I would rate this place a 3.5/5! This is definitely a hole in the wall kind of restaurant without a lot of seating but I went around 4 PM and was able to walk in and get seated right away. They have a few combo options which are good for trying a couple items from the menu, so I got a combo with the scallion oil noodles (I was told these were really good here). Personally, I thought that the noodles were a bit too greasy but overall everything was comforting/tasted like it was homemade. read more

This is not for dine-in but for their to-go pork potsticker and vegetable 荠菜 wonton. I have a sensitive palate and can taste subtle flavors that others might not notice. So basically no pork wonton/gyoza places in metro Vancouver area can pass my bar since I can always taste the very subtle stinky pork in there and it basically means they didn't do correct handling of the meat or the meat is simply not fresh. However their potsticker and wonton is 1000/10. U don't need to pay to eat in, u can just get them raw to go and u can boil a few at home. they are HUGE and so delicious. Literally the only place I'm willing to order wonton and potstickers from here. Their spice oil is also very delicious! They are packed all the time tho since it's a small place, u should go early. And be prepared to wait if u want to dine in. read more

Really liked this place. Ordered the special dry noodle and it was delicious. Portion was decent for $20. Noodle and pork chop was flavourful. Also ordered a combo dish. The dumplings were really good. Pan fried and juicy. The wontons were weak though. The soy egg was delicious. It was one of the better soy eggs I've ever had. Definitely will be back again . There are only 5 tables in this place and they don't have ac. It was pretty hot eating here in the summer. On the upside, they give free bottled water. read more

Food is freshly made and hot from the kitchen. The pan fried dumplings are so good without any sauce. Food came to the table very quickly. The whole restaurant gave a mama papa shop vibe and felt so warm. read more

We stopped by for lunch and the restaurant was packed. There was a line up out the door. You put your name down on a clipboard and wait for your name to be called out. We did not have to wait too long to be seated fortunately. The menu is fairly small. We ordered a combo and added a separate order of dumplings and a bowl of soup noodles to share. This way, we could try all the dumplings. There was complimentary edamame to snack on while waiting for the food to arrive. It did not take long for the dumplings and noodles to arrive. The dumplings were tasty in their own ways. My kid ate most of the shrimp wontons. It was a mix of pork and shrimp. The pan fried pork dumplings were my favourite. It was fried perfectly. The filling was soupy so be careful when eating this dumpling. Next, we tried the pork and veggie dumplings and they were delicious as well. The soup noodle was average. Lastly, the tea egg was nicely marinated. Overall, I recommend everyone to order the dumplings and the dry noodles. Every other table were eating the dry noodles. read more

Got take out from here on a Saturday. Not many people in the store when we got there at opening time. We ordered the first combo on the list which comes with 6 dumplings, beef Curry soup and a tea egg. They don't charge for bags here. The pork dumplings were very delicious. Very different from your usual pork dumplings. They were sweet and juicy. I'm not sure how they make them so sweet (it's not just pure sugar) but wow was I impressed. It is on the pricier side of 10$ for 6 but I could see myself having a craving for these somewhere down the road. The skin is the somewhat thick kind but it went really well with the fresh tasting pork. The owners are super nice and they tell you that these are coming from the freezer so it might take awhile to cook. I personally would skip the curry beef vermicelli soup. It didn't taste much like anything. The beef was kind of overcooked. Not much flavour. Nothing special wouldn't order again. The set comes with a tea egg and man this egg was flavourful. Sometimes it's hard to get the salty flavour all the way into the inside yolk but they were able to do it. Would come back for the dumplings and the tea egg if I had a sudden craving for it and was in the area. But I wouldn't come all the way over here just to have it. read more

Came here on a Sunday for lunch. Very disappointing experience. We were a party of 4, and were the first ones in-line. Its a really small place and we were seated as soon as a table for 4 opened up. You have to wait outside or in your car as they dont have much room inside to wait. The guy at the door (seems like the boss) offered to get us from our car if we wanted to avoid waiting outside in the cold. There was also one lady serving the tables and a guy cooking in the back. The boss guy did not seem to do much except be a boss and occasionally serve food. Overall, for a small hole-in-the-wall place, service up to this point is fine. Then it went downhill. The one lady serving tables was clearly overwhelmed, unable to keep up with all the customers, and forgetting to offer us water. The boss guy continued to not do much except talk loudly, go out and smoke, and come back in to be a boss again. It doesnt get any better for this guy; he served us a dish and knocked over a tea cup spilling it all over our table. And then told the server lady to clean it up. Fortunately no hot tea spilled on anyone. The lady took our order, and she was genuinely nice. We ordered several things on the menu, in the form of combos and individual items. We tried: The pan fried dumplings - these were good. Nicely textured dumpling skin, nicely cooked and fresh, piping hot. The pork filling was fine and pretty standard, although I wish they offered more varieties of similar dumplings. They just had this one. 5/5 dish for what it is. small and larger wontons - the wonton wrapper had a nice chew. the filling was very mediocre and bland, and the broth it was served in tasted like water with a hint of salt. Seriously not an exaggeration. I would avoid any wonton dishes in soup here. Wonton's i would give 2/5 Curry beef noodle - bland, plain, and just not worth it. 1/5. Dry noodle with pork chop - I got their "ultimate" version which also comes with a side of minced meat and pickled greens toppings. As a noodle dish, it is good. A tad on the salty side, but still very tasty, nicely cooked noodles, and the pork is delicious. The problem is its $29. It is not worth $29 for this, not even close. $20 is reasonable, $29 is ridiculous. I believe it was $19 if you do not get the side toppings, just noodles and sauce with the pork chop. The sides should be included for $19. The dish itself is an easy 4/5, but the ridiculous price for what it is, brings it down to 3/5. tea/soy sauce eggs - could use some more tea flavor but they came with some combos so whatever. Mediocre. They charge $1 per cup of tea and $2.50 for a bottle of water. Its in a strip mall with a few parking spots out front. I would come here for their pan fried dumplings. Maybe get them frozen and cook them yourself at home. The rest of the menu is really disappointing but their fried dumplings are excellent. read more

Tiny restaurant hidden in small strip mall. Only saw staff of 2, guy cook in back and lady in front. We arrive and left before 6pm, so we had no issues getting a table. A tiny bowl of complimentary cold edamame was placed as soon as the menus were placed down. Place was clean and server was pleasant. We read past reviews that they charge for tea and water (bottled water), and best to ask for hot water, so we did that. We ordered their most popular pork chop stirred noodles and Combo D with egg. The noodles were perfectly flavored and pork chops were super tender. The dumplings were super juicy, and giant wonton in simple broth was very comforting. Nothing negative I could say other than that $20 for a simple pork chop stirred noodles is a bit pricy; for this price, it would be nice if they added a few vegetables with the meat. Recommended for people looking for simple home style Shanghainese comfort food. No XLB here, not your usual Shanghai dining, nor recommended for large parties looking for full dining experience; more for quick eat'n run. It's definitely overpriced for what I consider as "fast food" in a diner environment, but it's all good if cost isn't a consideration for you. They only accept Visa with additional 2% charge, cash or debit card. read more

I love dumplings as much as I love sushi (that's saying a lot) and hearing about a new dumpling place nearby meant that I had to visit ASAP. They only have a few things on their menu including their pan fried dumplings and pork and veggie dumplings in soup which we tried in their combo with a tea egg. Don't get me wrong, their food here is good with LARGE soup dumplings that were flavourful and light along with pan fried dumplings that reminded me of shanghainese pan fried pork buns but with a dumpling wrapper. The pan fried dumplings were filled with soup and the wrapper had a great chew! The biggest downside are the extremely high prices but if you're really looking for is good food, you can find it here! read more

Arrived in Vancouver and were hungry and had a craving for dumplings in chili sauce. This place popped up so decided to give it a try. They didn't have the dumplings in chili sauce I was looking for but the food was still great. Our waitress was really nice and helpful. We ended up getting two different sets and sharing the soups. Each set came with their signature dumplings as the main. The dumplings were really flavorful and juicy. The staff kept warning us that it was really hot inside to make sure we didn't burn ourselves. I would describe it as almost a soup dumpling that's fried. Really crispy on the outside and juicy and steaming on the inside. Great food and great service. read more

Simply delicious and healthful food. Had their combo B. Edamame (never thought about these being delicious before!) alone were wonderful.

Just had the most incredible meal at Dumpling King. My partner and I love to try different restaurants and this was superb. The small menu lacks nothing! I had a tea egg, black tiger prawn wonton soup and juicy guo tie panfried dumplings. The wonton was so fresh and tho I generally don't love broth, I loved it so much and drank it all. The dumplings were dipped in vinegar and the perfect crispy shell with a little bit of soup and a generous portion of pork inside. We chatted a bit with the very lovely owners, and will def come back again. read more

I love this place. The gyoza skin is not authentic but the filling and broth is on point! The edamame is a staple appetizer and is seasoned just like in Shanghai. The chef introduced me to the dry scallion noodle and it is perfection. The pork that comes with the dry scallion noodle is super tender. 10/10 recommend! read more

This place is under new ownership and is now called Dumpling King (大王锅贴) but the food is excellent. I am on an extended trip and missing some home cooking. The dumplings here are delicious and authentic. Definitely coming back for more! read more
