Food, service and ambiance were all really great! We enjoyed our time and will definitely return. All of our meals were done well and the social hour was fun. Karaoke and dueling pianos offer great solutions for those looking to add entertainment to their experience.

We have been seeing this place and saying we are going to go one day. Well, we finally went on Valentine's Day and had a blast. All the staff including the owner were welcoming and kind. The owner came by after each portion of our meal and asked our honest opinions about everything. The music was nice and just the right volume and we got to hear some of the live piano before we left. The food was good. We had a few things for feedback but mostly they were preferences like we'd like more seasoning on the scallops. They were cooked well yet bland. Also, I ordered the steak medium and it was too cooked so I'll order medium rare next time. But that's with all restaurants you have to figure out which heat you want you steak. I will say I appreciated that they did pay attention to details like the veggies. I'm a true meat liver but the veggies were cooked to perfection where you still have a crunch to them and they seasoned perfectly. By the way everything else was seasoned well. I did not get a chance to try any wine but I did notice they have some familiar local wines that I like so that is awesome. I did however try the strawberry smash and it was tasty !! We will definitely be back. Oh and the portions were great we took food home and had full tummies!! FYI - I recently saw that they have karaoke and dueling pianos weekly!!

We came here on a Sunday for brunch. They have live jazz starting at around 11am. We ordered a mimosa, strawberry pancakes, blueberry pancakes, and the baked Brie. I didn't catch the name of our server but she has brown hair. Service was very friendly. She seemed to be the only one taking care of all the tables at that time. She checked up on us frequently. The baked Brie looks a bit like an empanada and is on top of a small pile of chopped figs. Very flaky and freshly baked. The mimosa was strong. Just a splash of orange juice. The pancakes were huge. Each pancake was probably about 7.5" inches in diameter. Our server was very nice and asked if we wanted anything extra like syrup. Go with the extra syrup. There wasn't a lot of berry compote for the last pancakes. We were in and out in about 40 minutes. The bill came out to about $60 before tip. Looking at the menu it seems it's more of a special occasion steakhouse than brunch.

I've heard mixed reviews about Makse, and decided to check them out for myself finally. I arrived for brunch on Friday around 11am, and there were only two other tables occupied; so it wasn't busy and I was seated immediately by Francesca the waitress. The inside has a nice decor with background and a stage with a piano and drum set. The three tables occupied, including mine, were seated next to the windows where we can look out to Main Street. Francesca was the only waitress working the tables, but she was very attentive and courteous to all of us. I started off with an Irish Latte and it was amazing! One of the best cocktails I've had in quite some time. I ordered some seared sea scallops as an appetizer; the scallops were cooked perfect, and honestly felt they could have stood on their own without the sauce. I went with the smash burger and fries for my entree. The quality of the beef patties and bacon were pretty good, but the burger sauce used I wasn't too crazy about. It was a bit excessive, and took away some flavor of the patties unfortunately. The fries were nice and crispy with a nice touch of salt. I was gonna give this Makse experience 3-stars, but I'm bumping it up to 4-stars for Francesca's friendly service and that Irish Latte cocktail. I probably wouldn't get the burger again, but I'd definitely come back to try another dish and the ambiance.

I have mentioned not judging a book by its cover and I mean it, do not trust Yelp and just trust your gut, take chances in places you would never, risk having a bad meal so you can enjoy the great meals. With that being said you have to try Mäksē restaurant in vacaville if you are in the area this is a fun little spot, with a almost speak easy vibe with great cocktails, amazing service to include the chef coming to the table and some fun creative dishes. Honestly I really enjoyed this place and it was out of my comfort zone... so even I can be pleasantly surprised every now and again.

Not a fan of it here. The service was horrible. They were out of their ice cream flavors, coffee and an array of other items. Our food took almost an hour to arrive and was very disappointing. It's unfortunate because they have a lot of potential here especially with the location but it's no surprise the restaurant was empty at 12 on a Sunday... we were given crème brûlée as compensation after our bad food which was also not great. Don't think I will be returning.

    Very expensive ice cream.
    Charlie G.

Apparently three small scoops of ice cream now costs $25. I wish someone had warned me before ordering. The ice cream was fine, but nothing special and definitely not worth that price. For that amount you'd expect something memorable. Instead it was just a very expensive cup of ice cream.

The ambience was great and very elegant. Although we didn't experience the live piano playing, we still enjoyed our time. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. I found my beef braised short ribs to be disappointing, but the mashed potatoes were full of flavor. My husband enjoyed his ribeye steak a lot. We look forward to returning for the dueling pianos on Saturday nights.

There were six of us, so we decided to order a few items from the larger-serving menu to share everything family style among us. Here is what we ordered (prices all as of June 2026): Picanha Steak Platter (served with White Rice, Black Beans, Farofa, Vinaigrette, and Chimichurri Sauce) $69.99: This was delicious and came with about five pieces of steak. What I liked most was that some of the fat was still attached to the meat, which added a ton of flavor. The White Rice was fluffy yet firm, with a subtle citrusy lime flavor that was really refreshing. The Black Beans were also tasty and savory from the sausage mixed in. Chef Special (Sliced Picanha) (served with White Rice and French Fries) $48.00: This was basically a "sliced" version of the other Picanha platter we ordered. The meat seemed leaner though, since I didn't notice any fatty pieces. Both dishes were good, and it really comes down to your personal preference on whether you enjoy a fattier cut or a leaner one. Ribeye Platter (served with White Rice, Black Beans, and Fried Polenta) $74.99: This was also very good, but several of us thought the Picanha had more flavor, so we ended up preferring that to this Ribeye. The service was pretty good, and the food presentation on hot plates was excellent. One thing to note is that the restaurant felt a bit stuffy from all the smoke coming off the hot plates, so just be aware of that as you may leave the restaurant smelling like grilled steak. There was also an additional 5% charge for credit card payments that they failed to mention until I noticed it on the bill and inquired about it. I would've much appreciated it if they had been more upfront and transparent about this fee instead of leaving us wonder and discover on our own this "supplement charge".

More of a sit down and enjoy yourself thing that Buckhorn with an older wooden feel to it. For kicks I started off with a Howdy Beer. Not sure who makes it, how epic it is or is not, nor any subtle notes of anything. It's a $4 can and it came with a nice cold glass. Potato skins, filled with the usual not-healthy-but-delicious goodness of bacon, cheese and green onions were perfect to start out. My Rodeo Burger was just as you'd expect from a steakhouse- wonderful beefy flavor with a rougher (larger?) texture than usual. So not like your average burger. Came with fried onions and sautéed mushrooms but we ordered a different burger (classic) so I put those onions on as well. Swiss cheese and peppercorn sauce made a great bite. Came with a load of fries and we subbed a salad for one of the orders. Didn't have any of the Raspberry Lemon Drop but heard no complaints about it either. They provided us with a supplementary gluten free menu so that was helpful. It's the place right off the freeway when heading to Sac/Tahoe from the bay and it's worth a stop. Dixon High School puts out a coupon book/card each year for a fee. This year the card costs $40 I believe so sure, throw in a bit for the Rams' seasons. Attached to the card came a cardboard ad/coupon page and there were two offers for $10 off of a $50 Cattlemen's purchase. So we used one of those. (Still have one more! Have to be sure to use it in the next 11 months) Left full with TONS of food to take home for a grand total of $49.93. They let it slide so a decent tip was left for our server.

The place serves authentic Thai dishes and it is best to share family style if you come with several people so that you can experience more dishes. Started with a Sake "Mohito". It was very good. Interesting thing is that it was served with two sauces, but the traditional peanut sauce but also a Thai Sweet Chili sauce. I decided to combine both sauces onto my Spring Rolls. Surprisingly, the two sauces complemented each other pretty well. The Yellow Curry was smooth and thick (not watery like some places). Rich is flavor. I can probably just eat some plain rice with just the curry sauce and I would be happy. It's that good. The Crispy Chicken with Ginger Rice was a crowd favorite as well. I also had to ask repeatedly for the Togo order and was left waiting on that then waited even longer with the waitress never coming back for the check. I had to end up walking inside and paying with a random person at the counter. My chicken was really good, and the mac and cheese was my favorite. It had a little kick to it and they make it with cavatappi noodles which is something I do. Our server, Jake, was very attentive and pleasant. I wanna know what was up with that horrible smell so I can decide if I wanna go back. I think the service, price, and food were good.

(I'd skip the fish tacos.) We had a baby and two dogs so sat down outside. They couldn't have been more accommodating. Also very willing to accommodate special food requests. Overall a lovely experience and we will definitely go back.

Back Door Bistro, Vacaville: 2026 Jul 10 (4.29 of 5)…read more Ladies Gathering!! The service here is a 4.5 of 5. We had different servers who attended to us and they're both friendly and looked cheerful. We got there towards the end of Happy Hour and was presented with their Happy Hour menu. The menu is small, easy to read and has almost everything we'd want for that time of day - including the drinks. The food is a 'hit' or 'miss'. Here's my review: Drinks: Both the Arnold Palmer and the Cadillac Margarita were good. My lemonade tea wasn't overly sweet and I could definitely taste the lemonade. The pitcher of Cadillac Margarita looks innocent but may give someone a slow and powerful buzz if you're not used to the drink. (4.75 of 5) Charcuterie: This a complete appetizer board. Overall, there were some hits and misses, however, we agreed this is a well thought out appetizer board. (4 of 5) Crispy Brussels Sprouts: This is the best dish here, featuring deeply caramelized, dark golden-brown edges and a nutty, earthy flavor. Their Crispy Brussels Sprouts is also the best we've had. The seasoning is on-point, allowing the texture to show off its crackling, crunchy bite on the outside, contrasted by a tender, melt-in-your-mouth interior. (5 of 5) Seasonal Tacos: "Oh WOW!" The explosion of spicy and tangy flavours balanced by contrasting textures makes this dish "pop". (4.75 of 5) Beet Salad: The colours were lovely, but this beet salad was over-salted. The vibrant dish featuring beets as the main ingredient, balances the earthy sweetness with contrasting textures and flavours. If this wasn't too salty, it would have been more refreshing. (3.75 of 5) Coconut Lime Bouillabaisse (halibut, jasmine rice, spinach, snap pea, pickled shiitake mushroom, coconut lime broth, basil oil): Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Bouillabaisse means seafood. The only seafood we noticed were chunks of halibut, which were delicious. This dish looks and tastes more like an elevated Thai soup dish that cost too much. (3.5 of 5) After walking in, we decided to sit outdoors because of the loud music that was playing. We're glad we did. The overhang on the veranda was well positioned with plants and flowers softening the cement walkway. The weather was pleasant - with a gentle breeze blowing down the corridor. Parking is easy if you arrive early enough. One last note: Back Door Bistro in Vacaville was featured on "Check, Please! Bay Area"
