    Mama burger combo
    Marie S.

Came here yesterday as a promotion from the Husband and Wife Law Firm (they covered $15 per person). I got the mama burger combo (6 oz patty) with fries and a drink. Staff was friendly. They had a condiment bar and free homemade salsa and chips while I waited (took a little over 15 min for my order to come out). I added green chile and cheese to the burger, which was juicy. The fries were good, but I like my fries a little more crisp. The parking spots were a little tight and the place itself was a little hard to find at first (tucked away in the corner). It's a big place with lots of cool decor. 2026 #3

This is a half-pound burger with added green chile (I think it was $.79) and American Cheese (I think it was a buck). Fries were not great.

Kinda more 3.75 stars . . . 3.9?. I've been coming here for years, and it's always a pleasant experience - and never one that calls me to rush back. Utterly clean - you'll never get sick here. GREAT service - super-nice people. Order at the counter, pay and tip (you'll want to tip; they're all just lovely people and they hustle around checking on folks constantly - never rushing you in any way at all) and then sit down - after you stop by the chips and salsa bar and go fill up your own drink - they'll call you to come get it when it's ready . . . then you go over to the condiment bar and put on your fixins. (Okay, this makes it sound like you _shouldn't_ tip (since you're doing essentially all of the server's work) . . . but, trust me, you should. You'll like how on top of things they all are. Plus, when you tip, they ring a bell and everyone working shouts a "Thank-you!," which is nice and kinda sweet. FWIW: I put a ten on $31-something today, and I'm glad I did.) Anyhow, the whole deal about this place is that it's a kitschy, "regular folks" place with a simple menu that's reasonably priced - and it has a mesquite grill. The food is fresh and cooked to order and the condiments/chips & salsa bar is always clean, fresh and orderly. Big tables for big groups, little tables, booths . . . it's a big space and folks like it a lot (constant stream of diners and carry-outs). They have burgers (three - ? - sizes), hot dogs, chicken and ribeyes (don't bring your vegan nephew, eh?). A half-pound burger is $10. Add cheese or green chile (you'd be crazy not to do so - they have solid green chile) and the price goes up. Add a drink and the price goes up. A combo (drink and fries added to the sandwich) adds $4. (An aside: don't waste your calories on the fries - I rarely waste any food at all, but left more than half my fries today.) The chips (large, fresh) and salsa (good, homemade and fresh) are included in the price (and some customers were going a little nuts on these). You get your own drinks so you control how much you drink. The burger itself - ay - it's fine. A lot of mesquite flavor, but kind of more of a rubbery chew on the meat than I want. The buns are fresh and the condiments and fixins are fresh and the chile is hot and the smoke on the meat is good . . . it's just that the burger itself never quite hits me in the "That's a mighty tasty burger!" I've had the ribeye (presently $30, including side) twice before, also; it's certainly a lot of ribeye for the money, but not one I am looking to repeat anytime soon. I've had the hot dog before - same story as with the burger (everything but the meat itself is pretty solid). I've not had the chicken. So . . . where are we at? Well, when friends want to meet me at The Grill on San Mateo, I always agree and I always have a nice time. I pretty much never suggest the place, though. I'm going to call it a 4-star ("Good") here on Yelp although nuance would indicate my real-world estimation of the place is just slightly under that.

Delicious cheeseburger, not enough fries..... I was charged six dollars for these fries!!!

Excellent burger, cool decor, friendly staff. The cheeseburger was very well cooked and had great flavor. Not enough fries, though. My bill before tip was $16.65.... The burger was $9.95 which means I was charged $6.70 for a very small handful of fries. No bueno.

Medium burger and this is the amount of fries I got I had not touched them yet.

I ordered a burger and my husband a steak w/veggies. The flavor was good. Food was fresh to order. The bathroom was clean! Service was great everyone as very nice. I think the price was expensive (60.00) the condiments are in the middle of the restaurant and so you have to wash your hands after using them because they are sticky. It was packed it looks smaller from the outside but it's way bigger inside. The price maybe expensive since at Texas road house we would have paid 40.00 for both and large sides. These were a lot smaller. But in all it was good.

The green chili cheese burger was absolutely amazing. I'd drive back to Albuquerque just for that burger.

One of the top three burgers I've ever eaten. The service was great. They had live music the night we went. They were playing oldies and the older crowd was having a ball.

The reviews don't lie! This is a great choice for lunch or dinner, preferably dinner because coming on a Saturday night, they had a band :) They attract a diverse crowd of mostly older people. However, there were young couples and families too! The food is of course cooked on a grill! And you can see them cooking when you order. Like other reviewers say, it is clean and I was impressed with the bathroom setup.

I absolutely love everything about this place! When you walk in they have an old fashion theme. Sometimes they have live music playing. Their food and service are amazing!! There's 3 different sizes of burgers I usually get the 4 ounce so I can eat other stuff they have. They have self serve chips and salsa. The salsa is super delicious! Their fried zucchini hits the spot! One of my favorite things they have! The actually grill they have in the back is super iconic and what makes everything so flavorful! Overall a hidden gem! If you haven't been here you're missing out!!

We hated it!!! Hahahaha. We devoured every morsel.

Found the green chile cheese burger jackpot. What a fun place and the burgers were delicioso. Owner is super friendly and welcoming. In fact, everyone in there was super friendly and fun. This is our new go to when in Abq.

He walked away as I approached the counter. I was confused as I wasn't aware I had to order on the tablet on the counter. When I began using the tablet I was in search of the new mushroom burger they sent me an email yesterday about. Of course you know it's what I wanted to try. Sadly it wasn't on the menu on the tablet. When I called the employee for help I basically got the vibe he didn't want to be there and he was hesitant to approach. When he did come to the counter I asked about the burger even showed him the email to get told it's not out yet and it was coming soon. I found myself wondering why I even got the email if this was true. Needless to say the food came out really fast. I thought well that's good at least. The presentation was better than the experience. The cheese on the queso fries was pretty skimpy. There were way more fries than cheese which was disappointing. The burger I wasn't a fan of either. It needed more cheese and the stackers sauce tasted strange like it a chipotle sauce it wasn't the same as I recalled. I'm sad to say this is the second location I've had a bad experience with. It's really disappointing because I really loved this place. I guess I'll have to stick to the central food hall because so far that's the only location that hasn't disappointed me like this yet.

I peruse the menu, another customer drops their shake. Gonna be longer. That's fine, go help them. "No, I can take your order REALLY FAST." Well, I was looking at the menu, but cool to be rushed. I remember when the young lady that used to work there was at the counter. 6-8 people in line, greeted with a smile and Hi! Welcome in! There was a longer wait, but it was ok, because the service was good, and so was the food. Today? I'll never return. I spent over $15.00 including a credit card surcharge (a business owner that wants to take credit cards but can't be bothered to be a business owner and pay their bills.) I left a $5 cash tip - I figured I'd the business owner can't pay the 3% on a bad merchant account, they most likely aren't paying the staff livable wages... I sat down and put my gear down, and waited... for about 15 minutes, before this garbage salad that was falsely advertised as having toppings and 3 sliced chick'n strips. The entire salad didn't fill the bowl.? On the bottom were less than a teaspoon of diced tomatoes. In the entire salad there was ONE "fried onion." The lettuce was chopped like slop, there was barely enough chick'n to call it 1.5 slices. Absolute trash. For 15$ I ate my salad, listening as Morticia Addams' understudy pleasantly said good bye, have a nice day, et cetera to the customers who were leaving. I got up, threw my trash, walked out. Silence: The whole time I was in there, a cheap speaker was streaming some crappy 90s "radio friendly hip hop." When my salad was brought to me, even after explaining it's very hard to eat, or carry , a salad on a motorcycle, it arrived in a to-go/carry out, lid is RIGHT THERE,.Morticia helpfully pointed it out, a subtle hint that I wasn't a welcome guest. As I was gearing up to get on my motorcycle out comes our antagonist. Not to be polite or anything. To smoke or vape. I didn't stick around to smell which one she was doing in the doorway. I get it, lucky goose doesn't want my money. They've made it abundantly clear. That's fine. I'll go to Steelbender, where they have vegan options, and like that customers come on to give them money. I accidentally posted this review to the uptown location. I've never been, and will never be, to that location. This review was the knob hill location.

She also seemed very distracted and did not have good recall when we were putting in our orders. She came back several times to ask what our drink orders were before finally bringing over the tablet to enter in the information right in front of us. Secondly, our food took forever to come. This also happened the first time we came to eat at social house a year ago, but it felt more pronounced this time. And the restaurant was not full. Probably a third full of patrons? We were seated at 6:45 and our food did not arrive until 830. Quite the wait if you ask me. Finally, the kitchen was having some sort of smoke issue. If you've never been in an establishment where the grease smell and smoke is visibly accumulating in the air, you know it's quite distracting from a dining experience. It was so smoky inside. I actually caught myself blinking my eyes to see if it was just my vision being blurry or if it was the room. Our food was fine, the pork belly was a standout. Otherwise, I'm not sure I need to come here again. I wish that they would get a better handle on service timing, because that seems to be an ongoing issue.
