The fries were extremely soggy and raw tasting on the inside. The Mac and cheese was bland and tasted like it came from a box.. 31Jan2026 midday The Wife and I went here for lunch and dropped about $44 for two lunches. The overall look of the place is rustic. Wood everywhere, kitch from earlier years adorn the walls. The smokey smell when entering hit like a small hammer ... inviting but not smash mouth level scents. I hoped the smell was a sign of the meal to come. It got me about half-way there before ordering. My wife eventually ordered the baked tater with chopped beef and peach cobbler while I ordered the three meat plate with sausage, sliced brisket (lean and fat) with turkey as my third meat with mac n cheese and cole slaw. We also ordered two drinks to finish off our meal list. Overall, the meals came pretty fast and the add ons (pickles, jalapeño slices as well as bread and sauces were in plenty along the side of the counter) were piled onto my tray after our number was called. I usually do a half sweet half unsweet tea, but this place had tea tinted sugar water and after a few sips I actually had to pour it out and replace it with unsweet tea. The meal, however was not as onesided as my tea mix. The sausage, while flavorful, tended to be on the warm side. The brisket was not fork tender and was also a tad on the dry side. Their jalapeño sauce worked its moisturizing magic and saved the beef. My turkey, however, rocked. It was moist, juicy and unusually tender. This is the one redeeming protein on my plate that would have me make the journey back to Conroe from The Woodlands. I can only imaging what a smoked turkey sammie would be like. YUM! The sides were very bland. The mac n cheese tasted like it was macaroni drenched in velveeta then placed in the tray on the steam table. Flavor was nonexistent and the mouth feel was not the greatest. That cole slaw tasted like those sides from institutionalized, US Army mess hall fare that was plopped out of a container, stirred around to drown the cabbage in an overly sweet, liquid forward melange of disconnected flavors that should not be served together. My wife shared her peach cobbler that was average at best. The crust was over-baked on the edges and the peach filling was good but could have had more peach chunks. A Stouffer's Peach Cobbler is the closest analog that I can identify it with. Overall, the staff were wonderful, the speed of the meal hitting my table was a nice change of pace jn most sit down places. If I had to give a 1-10 rating, I would say a solid five is justified. Good enough to drop by for a filling meal, just not so great of some other BBQ places like Killen's. Solid on the turnaround times. The cashier "Sara" was sooooo disrespectful we asked her to repeat what she said and she said " I said you have onion, pickles, lettuce!". And on the menu they had 12 meats and they only had 3 meats! The ribs and brisket were cooked wonderfully with smoky flavor and lots of moisture left in the meat. The chicken on the three meat plate turned out to be white meat and was of course dried out. The BBQ sauce was one of the most vinegar heavy I've had and was not to my liking. Trying to eat keto I was disappointed that of the dozen sides they offer zero cooked vegetables. Up in Willis for baseball practice and needed a quick place to grab a bite to eat. Found this place and gave it a try. It is a large expansive location and actually has two separate counters depending on whether you want bbq or burgers. If your party has a combination of both, they'll take your order but pickup is at two separate windows. Not a big deal but confusing on your first visit. They have this down to a science though and big lines move swiftly. There were two in our party today and our orders were almost identical with the exception of the brisket. I am a fan of moist while MK favors lean. We opted to add onion rings and sweet potato fries as sides and both were phenomenal. My moist brisket included some end pieces that were decidedly unmoist but all was well by the third slice. Food is plentiful and the atmosphere is friendly. I would certainly return. read more

When offered options for items we chose, no up charge was disclosed. At one point, my husband & I realized we wanted 1 of the same sides, so we could share. When asked if we could change a side, we were told that he would have to void the whole ticket & start over & he made it very clear that was not an option. So we went forward. We had my husband's 50th Birthday at this location. We were NOT satisfied with the food. Pork ends were dime size pieces of hard rock ends, potato salad was horrible and bland, and the brisket was dry. All the food tasted like it had been sitting for AWHILE! VERY Disappointed. Having paid over $500 I figured we would get better food! I stopped by on Friday to have lunch at McKenzie's in Conroe. I had heard some mixed reviews, but there were some good comments on the burgers, so I gave that a try. I ordered a 1/2 lb Cheeseburger and the Onion Rings. I asked if they would cook the burger rare, and the counter person said yes, and marked it that way on my receipt. You pick up your order in the next room near the grill. As I was waiting, I noted that the grill lady was cooking a burger patty. To my horror, I watched as she repeatedly smashed the burger with a spatula over and over squeezing every last bit of juice out of the burger. For I moment I felt relief knowing that could not possibly be my burger since she continued this for several more minutes, and I had ordered my burger rare. A few minutes later, she passed the patty over to the person who was assembling the bun, and putting the onion rings on the platter. Holy #$@$!! That was my burger! I did not have the time or inclination to send it back, but as I cut into it, I found a dry grey patty with not a hint of moisture. Keep in mind, this is a 1/2 pound patty, not a "smash style burger". No cook should ever keep smashing a burger of this type, even if requested well done. This was one of the worst burgers I have ever had. Very disappointing. The only reason this reviews gets 2 stars instead of 1 star, is that the onion rings were excellent. I hope the management reads this review, and has a conversation with their grill staff regarding how to cook a burger properly. Perhaps with proper cooking their burgers could be decent. read more

The staff was very friendly. The place is beautiful and looked very clean. The first thing I noticed was the smoky smell when I came in the restaurant. It was a strange chemical odor, nothing sweet like hickory, pecan or cherry wood. We ordered a three meat sampler to go. The onion rings were very good. But the Baby back ribs had a strange petroleum-like flavor to the smoky crust. Same with the brisket. The sausage was bland and dry as were the baby back ribs and chopped brisket. The barbecue sauce is a vinegar base. I'm not a fan. I do like a sweet sauce. Throw a stick at Houston and I feel you're gonna hit 10 barbecue restaurants better than this one.
