Fair warning we arrived at the drive thru 30 minutes before closing on Sunday. I was looking forward to trying their Collard greens and Black eyed Peas. And I always put coleslaw on My BBQ sandwiches. So I was sad to find them out of Collard greens and Cole slaw. I'm not mad I understand they are closing and will not be open for a few days. Also be forwarded they use a mustard based BBQ sauce- nothing wrong with that just know what your getting! So I had a Pulled pork sandwich ($4 and change) It was pretty good, would have been better with some pickles or Slaw on it. I also got the Meat plate $10 (one choice of meat with three sides. I go the pork again. The portions where ginormous! Not sure if it was because they were closing up or they were making up for being out of some sides but it was way to much to eat. I had Bandana pudding (Mm OK not cold enough) Black Eyed Peas (really let me down not much flavor to them other than the Peas, Now, I'm, a southern boy, and expect some Fat back, some bacon or pork or a little butter in those. Yams were the best of the lot. Wife had chicken (dark Meat) plate. Its fried not BBQ'd and she really liked it. Hush Puppy's were good. I probably would have liked this a lot better as a buffet, but we had the Dog with us and could not go in. So Kuddos for the portion sizes and Fried Chicken. Not a true barbecue restaurant in my book -- too many things besides BBQ going on for that. But those others things are mighty good. A ten dollar all you can eat buffet. The fried chicken looked great, and if the top notch chicken livers are any indication, it is great. Greens and fried okra pretty good too. Much else to choose from, including pork barbecue which indeed was good. Atmosphere is nothing special, and plastic utensils and styrofoam plates are the rule, but that is part of the appeal. A heavy dose of locals indicates that it must have consistent quality. This is definitely worth a stop if in the area. read more

We stopped here for lunch on the way to Florida and it made me wish I was a local. Lunch is served up buffet style for $11 a person (drink and tax included). I would have given five stars if the atmosphere was a little more friendly, at a home style place like this I would like to at least get a smile from the gal behind the cash register - no such luck! The buffet included coarse chopped pork - unsauced, peas, Lima beans, green beans, onion rings, fried chicken, corn fritter, Mac and cheese, hush puppies, etc with desserts. On a one night travel stopover - went looking for some good BBQ. Seen the one Yelp review and decided to try it. This place is great for what it offers. All you can eat buffet line - only pulled pork plus southern sides - greens, grits, black-eyed beans, fresh fried pork skins, traditional overcooked veggies!, and desserts. Quite good for $9! The place was dirty and kinda smelly. There was a hole in the wall with wires sticking out of it. Just being in there made me want to take a shower. The barbeque was utterly unimpressive. If anything it may have been a little bit too greasy. Everything I tried tasted like it needed salt. The pop that sputtered out of the fountain drink machine was flat and watered down, somehow. I did get a bit of some chocolate cake-like mush at the buffet that tasted pretty good, but when I went up for more, they'd put out a new one that was watery, runny, and cold. It was cheap though, so I guess we got what we paid for. read more

Good BBQ and extras to eat! You can't beat the tenderness of the pork and then add the Dukes sauce to it, you are in for a treat. My favorite Dukes restaurant is in Bamberg, SC closer to where we live. People keep fussing about the chicken not being barbequed, but some of these restaurants do carry BBQ chicken. Antley's BBQ in Orangeburg has fried chicken and BBQ chicken. When we say BARBEQUE, it means pulled pork, sauce or no sauce, rice with hash which is our "gravy", and cole slaw! Once again on a roadtrip going from Jersey to FL and wanted to grab a bite at the non-chain restaurants. I saw a sign for Duke's BBQ and decided to test it out. I walked into a land of southern lifestyle, cafeteria buffet style. Menu items are fixed at All You Can Eat...$9 for a regular adult buffet (discounts for seniors, super seniors and kiddies). My experience with BBQ is mostly NYC's famous Brother Jimmy's, so at least I had somewhat of a standard to compare to. I filled my plate with rice, some sort of sauce, pulled pork, mac & cheese, fried chicken, collard greens, and mild mustard bbq sauce (hot mustard bbq sauce the second time around). I chose to go with the sweetened iced tea over the unsweetened. The pork with both bbq sauces was fantastic. The mac & cheese was very good too, homestyle. I didn't dig the red gravy sauce that I put on my rice, but others seemed to like it based on the amount they took. The fried chicken was pretty good as were the collard greens. I got 2 servings of the pulled pork and mac & cheese...so I suggest those to new comers. They have a large selection of other fried foods, but I only ventured into the chicken. Sit at your own table or join some nice southerners at a group table. I'd go again. read more

First off, if you can't find this place then I recommend you make an appointment with the optometrist because they have big signs all over to help you get there. Secondly, do not be fooled by the interior of this restaurant, the food is amazing and just as good as what you would get in a country style buffet. I tried the fried chicken, pulled pork, fried okra, macaroni and cheese, and banana pudding. The food is hot and it is being put into the buffet just as fast as customers are taking it out. The fried chicken is juicy and crispy and definitely hit a sweet spot for me. The pulled pork was delicious and their hot BBQ sauce complimented it very well. The fried okra is crispy. The mac n cheese is filling and more buttery than creamy. The banana pudding was the perfect sweet ending to my meal (I ended up having 2 plates of piled food from their buffet). We arrived shortly after 11AM and they open right at 11AM. This place fills up fast and I can see why. I gave only a 4 star rating because I wish they had some kind of bread somewhere on that buffet whether it be garlic bread or regular corn bread, but that's just me. The people are all very friendly and were quick to explain how this place works after we walked in the door (as this was our first time here). I am making it a point to return to this place. I discovered Duke's more than 10 years ago while driving to Florida. There was just a small sign at the exit when I got off of 95 for lunch. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the town but several years later, I spent the night in Walterboro. While driving through the town the next morning, I recognized several places and re-discovered Duke's. It was as good as I recalled. For many years, I didn't tell anyone but surreptitiously planned my trips and stops around lunch or dinner at Duke's. I avoided driving through Walterboro too late on Sunday and never on a Monday or a Tuesday. About 3 years ago, I told my husband what I had been doing, and he understood and agreed that Duke's was worth the detour. Duke's is one of the reasons that I want to continue driving from New York to Miami; I'd hate to miss the meal. We've also been to Duke's in Charleston. Just as good but their menu changes somewhat daily. The food is always top-notch; the staff is so pleasant and helpful and friendly. And I can't believe the price. We'll be stopping by in a couple of weeks. I can almost taste it now. And I'll take some sauce to go. read more

When you hit that stretch of the I-95 between South Carolina and Virginia, good eating because fewer and far in between, especially if you want something with a taste of home. Enter Dukes BBQ . Now to be far, not much BBQ is sold here but what they do sell will knock your socks off. Crispy, Crunch and Juicy friend chicken, pulled pork and something called hash which is indescribably good, it like corned beef hash but with pork in a sauce that you eat over rice. Then they have the mac and cheese and the hush puppies, those damn hush puppies are criminal! Everything is piping hot and fresh an the deserts are yummy and did I mention its a buffet....yep your'e welcome. This is not for you if you are dieting are if you dont like cafeteria style seating of if you want free wifi or venti skinny anything, this is legit southern food and you cheat yourself out of the experience if you expect anything else. And the price is insane!!!! It will def be a must do for us on our next drive to FL (just gotta make sure I diet for a like a month in preparation because I will not be DENIED ANYTHING) read more

when i first walked in, i was a bit confused. i saw everyone serving themselves at the food. and normally going to bbq spots, you expect to be seated, then order an entree. NOT THIS PLACE! you can PIG OUT as much as you want! a BBQ buffet, is a first for me! and not only that it was downright GOOD. All southern comfort food! and they even put bread out on the tables so you can make your own bbq pork sandwich. awesome. the only thing i didn't like about this place was the presentation of the food. it was a little sloppy and the restaurant would play loud country music. but other than that, quality of the place is a 4. quality of the food is a 4. quality of the service was a 3. overall a 4. try this place yall! read more

Dukes is not a BBQ restaurant. Pulled pork is all you get that comes close. Everything else is fried. I will say their fried chicken was pretty good. If it was Dukes Fried Chicken, they might be in the four star range. The opened Sunbeam Bread bags adds a great red neck touch, but that is a major sanitary concern on my part. I can imagine some local woman telling her kid, "put that bread back in the sack, you aint filling up on bread." Styrafoam cups suck. No lemon slices for tea. Maybe I ought to switch that two to a one. Another problem is the drive through employees are constantly pulling their orders off the buffet line. They pick through the chicken whatever is ordered. Reminded me of someone looking for a special pair of sox in a drawer full of same. In closing, if you are headed south, you may be better to wait for the Cracker Barrell at exit 104 in Savannah. If you headed north,...maybe cold cuts from a Walmart deli section. If nothing else the bread will be better. read more

Cue is pretty good...served dry so you can sauce it how you like with a wide variety of sauces including vinegar and sweet base.
