I decided to give this place another try since Kiwibot had a promotion for this place. Ordered the sliced pork with garlic and spicy sauce. The food is just not great here. The sauce was overwhelming and very liquidy. The water chestnuts were also very undercooked. Ended up throwing away most of my food because I just felt sick afterwards. Only star comes from having a decent amount of sliced pork in there though. As for the service, it was even worse than the food. I arrived at around the stated time to pick up my food and gave the cashier the name of my order. He told they were really backed up and would take another 15 minutes. Lo and behold it ended up being an extra 30 minutes just standing there. Sure I get that the kitchen can get backed up at times, but being 30 minutes behind is a sign of bigger issues. When I finally got my food, the cashier instead of apologizing just told me to use this waiting time for future reference and to come in later, blaming the app for not allowing him to update waiting times. Side note, you can clearly see the cook making the food out of order as I saw tickets placed after me being made earlier than I was. Overall not great experiences the couple times I was here. That gave us time to decide if we wanted anything else from the menu, but we didn't. We came in for 1 reason and 1 reason only, Shanghai pork soup dumplings! The man who took our order was very nice. After he had finished taking the order of the party ahead of us, he acknowledged that we were there and that he'd be right with us. I like that! It doesn't make us feel invisible. We ordered 2 of their specials- 6 XLB w/ free bun of Choice. He told us it would be approx. 12 minutes, so we stood around and waited. The 12 minutes seemed like forever because I was just anticipating on the moment I get to eat it. I got my sauce ready and all because cold XLB's are not any good. You have to eat them RIGHT AWAY. I ordered door dash as I usually do to spice up my dreary office existence. I ordered Mongolian chicken and put in the note "steamed rice." It never asked if I wanted fried or steamed so I specified​ because what Asian​ food place dosen't come with rice. I mean even ​McDonalds gives out free ketchup, like come on. I keep forgetting to take photos but I enjoy eating at this place. Parking as always is atrocious (pretty much anywhere in Berkeley) and last time I went they were closed for lunch. Weird though. They just blocked the door with trash cans and told me they were closed. Lost my business that day. They are a good dim sum place but with Oakland Chinatown so close by they don't seem as tasty. Wow wow wow! This place is sooo good! I got the house special of 6 dumplings, a roll, and a soda for $10. The broth in the dumplings was so smooth and the sizes/textures were perfect. I ordered for pick up (the order was ready within 15 minutes from when I called). Once I picked it up I had to drive a little over 15 minutes to eat them and they were still super hot which is a big plus! I went in and the cashier was friendly enough when he took my order. After I paid the $6 cash (using a credit card costs more), he told me it would take 10-15 minutes which was surprising given I've come at this time before and it's taken less than 10 minutes. There was only one young lady who had already ordered waiting for her food. I sat and waited and 10 minutes later, my to go bag with a cup of porridge was in my possession. I walked back to work, pulled the container out, and was surprised to see that the rice and soup had separated and the container was 1/3 soup. When I've come in the past, there had been a good rice to porridge ratio. If I can find a picture of that, I'll post it. Today's meal was extremely disappointing given the standards I'd already held them to. I hope this was just a fluke day and they didn't mean to give me so little rice, egg, and pork. Overview: Really, really solid place for XLBs. Their steamed char siu buns are "meh..." I like the proximity to campus and the pricing. Pricing: They have different cash vs. credit pricing. The credit prices are generally $0.50 more than what they would charge for cash. Breadth of menu: They cover dim sum, standard rice plates, noodle dishes, soups, and even bahn mis. The selection is wide. Service: Just ok. It took about 10-15min to turn around an order for 12 XLBs and 2 steamed char siu buns at 5:15pm on a Thursday. Seating: Limited, and really awkward to walk around in here. Again, this isn't intended to be a fancy sit-down. The pricing they charge assumes quick turnovers. So, it's not going to be ideal. This spot have always been my favorite place. It's really great that the place has reopened now. I am from Northern China, so I normally avoid eating Chinese food since very few are authentic, because of the limited choice of vegetables and spices, and a different taste of Americans. But I can safely say that the food here is very authentic. It's not at the high-end for Chinese food, but it reminds me of the food in the small restaurants in a Chinese college town. The taste is there, and their dumplings are the best in the east bay. The owner uses steamers these days because of Covid, which makes the rice unevenly cooked sometimes. I hope that the Covid ends soon so they will go back to normal. I really miss some of the rice plates, such as Shredded Pork with Garlic and Spicy Sauce (鱼香肉丝), which is a traditional dish I would recommend you to try in every Chinese restaurant. It looks simple but it's a difficult dish to cook. It can be easily overcooked because of the complexity of the materials (wood ear, water chestnut, bamboo shoot and shredded pork), and it's also difficult to balance the tastes in the sauce. I would give a 4-star on this dish at this spot, the highest I had ever given to an America-based restaurant. I don't know why people complain about the 50-cent charge with credit card - wouldn't it be more appropriate to direct it to the corporate greed? That's around $0.50 per dumpling which is a pretty good price. Taste-wise, the Chicken w/ Napa Cabbage dumplings are soft, juicy, and flavorful. The skin has a nice texture to it. With their soup dumplings, my partner mentioned that the skin was a little too thick, but I thought it was fine (depends on your preference). The soup inside the soup dumplings are a bit on the sweeter side, which came as a surprise. It's still delicious though in my opinion. It has this nice savory umami flavor coupled with this sweet taste in the background. The staff are friendly and provide real fast service. I have been here so many times, I think it's about time a write a review haha. This place is located right across the street from where I live, so it is very convenient for me to run across the street to grab some food when I don't feel like trekking out very far. I used to get the chicken and corn dumplings here, which were pretty good, but then I got them too often and got a bit sick of them (also because the skin is a bit on the thicker side). Nowadays, I usually get their Shanghai soup dumpling special, which comes with 6 pieces and also includes a free bun! The dumplings are cute and bite-sized, and they're pretty flavorful! I did try their dim sum dishes (shrimp dumpling and shu mai) once, but I was not very impressed, sadly :( Nevertheless, this place is always a convenient place to drop by when I want to get food to go, and I am sure I will be back! I'm hovering between 3 stars or 3.5 stars. This place opened up rather recently and I have mixed feelings. The food is good and cheap, but not mind-blowing, however still good for the price and some dishes can last two meals for 6 dollars. Beef chow mein (4 stars): I prefer it with the thin egg noodles, but both the thick and the thin noodles are delicious. It's not overly oily and they give you a good amount of noodles and beef. Beef chow fun (4 stars): nice and thick noodles with plenty of beef and noodles. The dish is well seasoned and the noodles weren't bland at all. Soup dumpling for crab and pork (3 stars): it's okay. The soup is inside the dumpling. The meat is good but the dough isn't well kneaded. So the dumpling dough just didn't add anything good. Shrimp dumpling with chives (2 stars): not my thing. I didn't like the steamed dumpling with chives and shrimp-- it was bland and it wasn't anything special. Save your money. Pork and preserved egg soup (3.5 stars): the pork in the rice soup didn't do anything for me. It was pretty bland. The preserved egg on the hand was interesting and rich. My dinner companion prefers her soup without pork for that very reason. Personally, I'm not a rice porridge person, but it's not a bad dish, especially for winter. And the portions are big, definitely two meals for $4.50. Service( 3.5 stars): the people are nice ad polite. They are willing to explain dishes to you and they're just friendly people. There's also a side area for complimentary water, sriracha, soy sauce, and vinegar. HOWEVER, the service is very slow in getting our food out. On average, the wait is 20 minutes during dinner time (6 pm). The worst is 30 minutes. If they can become more efficient, the rating will definitely go up. Wo pengyoumen, ni hao ma!? I swear if I had been raised in China, I'd be like "this straight up brings back memories of late night street food with the homies". HELLA BOMB. We were there last Saturday, ordered 2 sets of soup dumplings (12 total) and 1 chicken dumplings order and 1 pork dumplings order with few frozen buns to go. Due to COVID-19 they don't sell rice plate or other food only those dumplings, but those are good enough especially their soup dumplings. My 2 years old ate 5 of those and 2 pork dumpling. She loves the soup inside the dumping. Not like other restaurant. They put the cover under the soup dumpling so you won't miss the juice. My husband and I have been supporting this place for the past 3 years - our usual: shanghai dumplings with pork and they would give out custard buns for free per order. We usually order at the restaurant but we decided to order 2 orders of dumplings thru yelp eater for the first time because we saw that option. It costs $2 extra than normal, which we didnt mind pay for. The owner said no free buns because we ordered thru yelp and they charged them a commission. The place offers a great variety of asian food with a very low price. The dumplings I ordered were shrimp and chive dumplings. Each of the dumpling was full of chive and 1-2 little shrimps. The chive has a strong garlicky taste. The overall taste of the filling was ok, but I really liked the texture of the wrap, which was kind of chewy not like the regular one. The shanghai dumplings are ok-- they're on the smaller side, and I wished they had more soup inside. The bun was also smaller than I expected, but for a total of $6.50 (if you pay by card), I think the portions are justified. Without expectations, I also tried the jasmine milk tea. To my surprise the drink was large and better than I expected. It wasn't too sweet which I like, but the drink was definitely a bit watery and could have benefited from slightly stronger tea. My whole experience at the restaurant was mildly irritating. When I arrived, I saw two prices listed for every item- a cash price and a card price. Incentives for cash payments seem sketchy. I tried to order one of the plate items, but the cashier told me I'd have to wait 30-45 minutes. I didn't want to wait that long, so instead, I ordered pork kim chi dumplings and the shrimp dumplings. Eating dumplings is a Lunar New Year tradition, so I got this craving for some hot dumplings. However, good vegetarian dumplings are harder to find than meat filled ones. I have made vegetarian dumplings in the past. It's a lot more work to chop up all sorts of vegetables plus glass noodles plus tofu, etc. I took a chance with Dumpling Express since they seem to have good reviews although the reviews are mostly for meat filled dumplings. I figured I would just buy the frozen ones to try. I bought both the dumplings and the vegetarian buns, mushrooms and scallions. I was extremely happy with the veggie dumplings. They are filled with glass noodles, carrots, water chestnuts, corn, mushrooms, and some green leaf veggies. Cabbage? I was impressed. The buns were great, too. I steamed them, and they were so fluffy. Initially I only bought one order each. They were all gone in less than 2 days. I had to go back. I returned to the store on Monday at 11 am only to realize they open at noon and close on Sundays. So glad I didn't come yesterday. I would have been so disappointed to find them closed. At least now I got a parking spot right in front of the shop. I felt like a stalker watching the store for the staff to arrive. While I waited, I got some amazing pizza from the shop next door which for another review. Anyway, shortly after 12 noon, I was able to place my order of 3 boxes of frozen vegetarian dumplings and another box of vegetarian buns. My favorite dishes here are the spicy ground pork black bean sauce noodles (Like $9 for a huge filled-to-the-brim box of noodles and ground pork), or the classic pork and cabbage dumplings. I'm sad that they only have two dumpling options that have chives, and they're the seafood options, but I digress. Portions are pretty generous, service is friendly, and the food comes out hot and fresh The prices used to be in "cheap" territory but unfortunately have gone up over the years to only "reasonable for the area" territory, but they're still very reasonable. We stopped by here with some friends while on campus for a gymnastics meet. It is a small placewith little seating. You can see the chefs work their woks from the ordering area and see the steaming stations. The food was all excellent! we had the soup dumplings, shrimp hargao, kim chee dumplings, mushroom buns, and egg custard buns. They were all very, very good. Highly recommended! We live in Hayward and come here once a month to buy frozen dim sum to steam at home. The owner is super nice and although he's super busy (only one working most of the time) he's always super hospitable and prices are very reasonable. Har Gao Sho Mai and XLB are all highly recommended. My 5 year old can eat 10 in one sitting! read more

Chicken and Shanghai Dumpling are good. The filling are tasty and the skin are soft, I could tell they are freshly made and cooked based on order. The Sandwich is just ok. The place is small, not too many seating. The table is dirty and sticky, they do not clean them after customer left. I would recommend order for take out. read more

My first time trying dim sum ever!!! Wasn't a bad first experience. 4/5! I got the 1. House special ($6~): comes with 6 piece Shanghai soup dumplings and your choice of steamed bun. The soup dumpling was pretty good! I got two of the house specials, one with bbq pork steamed bun and egg tart steamed bun. The steamed buns were 1/5. 2. Pork dumpling w/ nappa cabbage 12 pieces ($6.39 w/ cash, $6.89 with card): this was kind of sweet, I didn't like it very much. Overall, not bad!! read more
