I got a real kick out of my visit to Due Amici, a lot of experiences and adventures in a very small space and time! But hey, that's Ybor for ya. First things first - this poem was written on the wall of a stall in the ladies room, of this pizza and pasta joint: "Roses are red, Lunch is at noon, Nothing is better, Than crab rangoon" Don't worry, I don't know the context either but I so happily LOLd. Of all the random things to add to the flavor of a place. And speaking of flavor! My friend and I wandered into Due Amici to grab an affordable bite during an afternoon of bar hopping, and a place to grab a slice totally hit the spot. Gazing droolingly through the glass case at the prepared pies, there were so many tantalizing options! I had to ask about one of them plopped with ricotta, turns out it was the lasagna pizza and I needed that immediately. I also grabbed a slice of the buffalo chicken because it was just so pretty! I also wanted a glass of wine with my pizza, and saw on a shelf above the bar they had many bottles of a house wine, how cool! I ordered a glass, and had no idea the poor gent checking us out would have to scale the shelves to grab a bottle to open to pour me up - but he did so without a gripe or fuss, and even showed a peek of his buttcrack during his wine gymnastics! I was not at all mad to have dinner AND a show. ;) This place is cool - wonderfully clean inside with a great neighborhood Italian vibe, including a case of fresh pasta alongside the gorgeous pizzas! We liked the reviews of Due Amici and after having their Lasagna and Eggplant Parmigiana are very happy we did! Both dishes were served steaming hot with a breaded garlic knot on top. A very good and balanced portion of meat, cheese and sauce. Please allow my bias on the sauce, we loved the taste! The seating area is open with just enough light. The tables and floors are clean and some nice decor is spread throughout. The staff really hustles and our server was very nice and attentive with just the right amount of humor. And be certain to treat yourself to a cannoli. Very tasty and without the "way too hard shell" you find at other establishments. read more

Holy pizza! If you want authentic NY-style pizza, this is it! The pizza we got was HUGE but still had lots of flavor and the crust was perfectly dough-y (yes, that's a word). I grabbed a "vegetable salad" which was romaine, greens, tomatoes, onion, cucumber, broccoli, bell pepper and blocks of cheese. It was so fresh and delicious. Have been excited to try Due Amici for quite some time now. Social media and Yelp have continuously pointed me towards Due Amici with their massive, delectable looking pizza slices, wonderful ambiance/interior, and great customer service. While I was able to experience all of this during our visit to Due Amici, the pizza, the main reason I was there, did not hit the spot nor meet my expectations based on everyone else's reviews and takes. The pizza was by no means a bad pizza, the crust was done perfectly, it was cooked well, and the toppings were abundant, but there was just something missing that didn't make this a 5 star pizza for me. With that being said, we did get a chicken bacon ranch pizza and we weren't drunk. I consider that a mistake on our end. Not because Due Amici made the pizza poorly but because my expectations of a CBR pizza were different from my present state of mind. Anyways, pizza was large as advertised, was definitely good but not great, and service didn't skip a beat. Will be back to try a regular cheese or pepperoni slice to get the true rating of Due Amici and update if so needed. read more

I must say this was truly great. I thought I was getting Cavatelli but I got a penne and I'm ok with it because the sauce to meat ratio was PERFECT. I came in expecting it to be one of those places with worn out pizza staff that don't care about the job or the place. I found that they were very service inclined, very friendly, very reasonable with their prices, and their food is pretty good. Their pizza is good. Nothing more needs to be said. In the back they have an area where they sell other things like pasta and desserts. I can't tell you much about the pasta but I can tell you about the desserts. The desserts are really good. We tried 4 of their desserts and found them to be better quality than what we thought they'd be. It was a prefect blend of feeling homemade, and sweet but not too sweet. It's definitely worth checking out. I went at a time when there wasn't any "Ybor weekend madness" and I found that the experience was well worth it. read more

Since my original review, I've been back to Due Amici about 5 times and it progressively gets worse. The first few times were with coworkers and the food was okay. The service is honestly what gets me back. This most recent time, I went with my boyfriend and it was horrible. We waited 20+ minutes to be serviced. It wasn't busy but we were just there. Once we got our pizza it was hard and slightly burnt. I ordered cannolis and they took forever to come out it seems. They said it was being made fresh and I couldn't tell. Fast forward to last week, we were in Ybor doing the audio tour and thought, okay we have to go back to see if it is just as good. Y'all. It is amazing. If you don't go to New York, it's a large one sliced pizza to me was a little expensive, but tasted good. There is no service so you order at the bar pay at the bar and pick up your order at the bar they have a good variety of pizzas not just your traditional cheese and pepperoni pizza. They have a barbecue pizza, a barbecue chicken pizza, buffalo chicken pizza, three or four different cheese pizzas but I was hard-pressed to see just a pepperoni pizza. The favorite slice in the group was the meat lovers. The bacon was diced up very thinly, Just an overall good slice. We had to stop over at the dessert display case. I have to assume it was an owner or manager that came up to us. She was delightful! She gave us three cannolis complimentary. They have several jars of sauce available.
