If local diners could be as good as this one, I would never make breakfast ever again! The food here is delicious - so delicious in fact, that I have been at least a dozen times now and never stopped inhaling my food to take a decent photo to post here on Yelp. The staff are extremely friendly, the food is always deliciously hot and made to order, and the coffee is continuously refilled. The prices are unbeatable and I have never once had to wait for a table on the weekends (holiday weekends included). I absolutely love it here and have to stop myself from eating here every weekend. We visited the area for a concert at the amphitheater. Not wanting the hotel breakfast, Yelp gave us choices and we ventured out here to Duke's. It's busy! This family-owned place puts out great food at low prices. They promise "fast," but it was 40 minutes from seating to eating. That plus the diner atmosphere with filthy plants and OLD, well-used menus loses them a star. That said, we LOVED this place. The food was amazing. My wife had the Fireman's Special: hashbrowns with peppers and onions covered in a sausage gravy. She ordered a side of bacon. Honestly, the sausage gravy thing isn't for me, but I tasted it. Dang! It's something special! I had the huevos rancheros. It's actually deconstructed, as the tortillas come on a separate plate. The dish was more like hashbrowns and eggs covered in chili. Now the chili is worth coming for just on its own. So the whole dish came together really well. Cons: The service is slow but wonderfully personable and friendly. The decor is old, torn up, and neglected. The hashbrowns are under-seasoned, surprising for a diner. But I like erring on the side of my needing to add salt vs coming away parched and bloated from too much. Pros: Everything else!!! Seriously, this is a great little dive diner. GET THE CHILI!!! I'm not even a huge chili fan, but this family recipe is the pride of Duke's for good reason. Note to management: I left a 30% tip because your prices are ridiculously low. You could increase everything (except the coffee) by 20%, invest in the restaurant space and staffing, and be more profitable without the customer feeling the pinch. You've got something special. A last chance one-day road trip took me north a short way and through Olivehurst. After satisfying my urge for a bloody mary down the street, Yelp suggested I check out Duke's Diner for some morning grub. Technically, I suppose, it was almost lunch time. Breakfast is served all day and that's what I really wanted. This is definitely a locals place, tucked on a side road, some parking in front and more across the street in the gravel lot next to the small grocery. I love a diner counter. Duke's has specialties ... I chose the Mary Jane. A good size biscuit (in house, I believe) topped with crispy hash browns, loaded with country gravy, and then topped with Duke's chili. As if this wasn't enough of a healthy meal, I enhanced my breakfast by adding a egg, over medium - placed right on top. Biscuit, really good. Gravy, really good. Duke's chili, great. The combination of these really good to great parts and the crispy hash browns made this a hearty meal that carried me for a few hours. Not fancy, very diner, with friendly bustling staff. I doubt that I will (ever) be back in this area but if I was, I'd come back and dive into more lovely diner food. Oh ... coffee and this breakfast, after tax, $9.67 read more

This is old school deliciousness!! We walked in to a classic diner, including the most comfortable counter seating I have ever seen. We were greeted immediately by the friendly and very efficient and competent server. She was handling counter booths and tables. The menu has everything you would want for breakfast or lunch. You can even customize your omelet, just ask. The omelets we ordered were HUGE, along with an accompanying plateful of hash browns. The biscuits were yummy, ask for the gravy on the side as it is fairly thick and can smother the biscuit. Bacon was crisp and delusions. Service, food, menu and decor were all exactly what you want when you go to a diner to eat. Everyone there seemed happy, and many left with to go boxes. We should have but didn't. read more

My husband and I are frequent fliers at this diner. It's a small family diner off the beaten path. It's very comfortable and welcoming going there. I love to try new places for breakfast on the weekends and was told to come check out Dukes in Olivehurst. Checked it out last Monday morning (day off for holiday yay). Walked in, nothing flashy, has the mom and pops diner look and feel to it. I sat at the bar (just me) with the regulars that come in and talk about the latest news. Single waitress running the diner along with the bar area (great service btw). Ordered the 2 egg special (2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, toast, country potatoes, and two biscuits with gravy), and no definitely could not eat all of it. I was surprised that the biscuits were very soft and the gravy has a light taste to it, nothing greasy. Overall, breakfast was great, service was great. Nice place to eat relax and have breakfast without the 30 minute wait and hassle of a million people in it. The waitresses are always patient and kind. I typically get the breakfast special with eggs, bacon, and hash browns. OMG!!! This is definitely breakfast/lunch spot whenever we are in this part of California. Huge Huge portions. It just kept coming at us. We ordered a lunch special and 2 breakfast meals. Huge portions at very reasonable portions. We shared it amongst 4 of us and still had some leftover! The server brought us a small dish of their famous award winning chili to go with the delicious biscuit and gravy. It was all so so good! The lunch special included a dessert. Good food for a fair price. Ordered the all meat omelette, crispy hash, biscuit and gravy. My buddy ordered the special scrambled, bacon, crispy hash, sour dough. He said he liked it and was pretty satisfied. My omelette was good but had that sliced cheese like kraft sliced on top which brought down the quality. The hash was good. Biscuit and gravy average good. The price makes it a four star, the service a five star, and the food a three star. But I can put up with bad service and higher price for AWESOME FOOD. So 3 stars is all I could give. Don't get me wrong. The food was good and worth going to eat because I want yo support the local restaurant and Yelp recommendations but I would probably just liked the breakfast special for $7 better.
