Best cake donut. Hands down. I ordered the 2 donut 1 coffee special and opted for a maple bacon and lemon icing. They have a really impressive maple icing and the bacon was nice and salty and sprinkled liberally over the whole donut. I haven't tried the lemon icing and may give it to my husband to try. We'll see. I am not the biggest supporter of the cake variety of donut but Duck Donuts had changed my mind. The dough is light and fluffy and it took 6 bites to finish the donut! I love this place. The donuts come out hot, fresh and delicious. There is something for everyone. The last time I was here I had the cinnamon and sugar. I loved the way the cinnamon and sugar were perfectly blended together, as one did not overpower the other. There was crunch as I took my first bite of the sugar blend and then the softness of the center of the donut melted in my mouth. I've had other donuts from here and have never been disappointed. I love the donuts.... But they are the same no matter which one you go to. I will not return to this location for one simple reason... They are stingy on the bacon topping and are rude about it when asked for more. I have had the maple bacon at several locations and the top is full of bacon. The last two times at this place there was hardly any bacon on it. The first time I questioned it they added a little more, but the second and LAST time the guys flat out said we can't, and I said ' really, there is hardly any on it" and cold and rude he just quipped, " we're not allowed" and turned away!!! The owners of this location need to go visit other locations and see what makes duck donuts great, cuz they are screwing up on keeping customers! read more

What a lovely place to go on a lovely day! Make sure you plan ahead because it's gets busy! Which is fine by me, I was greeted and helped tremendously by every employee and wasn't rushed when I couldn't decide between one or 21 donuts. A friend told me you must eat them while hot, so I did, while still delish I do love them after they have cooled. Different strokes for different folks! First and foremost, the donuts are fantastic. You have to wait for them, because they are made to order, but that ensures that you get them warm. I tried peanut butter with peanut topping, and a chocolate iced donut. Both were completely fantastic. Definitely some of the best donuts I've ever had, particularly the peanut butter one. I docked one star because of the peanuts. This place is not allergy friendly in the least. The peanuts are stored in a bin directly above all the other toppings, and the workers haphazardly grab them. I don't see how they can even remotely guarantee you won't get stray peanuts in your box, much less any concern for general cross contamination. I also docked a star for the service. They just opened a few days ago and are clearly in high demand. I found out when I got there at 250 that they close at 3. I didn't get my donuts until about 310. The workers, including the manager/owner(?) were counting down the minutes until closing time. The girl taking orders tried to close at 255 but was told by the other workers she had to wait until 3. She then excitedly told her co-cashier that at 3 they "got to" go outside and tell people they were closed for the day. Then sure enough at 3, the guy that seemed to be in charge turned off the open sign and i watched him turn 4 people away, all between 3 and 3:06. Quite obviously the customers aren't important to them, ridiculous that you would stand there and turn multiple people away for being minutes late. The parking is also horrendous. They literally have 4 spots in front of the store. Once the donuts are room temperature, they are just too greasy to eat, so eat them quickly. Warm Donuts are worth it, everything else is pitiful. read more

I had heard of Duck Donuts since moving to the area and I started looking for my "go to" donut place. So, when they opened up here in VA Beach recently, I was anxious to see what the buzz was all about. If you know me at all, you know that I have found my donut home but I am open to trying new things and mixing it up from time to time (sorry PD!). So, today we stopped by after the kids got out of school to give this place a try. We arrived and filled out the form for our order. The line moved fairly quickly and the staff was all very nice to us as Duck Donut newbies. Once we placed the order, we waited for it to be filled. It wasn't a long wait and the donuts came out hot. I had to try the maple bacon and it was OK. The maple was too sweet for me and luckily the bacon balanced it out. Otherwise, as others stated, there was too much frosting for my taste. I actually liked the cinnamon sugar sample quite a bit because it was much lighter on the sweet topping. Next time (if there is one), I will stick with them. As of the writing of this review, we haven't eaten the rest of the dozen and plan to have them in the morning for breakfast. We'll see if they are a little better the next day. So, overall, this place didn't do it for me. Meh is more like it but I am bumping it up a star since I have a bias against cake donuts. They aren't my favorite. I am also bumping it up a star because of the service. We were treated very well by the staff and they had plenty of folks there making sure the orders were filled in a timely manner. I am not sure I'll be back but I admit that its probably a function of personal preference rather than quality of the product. If you are a fan, knock yourself out. I pinky swear these donuts were the best I've ever had east of the Mississippi and for a Cali guy like me who's had over a bajilion donuts that's a very profound statement. Popped into Duck Donuts today and had a great cake donut! Lines were non-existent (although, this was mid-January, tourists beware!) :) Two things they did that I particularly liked, the first was, when we were totally waffling at the front of the line, the guy was like, cool, I'll just be chilling over here till you're ready. When we clearly had finished, he sauntered back and took our order. Second thing was that the guy who served our donut was genuinely jovial! Joked and apologized for the wait (which was roughly 90 seconds, from order to piping hot donut). Store was clean as was the outside seating area. They get dinged just a little cause, well, they serve one donut, 97 ways. If you want a giant Boston eclair or a apple fritter, you're still going to Dunkin. read more

One time place in my opinion and I love donuts! It was around noon on a Saturday when my significant other and I stopped by to check this place out. There were many people in the establishment and no parking to be found. We ordered 3 donuts, to include maple bacon, orange cream (donut of day) and a lemon icing with sprinkles. Our ticket number was promptly called and out we went with our hot donuts and a bottled soda. They looked quite gooey and I was smart to grab a handful of napkins (you'll need them!). The Donuts looked very good but were very, very messy. The glaze is seemingly poured on and it is so hot that it runs off without sticking or hardening. So your left with a donut with no icing or mush. They also seemed very cake-like, more than donut-like. All in all, unless you enjoy a mess, skip it. I love donuts but it didn't make my list. Went to this location to get donuts this morning since the other local shop I wanted to try was closed. I was very disappointed. When I ordered the 3 employees were complaining about how bad the place was/how the store is falling apart. I tried to order a coffee and the associate told me he did not know how to make the coffee I ordered. I told them never mind that I would order a coffee somewhere else. He then told me that was a good idea that "their coffee sucks." I really did not want to go elsewhere for coffee because I wanted it with my donut instead I left with no coffee. Of the 1/2 dozen I ordered, 3 of my donuts were missing elements to them that were supposed to be on them. Overall a very disappointing experience. This is why I do not usually go here. read more

My husband called me twice to rave about the goodness of some donuts from this place on virginia beach Blvd and when he later that day came home he was still going on about the donuts and said "they open 6am, I'm going tomorrow morning! " Now... he did not go 6am but he did wake me up and pulled me out of bed to go and get these donuts. First impression walking in was good. It was clean, and packed (always a good sign right?) I love being able to see the process of the donuts from batter to box. The ordering process was also easy. To eliminate lines they have a rather good system going, you write your order on an order sheet that a friendly employee gives your and then you go up to pay and have them or in the order. We got a dozen of donuts. Four original glazed (can never go wrong with original glazed), four bacon maple donuts, one strawberry glazed, one lime glazed and then two each of the daily special which was french toast and Cinnabon. For those attentive readers out there toy might have counted more than a dozen but hey, we had to have something on the way back (took us 40 min to get there) I'm not gonna break down each flavor because i didn't try all but for the ones I did try I must say yumm! I don't know if I'd call my spouse about it twice but they were good. I'd say, if you want something else than oh say krispy Kreme or dunkin' then try this place..you will not be let down. My first review was shortly after they opened. They have come a long way and made great improvements. The donuts alone are a solid 5 star!!!! I do wish they had a nice seating area with tables. But, atleast they have a bench to sit on while waiting. The drive-thru is now open. The service is friendly. Be prepared to wait in a long line on the weekend though. I'm a doughnut fanatic and these are by far some of the greatest doughnuts I've ever had. I'm from New Jersey so gourmet doughnuts in New York are good but expensive. I've paid 3 dollars for a small doughnut before so coming across these were heaven sent. They're made to order and you get to see them being made. I had ordered a few different ones to try and had to wait. Just like people said the parking was horrible! I went on a Wednesday at 11:30 thinking it wouldn't be bad. Customer service was lacking. The employees (about 6-8) were just standing around behind the counter. No one greeted me and I felt rushed to put in an order. This place left me underwhelmed. No fillings? No where to sit? I've heard about this place for some time and finally went today. It's a good thing that it wasn't around in my younger days because I used to enjoy then the more-than-occasional "fat pill". It's also a good thing today that it's a bit out of the way. As I write this my wife is attacking my chocolate and bacon donut that I thought was safe in the kitchen. Big mistake. I'm hearing strange noises coming from over there. We got a 6-pack of to-order donuts with various icings and toppings. A pretty wide range of options and specials. The donuts were hot when we received them. I especially like the little QC touch they add by letting you visual the donuts before they give them to you. Service was excellent and we didn't wait too long but it wasn't a rush hour either. It is obvious that the crew takes pride in their work; these are not mass-produced and so seem a bit like little works of art. A very intriguing business concept by the way. Everything fresh, at the consumer's desire, a "pull-system" with no wastage, and I don't think that there was necessarily that much extra labor involved. The donuts seem a little pricey until you try one, then all petty ideas such as this vanish. The place does a lively business as people were constantly coming and going. read more

Look I'm not a donut guy; they take too much cardio to justify and I'd rather have some Froyo or ice cream if dessert is on the menu but on recommendation I took a shot. To provide some context I find Krispy Kreme to be disgusting (and somewhat insulting with the whole "turn the light on& watch them herd like buffalo to the door" technique) so my style is more simple and plain and not loaded with goop and sugary gook.... So how did I end up with a Maple Bacon donut you ask? Because it was available that's how. Fresh made, hot moist donuts, fresh toppings (like glaze of various flavors, nuts, fruits and BACON), and a small enough donut to not feel like you're eating all your day's calories in one shot. I hate to give negative reviews in general and especially when I've been here multiple times with great experiences however this time warrants a review. I placed and online order at 8:58am. I received an email saying it would be ready at 9:29. I arrived at 9:40, waited for about 5 minutes then just decided to just flag down an employee. I let him know my name and email confirmation said my order would be ready at 9:29. I was told they have been very busy and I would be ready soon. Over the next 25 minutes multiple guests just started leaving upset. When I finally received my order at 10:04 (hour and six minutes after ordering) there was still one gentlemen just waiting for over 20 minutes just to cancel his order but no one was working the register or willing to answer questions. The employees were clearly overwhelmed and understaffed. As a whole I've had multiple good experiences and always great donuts I just hope they work out their staffing issues before they lose any more new or existing customers. read more
