Love this place! It's one of my favorite places to eat in the area! The inside is beautifully decorated and makes for a nice atmosphere. It isn't usually loud inside even with multiple parties coming in. It's not too big inside, so larger parties may want to check in before coming by. The service is great! Fast and friendly :) Usually I order and it's ready after 15-20 minutes if it's not too busy. The food is great! I have tried different dishes abe my personal favorites would be the Guilen noodles and the West-Lake Dongpo pork belly rice plate. The portions are pretty big good for 1-2 people. The also have lunch specials, so some menu items are marked with an asterisk for a reduced pricing. It's actually a very good price point for the area even with lunch pricing. Anyways if you're looking for a nice dining place with or without extra company this place is great! Even just dropping by for takeout, it's a nice comfort food at home or work :)

Simple, no frills restaurant with plenty of noodle dishes. I did wish they offered more vegetable dishes, but didn't see too many. I got a vegetarian hunan hot and sour soup noodle ($14.95) and had enough for 2 meals. It's not super spicy, and I thought it was reasonably priced. Again, I think if they added a few leafy greens, it would make the experience more enjoyable - at least for me! My partner got the chicken rice plate ($15.95) and he enjoyed the rice more than the chicken. Man ate the whole mountain of rice and this is from someone who doesn't really eat carbs! I stole some pieces of broccoli off his plate (can you tell I really like my greens?). It also came with a pre-packaged side of ginger scallion sauce, which was good, but I thought the packaging was unnecessary and quite wasteful, especially by Berkeley standards. Service was fine. They served the food and filled our waters every so often. Bathrooms were also surprisingly clean for a Chinese food restaurant.

Surprisingly delicious and filling meal! We came at 1:15 PM on a Sunday, and there were plenty of empty tables. Food and service were quick and efficient. Portions were generous and filling, and price point is very reasonable. The interior and bathrooms are super clean for such a legitimate Chinese restaurant. The restaurant is a block farther than the central hustle and bustle of downtown Berkeley/UCB, so it is easier to find parking near the restaurant. Starters: garlic cucumber and spicy cabbage were both delicious cold plates that came out immediately Entrees: hainan curry chicken is a sweet coconut milk type of curry with shaved coconut on top. the chicken chunks were the perfect texture and super tasty. my partner got the xinjiang lamb soup, and although it looks plain, it's very flavorful!

Delicious beef noodle soup Taiwan like.

Wow! Best beef noodles soup. Chewy noodles, rich broth. Flavor is Taiwan like. You got me at first spoonful. Nice space, clean, airy & light. Lady server was very kind too. Attentive & efficient. I will travel from SF, take the red line Richmond train to Berkeley just to have your beef noodle soup

Came here on for a weekday lunch and we were so surprised to find so many nice decorations and very high ceiling in a small unassuming storefront. We were immediate seated. Ordered the xinjiang lamb bowl and yunnan over the bridge to share between two people. Noodles came pretty fast! So homey and nourishing. Great portions, very fast and attentive service. The soup was very mild and not too salty or heavy at all. Like something my mom would make when I got sick. Good portion of fish and meat as well. Overall would recommend!

I typically notice this place when I drive or walk by and on today's walk, I decided to go inside because why not. Inside is very spacious with lots of seating. There's tables as well as high chairs and bar seating. It's modern, but not that modern in terms of the decor. Service is quick and friendly and the food arrived in about 10 minutes. I got the Beef Tendon stew and it was delicious. Bowl of plain noodles, topped with tendon and flank, cilantro, pickled vegetables, peanuts, and this fantastic sauce that was slightly sweet and savory that added so much flavor to the dish. It was a nice portion and well worth the price. Overall, this place has amazing dishes with a wide variety of dry noodles and noodle soups so if you're in the area, go check them out!

Solid spot for Chinese noodles and dumplings in Berkeley! The portions were generous and pickup was easy when ordered online. There's a decent amount of seating inside and this restaurant is conveniently located close to Berkeley campus in downtown.

Came to Berkeley for an event and needed a place to eat for an early dinner. I was craving Chinese and noodles with soup and Noodles Fresh popped up. It had what I was looking for and had good reviews so my boyfriend and I decided to give it a go. It was early so we were the only ones there, so it was quiet, but we didn't mind. There's the option order through their website/QR code on the table or the waitress. I ordered the Taiwan Beef Noodle Soup and my boyfriend got the Hainan Chicken Rice Plate. We shared a scallion pancake as an appetizer. I'd say the portions are a decent size and will keep you full. My noodle soup was perfect and exactly what I wanted. The Hainan chicken was really good and my boyfriend had to complaints eating the whole thing. The scallion pancake was flaky and had enough filling inside. Overall, the food was great and would come here again. It would be a spot I would take my family!

We visited Noodle Fresh with high expectations. The service was excellent -- friendly and attentive -- and the space is surprisingly large, though it wasn't very crowded when we went. As for the food, it was a bit hit or miss: * BBQ Pork: Unfortunately, this was a bit too tough and lacked flavor. * Vegetarian Goose: Had a good seasoning, but the texture could've been softer -- it felt a little off. * Guilin Beef Noodle Stew: We thought it would be soup-based, but it turned out to be dry noodles with sauce. That said, the sauce had a nice savory-sweet balance. We'd actually give this dish another try. We wish we had ordered more from the fresh wok section -- it looked promising, so maybe next time we'll explore that part of the menu more. Overall, great service but the food didn't quite live up to the hype. Rating: 3/5

Nice quiet restaurant with a bar. It's a small mom and pop place with lots of seating. Very convenient location. They play jazz music. Great service. The hainan chicken and the "cousin sister" noodles are great.

When I first heard of Great China, I assumed it would be more of a casual neighborhood mom-and-pop…read morespot, but I was definitely wrong. It's actually a popular, higher-end Chinese restaurant in downtown Berkeley, and judging by the number of people waiting to be seated on a weekend only 30 minutes after opening, it clearly does very well. One note: I often see long weekend lines forming even before opening, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation or arriving early. We came here with one thing in mind: Peking duck. It was prepared beautifully, with the exact nostalgic flavor and crispy skin I was hoping for. I also loved the way they presented the thin pancakes--half-folded and slightly overlapping each other--so you didn't have to worry about peeling each layer apart and accidentally ripping them. The dipping sauce and green onions were provided on the side, though I do wish they included thinly sliced cucumber to complete the experience. My husband also ordered the fish, which turned out soft, delicate, and delicious. It was a nice complement to the duck and rounded out the meal really well. My only real critique of Great China is the pricing. You're definitely paying a premium here, but the food does taste authentic and well-executed. Given the limited competition in the area, I can see why it feels justifiable if you live nearby. That said, it may not be as worth the splurge for people who already have easy access to more traditional, old-school Chinese restaurants.

The cumin lamb was no longer 90% peppers but a generous portion of lamb and a good ratio of peppers. The crispy chicken appetizer was delightful. The dry green beans had a snap. I thought everything was solid top to bottom, but here is my ranking in descending order: Braised Eggplant Tofu Clay Pot - I generally like this dish everywhere and they have a good version on this here - seasoned well, tender eggplant, and nice texture on the tofu Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings - non-traditional "salt & pepper" - thick coating of tempura-like batter, very peppery (black pepper), and wings set on a bed of sauteed onions. Sesame Bread with Green Onion - tasty, but unlike other "da bing" I've had. This was on the thin side, meaning you have a lot more crispy outside compared fluffy inside. This was also lighter on the green onion. Classic Shrimp & Chive Dumpling - can't go wrong with dumplings - an order comes with 12 dumplings, each filled with big pieces of shrimp. I liked the texture but it is a little different - looser filling instead of a solid meat/veg ball on the inside. Original Braised Pork Noodle Soup - I liked the flavor of the soup and noodles. There was a ton of meat (diced) but they were on the tough side.

The daikon balanced out the richness of the meat really well, and overall, I'd say this was a very satisfying meal. The beef and tomato lo mein, on the other hand, was probably closer to a 2.5/5. The dish leaned heavily on the tomato flavor, only had a few pieces of meat, and definitely needed additional seasoning, such as soy sauce, white pepper, or something to bring more depth.
