Wow! I'm so happy I discovered this cafe and I'm antsy to return soon. We were immediately greeted by a friendly face who welcomed us in. The menu and everything in the display cases looked so appetizing, we had such a difficult time choosing what to order! We started with BEC sandwiches - they were made really well on delicious toasted rolls - my only complaint was the Kraft American cheese singles. Please upgrade the cheese and it will make the world of a difference to the meal!! I also had a hot tea with some pastries we got: Oreo cheesecake and an ombligo with a custard filling - absolutely delicious and perfectly sweetened. We had thought this might be related to the Dulce de Leche chain in northern New Jersey, but it's a small place with a local vibe. We tried the beef and the spinach/mushroom empanadas, a chocolate filled pastry and the alfajores. The empanadas were the proper baked Argentinian version. I thought the beef was very tasty but it lacked the chopped olive I associate with the Argentinian style. La Portena had no complaints about her spinach/mushroom version. The alfajores came in three sizes, something I did not realize when ordering. I would not repeat my order of the large size, the ratio of cookie to filling being off. The medium looked about right. The best item was a chocolate filled pastry, similar to a croissant that I had the next day. Flaky and light, it revealed some skill in the baking. read more

The young girl at the desk was very sweet and friendly made fresh coffee just for us even when they were not far from closing time.. Pastries? I think it's my 4th time in the place!! It's magnificent I love having breakfast in this place, I've tried the desserts too (pending on the photos) and they are delicious. All the bakery here is fresh and made the same day. The coffee is dulce de leche uffff I couldn't describe such a delight. I would like to eat other options from the menu with more time. When we travel, I love finding small, indy coffee places, so I couldn't be happier to have stumbled onto Dulce de Leche this morning! A cute-as-can-be bake shop on a quiet corner in Stratford, they specialize in Argentine treats (both savory and sweet). I had gone just for coffee, which I was told was terrific (and it was!) I left with both a sandwiche de migas and a chicken empanada. WOWZA! The sandwiche de migas is simple but ethereally delicious (you should absolutely go get one right now) and the empanada was jam-packed with flavor and its pastry was flaky perfection. In short, this place is a GEM and folks here in the Nutmeg State are lucky to have Dulce de Leche in their backyard. read more

Swing by this sweet Argentinian pastry/coffee place on a Thursday afternoon looking for a drink and a small bite to eat. We opted for the Carne Empanadas which were to die for. I can't tell if they are fried or baked but they came out hot and tender. The beef inside of it was absolutely delicious, looked like it had some small pieces of carrot and onion instead of it, mouth is watering just thinking about it. It's a small local place off a neighborhood connecting to Broadbridge. They had other offerings on the menu such as the chicken Milanese, other options for empanadas and some breakfast sandwich options. Once they were closed when the hours were supposed to be open so I vowed to not return, but it just sounded so tasty so a few days later I tried it out. The dulce de leche iced latte was really good! I wanted empanadas but wasn't sure if they'd have them since I was coming late in the day, but I called beforehand and they said they didn't have any but I could order them and they'd be ready for pick up, so I did that. I ordered 2 beef and they were hot and ready when I arrived. I'd say the flavor was just okay. I've had better a bunch. I'd be eager to try other things on the menu. The pastries are delicious with so many different types and flavors, like mini cake puffs, cheesecakes , macaroons and my favorite pastries from South America Alfajores. Also their have a lots of options for coffee like espressos , lates and cappuccinos. They offer a menu with empanas or sandwiches. Can't recommend this place enough ... there's aren't enough authentic Argentinian places in ct and they partially fill this void. Great selection of traditional sweets , media Lunes, alfajores, and Dulce de leche cakes, empanadas. They also carry a good variety of yerba for the materos. I love this new cafe in my neighborhood! The pastries are adorable, the prices are great, the newly renovated building is cozy & clean. And I love supporting local small businesses. I've been wanting to try yerba mate, and they made me a mate cocido, that's in a teabag style. I said, "how do people take it?"
