I also ordered a special, 6 donuts for $6 , which consisted of 2 glazed donuts, 2 powdered sugar donuts and 2 cinnamon sugar donuts. Great deal since a half dozen is normally $13.75. As I waited for my order, I watched the team member create a dozen box. The maple bacon donuts looked amazing with the generous sprinkle of bacon. Every donut is created to order so it's super fresh. When I brought my donuts home, we had fun doing a donut tasting. The cake donut was not too sweet and had a soft interior. We liked the glazed and powdered sugar donuts the most. The powdered sugar donut reminded me of an upgraded version of the small powdered sugar donuts I ate as a kid. I will definitely return to try other varieties. I ordered online, so I just came in to pick up. The interior seems larger than your standard donut shop, probably because the donuts are made to order with all of the equipment in the front. I was one of the only people in there, and since I preordered my donuts, I didn't have to wait at all. I got the chocolate iced and a bacon in the sun. The chocolate iced was good! It tasted about as good as a donuts gets. This shop makes their donuts more cake-y, but not overly sweet. I really came here because I wanted to try the bacon in the sun, and it was also great! It's savory and sweet, and tastes like if a pancake was a donut. I liked both donuts, but I think I'd only get one at a time, because it got too sweet for me at the end. You can order knowing your sugary treat will be fresh. They lean in hard to the duck motif and I found it delightful. The sausage egg and cheese sandwich I had on an English muffin was very tasty. You can get the breakfast sandwich, predictably, on a donut as well. It would be great to have the coffee fixings on an accessible island, but it's a small space, so when you order regular coffee be sure to ask for what you want in it. They understandably prioritize sweet donut orders, so I had to check on my sandwich order when I saw someone who came in behind us get their donut order. When we did receive the sandwich, they did not give us a napkin which would have been nice to have given all the food offered here is meant to be eaten with your hands. I'm in heaven. Duck Donuts has got to be the best donut shop ever! Their donuts are hot. I don't know how they do it and a great selection. My favorite is the maple bacon doughnut. I'm hardly in the area but when I am, this is a definite stop. It's quite a nice shop that offers coffee as well as specialty coffee . In keeping with their name they have a huge assortment of decorative rubber mini ducks. If you own a Jeep you'll really like this for those that don't know Jeep owners leave ducks on the door handle of other jeeps. It's always a nice surprise. We were doing some shopping in the area and wanted some coffee and a snack before driving back to Houston. Duck Donuts is highly rated so it was a no brainer to come check it out. This location is located in a strip of businesses and parking is plentiful. When we arrived there weren't too many people inside. Customer service was good. What sets Duck Donuts apart from other donut spots is that they make your donuts fresh to order and you can customize the toppings to your liking. You pick a donut, a coating, toppings and a drizzle. With each category you have quite a few options to choose from. The possibilities are endless. We picked a few of their creations and created some of our own too. The donuts are of the cake variety which I do like. They had the right consistency without being too dense. Some of the toppings were got were a little too rich for me, but some tasted amazing. I got one of their flavored iced lattes to wash it all down and it too was very tasty. Come to find out Houston had a Duck Donuts for a hot minute but I guess we just weren't ready for it. Went here on a Sunday AM wasn't super busy but it took about 15 mins just to get our six donuts so that's kinda of a drawback about the fresh to order versus at a regular place you get them pretty much immediately. They only have one option of type of donut too, kinda a mix between a cake donut and a yeast donut. I enjoyed them though they're very light and the blueberry donut was delicious! We were visiting from California and wanted some good donuts and we were told to try Duck Donuts so we did just that. One thing we really liked was that they were made to order. We were only going to order 2 donuts but the flavor options made it undeniably hard so we went all in with the half dozen(why not!!). You can't go wrong with whatever you choose because I am pretty sure any flavor you choose will be very delicious. The donuts were warm, cake-like and fluffy, even when I ate one later on in the evening, they were still delicious and NOT DRY. They rewarm very well also so there's no need to fear if you don't eat them right away. I would definitely recommend the original glaze, strawberry shortcake, cinnamon bun, zebra and peanut butter paradise(if you like peanut butter). The customer service did lack because no one really said anything to us until we were ready to place our order and even with that interaction it was very dry, lack luster and non engaging(even when we had questions). I do love how you can see them making them to order. Bc it came out warm and fresh the bottom part of my donut got stuck to my box so for my second donut it had to eat it after it cooled down. Its very children friendly. So many stimulating fun colors all around. It's was National Donut day when I decided to try this place out. The reviews were nothing but good and I had to see what the rave was about. Walked in and it was open, clean and modern looking. You can see them making the donuts, and you can see them decorating it. There were so many flavor combinations, I couldn't hold in the anxiety for so many choices. They do have a menu to help you pick from if you can't make up your own flavor combinations. Note that the base of the donuts are only vanilla flavored. They do not have any chocolate or other flavor based donuts. What flavors the donuts are the toppings, glazes any other items they put on the donut. Also, they are cake like donuts, not the the yeast and rise. They are soft, decadent and scrumptious! The workers are incredibly helpful and patient as it took me a while to choose 12 different flavored donuts. Here is my assessment of each... - Apple Pie: this is seasonal and I wish it wasn't!!!!! This donut was by far the best donut I ever ate in my life!!! One bite and I could have sworn I was transported to dessert heaven! I ate it while it was warm and it tasted exactly like a warm apple pie. It was truly amazing. I have never experienced eating a donut like this before! I think I was hooked! It had all the flavoring of an apple pie, cinnamon, nutmeg, apples! Wow wow wow!!! I wish this was a staple and not seasonal! - Pumpkin Roll: this is seasonal too and it shouldn't be! It's amazing how just a glaze can make this vanilla based donut taste like a pumpkin donut! It had all the fall flavors you wanted in a pumpkin donut! The bacon was a bit chewy but I could see the potential in it. The maple came out. Next time I'll try it when it's warm. - Lemon icing with raspberry glaze (Sunrise): this was such a bright flavored donut! The lemon and raspberry pairs well with each other. One does not dominate the other. You can taste both flavors in each bite! Refreshing with a great sweet/tart combination. - Peanut Butter & jelly: who doesn't like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Nostalgic and brought back childhood memories! - Strawberry Confetti, Caramel Crunch and chocolate icing with sprinkles, cinnamon sugar and regular glazed: It's exactly as expected! Soft, yummy goodness! Strawberry tasted like a strawberry donut, caramel crunch had peanuts and caramel and chocolate deliciousness! Kids loved the chocolate with sprinkles. Everything was great! One piece of advice though, if they don't call your order number out and you see other people who ordered after you get theirs, get up and say something. It shouldn't have taken as long as it did to get my order. Someone didn't call out my number and I waited about 30 minutes when I think the average was 10-15 mins. OH! MY! GAWD! I have always preferred cake donuts . I had heard of Duck Donuts. I mean unless you haven't, find out if your city has one, or two like San Antonio, and get over there. Chose one or half a dozen ... or more ... and enjoy everything from the beginning of the creation of your donut(s), to finally earing it. It's a good thing! The staff, each masked, was friendly, patient, & helpful. Great suggestions. I always ask staff for their favorite, & I try it. The worst part, was having to choose what NOT to get. I did get one wrong in the box, but honestly - who cares! It's an amazing donut. All of them. The thing I like about cake donuts is the fact that the cake itself isn't real sweet. Since the toppings are sweet, the creation Duck Donuts has come up is sheer perfection. At least it is for this donut lover. Granted I had to walk a couple extra miles, totally worth it! As someone who's worked in confection and retail businesses before, Duck Donuts has been exceptionally appalling. As far as the food itself goes, it's nothing special for what you'd expect from a specialty shop. The donuts are in fact made to order vanilla cake donuts and there are tons of different ways you can customize them. If you can imagine it, they can make it, and it's safe to say you won't run out of options. They have a huge menu of popular or rotating seasonal flavors in case you're unsure of what to order. Specialty donuts, donut sandwiches, milkshakes, sundaes, coffee, there's a lot to try, but it's all just very average at best. The donuts themselves are bland and they're never consistently cooked. Some will turn out just fine while others will be too crunchy and too small to warrant the price tag attached to it. The glazes are made with the same base glaze but are over saturated with additional products and flavor to help differentiate them from one another. Sometimes they're burnt and crunchy, other times they're watery and leaking into one another. A fair warning to those with peanut allergies; the cross contamination at this location is insane. If you don't believe me you can watch them as they prep your order at the topping station, complete with a little platform you can stand on to watch them behind the glass. In fact it's one of the things they pride themselves in as a specialty shop. Even taking into consideration their status as a specialty shop, I do think that their menu is still too overpriced. Outside of their food, the business itself is truly abysmal. This location has been shut down a couple of times due to health violations and reopened only to have the same issues arise days after. The place is always filthy (oil from the conveyor belts all over the place, constant water leaks creating slipping hazards that myself and friends have witnessed, toppings and the made to order dough caked into floors, and lack of cleanliness in general amongst too many other things) and things are constantly breaking down. Management has been extremely rude to both customers and employees alike in the past, a few of the employees will sit on the food prep tables and ignore customers, and the turnover rate for the employees that do care about their job is super high because they are treated horribly. As mentioned before, the store likes to pride themselves on the fact that you can watch the donuts being decorated at the topping station and being made on the conveyor belt, but to me it's more concerning than anything to see part of the dough bag mixed into of a freshly dropped donut or see a forgotten spatula get caught in the gears of the conveyor belt and watch one of the employees try to reach into the scalding oil barehanded to try to pry it out of the machine. Not to mention, management and the owner like to dust off the lighting above the uncovered topping station during business hours so you don't know what's ending up in your food. If you want to gamble with your health over subpar food then this is the place for you. Otherwise, Duck Donuts is not worth your well-being or your money. Tried Duck Donuts for the first time using curbside pickup and I'm officially a fan! If you're a "donut enthusiast" like myself, take note they only make cake donuts. I actually prefer yeast donuts, but still wanted to give them a try with an open mind. Duck donuts did not disappoint! They have a variety of donuts to choose from and had some pretty unique ones, so I ordered a bunch of them (had no self-control) but shared them with the family. They were warm and soft, fresh donuts, and they were really good. It tasted like a donut/cake combined. It's really different from the typical Duncan donuts and Krispy Kreme for sure. I really liked the blue berry one, coconut, and oreo one but so many to try. My family also really enjoyed them and would definitely consider going back here in the future. Had never tried cake-style donuts and they were pretty good. I did the build your own with vanilla base, raspberry topping, and raspberry sauce topped with coconut flakes. Not your typical donut but there's no discrimination here. They have all kinds of donuts you can build. I suggest coming at an off-hour as it can get crowded with peeps.
