During our 6 day vacation, we came here 3 times we loved it so much. The cheap happy hour beers and the service had us coming back for more. It's such an odd location, but yet so convenient. It's located on the back side of a small parking lot. Because it's a small lot, you may have a difficult time finding a spot, but we were lucky each time. This is an open air, small bar with a few tables and then seats up at the bar. There's lot of eclectic items hung around the bar to look at. The bartenders talked to us like we were locals and had been coming there forever. It truly felt like we were home and a local islander. We had some appetizers while there which were good, but they are your typical fried bar foods. The atmosphere is different and nice. They also played great music here! The bathrooms are connected on the side of the building and seem to be open for use by any passerby's. They also are a little dirty, but hey, it's an island! Go for the cheap drinks and chat with the locals. read more

We popped in late with a large group and they were very nice and accommodating. The girl that helped us was patient and fast to bring food and drinks. Bergers were delicious and atmosphere was very chill with a beach vibe. Great sound system too. read more

Just your average tourist trap bar with lots of fried food and beer that your dad would drink. I want to give our server the benefit of doubt, but I feel like we got baited and switched. Well I have no choice but to give this place 5 stars. My husband and I spent 5 days on St John, and our last night before flying home in Red Hook. In 5 days we hadn't purchased one souvenir (who needs more than photos?)...and then, Duffy's happened. My first drink happened to be served in a lovely parrot glass...THAT I GET TO KEEP! So of course we did what any two responsible adults would do- sit there and order all the drinks on the menu that came with souvenir glasses. We have a nice collection to go home with! This is a "night life" experience and they are not joking when they say it is in a parking lot. The history is cool and you can feel how much love everyone has for the vibe. We went there around 9pm on a Saturday and it was a full blown party! From locals to bachelorette parties. The drinks are FUN. They are all different kinds and they all come in different cups or even inside pineapples! We only got the lava bowl of guacamole from the menu and it was decent. I have great memories of my time at Duffy's Love Shack. This is exactly this kind of place I pictured going to in St. Thomas. A quaint, little shack in the middle of town with tasty conch fritters, divine tiki drinks and lots of local flare. The chef takes a lot of pride in her food and I appreciate that you can find some of the island delicacies here for half the price of other restaurants. Best part of our time here: The chef's boyfriend offering us the "shark shots" from his two drinks, saying he always give his shots to a visiting couple at the bar. I mean - it's a fun time so you should check this place out. It really is a must stop in red hook, even if it's just to say you did. Just don't go in expecting more than what it is - a bar in a parking lot! Ordered the chips and guacamole and that helped us to realize we shouldn't eat there. The chips were so stale and the guac did not taste fresh at all. The drinks are strong - so if that's what you're looking for, this is your spot. I prefer less intense drinks so I went for the less alcohol more blended variety and was normally pretty happy. I did like that they had a bunch of hilarious cups you could get your drinks in and I started collecting the different cups. I was ultra disappointed though because I wanted to take home said ridiculous cups the drinks came in and when I got to the pineapple whatever drink, they were out of the special cup for it. "No big!" I say. "Just put it in another fun cup!" And the bartender absolutely refused. He said he would get in trouble from the owner if he poured the wrong drink in a cup, even if they are out of the correct cup! So I got the drink, without the collectible cup, full of sadness and heartbreak. What a bad policy that you are actively going to turn away my money just to protect some weird cup/drink standard. Saw this on line and decided I had to do like my predecessors and check this out. It's a no thrill hole in the wall drinking spot with a bohemian and don't care attitude. Went there after lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Bartender was pleasant and personable, but the things tourists may find cute and unusual, chickens in the bar was anything but. I found that unsanitary. 1 may be cool but more than 5? While some are dining...? Nah I'm good. Drinks were ok. I got the bushwhacker. Maybe I didn't get the best one there is to offer, but I don't see why this was even recommended. Won't be going back. Like I said, maybe I'm missing something but I didn't see the appeal. read more

The waiter was rude, was charged for food we didn't get and then they added a 20% tip on top, for a party of 5,on top of the LOUSY service. They just didn't care when asked about it. I have been to this place multiple times and was very excited to bring my friends here this evening. What an unfortunate let down. The place was not exceptionally busy or understaffed, but the service was just plain bad. We ordered a round of drinks and an appetizer. The waiter did not return to check on us or take our dinner order. We finally had to go ask someone at the bar about ordering food, and they said they'd send the waiter out. Several minutes later he stopped at another table, talked a minute or two, then asked what we'd like to order. He did not acknowledge the fact that he had essentially neglected us (except for when he started swearing because we were served the appetizer that we ordered rather than it going to another table). At that point we were done. Going to be hard to recommend Duffy's again after this. read more

I called a half hour before to order and the phone went to automated service and said they don't answer the phone during dinner time. When I got there a half hour afterwards, I tried for 15 minutes to get the bartenders attention who's name is Jill. She blatantly ignored me like I wasn't even there, I went to the chef they told me they didn't get any calls from the bartender, so they told me to go to the bartender to find out if they place the order. To get the bartenders attention I ended up screaming and waving my hands in the air. When she came "I asked her did you put in my order" which I called in, and she told me don't scream at her. She then called another guy bartender told him what the situation was and he asked me where in St. Thomas does a phone ring in a restaurant and they answer it. I personally feel they're discriminating, due to the fact they were only serving Caucasians. When the pandemic was here, no Caucasians just locals were here, the service was great then. St. Thomas has pretty expensive food, and this was one of the only places that had reasonable prices. We really enjoyed the vibe here (looked like the most local/fun restaurant in the red hook area), but food was so-so. We came just in time for a live band, and had a lot of fun listening to the music while eating. Service was kind of slow (Island time), but waiters and waitresses were all really kind. If you pay a few dollars extra, you get to keep the cup the drink comes in (there was a parrot cup and coconut cup). Mango colada drink was pretty strong, and food was very asian inspired (chicken skewers with peanut sauce, pupu platter, fried shumai, dumplings). Mahi mahi tacos and mahi mahi burger was pretty dry, but the spicy (Buffalo) wings were pretty on point. Conch fritters were delicious. Some tables were inside, some were outside. We decided to sit outside to see the band, then realized we were literally sitting in the parking lot of the food/shopping plaza. So... We were so excited about going to this place after reading the reviews. This is a group review and we all negotiated about the rating. We're giving it two stars because the food was for the most part good. The fish was fresh and the Caesar salad was tasty. The Polynesian Pupu platter was decent except for the wings, which were extremely gooey. Guacamole and chips were decent. Virgin piña coladas for the kids were good. Son liked the chicken nuggets. However... we sat down at first near a large speaker and realized it was way too loud to eat a meal. We asked to be moved, but it was next to another speaker. We looked around and realized there was no place that wasn't near a large speaker. We did request that they turn the music down but we were told they can't do that. We should have just left. The playlist was actually very good but it was so very loud, we could not even have a conversation. We were screaming at each other and it started getting everybody cranky because no one understood what anyone else was saying. So we resorted to a group text. But the teenagers at this point were getting very cranky and in their words, "overstimulated." It's hard to tell how the experience would've been if we hadn't had our ears blown out. The kids left early with food on the table so that they could go sit in the small hot car where it was quiet. read more

I can deal with decent service, but horrible service is an issue for me, thus prompting this former elite reviewer to write this review after 8 years of inactivity. First, the location of this restaurant was in a parking lot. Terrible ambiance. We came for lobster Wednesday and was served by a tall, gangly woman who appeared as if she couldn't wait for her next smoke break. The lobster was overcooked, but decent. Of course, we had to wait an extra 10 minutes for our butter and sides after the lobster was served to us bc she forgot that too. She also forgot the ketchup for our fries. She also didn't bring one of my parties entrees. Poor guy was starving and didn't want the rest of us to wait after we already waited 75 minutes in line. The nachos and the Chili fries were subpar. Overall, I give the food a 6.5 and the service a 0. Service means a lot. Businesses need to respect that. read more

If I could give a 0, I would. My friends and I (4 people) went to have lunch before our flight because we read and heard many great things about this spot. Upon arrival, we were not acknowledged. We stood outside and had to grab a waiters attention. We asked if we could be seated? And the response was "No, we don't have seats available". We then asked how long would the wait be? The response was 30-40 minutes. Soon after, a couple who are white, were immediately acknowledge and seated. Now, I understand the difference between 2 and 4 people, but the fact that there was no acknowledgement or courtesy provided upon our arrival demonstrates the type of clientele they prefer to serve... white. And this is not an assumption, it's an observation. Everyone who is currently seated as a write this is white. If you ever are in the Red Hook area, please visit HOOK'D or AGAVE.
