A solid dim sum place but a bit on the pricey side. We got siu mai, Chinese broccoli, and more. All the dishes were good but nothing really stood out. No complaints except the price. Service is efficient and friendly.

Came to East Ocean in Alameda for lunch and had a bit of a mixed experience. On the plus side, there's plenty of parking and a lot of seating, which makes it easy for larger groups. The food also came out quickly and was hot, and overall everything we ordered was delicious. Unfortunately, the service really missed the mark. There seemed to be a lot of staff, but it was hard to get what we needed--we had to ask multiple times (and sometimes ask different servers) just to receive basic things. Great food, but the service left a bad taste in my mouth.

We had a lunch event for sixty people on a busy Saturday in December. David the manager assigned us the large side room that can fit up to 100+ diners. So happy to have the private side room. Our event went from 11:30-2:30 with lunch starting at noon. Angela was our primary host / server and coordinated the start, timing of dishes, change out of plates, etc.. she was highly professional! We had main dishes of: Peking Duck in which the duck skins and buns came out preassembled along with a second plate containing the remainder of the carved-up duck, Walnut Prawns were my MIL's favorite, and Double Lobster Noodles which was a hit for all of the seafood lovers. For Dim Sum, we had: Beef Cheong Fun, Sui Mai, Chicken Feet, and Chicken Sticky Rice,. We wrapped up with Dessert of: Pineapple Custard Bun, Matcha Lava Bun (nice and runny), and Black Sesame Roll. All of the food was excellent and our party had a great, non-rushed event. Kudos to David Chan and Angela for carrying out a smooth and well run party. Thank you.

Have been here for lunch and for dim sum. It's a great space to go for a nicer family gathering as they it's a little more upper scale compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area -especially since they remodeled. We came for an early CNY lunch and decided to do ala carte versus a preset menu. The lobster yee mein, duck, and ginger scallion beef were my favorites. Small parking lot, otherwise there is ample street parking. The restaurant can easily fill up-especially on a weekend. We came for lunch on a Saturday at 11, and by 1130 the whole restaurant was packed-so plan accordingly!

Great place to just have brunch or to celebrate a special occassion. They also have a parking lot in back. Food: 5 star Service: 4.5 star Ambience: 3 star (traditional dim sum) https://www.threads.com/@travelinglilley/post/DY0d3FKE_Br?xmt=AQG0MR6uQ2VLiTx6VjHiO_ZwReJIvA8RiotadhGTFX0aJUEz4CRbGchkRkEMkTwZlF46Sgv8&slof=1

Another great meal, tried black pepper chow mein and beef was juicy and flavorful. Starchy noodles and smooth beef ball. Fast service and clean space. Always glad to come back!

Always great to come back here for comfort food. We had hot bowls of West Lake Beef soup on this cold winter night, beef Chow fun dry Hong Kong style with great flavor ( wok hey). Service excellent, they make sure your teapot is filled. They served peanuts, fried shrimp chips and pickled cucumber as appetizer to everyone.

Monday Labor Day morning and we were trying to figure out what to get for brunch after a day and night of partying. Looked on Yelp and dim sum looked appetizing! It was a very busy lunch time in Alameda and parking was a bit difficult because it was so busy so we had to circle around for a while. We had a party of 5 and the wait was about 20 minutes but they had a bar! So we went in and got a round of drinks, tequila sodas, lychee martinis, and mimosas on the house for the ladies. We even ran into a local Bay Area rapper Plo who was also waiting for a table. Going to the bar made it fast and it was a busy morning there. Lots of workers with their dim sum carts so we got what was being passed around. We got pork siu mai, shrimp hargow, xlb (we're not soupy), shrimp and beef rice rolls, chicken feet, honey walnut shrimp, guylan, seaweed salad, pork belly, duck, we ordered stuffed eggplant from the kitchen. For dessert we got some egg tarts and sesame buns. We also got an order of hot jasmine tea. We ordered more than enough and had some leftovers for lunch the next day. Service was quick, very family oriented but they didn't give us a menu so we went with what we knew and what they came by with. A perfect place for all party sizes, big and small and quick service. You can enter either through the back or front. The workers were very friendly and hard working!

I would rate this place 4.5 out of 5 but rounding up to five. We stopped by this Chinese restaurant while visiting Oakland with family after it was recommended by a family friend who lives in the area. We had a group of nine adults and ordered a lot of food, and everything was excellent. The portions were very generous, and the flavors were delicious across the board. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and very kind. We arrived about fifty minutes before the end of their lunch hours and ended up being the last table still eating while they were closing up and getting ready for dinner. Even so, they let us stay and were attentive the whole time, which we really appreciated. The crispy noodles were a favorite, and all of the salt and pepper seafood dishes we ordered were outstanding. Overall, the food was delicious, the service was warm, and the experience left a great impression. Definitely a spot worth visiting when in the area.

Just wanted a simple Chinese comfort food dinner after a long day. Usually go to East Ocean for dim sum or for a family event. Stopped by and it was bustling with all size groups. We were seated right away and just craving simple comfort food and they did not disappoint. Dry fried beef chow fun, salted fish and chicken fried rice, and pea sprouts with garlic. Yummmy and HUGE portions (there were only two of us). Each were so flavorful and hit the spot. And enough leftover for dinner for at least two more meals.

as of today, they still have pushcarts :) definitely one of the remaining ones in the bay area! we walked in on a sunday and did not have to wait -- the restaurant is pretty big and spacious with high ceilings. we weren't given menus, just had to observe the carts. the food was good, my only complaint is that the carts took a while to rotate and roll by, so there were some moments we were just waiting as we had finished our dishes but no carts had come by us. we also had to ask for some specific items because we never saw them on the carts, but they brought them to us on carts afterwards. so it might help if you know what dim sum you want

Yummy and sweet steamed custard bun.

I was dining alone and ordered only shrimp dumplings and a glass of Chardonnay, yet the wait was excessive. The wine arrived in what looked like a tasting-sized pour, and at $16 a glass, it felt particularly disappointing--especially since it was the only white wine option available. The restaurant itself felt neglected. The tables were wobbly, the décor was dated, there was a noticeable cigarette smell, and I even had to replace my own chopsticks after noticing lipstick on the pair initially provided. After waiting so long for my food, I stood up to ask for my check and cancel the order. At that point, the dumplings suddenly appeared, along with an offer of a fried bun as compensation. I declined and suggested they at least comp the wine given the experience, but they did not. The final bill was nearly $30 for a mediocre glass of wine and shrimp dumplings that were undercooked and unappetizing enough that I threw them away after a few bites. If you're looking for a quick meal before a movie, I'd strongly recommend going elsewhere. This was a disappointing waste of both time and money.

Their steamed dumplings are also about 25% larger than your typical dim sum dumpling. I tried the round and crescent moon shaped ones. Both had a good ratio of filling, the dumpling skin was not too chewy, and tasted pretty good too. The fried sesame ball was also sizable, but really doughy and not my favorite. Had a thick mochi skin, compared to the red bean filling inside. It was pretty crowded on a weekday at 10:30am but the line moved quick. Also this is CASH ONLY payment.

Used to really enjoy this spot but hadn't been in years so recently gave it another try and I'm so…read moreglad I did! When we first walked in, no other diners were there which made me a little suspicious. We were promptly seated and offered hot tea though so we were locked in. I initially ordered to seafood claypot but was told it takes 45 minutes...so pivoted to chicken wonton soup (no noodles). My partner got kung pao chicken. while we waited for our food, a handful of people came in to pick up their to go orders, which made me feel better. Another party eventually dined in as well. Fyi the interior isn't much to write home about but comfortable. Then the food came. My soup was freaking delicious! Loads of chicken meat (just chopped up with the bones so be careful for shards), plenty of dumplings, and the broth was sooo good! I couldn't finish and took some left overs home; the next day, my soup coagulated (full of collagen)!! Partner enjoyed their kung Pao chicken but said they'd order something else next time. Best part - our meals + tax came out to less than $40! Gawd I love Chinatown!

Everything came out fresh and hot, very delicious. I used to come here when I worked in the area, so it's very nostalgic. I highly recommend this place and would come back again!

Prices are a tad higher than others, but quality and service makes up for it. Service at a dim sum restaurant? Yes! The staff here are all very friendly and you can tell they're all about hospitality. Overall, every single dish we had was top notch and it's a good thing we don't live that close or we might end up looking like those piggy baos they have on the menu lol. I also didn't realize how big the place is! So big, they have two sections. The front is the usual noisy dim sum setting where you'll see the servers carrying trays or pushing carts of items to pick from by your table. Then you have the "quiet" back section where it's less hectic and offers more tea selections, but you can still order everything from the full menu.  What we ordered: * Baked Portuguese Egg Tarts * Chicken Feet w/ Black Bean Sauce * BBQ Pork Rice Noodle * X.O. Sauce Pan Fried Rice Noodles * Siu Mai * Shrimp Spring Rolls * Spicy Dumplings in Chili Sauce * Salt & Pepper Calamari * Jasmine Special Tea
