Brought my husband to experience this authentic Chinese food. The hot and sour soup was thicker than he had ever had but he enjoyed it . The orange beef was delicious and very generous in portion. We packed up some to take home. We ate 9 of the 12 dumplings that were packed with pork and leeks. You know it's a good. Chinese restaurant when everyone but the two of us is Chinese

With Chinese food, average scoring on apps can be quite misleading. Mulan's got it where it counts - authentic food, great service, and affordable prices. I'd encourage anyone who comes here to order traditional dishes to have the best experience!

Second impression of Chinese food in the Boston metro within 2 years (last time was April 2023). We arrived right after opening so the restaurant was empty & we were first to be seated, so of course got the booth table by the window. The menu is easy to browse, and many of the options lean more American Chinese than authentic. However, if you know how to translate well there are definitely some gems like the dishes pictured. The west lake beef soup reminds me of my childhood in Shanghai, but the texture was very off (where was the starch??) All 3 other dishes we got were standouts, in particular the pan fried noodles w/ beef. They DO give fortune cookies when you receive the bill, so there's that little treat to anticipate. By the time we left, the place was almost full!

Great chinese food. Super fast service.

Super fast service! The fish was amazing. Very crowded, food very authentic and not pricy.

Well, had the garlic shredded pork lunch special. I ordered some wings appetizer. It was spicy in a good way . The place was freezing as no heat? The fleas flying around disturbed me . Then the waitress walking around with tennis racket bug zapper in December zapping fleas or flies affected my appetite... what other creatures lurk near my food in kitchen? The fleas must be desperate when warmer places must exist. I would rate 4-5 stars but with my fleas buzzing around ... I gave a five because of the tea pot and peanuts, large plate for lunch special, hot crisp wings .

Overall a solid restaurant with an interesting menu, great food, great service. The menu has a lot more than your typical Massachusetts Chinese/taiwanese restaurant. I enjoyed everything we had. Very nice dining area and comfortable atmosphere

Very average Taiwanese food. I think if you're craving some takeout, it's a solid choice but you've probably had better. In terms of dish rank: 1. Sweet & Sour Pork 2. Fried Tofu 3. Fish Fillet in Spicy Black Bean Sauce 4. Fried Squid/Veggies I think the sweet & sour pork was by far the best dish. It had a really good sauce and tasted great with rice. Fish fillet was solid - fish was tender and not too spicy. The fried squid was a bit too oily that it became soggy. The squid and veggies didn't have much flavor either. Also their service is very slow. Even if it's very obvious that you're ready to order or get the check, they seemingly never notice.

Very rarely do I find myself being absolutely impressed and wanting to come back soon with friends and family to share this wonderful experience. The food was so on point and how I remember these dishes when in Taiwan. The service was very much on top of their game and were regularly checking on us and my son, making sure we were taken care of. Being as I am trying to teach my son how to use chopsticks, he ended up dropping it several times, and the staff were quickly there to provide another set for him and encouraging him as he was, "Doing my a great job!" Very kid friendly, with bowls and cups fit for children. Definitely a great place to come to if you want to experience good Taiwanese Cuisine.

Celebrated my bday with my family here. We got a private room and the minimum and pricing for food was so reasonable! Everything is so dang tasty!! Favorites: *** WALNUT SHRIMP - their version of this is one of my favorites Eel over rice Smoked duck Whole fish with Taiwanese style sauce Hunan lamb Eggplant with basil Service was also very efficient, food came out all at once so we could fill the lazy Susan! And the server kept checking in on us.

Solid twin shop of the Mulan in Kendal Square in Cambridge 4.5 Stars. You know a spot is good when it's ALWAYS CROWDED. I was in the area for a friend's bday on a cold and stormy late-spring night and needed something hot and probably spicy! Luckily I was with a friend who is always down to over-order food. We went deep on the menu with seafood dumplings wrapped in squid-ink wraps. They were succulent, steaming hot and beautifully flavored. We also ordered the Mulan cold chicken, which I LOVED. It's very Taiwanese and not for everyone. Dominated by 5 spice blend seasonings and oh so very tender (almost soft), it is such a unique dish that is very hard to find and even harder to do well! For mains we got the Lamb in Chili Sauce. It was giving Mapo Tofu vibes, came out in a HUGE bowl with scallions, tofu, heaping servings of diced lamb that was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was spicy (in my opinion, but my Gringo friend found it a bit 'hot'). What a treat, and a must try if you are there. We gut-bust ordered the sizzling beef on the recommendation of the staff and oh were they right!! What ever they are doing to their meats, everything is just perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. This is not your corner "Chinese Restaurant". The quality is on par with much more expensive restaurants. Is it hard to get service sometimes? Yes. Does the place look basic? Yes. Is the wine, cocktail and beer selection minimal? Yes. SO WHAT!! THIS PLACE IS DELICIOUS!!! It is now on my must eat rotation if I'm ever in the Boston Area!

I ordered takeout food from this restaurant and it was prepared in time. It's probably not the most authentic Taiwanese food but I enjoyed the flavor anyways. Price was very reasonable too

The portion is decent. The dumpling soup was bland, the kung-pao beef was chewy. I don't know how they have high ratings.

Do the vegetarian dumplings contain egg in the filling? There is something mixed in with the greens and I hope it is tofu. It looks egg colored (yellow).

Dining room was clean and pleasant. Server was very busy and seemed harried. He did bring us tea when we sat down, which was nice. We had to ask for water. Soup was more sour than hot, not at all memorable and I wouldn't order it again. The 3 cups dish was good - not greasy at all, tender tofu, and eggplant cooked just right. The dried tofu dish was ok - could have used a bit more heat and was a bit dry. The pea shoots were a bit tough, but a nice complement. Finally, they do not serve brown rice. I will go back- I wish I knew what dishes they prepare well. Another commenter suggested they might really be best for Sichuan cuisine; maybe that is true. There were Chinese-only items printed on the wall, but I don't know what those were.

Service was strange... hot tea came to table right away and was watered down and minimal tea flavor. I ordered a sesame chicken lunch special which came with soup egg drop soup, spring roll , white rice. I ordered a side of beef teriyaki . Waitress asked 1 or 2 teriyaki ? I assumed how many teriyaki sticks or small or large options? I said 2. Egg drop soup and spring roll shows up with duck sauce... egg drop soup was very good. Spring roll was excellent and filling was fresh. Then Next 2 orders of beef teriyaki with 4 sticks each show up??? She takes away my duck sauce from my spring roll... and leaves me with no duck sauce for my beef teriyaki? I now ask for duck sauce for teriyaki? She brings out a hot spicy sauce instead of duck sauce ? The sesame chicken was very good but more sweet and sour sauce flavor than sesame ? The beef teriyaki was extremely tough meat and I had to ask for a knife to cut up? No glass of water as I saw other tables getting water? I had to ask for water as tea wasn't doing it for me ? Then another duck sauce shows up I didn't ask for but glad it did arrive and was needed? Teriyaki had great flavor but tough like beef jerky and one order would have been enough to tolerate without the confusion of getting 2 orders and then also charged for two ? I found the service confusing and not a smooth outing? Then both the waitresses disappeared while waiting for the check . I asked for a glass of water at this point. No fortune cookie, pineapple or exit offering with the check? All in all I was confused.. but I would eat again here and assume staff trying ... next time I'll be very clear what 1 vs 2 means. The menu does look many good options and convenience with parking, location and nice dining room. I would have rate 4-5 stars but the teriyaki wasn't tender and too tough to enjoy.
