The manager still refused and told her she'd have to purchase two separate milkshakes instead. The request wasn't for extra product--just a second cup for two small children to share. What made the experience worse was the manager's attitude. She came across as rude and dismissive rather than trying to help find a reasonable solution. We understand that every location has its own policies, but customer service goes a long way. Naturally, I was confused because I had just been told the store was out of water. I turned around and went back inside since it was clear there wasn't actually a problem with the water. Once I walked back in, the employee said, "Oh, I guess they're working now." While speaking with the other customers in the store, they also shared that they had initially been told there was no water, but decided to try anyway and it worked. I understand that things happen and equipment can be unpredictable, especially near closing time. However, as the other customer was finishing up, the employee walked over and said, "Well, are you going to pay for that or what?" Both myself and the other customers were stunned not only by what was said, but also by the tone in which it was delivered. The overall attitude made it feel as though we were a burden simply for trying to purchase water and go about our evenings. I completely understand the need to complete closing tasks and manage time efficiently, but there is still a way to do that while maintaining basic customer service and respect.
