We have been seeing this place and saying we are going to go one day. Well, we finally went on Valentine's Day and had a blast. All the staff including the owner were welcoming and kind. The owner came by after each portion of our meal and asked our honest opinions about everything. The music was nice and just the right volume and we got to hear some of the live piano before we left. The food was good. We had a few things for feedback but mostly they were preferences like we'd like more seasoning on the scallops. They were cooked well yet bland. Also, I ordered the steak medium and it was too cooked so I'll order medium rare next time. But that's with all restaurants you have to figure out which heat you want you steak. I will say I appreciated that they did pay attention to details like the veggies. I'm a true meat liver but the veggies were cooked to perfection where you still have a crunch to them and they seasoned perfectly. By the way everything else was seasoned well. I did not get a chance to try any wine but I did notice they have some familiar local wines that I like so that is awesome. I did however try the strawberry smash and it was tasty !! We will definitely be back. Oh and the portions were great we took food home and had full tummies!! FYI - I recently saw that they have karaoke and dueling pianos weekly!!

We came here on a Sunday for brunch. They have live jazz starting at around 11am. We ordered a mimosa, strawberry pancakes, blueberry pancakes, and the baked Brie. I didn't catch the name of our server but she has brown hair. Service was very friendly. She seemed to be the only one taking care of all the tables at that time. She checked up on us frequently. The baked Brie looks a bit like an empanada and is on top of a small pile of chopped figs. Very flaky and freshly baked. The mimosa was strong. Just a splash of orange juice. The pancakes were huge. Each pancake was probably about 7.5" inches in diameter. Our server was very nice and asked if we wanted anything extra like syrup. Go with the extra syrup. There wasn't a lot of berry compote for the last pancakes. We were in and out in about 40 minutes. The bill came out to about $60 before tip. Looking at the menu it seems it's more of a special occasion steakhouse than brunch.

Not a fan of it here. The service was horrible. They were out of their ice cream flavors, coffee and an array of other items. Our food took almost an hour to arrive and was very disappointing. It's unfortunate because they have a lot of potential here especially with the location but it's no surprise the restaurant was empty at 12 on a Sunday... we were given crème brûlée as compensation after our bad food which was also not great. Don't think I will be returning.

I've heard mixed reviews about Makse, and decided to check them out for myself finally. I arrived for brunch on Friday around 11am, and there were only two other tables occupied; so it wasn't busy and I was seated immediately by Francesca the waitress. The inside has a nice decor with background and a stage with a piano and drum set. The three tables occupied, including mine, were seated next to the windows where we can look out to Main Street. Francesca was the only waitress working the tables, but she was very attentive and courteous to all of us. I started off with an Irish Latte and it was amazing! One of the best cocktails I've had in quite some time. I ordered some seared sea scallops as an appetizer; the scallops were cooked perfect, and honestly felt they could have stood on their own without the sauce. I went with the smash burger and fries for my entree. The quality of the beef patties and bacon were pretty good, but the burger sauce used I wasn't too crazy about. It was a bit excessive, and took away some flavor of the patties unfortunately. The fries were nice and crispy with a nice touch of salt. I was gonna give this Makse experience 3-stars, but I'm bumping it up to 4-stars for Francesca's friendly service and that Irish Latte cocktail. I probably wouldn't get the burger again, but I'd definitely come back to try another dish and the ambiance.

I have mentioned not judging a book by its cover and I mean it, do not trust Yelp and just trust your gut, take chances in places you would never, risk having a bad meal so you can enjoy the great meals. With that being said you have to try Mäksē restaurant in vacaville if you are in the area this is a fun little spot, with a almost speak easy vibe with great cocktails, amazing service to include the chef coming to the table and some fun creative dishes. Honestly I really enjoyed this place and it was out of my comfort zone... so even I can be pleasantly surprised every now and again.

    Very expensive ice cream.
    Charlie G.

Apparently three small scoops of ice cream now costs $25. I wish someone had warned me before ordering. The ice cream was fine, but nothing special and definitely not worth that price. For that amount you'd expect something memorable. Instead it was just a very expensive cup of ice cream.

The ambience was great and very elegant. Although we didn't experience the live piano playing, we still enjoyed our time. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. I found my beef braised short ribs to be disappointing, but the mashed potatoes were full of flavor. My husband enjoyed his ribeye steak a lot. We look forward to returning for the dueling pianos on Saturday nights.

We love strolling around downtown Vacaville, and Makse caught our eye as a nice spot. We decided to stop in for a cocktail and ordered a couple of Old fashions, which were well-made and enjoyable. However, as we're plant-based, we didn't find much on the menu for us beyond fries or a side salad, which we don't consider a full dinner option. That said, Makse is a great place to meet up with friends for drinks, and we'd come back for the atmosphere and cocktails.

Nice location, ample parking in walking distance. Variety of appetizers were a hit for our group. Enjoyed the service and the intimate vibe of the place. Will definitely the other options on the menu at a returning visit.

Hair found in my salad (removed from salad plate and put on a different dish, hence the shrimp).

Really disappointing experience at Makse Restaurant, especially for the price point. Service was extremely slow -- my husband had to ask four separate times over about 20 minutes before finally receiving a beer. We were also given a dirty appetizer plate, and later there was a hair in my salad. The menu description was also misleading. The 'beet salad with goat cheese and candied walnuts' turned out to be mostly sliced beets and a round of goat cheese with only a very small amount of lettuce, which was surprising given the description and price. Should probably be listed as an appetizer, sliced beets and goat cheese, not a salad. My husband ordered the ribeye and it was really yummy and cooked well (med rare). The beats were good until I found the surprise lol. Overall, the staff was polite, but overall the experience felt chaotic (several dishes broke in the background) and below basic expectations for cleanliness and service.

Key lime pie martini and Kahlua and coffee.

I had the best Filet Mignon I've ever had. It was like butter, it was so tender. The cocktails were delicious. Menu choices were awesome. My husband had the short ribs and mashed potatoes. The ambiance was lovely with Rat Pack music, appetizers and wonderful desserts. I'll be back... possibly next week.

On Friday around 5:30pm we were able to find parking out front on the street. You go in a side entrance which has a few outdoor tables and when you walk in, if you go right there is a bar area and left is the restaurant area. Looks like a place that families and older couples like to eat. We got there a little early so asked for a table for four. We were seated in about 5 minutes and while waiting for our friends ordered a drink. They offer beer, wine and cocktails. They have a large menu and have specials also. I ordered the Pear Collins and hubby had a beer. Once our friends arrived our waitress took our orders. We started with the Tequila Grilled Prawns and the World Famous Calamari. I ordered the Beet and Goat Cheese Salad and hubby had the Chicken Asiago Fettuccine. Our friend ordered the Pork Chop. The pork chop was huge and she said it was delicious. Hubby liked the pasta but although there was plenty of salad and beets, there was just a big glob of sour cream on top. Service was good and our waitress was very friendly and took good care of us.

I told them that I don't think our friends would want to come back and declined the offer but I wanted to be clear that my issue is based on the service. Told her I was a former waitress and food reviewer, I received no response back. Dear Merchant Team, I wanted to share my experience from my visit this past Saturday with a party of four. It was our first time dining at Merchant, and while we enjoyed the brunch overall, I was disappointed with the portion size of the chicken fried steak. It was surprisingly small--about the size of my cell phone--which was not what we expected based on our previous experiences at other establishments. Additionally, the service during our visit was below expectations. It took approximately 30 minutes for our server to initially take our order, and we were not offered a full range of beverage options beyond champagne and cider. After informing the server that I do not drink alcohol and have an allergy to cider, there was no follow-up or alternative suggestion provided. We chose Merchant based on the fantastic reviews we read, so this experience was quite disappointing for us. Thank you for taking the time to review this feedback.

Then in the center where the conveyor belt is, you can walk around to it and pick up plates that you want to try. It mostly seemed like nigiri and rolls that they were commonly making. In the center, the chef station is between the conveyor belt area and there you can order more specific items you want to try like a roll, sashimi or handrolls.
