Love that there's a dumpling restaurant on the North Shore! This was previously Happy Garden. And while they haven't changed much of the decor or furnishings, the food has changed for the better. The staff were all friendly, helpful with the menu, and attentive. For the food, we tried several different dumplings and buns... Steamed Pork and Leek dumplings, Shanghai style pan fried dumpling and pan fried pork bun, steamed shrimp, mini juicy bun with pork (soup dumpling)... and all were fresh and tasty. Additionally we had the hot and sour soup (flavorful), scallion pancake (crisp and tasty) and garlic fried rice (bland and generic). As good as the dumplings were though, the star of the show was the Spicy Chicken Wings under the Szechuan Style section of the menu. These were crispy, juicy and had an awesome Szechuan peppercorn spice. So good in fact we got another order to take home. We will be back soon I'm sure read more

Honestly, really pleasantly surprised! We had an excellent meal here and will happily come back. All the dishes we ordered were authentic, delicious, and we appreciated the portion sizes. We definitely got 1.5x what we would normally get in Boston. The restaurant overall doesn't look like much by the side of the road, but you have to come in and give it a try. Went for dim sum at 11 am. Beef buns were to die for, shrimp dumpling were fantastic as well. Free appetizer of crab Rangoon for spending over 40 dollars. Best crab Rangoon around the north shore. The service was excellent, the girl behind the counter was friendly and helpful. It appeared to be a family business. They were not cheap about extra sauses and condiments. Our usual Asian place is closed on Mondays and for some reason my husband only wants to get take out on that day, so I searched for an alternative online. My daughter had a craving for dumplings so I put in Asian Dumplings in my search engine and came up with this place. We ordered five different kinds of dumplings, along with a kind of sushi called Hawaii Naruto. Because we ordered more than forty dollars worth of food, free crab rangoons were included in the order. We were planning on eating our dumplings separate and not sharing, but none of the orders were labeled, so we decided to eat family style, eating two dumplings of each order. Though I couldn't tell the dumplings apart (they all basically had the same flavor) they were juicy and delicious. The Hawaii Naruto was basically a kind of sushi wrapped in a cucumber peel and looked like it had fish eggs in it. I liked it but it was much too spicy for me, so I gave it to my husband to eat. The crab rangoons were okay (Su chang's are much better). They were nothing to write home about, but they were free so I'm not going to complain. All in all, I enjoyed my meal and would go there again, with two caveats: 1. Tell them to label all the food, so you know what order belongs to whom. 2. Don't order the Hawaii Naruto if you don't like spicy food. For some reason, it's not labeled as spicy on the menu. read more

Dumplings are AMAZING... so flavorful and the wrappers are clearly homemade. We got the Shanghai style dumplings, shrimp dumplings and pan fried pork and leek dumplings. The beef chow foon was also delicious and fresh tasting! I normally go to a spot in Cambridge for dumplings. Due to the pandemic, I wanted to find a place closer to home since we could only get takeout. I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty the dumplings were (so much so I ordered 2x in one week). My first order was mini pork soup dumplings, pan fried chicken dumplings, steamed chicken dumplings, scallion pancakes, and crab Rangoon. The second time, I did pork soup dumplings, spring rolls, and pan fried chicken dumplings. Everything was delicious and well seasoned. The soup dumplings do stick to each other though and tear - leaking out the soup. I'm sure if eaten right away in the restaurant, that wouldn't happen. read more

Had their $9.99 dinner combo with shredded pork in garlic sauce and veggie chow mein. It was delicious and the serving size is quite big. Service is good too. The only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the Mongolian beef was super salty. Might just be my personal preference. read more

Bok choy was so salty my cardiologist called me during the meal. The chicken lo mein was so dry is snaked the spit out of my mouth. The avocado salad was the only good dish, but even some pieces were rotten. The pork and leek dumplings were mediocre. Nothing memorable. Sorry Dumpling Garden. The first good legit chinese food we have ordered in the salem area. They have standard american chinese items but also a number of very authentic choices. Mapu tofu was amazing, shanghai style noodles with a beef based sauce was amazing, shrimp steamed dumplings and juicy pork dumplings were as perfect as take out gets basically. For the first time with chinese food I had zero complaints, everything was flavorful and cooked nicely. The heat level in everything was fairly mild, it starts to build after a little but nothing crazy. Order white rice if you want it as it does not come free with your order. read more

Delicious food for a great price. The dining room was very ticky tacky, with plastic utensils. It is definitely a carry out place.

The food was absolutely delicious and it is clearly high quality. Getting the food, however, was frustrating. We placed our order online on Saturday evening and were told it would be ready in 25 minutes. I went to pick up the order only to discover that it was going to take an additional 30 minutes. They apologized politely and told me they were busy so I went home understanding that places are busy on Saturday nights. When I went back that additional 30 minutes later, the food was still not ready and they told me it would be another 20 - 30 minutes. When I complained and tried to explain that this was my second time here to get the food and it would have been nice to get an accurate timing to begin with, they simply brushed me off and said there was nothing they could do. My husband went back the THIRD time 30 minutes later to get the food and asked for a discount - they did oblige after some convincing and apologized again. Come to find out, we get home and we were missing a whole package of juicy buns. Needless to say, we were not satisfied with the service. We will be trying them again because the food was delicious and we're hoping we will have a better experience next time. read more

Tried Dumpling Garden for the first time last night. Kung Pao tofu was very good but only tofu and sauce with three pieces of broccoli, could have used a bit more spice. The veggie dumplings were bland, mostly spinach. The scallion pancakes actually had zero scallions in them-strange. Chicken fingers were average. The online ordering platform says we'd be getting a free order of crab Rangoon with our $40, order but no such luck. I think we will skip this spot and head to Blu Karma in the future. Wow! What a wonderful little hole in the wall. All the dishes were so fresh and delicious. Service was great. Was a bit surprised that they only use paper plates (with a lovely pattern), but somehow added to the overall charm. I highly recommend the Braised Tofu with Vegetables and the Wok Beef with Flat Noodle. Don't expect appetizers to come out first. It just arrives as it's made. Fantastic food and warm welcoming staff that make you feel like friends. My son loves everything dumplings and Dim Sum. And has a finicky taste for "quality"; not cheap frozen low budget crap. We had a dumpling craving and came across this restaurant. Don't be fooled by the nondescript strip mall exterior, the food experience is fantastic. The staff is super friendly. We ordered a large variety to sample the menu and we're very pleased; and couldn't stop eating. High quality homemade food that tasted delicious. Chicken wings were pretty and glossy and nicely fried, but simply bland; the marinade made them edible. Gao chicken wasn't spicy, wasn't savory. Tried everything and all four of us threw it away. Oh my, good gracious! I am delighted to have stopped in for some genuine plumpy dumplings. I was greeted in such a humble manner and was overwhelmed by the delicious smells wafting in air trailing from the kitchen. I had ordered three sets of dumplings of various fillings, steamed and pan fried. About 20 minutes later, the sweet gentleman carried out this heavy bag of food curbside. I can only say that the first bite warped me back to my early childhood years of watching my mom making homemade dumplings.
