The BBQ is good, very similar to Rudy's with a New Mexico twist meaning green chile available. It's nice inside, plenty of seating and it's very clean. The lighting is nice. Overall experience was very positive. BBQ can be a little pricey so the quality and the experience can't be a miss. This place is worth the try. The beauty of making a dinner mistake, is rectifying that mistake. The night before going to dinner with my family (she chose a different restaurant). Needless to say it was regrettable. I took the lone trip to DUKE CITY BBQ. Not having much time I ordered the 505 potatoe topped with the green chili sausage. It didn't disappoint. Presentation, smell and taste. Nailed all the attributes I seek. I've yet to meet any green chili here in New Mexico to knock me. This didn't but it had to beat flavor so far. It's split and smothered with beans similar to baked beans without the sweetness. The perfect amount of sausage dress the papa. Cheddar cheese sprinkled across the top with a drizzle of creamer. Topping this giant papa is toreado (jalapeno). A meal of beauty. Top to bottom no flaw. I also ordered the torpedo. A bacon wrapped jalapeno stuffed with pulled pork. Love it!!! I was offered a sample of their ribs. Pit masters kiss on the rib! I wish I had ordered that! Smoky, delicious, tender and hit wonderfully without any sauce. The rib was in my opinion executed perfectly. I honestly wish I had more time to try all the wonderful menu items here. I hope to in the near future, when I visit again. Service was courteous and professional. The young lady (Lupita) made great recommendations and provided me with comfort & awesome service on my visit. IMHO good bbq in ABQ is almost impossible to find. This place came recommended by a friend. We were in the area so decided to give it a try. Small store, kinda plain (of course I don't need frills for good bbqorder at the counter and wait for the food. Not busy, but got busy shortly after we got here. Lots of choices on the menu board. Since I'm a beef guy, the one meat combo with brisket & cream corn for the bill. We also got a 2 meat combo with regular sausage & brisket and potato salad. The brisket was moist with a nice bark and loads of flavor. The sausage was equally delicious with great flavor. Tasted like there was a little cheese added. This was the driest brisket I have ever had in my life. I had to refill my cup twice just to get it down lol. Jalapeño sausage tasted like it was reheated in a microwave. First time here. Place was busy for a Friday evening. We ordered the 505 Stuffed Potato (Turkey). 2 Meat Combo (Brisket & Pork Belly) 1/2 pound of Pulled l Pork and Turkey. Sides were Mac n Cheese, Creamed Corn and Okra. The 505 was big, filling and very tasty. The Pork Belly was good as was the moist brisket but lacked salt. The stars were by far the Turkey and Okra. I grew up on BBQ in Texas so I'm always ready to eat anything BBQ. I stopped in on Sunday at 4:45 pm and it wasn't crowded at all. But a line had formed by the time I left. I usually go to another place but thought I'd give it a try and go it To Go since I'd read the good Yelp reviews. I ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich w a Cold Slaw side and Banana Pudding for desert. The Pulled Pork sandwich was very good but the Slaw was a big disappointment. It was more like a "carrot" salad because of all the sweet ingredients like raisins or cranberries, pineapple, and extra dressing. It was more sweet so it didn't taste anything like any Cold Slaw I'd ever eaten. It was mushy (old) and not crispy (fresh). After a few bites to get acclimated to the taste - I couldn't eat anymore. I would never order it again. I tried the Banana Pudding and it was pretty good. It even had a slice of banana in it so I ate all my puddin'. They had a pretty good menu so I'll probably try again and order something different. I did feel the prices were a bit high. The staff were very nice. The interiors were very plain, clean and quiet. If you are a real BBQ lover and have been fortunate enough to experience BBQ in places like Memphis, TN, or Texas, do not come here. The staff was friendly, but the food was awful. I ordered a smoked sausage sandwich and the Carolina BBQ with two sides. My first side was creamed corn, and my second side was the BBQ baked beans. The creamed corn looked like clam chowder -- it was way more cream than corn and resembled a thick soup (hence the clam chowder reference). The BBQ beans were just disgusting. I will never step foot in this establishment again, and I don't recommend anyone else who enjoys BBQ to do so. It was just a terrible experience, and I spent about $25. Not to mention, I ended up throwing up about an hour or so after consuming my meal. Nice people working there, but the food is disgusting. If you don't know much about BBQ and have low standards, this is the place for you. But for a person who has experienced really good BBQ at a cookout or a place notorious for their BBQ, I 10/10 do not recommend you come here. Because my son loves bbq and today was his birthday I wanted to take him to a good bbq place. 3 or 4 bbq places constantly come up when I research the best in Albuquerque and Duke City bbq is one of them. I got my daughter the loaded 505 potato and it looked to be really good. I asked her about it and she said it was mid haha, she's just spoiled by the huge portions at Greg's bbq in Belen. Anyways I had the 3 meat combo with 2 sides. I had pulled pork, brisket and turkey with potato salad and fried okra. When the food came out it looked like really small portions but after I unwrapped the meats it wasn't too bad. I believe the 3 meat combo is 1/4 lb servings of each meat. The fried okra is some of the best I've tried anywhere, it was delicious. The potato salad was ok. My brisket was juicy and the pulled pork was really good. The turkey was a little peppery but it was all delicious because the have a bbq dispenser and you can add all the bbq sauce you want!!! Awesome. My son had French fries and mac and cheese on his combo and the fries were crispy and delicious. The Mac and cheese was delicious, white cheddar Mac I think. The place wasn't too busy yet as we were there about 11:30 in the morning. Plenty of seating. I'll definitely come back another time. We went for lunch on a weekday. Ordered at the counter and food was brought to table. At the table, the following items were ordered... brisket sandwich, chicken, fried okra, French fries, corn on the cob, creamed corn, sweet tea to drink. The chicken comes on the bone and there was not a lot id meat. I normally share with my 3 year old and this was not a truly shareable portion... the brisket sandwich was huge though and that had plenty of meat to share. I thought the brisket was better than the chicken. The creamed corn was more cream than corn which some may enjoy. The fries were delicious and they come with super tasty homemade ranch. They have bbq sauce available at a station with other condiments. Regular and spicy bbq sauce... the spicy is truly spicy. Both were good. The sweet tea was good. I'm from Alabama and lived in Texas so I've had a lot of bbq. This place was the best I've had out west! Would definitely go again! Seating was open and available. Pretty decent place. They keep most of the meat in a smoker up front. Order at counter and then wait. The brisket was tender and the bark was great. Top Line: A mad scramble for smoked BBQ ensued when a few of my usual go-to's came up as closed on Tuesdays and I'd too casually hoisted the idea of Texas style BBQ onto the radar in the presence of a certain dining partner. After several rounds of badgering Google for options we came upon Duke City BBQ, which I'd never heard of before. So it was a moral obligation to check them out. (See location & similarly named eatery as noted below to avoid driving around & around like I did.) Exiting the car in front of Duke City BBQ building we were immediately wrapped in smoke aroma. That is always good news!!! Upon entering we were enthusiastically welcomed, as are all customers. Sample bite of brisket brought SERIOUS smoke & prominent black pepper flavor. Partner ordered brisket platter with BBQ beans, and a +1 of cream style corn. I opted for pulled pork sandwich, cole slaw, & corn on the cob. Sweet tea is my obligatory drink in BBQ joints. All food at Duke City BBQ was exceptional. Strong smoke flavoring on the meats. Pulled pork in sandwich was very tender & moist, and of bountiful portion! Toasted bun was soft & toothy and well sturdy enough to handle the massive meat & sauce load. Cob corn was tender & luscious with butter flavor. Cole slaw had cranberries & pineapple making for unusual (in a good way) taste & texture. BBQ beans with shredded meat brought complex sweet & peppery notes. But it was the *CREAM STYLE CORN* that blew us away. Sauce was like a buttery white gravy. So creamy, rich, complex, just incredible!!! Whole kernel ambrosia dazzling the palate. Don't overlook that particular side dish because your history with cream style corn has been bland. This ain't yo' Grandma's cream style corn. Duke City BBQ restaurant is a new eatery (not to be confused with Duke City Barbecue apparently located nearby) that's been open about three weeks as of late January 2023. They are located on the east side of San Mateo Blvd across from Cliff's Amusement Park. There's a bit of dogleg dipsy-doodle getting off of northbound San Mateo Blvd into the mini strip mall parking lot where they're located. I love BBQ, but I don't like change so I never wanted to try a new place to fulfill my BBQ desires. However, I was so glad I gave Duke City BBQ a try this evening. I ordered the brisket sandwich and creamed corn, and quite frankly, the sandwich was incredible! The meat was flavorful with a crusted pepper kick, and the bun was perfect. The creamed corn also was very tasty and a nice consistency. I also was able to try some of the turkey---ordered for others in my group---and it was just as memorable as the brisket. I topped off my meal with banana pudding for dessert, and it was satisfying and reasonably priced. You order at the counter at this place. Or, you can take advantage of their online ordering system, which is what I did to save some time. Duke City BBQ is in a strip center that has plenty of parking. I didn't eat inside, but it looked clean and comfortable. They do have serve yourself beverages, and a condiment station with their BBQ sauces, pickles, onions, and more.
