The space is very open, and you can watch the person hand wrapping the dumplings right outside their kitchen. All the dumplings and buns were done really well - seasoned great, perfect amount of soup in the right dumplings. Exceptional XLB dumplings! The pork XLBs are 8 for $15.95 b if the dumplings are super juicy and soupy, tasty, and don't rip apart when picked up with chopsticks. If anything, go for their steamed dumplings. We also ordered their Dan Dan Mein (peanut noodles), and their Siu Mai (pork and shrimp dim sum dumplings). All menu items were delicious. The service was great. The two waiter/waitress were attentive (maybe the owner). The restaurant itself is modern and has a ton of tables. Street parking. I was excited when my husband told me that they opened a new location in Oakland on Lakeshore. I've been to their other location in Walnut Creek and loved it. We decided to stop by (without a reservation) to celebrate Father's Day around noon, and I was surprised that there wasn't a line. I really liked the simple decor and how clean it was inside. Pretty standard fare of a dumpling spot, there are so many nowadays it's hard to keep track of the suffixes and also we thought all of the crockery and tableware is identical to somewhere like dumpling home in the city. Anyhoo, steam pocket with chives was not the greatest, it fell apart easily and it pretty bland. However that was quickly turned around by the spicy pork xiao long bao, great flavour and soupiness! It's not that spicy but enough to give a great taste. I would not recommend the steam vege bao, but there's not many options for your non meat eating friends out here. HOWEVER, the piece de resistance. The ginger and scallion noodles. Oh my god they know how to coat a noodle in oil and it's fricking fire. We arrived and there were only 3 other parties there so service was perfect, extremely attentive even poured my brother in laws beer for him. Now the food, all of our food was delicious!! My favorite was the spicy wontons w/ sesame sauce they were DELICIOUS. The cucumber salad was a perfect fresh side and a little palate cleanser in between. We are visiting Berkeley and staying in Oakland. My daughter and I are at Impassions of Lanzhou near the campus and it was amazing. And then I noticed the reviews for this spot and so the whole family came for dinner. Wow are we glad we came. The food was top to bottom delicious. Service nice and friendly. They fit us in 30 minutes before closing and we ordered so much and not one bite leftover. Husband is fussy as he lived in China for a long while and he was thrilled. Wish we had more places this good in LA. And we have good places don't get me wrong. But we liked this more. Plus the ambience is charming. Highly recommend. I have never been so disappointed by this restaurant and I've ordered from here many times. I was feeling sick so I ordered some wonton soup and it was a black sludge of seaweed, which is a pretty big departure from any wonton soup I've ever had. You should definitely disclose this before someone drops almost $20 on a container of kelp. I also ordered some egg rolls, which were categorically inedible. My partner is a not at all picky garbage disposal and they spat it out. The whole thing had been fried at too low a temperature and then not properly drained, so oil would dribble down your chin every bite. But it's also clear these had been frozen so badly that the julienned veggies inside had formed a breen uniform oily paste. Two stars for the decent pan fried dumplings. Partner says their Hot and Sour soup was neither and had a taste they can only describe as "sweaty". All that for about $70. I feel sicker than I did when I ordered. Thanks guys... read more

There's lots of paid street parking on the main road. Park in the neighborhood and walk a little farther if you want free parking. You can't miss it on the main road though! Very walkable to the lake, grocery store, other restaurants, etc. When we arrived, we were seated immediately and service was just as quick throughout the meal. They gave us menus but you can also view the menu and order on the QR code on the table. Their staff also came around to take orders so you've got options if you prefer to order with a person directly. You do have to pay with them directly though. We ordered: + green onion pancakes ($9) - thin, crispy, savory. I don't usually go for green onion pancakes but these were good and still tasted good even after reheating the leftovers. + string beans sauteed with garlic sauce ($14) - always a fave. you can't go wrong with this if you like garlic orrrr if you're like me and don't normally like veggies + steamed pork buns (3 pcs for $12) - a classic. the buns were soft and fluffy and the pork filling was delicious. + dan dan sesame paste dry noodles ($16) - good, but I prob won't get it again next time. Delicious! All the classics are executed nicely here and delivered hot (which matters a lot of dumplings!). The pork xiao long bao is flavorful and well-executed; nicely cooked with a delicious broth. Must-get. The steamed pork buns, are hearty and satisfying, while the string beans sautéed with garlic sauce and juicy pan-fried pork buns are both tasty. My personal favorite? The braised beef noodle soup--rich and comforting and perfect for the winter months--and the pork wontons with sesame sauce and chili, which are absolutely delicious with a tasty sauce. The dan dan sesame paste dry noodles are also executed well. The only downside is the price point is a little higher than your typical hole-in-the-wall dumpling spots. Had a great lunch at Dumpling Hours! I'm so glad there's a spot like this here in Oakland. I came for Saturday lunch around 11:30 with a party of 7. It's a large space and still a bit early for lunch, so it was easy for us to get seated. The menu is straightforward, with one page of drinks (beer, wine, tea, etc.) and one page of food. We ordered a variety of XLB / soup dumplings, pan fried pork buns ($14.95 for 6), string beans ($13.95), beef pockets ($13.95), and dan dan noodles ($15.95). You can order the XLB in orders of 4 or 8, so it's good for small and big groups to share. They run about ~$2/dumpling for the pork and beef and ~$3/dumpling for the crab and pork. Our favorites were definitely the XLB and the pan fried pork buns. The skin was very thin and there was a lot of soup inside the dumplings. We tried three different types -pork, beef, and crab & pork- and my favorite was probably the pork. I'm not sure if the crab & pork is worth the extra $$ since I couldn't really taste the crab. Everything else was also solid except for the beef pockets. Wouldn't recommend that as I found it a bit dry. Service was also good here. They kept refilling our waters as we slowly ate and chatted.
