I was looking forward to trying Dumpling Daughter for a while, but I am pretty much never in the Weston area, so the last time I was in Newton I made a special trip out of my way to try it out. I had the petit chicken dumplings, the BBQ pork buns, and the 5-Spice Tofu Taiwanese buns. The flavor of the chicken dumplings was quite good, although they were a bit mushy for my taste. The buns were just okay - nothing special, and certainly not worth the price. They tasted very similar to what I could buy in the frozen section of any Asian supermarket. The pork and chive dumplings were a bit doughy compared to the meat ratio (sizing was also inconsistent). The cucumber salad was more on the pickled side and not crispy/crunchy like fresh cucumbers. It's next to a small grocery, which by the way, sells alcohol which you can bring into DD. They will even provide the wine glasses & bottle opener. It was good! I got the three day pork Ramen and the braised pork belly Taiwanese Buns. I have had better ramen but doesn't mean it wasn't tasty. The pork belly buns were close to perfect. Nice thick slices of tasty pork belly. I would eat here again if I were in the area and definitely try something different. I liked the fast food/take out efficiency of this place. Cons: I had to change my order to take out; something popped up and I had to leave, the cashier didn't communicate it to the kitchen and I got kind of a cold lack of response from the man who had my tray of food when I let him know I had to change to take out. Living in Waltham.. it's always refreshing to see places like this pop up around me that isn't too far to get to. Very nice and clean inside. I like the layout of this place. You order, take a table number then they bring it out to you. As for food, it's average. Nothing that wowed me. Dumplings and roasted pork buns for apps. The roasted pork bun were ok. Sort of dry inside...but I guess that means it's less fattening or I would like to think that way. :) the dumplings were just ... dumplings. Typical. Of course I had to try the ramen.. very gingerly and it's a light broth. The braised pork was tender but again I don't like much of the fatty pork. I know people love that for flavor but I don't. Noodles weren't chewy which I don't mind. Also got the beef noodle... this one is interesting. It's a hearty bowl. The meat was also tender... kind of remind me of Bun Bo Hue. Very disappointed with my experience there. The dumplings were mediocre at best. The Dan Dan mien had this very strange after taste, like the wrong ingredient was used. The wok roasted green beans also had this awful after taste. The noodles were not edible. And everything was served in a to- go container even if you were dining in. Excellent concept carried off with efficiency and skill I recommend this restaurant to all the menu is varied enough to keep you coming back but not cluttered with a million different dishes which is refreshing. I'm fortunate to have a good friend who lives right near DD. She brings take out whenever we have lunch. She always brings the same thing. Pan fried chicken dumplings. But I went into the bricks and mortar today. Which meant that I could have whatever I wanted. After all these fantasies of a rice bowl. Or a steamed pork bun. Lo and behold I ended up with dumplings again. But this time I was able to get them steamed. And with veggies. IMO so much better than pan fried. I think I'm actually glad that I don't live closer. I enjoy the food - fresh and tasty - but I wanted to highlight the fact that they're excellent with food allergies. My husband (who is Chinese!) has a sesame allergy making ordering Chinese food a risk. Dumpling Daughter is awesome. There are some items that can't be accommodated, but many can. Even some of the dumplings! Some favorites in our house include lo mein, the little chicken dumplings, pork and chive dumplings, and spicy eggplant. So now my family can enjoy Chinese takeout again without the fear of an allergic reaction! read more

I think there should be a Dumpling Daughter in every town. All of the things we ordered were delicious from the Katsu Chicken to the cabbage pork dumplings. The steamed buns (beef and pork) were good but they are in desperate need of some sort of dipping sauce. If there had been a sauce, this would have been a 5 star review. read more

I really liked this place. The service is different than most restaurants - you seat yourself, and have to go up to order. The food is then brought to you. It was easy to order and the food came out pretty quick. There weren't that many people in the place but they were very busy processing take out orders. The four of us got several different things and everything was very good with the exception of one soup dish that was just glass noodles, chicken pieces, some diced tomato and a clear broth. Pretty plain but I think that was the point of the dish. Everything else was very flavorful, hot and delicious. First ate here when it opened. Remember liking it so when my family was in the neighborhood yesterday decided to stop by for a late lunch. This place automatically has me trying it since it's nut-free. Many thanks for making a safe restaurant for a peanut allergy family. First, the place really is getting tired in appearance. The pillows on the booths likely haven't been cleaned in years and affected my appetite a bit. The bathroom smelled and really seemed to be falling apart. While the food area appeared clean, the dining room was gross! Tables were visibly soiled and there were fruit flies everywhere. The small condiment bar (which was out of everything) had a SWARM of fruit flies. Passed on that! Our meal was spent with the kids chasing away the flies while we ate. The food itself was OK. We didn't order Ramen, so perhaps that is better. The crispy brussels sprouts needed salt and more of the sauce. They also weren't very crispy. The spicy eggplant was acceptable but nothing to write home about. The spicy lo mein again was acceptable but also again nothing to write home about. The kids were a bit disappointed so we ordered a piece of the chocolate cake for them to split. That was actually really good but was from a local bakery. The steamed Shrimp dumplings were bland. The feeling was a bit fishy. The Dan Dan Mien noodles where a let down. The noodles themselves were unimpressive and overcooked. Came across as mushy thick spaghetti. This is my third time to Dumpling Daughter in Weston and I'm just not sure why the reviews are so high. I've eaten in once and done takeout twice. I've had several dumplings, seafood and the ramen. The food is just ok, extremely one dimensional. There's not a whole lot of flavor at all. I really wanted to love this place and make it my go-to as I live in Wellesley and the Chinese food options are pretty bad. The pork in the pork ramen was so incredibly fatty that there was just 1 small strip of actual meat. Barely edible and the meat that was there was chewy. I'm used to Little Big Diner pork ramen which does not even come close to being comparable. Their pork belly is much more meatier, tastier and the ramen itself is incredibly flavorful. It's just not even worth eating it here at DD. Maybe the people that eat here don't know any better or haven't had great ramen before? I can't seem to figure out what the explanation would be for these reviews. The menu items all sound really great, don't get me wrong, it's just the execution is shockingly poor. Hopefully things change or something new takes over the space that's worthwhile. Maybe the low reviews in Cambridge location will start to catch up in Weston too and people will realize...after all, it's the SAME food! read more

What!!?? How does this have such relatively low ratings? We're dumpling aficionados, and these are some of the best we've tried. Fast, friendly, reasonably priced. No soup dumplings that I could tell, but those aren't our cup anyway. Buns were outstanding, and my daughter had the chicken wings on top of the dumplings, and they were hot and fresh. I had the beef/noodle salad, and that was the right amount of spice, and good to the last drop. So much on the menu we didn't even get to, we want to bring others and go back. Here's to hoping they expand their locations, as traveling from Boston burgs to Weston isn't exactly convenient. read more

Very delicious and clean food. Relatively large portions at reasonable pricing. Slightly sweet rather than spicy in spite of the Sichuan background. I had to use some chili sauce to cut the sweetness. Had the Petit Chicken Dumplings - truly petite and scrumptious. Very clean tasting - almost zero oil or heaviness. Had Grandma's Beijing Meat Sauce over traditional Chinese noodles - a dish I know well from Asia. Very deliciously flavored with subtle nuances - but again on the sweet side. We stopped in a few days ago on the way back from a college tour. Nice looking area and restaurant is clean. Unfortunately they are still pretty covid scared around that area and the indoor part is closed. So we ordered and took it with us. There are a few seats outside which is nice. The service was good but awkward as you are only allowed to go in like 8 inches. They need open their restaurant and move on from covid. Food came out quickly and was very good. Parking is difficult, and the interior is bright and clean if not elegant or trendy. You order at the cashier, and they give you a number on a stem to set on your table, and they bring the dishes out to the table as the kitchen prepares them. I went with three friends for lunch on a Tuesday, and we found a table, shortly before 12:00. The restaurant was full by the time we were done with lunch. I ordered the pan-seared pork dumplings, the pan-seared vegetable dumplings and the steamed roasted bbq pork. One of my companions ordered the pork dumplings as well, and the wonton soup. The other companion ordered the Petit Chicken Dumplings with Slow Cooked Sichuan Sauce, the Steamed Traditional Beef bun and the Fried Rice. The pan-seared pork dumplings were tasty if completely conventional and as expected. The pan-seared vegetable dumplings (which came in a green dough) could have had a little bit more filling in them, but were also tasty. The Slow Cooked Sichuan Sauce which came with thePetit Chicken Dumplings was the star of the meal, and made everything that was dipped into it, including the other two dumpling types and the steamed buns. The prices are reasonable, and there were enough other items on the menu and that looked good (not to mention items carried out to other tables) that makes me want to return as soon as I can. You can tell the food is high-quality. Everything is fresh and tastes "clean"... meaning I can still function after over-indulging. Weston Town Center has been waiting for a gem like this. Food is authentic, delicious, and lives up to the promise. Can't wait to try the whole menu. Atmosphere is modern, plenty of space to sit with friends and family. What a gem! We'd been wanting to check it out ever since we saw them on Phantom Gourmet. I'm not super experienced with Asian cuisine, and because of this I often feel intimidated when I enter a new restaurant and am not sure what to order. The menu does a great job of explaining what every dish is and it was easy to order. We ordered the wonton soup, bbq pork buns, pan seared pork and cabbage dumplings and steamed pork and chive dumplings. The food came out super quick and everything tastes so fresh and delicious. It was so filling, we couldn't finish it all! Staff was very friendly. The owner was very visible, from behind the counter to even cleaning a table here and there which I think is a great sign of a good owner/manager. I never understood the fascination with steamed pork buns. Why do I want to eat a chewy/doughy thing with a weird filling that has a piece of paper stuck to the bottom of it? Finally, after trying the steamed BBQ pork bun at Dumpling Daughter, do I understand why people go crazy for these things. That's not all, as the name suggests "Dumpling Daughter" also houses some of the best homemade dumplings (each with a unique sauce) that I have ever enjoyed. Dumpling Daughter has several kinds of "Bao" both Chinese (steamed bread surrounding a filling) and Taiwanese style (like a very puffy baby pita). Unfortunately, we only tried the steamed roasted BBQ pork bun (bao) which comes as three pieces. I say unfortunately because it was awesome. The bread part of the bun was steamed perfectly leaving a tiny bit of chewiness on the outside and very fluffy bread on the inside. The filling was a nice mix of pork flavor as well as a sweet (not overly so) BBQ sauce on the filling. The ratio of filling to bread was a little more skewed toward the bread side, but it was quite delicious. I also had the pleasure of completely separating the steam paper from bun without tearing it - win! I cannot wait to have more of these buns and to try the other styles and flavors. Our original intention for trying out Dumpling Daughter was the dumplings. We had the following: chicken with Sichuan sauce, pan seared pork and Napa cabbage, and a "daily special" shrimp dumpling. The chicken dumpling was our favorite, not because of the filling (which was good) but because of the amazing Sichuan sauce that was well-seasoned (not too) spicy goodness. We could not stop ourselves from slathering our remaining dumplings in this sauce (esp. the shrimp ones). The pan seared pork and cabbage dumplings came with a more traditional sweet soy-based sauce. The sear brought a nice textural component to the more meat than cabbage dumpling. Finally, the shrimp special dumpling had a very delicate texture (almost like Shumai filling). These dumplings came with a soy-based sauce, but we preferred them in the spicier Sichuan sauce. Dumpling Daughter also has a whole host of other options including soups, rice bowls, noodle dishes, salads, wraps, and more. People have mentioned how delicious the spring rolls are here (although we did not try them). Drinks include various teas, bubble tea (the best taro one I have had - not overly sweet), soda, and water. Dumpling Daughter is BYOB with no corkage fee. I cannot wait to try more of the food here. read more

We made a trip out after seeing these guys on phantom gourmet. The dumplings were really good, and truthfully I would go 3 1/2 stars, but I only have this one visit to go by and the ramen fell short for me. It had an odd taste and my wife and I agreed that we probably wouldn't get it again. The egg in the ramen was a little strange too. It had an strange gray exterior and was cooked hard through. That being said I would definitely recommend the pork buns and the dumplings. They were tasty and we devoured them. The bubble tea was also really interesting as I had never heard of or had it before. It had little dummies at the bottom which sounds like an odd combo, but I actually really liked it. Unfortunately we probably won't be back unless we are in Wellesley for something else because it's a 20 to 25 minute drive from where we lib in Waltham. If you live nearby or are in the area it's worth stopping in for the dumplings for sure! read more
