't take long for it to be ate along with the ones we bought for him. So donuts were good, and staff was friendly. What else do you need to get your morning moving? Amazing Donuts! We visited with our 5 kids and didn't really know what to expect. The kids were excited to watch them make the donuts right in front of them. We got a dozen assorted and assumed we could pick what donuts we got. I guess they have a set 12 they put in the dozen assorted, so when I asked for a specific one for my toddler they were confused. They actually ended up giving me an extra one (no charge!) for him, in his own box! He was in Heaven. One bite of these donuts and we were all hooked. Normally we can demolish a dozen very quickly since there is 7 of us. These donuts were so rich and tasty that we couldn't eat more than one each! We love this place and the donuts are delicious. They are understaffed this year due to COVID which is no fault of theirs. My only comment is that there are two locations. Since we went to both locations, I can compare those experiences. The one. The one in Nags Head is incredibly slow and not the most efficient. Would be helpful if they had a better process to order that way people would be less confused when they arrive. I think part of the issue is that there is a young gentleman trying to coordinate all of it and he seems a bit confused/inexperienced...the other location in Kill Devil Hills was like a well oiled machine. Also not sure why the Nags Head location is open fewer days and hours but guessing that is because of staffing. I'm not even a fan of donuts and this was the best donut I've ever tasted. I've craved it multiple times since going! They do have some suggested donut pairings, but I'm really glad I decided to make my own. I put chocolate icing (I think) with Oreo topping and caramel drizzle on top and it was spectacular. The donuts are always exceptional. Recently had a very dissatisfactory coffee experience... ordered an iced latte and didn't get it for twenty minutes after my donuts were made. They were very busy, however I told three people they forgot my coffee and they all continued on with other orders instead of making the drink. Used to be a regular stop at the annual family trip to Nags Head and one that we looked forward to but it appears that with the massive expansion of the franchise, sadly standards have fallen. There has been a steady decline in quality but more importantly the ability to order has gotten tedious or downright impossible. The website crashes and the app is such that you cannot place an order or both of those two are fine and the e-commerce platform DD uses is woefully inadequate. Literally it is impossible to give them money and business without going there in person and experiencing the dreaded 'summer people' waiting period. I'd be fine with that model, but when you have an online option advertised there is an expectation that it should work. Nothing more frustrating than building an order several times only to have it not transmitted or have an error returned. DD should do online or phone orders right or not do it at all, and I don't think that is unreasonable. At any rate, our relationship has come to an end...we will still have the memories and that's always a positive. Just can't justify $25 for a dozen donuts that have become 'just good' from a franchise that diluted itself by getting too big for its britches. read more

Let's leave that in there so you feel a little bit better about taking a deep fried cake and putting Icing and gummy bears on the thing. Good concept but the batter they use is more of a cake than Krispy cream kinda donut, I can only speculate that this is so the donuts can hold up to all the toppings. As a visitor, I was really impressed with this duck donuts location. The manager/owner was severely understaffed the morning we stopped in and she kept a smile on her face. All five employees she had worked their tails to fill all the orders, with quality, of an at capacity store. With delicious gourmet donuts made to order that are so warm and tasty, bright fun colors, and helpful friendly staff, we stopped by twice during our short vacay. My favorite was the French Toast because it was toasty and the perfect blend of maple and powdered sugar to create a delicious French toast sensation for my taste buds. There are also cute souvenirs available for purchase. The coffee is not amazing but the donuts more than make up for that. Also, they were open until 9pm so it served as a perfect desert after dinner. Only caution is the sweetness. The gentleman who took our order was very friendly, patient, and helpful with suggestions. Even more, the gentleman who made our donuts accidentally messed up two of the donuts and decided to give us the two extra donuts for FREE! Not sure when this site opened but they seem to have some growing pains. Got there just before closing time and one lady, perhaps the manager, was reprimanding all the other staffer in front of the folks in the store. Maybe they were super busy today, with being a holiday, and put in a long day but they just didn't seem to have their act together. Took 15 minutes to get 2 donuts boxed up only after I mentioned that the folks behind me got their order before me. I also ordered a cappuccino, which seems half empty, mostly foam, I guess. Duck Donuts has a app right now that is not useful at all. It has taken $25.00 of my money. I have tried multiple times to use the app while I am on vacation OBX. I wanted to speak to the manager at the Duck Donuts in Nags Head and she could not be bothered to even turn around and look at me. The app does not expect same day orders and the scanner in the business to use your app does not work. The line was to the door which is a great sign! I usually enjoy my Duck Donut experience because they're delicious but not today. I watched the girl making my dozen. My order is an easy one, assorted, no preference. I let the decorator pick and I've never been disappointed. That all changed this morning. I've never seen anyone on an assembly line moooove soooo sloooow. The girls on both sides of her were blowing it out of the water! Her assorted ended up being three each of four donuts. I was crestfallen when I saw what she was doing. No creativity at all! It made me regret not making my own choices. When she handed me the box without the top I could see globs of icing all over the outside and puddles of frosting around the donuts with sprinkles and crumbs simply dumped on the donuts in heaps. My family and I went here this morning and I have and allergy to peanuts. One of my family members ordered a peanut frosting so we asked if they could put the peanut donut in a different box.
