At first, from the outside, I thought I was walking into a barbershop because of the door, but stepping inside was a fun surprise. The space is really unique--almost like a mini indoor shopping mall. The coffee shop is right at the front, but as you walk further back, there's a barbershop and a few other small shops to explore. Despite all that, it still has a chill, relaxed vibe. Plenty of seating and big windows make it perfect for hanging out with a book. I ordered the Holiday Inn Cambodia coffee, and it was fantastic. the service was great. Barista gave me a few recommendations. I'll definitely be back--this is a great spot to unwind, read, or just get out of the house for a little while. If I had to pick one coffee shop to visit for the rest of my life, it would probably be San Antonio Gold! This coffee shop is the definition of consistency and quality. Their menu is small but mighty, and the coffee beans they use are excellent! They originally started in one of the units within the Freight building, and now have taken over the entire main entrance. Since their move, the've added more tables which makes it a perfect space to co-work, study or to have meetings. My go-to coffee order is their Vanilla Latte with oat milk and extra shot of espresso. The blend of the coffee and the syrup is perfection and not too sweet or too bitter. They also have a couple of baked goods which are always delicious, and once in a while they'll have other small businesses do food pop-ups. Please do yourself a favor and come check out this amazing local business! Just keep in mind that parking in this side of town is a little tricky but they do have additional parking behind their building. read more

Now onto Gold, I was a bit bummed when he wasn't at the trailer but happy he opened up his own shop and started visiting regularly. From its humble beginnings of a few bar stools, limited menu, and a small space to the wide open space that is Gold today, the constants have been killer coffee, awesome service, and great convo if it's not a mad rush. From standard drip to espresso to imaginative inventions, the coffee is top notch. If you're hankering for something different, talk to them a they will take care of you. Staff has always been awesome and they definitely know what they're doing. I once asked about chemex ratios and was given an on the spot class. Fortunately they had something called Angry Samoan which was said to be similar to those nostalgic Samoas Girl Scout cookies. Boy! This was yummy! Smooth coconut and caramel deliciousness. The parking here is atrocious, not many spaces and it's super tight, but it's to be expected. They don't carry almond milk, sad day. They don't offer cold foam, fine. Wow! This place had a great vibe! We came in to try the coffee shop and noticed a barbershop in the back. They took walk ins so we got my boyfriend a nice cut then enjoyed some super good coffee! They had a lot of places to sit and it was very pretty and clean. A good place to study. I liked how smooth the chai tea was and was perfectly cool and sweet. I tried the iced mocha and it was a really nice tasting coffee they use really nice on the tongue. Had really kind workers who actually connected with the customers. Visited after hearing about this place from my brother, we visited on a Saturday around noon. I got a matcha latte and he got a cappuccino. I would absolutely come back again as it is such a creative and intentional space that hosts a variety of artists and students. When I needed a solid caffeinated coffee before my drive back to Austin, I happen to stumble upon GOLD while in the area record shopping. As soon as we walked inside the beautiful smells of freshly roasted coffee grinds ignited my interest in not just the coffee but all the beautiful and local artwork inside. I was in awe of how many pieces they have of local artist, Tattooed Boy, all over the walls and almost up to the ceiling! As a fan I was almost envious of how many they had! HA! The aesthetic here is very cool, modern, spooky, and welcoming all at the same time. Next time I am in town I am definitely coming here to post up and get some work done. Everyone was chill that were deep in focus of their own work, drawing, or just even catching up with friends over some coffee. I was tempted to get my usual, an iced mocha, but once the barista pointed out the seasonal menu I had to get their Holiday in Cambodia drink they had. It was a cold brew that maybe had oat milk, cinnamon too, and some strong cold brew. It's my fault I didn't take a picture of the menu because now I cannot remember what the cold brew all included. DUDE! I just discovered that each employee that works here, has their own curated playlist, (that maybe they get to play during their shift?!) posted on their website on both Spotify and Apple platforms! This is a game changer for me as I really did dig the music that was playing overhead as we hung out here for a minute. Ambiance is on point! It's clean and the service is good. The people are nice BUT they don't really try to help you with the menu or options. My partner is caffeine sensitive due to an autoimmune disease and the staff did not even try to recommend half a shot of expresso like most places that don't offer decaf. Why don't they offer decaf? We almost didn't buy anything at all but we got a couple of drinks and the flavors were just mixed up together and we couldn't really tell them apart (vanilla iced latte and a chai latte) the coffee in the drinks does not even have a good flavor it's barely there but the caffeine is definitely there. They need to post that they don't offer decaf or start carrying it. There are people that love coffee but can't do the caffeine. Or at least offer half or a quarter shot of expresso. Also don't be scared and list your phone number. If we could've called ahead of time and asked if you had decaf it would have saved a lot of bad feelings. read more

So, I drink a lot of "Arnold Palmers" - ya know - iced tea + lemonade. Years back, someone introduced me to lemonade and cold brew coffee. Yes, I know it SOUNDS weird, but it really changed my flavor profile / palate for coffee. Love the citrus undertones. San Antonio Gold serves a great cold brew + lemonade combo. Well, another 5-star espresso house in SA checked off on my exploration list. I rate mainly by the espresso quality as served in a cappuccino. If you saw my check-in comment you already know I liked it. They seem to prefer Ethiopian beans which I regard as the best source country. They only charge $4 for a medium-size cap served with 6 oz whole milk. I was tempted to give it a 4-star because personally I prefer a 4oz serving, making the 6oz a bit milky for me. But I decided that's not fair since the quality in every way is great. Next time I'll just request a long pull or double espresso shot - or less milk. All inside seating, the shop has a pleasant hip atmosphere inside with a motorcycle apparel shop inside, too. They have really good music choices at a decent volume and but *not* so loud as to disturb if you are working. Otherwise a pretty quiet place on a cold January Saturday afternoon. Very friendly people at the espresso bar. BTW: If you use Yelp as your source for directions, it will send you down Cassiano St a short distance which is incorrect.
