You looking for great BBQ, southern hospitality and good company? Duke's is your place. Lemme share my story. We're driving through on our way to H-town and found Duke's on the Yelp app... as per our usual. You never eat bad this way. We found Duke's but realized that they only take cash or check. No worries, my partner left to grab cash while I finished ordering. Duke's amazing staff (kind woman who recently had a birthday - happy belated bella!) brought our order to me, packaged up and ready to go... all before we even paid. 15 minutes passed, them 20, getting close to 30. So, I texted to get the scoop. ATM hell. He's on location number 3 and not feeling hopeful. So, I can be creative. I asked the customers (one couple and one gentleman) in Duke's if anyone had a PayPal account and Angel said she did. She and Gabriel were waiting patiently on their order to arrive and without thinking twice, offered to pay for our meal. Wow. I was hoping to send dollars via PayPal and take care of our check that way. How kind! Meanwhile, my guy finds success with ATM number 3 and texts that he's on his way back with cash. Woot. We returned the kindness and instead paid for the couple's order who offered to pay for ours. And the remaining customer shared that he, too, would've helped out: "That's how neighbors are here. Duke is like that too." He wished ya safe travels and if that weren't enough, the young woman who took out order also shared being happy to take the $9 I had originally in exchange for the bill. Good folks here. Good BBQ. We enjoyed our sandwiches and were so taken with the good hearted folks that I forgot to take pics of the food. Added some of the interior and exterior. Super friendly. Wow. Hugged the staff, said thanks again and they wished us safe travels to Houston. We were just with family. Gotta love Texas.

It was my first time trying it . I ordered a bake potatoes extra cheese with moist brisket on side . When I got home the potato you can tell was old and it was microwave... The brisket was cold . The only thing was hot was the bbq sauce . But the staff was very nice . Would I go back .. NO !!

5 star alert! deep in the heart of Cleveland Texas, you'll find dukes barbecue. Don't let outside fool you, this is a must try! Service: The owner is extremely nice, he goes out of his way to make you feel like family. There really fast and they check on you constantly to make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your meal. Food: I got the brisket with ribs and it was just phenomenal. All two meat plates come with potato salad and beans. The brisket is amazing, extremely tender and full of flavor. I also got the ribs and they were equally good and full of flavor as well. The sauce is extremely good, kind of sweet but amazing. The beans are to Die for. I normally don't even like beans but these beans are amazing! The potato salad is really good as well. Next time I'm in Cleveland I will definitely stop by Dukes for some amazing barbecue and I really would like to try the sausage. Keep up the great work Dukes you guys really know how to barbecue.

Do not let the outside or interior fool you, this is good bbq. We got the family pack (2kbs of meat, 3 sides, and bread). We went with the brisket and sausage for the meats. The brisket was outstanding. While I have had better, it was very good and Smokey (the bbq sauce they make pairs really well here). The star of the meat was the Texas sausage. After eating this, there's no doubt in my mind that this is housemade sausage. We got the regular but they had other flavors to choose from (jalapeno and cheese etc.). This is hands down the best Texas sausage that I've had. Onto the sides, do not sleep on them. They all tasted as though they are 100% made from scratch. The beans were amazing and had ground breakfast sausage in them. A bit on the sweet side but very vey good. The chicken and dumplings were amazing and contained large pieces of chicken (fresh) with large dumplings. The potato salad is exactly how I like it. It's mashed rather than cubed into pieces with seasoning and mustard. They also had an array of other items on the menu as well as some desserts. I will 100% be back to this family owned establishment.

After dining here, it's pretty obvious that alot of their food items are pre-cooked. It doesn't mean they're bad, or not fresh, it just means they like to prep to ensure their customers receive food in a timely manner. It is a little ironic though since they have a sign inside the dining room stating "Good food ain't fast and fast food aint good!". They do have a small prep area / kitchen to make meals, but it has short ceilings, limited space, and no vent hoods for exhausting steam/smoke. There are 2 microwaves in the kitchen area, if that gives you any idea. Not sure they even have an oven in their kitchen. The dining area is a beachy, tropical theme to fit the name "The Big Kahuna". Their menu is pretty simple, 2 pages with burgers and salads being their specialty. However, they have a weekly steam table special which consists of a meat, 2 sides and a roll for about $10. They also serve bbq, and some Mexican food and even chicken fried steak. Since they seem to specialize in burgers, I ordered a burger. Just traditional burgers here, no fancy toppings. The handformed patty is about 1/3 lb, and comes standard with mayo, lettuce and tomato, served on a Hawaiian sweet bun. I ordered their highly touted fresh cut French fries, which are a la carte and good. Portion size of the fries was a little on the small size. Overall I enjoyed this meal since the taste of the burger and fries were actually good. They didn't ask how you want your burger cooked though, which makes sense since it's a pre cooked patty. How do I know this? Because the burger came out less than 5 mins after ordering from the waitress, and was cooked at least medium well...faster than even some fast food restaurants I've visited lately! They do not have cheddar cheese, just some shredded American cheese blend, so no cheese for me. I did add bacon to my burger, and they initially forgot to add it after bringing the plate to my table. Luckily they remembered though, asked for the plate back, and placed it on the burger. Another complaint is that the bacon is crumbles, not strips. They apparently don't cook the bacon fresh and seemingly use a pre-packaged, pre-cooked product which was pretty salty. Bacon strips are preferred on burgers since they leave less mess on a plate at the end of the meal. I also ordered a sweet tea and a dessert before I left. On my tea refill, the waitress gave me unsweetened tea, which was strange. There were 3 bundt cakes on a cart beside the steam table with slices of vanilla, red velvet and chocolate. I chose the red velvet flavor and it was okay, but I've had better. Maybe the strangest part of the meal is that they give you a spoon to eat your cake!! In summary, the best part of the experience were the prices. The service, food quality, and taste /preparation of some menu items were a little questionable. This might be the reasoning behind the prices....not sure. Some items are just meant to be "cooked to order", and some you can get away with pre-made such as items on a steam table for faster service. I feel burgers should always be cooked to order at a sit down restaurant!
