We have been seeing this place and saying we are going to go one day. Well, we finally went on Valentine's Day and had a blast. All the staff including the owner were welcoming and kind. The owner came by after each portion of our meal and asked our honest opinions about everything. The music was nice and just the right volume and we got to hear some of the live piano before we left. The food was good. We had a few things for feedback but mostly they were preferences like we'd like more seasoning on the scallops. They were cooked well yet bland. Also, I ordered the steak medium and it was too cooked so I'll order medium rare next time. But that's with all restaurants you have to figure out which heat you want you steak. I will say I appreciated that they did pay attention to details like the veggies. I'm a true meat liver but the veggies were cooked to perfection where you still have a crunch to them and they seasoned perfectly. By the way everything else was seasoned well. I did not get a chance to try any wine but I did notice they have some familiar local wines that I like so that is awesome. I did however try the strawberry smash and it was tasty !! We came here on a Sunday for brunch. They have live jazz starting at around 11am. We ordered a mimosa, strawberry pancakes, blueberry pancakes, and the baked Brie. I didn't catch the name of our server but she has brown hair. Service was very friendly. She seemed to be the only one taking care of all the tables at that time. She checked up on us frequently. The baked Brie looks a bit like an empanada and is on top of a small pile of chopped figs. Very flaky and freshly baked. The mimosa was strong. Just a splash of orange juice. The pancakes were huge. Each pancake was probably about 7.5" inches in diameter. Our server was very nice and asked if we wanted anything extra like syrup. Go with the extra syrup. There wasn't a lot of berry compote for the last pancakes. We were in and out in about 40 minutes. The bill came out to about $60 before tip. Looking at the menu it seems it's more of a special occasion steakhouse than brunch. read more

I've heard mixed reviews about Makse, and decided to check them out for myself finally. I arrived for brunch on Friday around 11am, and there were only two other tables occupied; so it wasn't busy and I was seated immediately by Francesca the waitress. The inside has a nice decor with background and a stage with a piano and drum set. The three tables occupied, including mine, were seated next to the windows where we can look out to Main Street. Francesca was the only waitress working the tables, but she was very attentive and courteous to all of us. I started off with an Irish Latte and it was amazing! One of the best cocktails I've had in quite some time. I ordered some seared sea scallops as an appetizer; the scallops were cooked perfect, and honestly felt they could have stood on their own without the sauce. I went with the smash burger and fries for my entree. The quality of the beef patties and bacon were pretty good, but the burger sauce used I wasn't too crazy about. It was a bit excessive, and took away some flavor of the patties unfortunately. The fries were nice and crispy with a nice touch of salt. I was gonna give this Makse experience 3-stars, but I'm bumping it up to 4-stars for Francesca's friendly service and that Irish Latte cocktail. I have mentioned not judging a book by its cover and I mean it, do not trust Yelp and just trust your gut, take chances in places you would never, risk having a bad meal so you can enjoy the great meals. My friend and I popped in on a Sunday afternoon after visiting two other bar/restaurants and Josh was AMAZING! His customer service was impeccable. When I asked for a recommendation for a drink that didn't taste like alcohol, he recommended the Carrillo. We LOVED it! I will always ask for that one wherever I go just to do a taste testing. Really disappointing experience at Makse Restaurant, especially for the price point. Service was extremely slow -- my husband had to ask four separate times over about 20 minutes before finally receiving a beer. We were also given a dirty appetizer plate, and later there was a hair in my salad. The menu description was also misleading. The 'beet salad with goat cheese and candied walnuts' turned out to be mostly sliced beets and a round of goat cheese with only a very small amount of lettuce, which was surprising given the description and price. Should probably be listed as an appetizer, sliced beets and goat cheese, not a salad. My husband ordered the ribeye and it was really yummy and cooked well (med rare). The beats were good until I found the surprise lol. With a new baby, my husband and I decided to celebrate our anniversary somewhere close by where we didn't have to drive too far away from our little one. We were so glad to learn that there is a cute restaurant in town--perfect for a little date night. Our server was Tom. We appreciated him kindly sharing his impressions of the items on the menu. Easily the best restaurant in Vacaville for food, service and of course, ambiance. Let's start with the food. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip and garlic fries for appetizers. We were a party of 7 and that was easily enough for everyone to snack on before the entrees. I ordered the filet mignon, medium rare. It was tender and perfect. A very hearty portion. It was accompanied by sweet carrots, and garlic mashed potatoes. Both were flavorful and satisfying. I paired it with the in-house strawberry lemonade. Delectable! My plus one ordered the chicken cordon bleu. It was a big portion with tender chicken and delicious garlic potatoes as well as veggies. The service was spot on, the food took some time but was worth the wait! They allowed us to decorate for the occasion. We had a regal, elegant theme with the grand piano in the background. We had dinner reservations at 8pm for our large party. The restaurant had a beautiful interior with wooden floors and tables, exposed brick on the walls, and a cute little stage upstairs in the dining room with a couple musicians setting the mood with jazzy renditions of old school classics on the bass and guitar. There's plenty of seating inside, as well as a small patio area with a bit of bar style seating and cute string lights lit at night. The place was not busy at all on a Saturday night. I loved the range of specialty cocktails on their menu, especially multiple lemon flavored options, my fave. Some of the different drinks we tried were the southern sass lemonade, strawberry smash, whiskey sour, sour cherry lemondrop martini, and death or liberty. Flavors were really good, but alcohol content was not consistent. We got several drinks throughout the night, even as we ventured downstairs after dinner for some late night entertainment (separate review for the piano dueling). The ambience was great and the service was super helpful and attentive to our many needs and requests, especially Patrick. The food was really good overall. Some of our favorite items (appetizers and sides) were the crab cakes, brussels and bacon, cheesy garlic bread, seared sea scallops, and mac and cheese. The pork chops and some of the other meats had really good flavor, but were kinda dry. But the biggest disappointment was that they were OUT OF SO MANY MENU ITEMS on a Saturday evening, including calamari, spinach dip, grilled broccolini, horseradish sauce, vanilla ice cream as part of the desserts, and short ribs (the list goes on and on). What's worse is they tell us that they're out of certain items after we have already waited 30+ minutes for our order to be ready and the rest of the dishes for our party are now being served. Note: they did comp a ribeye steak, a cocktail, and garlic bread for their lack of communication and professionalism, and the staff was apologetic... but still, that's pretty bad, and from the looks of it, being out of menu items seems to be a regular thing at this establishment (which makes it kind of pointless to have such a great menu). My friends and I went there for the first time. For one is really overpriced! My friends for the shrimp Alfredo and it looked like a kids meal. They were still hungry and had to order an appetizer just to be full. There was a hair in my friends Hurricane drink and it tasted awful. The other 3 drinks were fine. We at first asked for the spinach dip appetizer and he said he sold their last one, but the restaurant was pretty much empty so I don't believe that. It took forever to get our food that we joked that the must be catching the shrimp and plucking the feathers off the chicken we ordered. It was pretty loud because they had a party downstairs. Let me just start by saying, that even the people serving us on this first and last occasion were aware that what we experienced was totally unfair, and they were expecting for this review to hit the fan today.. So as graceful as I can be.. It's Mothers Day, we have been in church most of the day, have not eaten since Saturday evening, so we were really looking forward to enjoying this meal at the restaurant. We are a family of 5, Dad & Mom, with a 10 year old that is fully autistic, an 8year old, and a 1 year old. They had breakfast but were waiting for dinner. So upon arriving, it wasn't full, it was calm and very relaxing, but the servers seemed flustered as it appeared they were short of staff, you can tell that they were serving out side of their position, nevertheless we stayed. When we sat down, we were quick to order as we had looked at the menu for the 2hours we were on the road waiting to arrive.. we order and we were very clear about the request of our steak because of dietary restrictions... A Tomahawk Steak, just salt, we are on a carnivore diet, so we opted out of the sides, and asked for it to be simply seasoned in salt.. she said no problem... she noted everything carefully with assurance, and by the way she was very sweet to us, no issues with her.. Kids ordered their meal. An hour and 10 min later, the food came, kids food and ours, we walked our daughter many times to keep her in peace, and when the steak came, it came dressed in sauce with onions everywhere, mashed potatoes, and vegetables everywhere.. they did not even read the ticket.. who dropped the ball?? I don't know.. but we paid for it... The waitress was very apologetic she knew it was totally wrong and that she had done her job, she offered an alternative to redo the tomahawk, but I know very well that was gonna be another hour, uhm no... they said forty five for a regular looking steak or 35 min butterflied, I'm alright.. I said cancel it I'm not going to wait that long, they ruined it for us.. the one moment that reading the ticket matters chefs! So in the end, out of mercy, I let my two boys eat, they ate fast and solo because they felt bad.. my daughter didn't eat, me and momma on Mother's Day didn't eat, instead... it was... you ready for it.... In N Out for us. And they still made us pay for the kids food. I hope someone reads this, that it would be seen the consideration of their mistake... they ruined a moment of a Mother's Day for a family, and still made them eat it, and pay for it... or send them all away, don't charge them, but the kids leave hungry... do I feel sorry for this business?? no, they should know better... they had no sympathy for us, why should we.. don't go here... from FRESNO, would've have loved to have left a wonderful review, as we were anticipating to visit this hopeful gem, but now.. impossible.. My friend set up a reservation for our party at 11 AM on a Sunday. We arrived early to our reservation to an almost empty restaurant. Our server seated us quickly and immediately asked what we wanted to drink. I ordered the bottomless mimosas that are advertised on the menu only to be told that they were out of champagne. The server was apologetic and did offer me the option to purchase prosecco by the bottle or the glass. I declined and decided on the espresso martini. Another friend in my party tried to order a bloody mary and we were also told their shipment of bloody mary mix never arrived. Disappointed in the lack of availability of brunch drinks, we decided to cut our reservation short and find somewhere else to dine. I do understand things happen but Makse fell short once again. Our server was very sweet and I know it's no fault of her own that items were unavailable. I was just expecting more of a high end experience from this establishment. It is the middle of summer so I was expecting it to be super cool inside but unfortunately that was not the case... they were working on some type of fan or ac system but honestly I felt bad for the staff, I was sitting and was super hot, I can't imagine having to work in the heat like that. The service despite the heat was pretty great, the gal that worked the bar was super sweet and helpful! She was knowledgeable on what was in each dish and super friendly. She also made a great mojito! We ordered the brussel sprouts with bacon and then I ordered the steak tips sandwich. The brussel sprouts were delicious!! The same not so much for the steak sandwich.. that was a slab of fatty meat with a couple of bites of edible meat mixed in. The veggies, mozzarella and bread were fine.. I probably could have made it a glorified grilled cheese sandwich... the fries on the other hand pretty tasty. But spending that much money on fries not really worth it. Went to Mäksē with my son's hockey team for brunch after their game. They were able to accommodate our large group as the space is very large with multiple outdoor patios and indoor space. The food was top notch with fresh ingredients. The brunch options were amazing with plenty for kids and adults. He ordered the Makse Burger with fries and I ordered the Chicken Parmesan with garlic cheese bread on the side. The service was so busy to the point where the server forgot my garlic cheese bread and I had to end up taking it to go. The people next to us were also getting impatient because they were waiting a while for their order too and had to remind the waiter. The restaurant upstairs is nice and sleek but downstairs can get pretty chaotic and crowded when you are there for the dualing pianos (which is a good time and show for sure!)
