soup with large wontons, and xiaolongbao
    Tony J.

Shanghainese food stall in the Admiralty Centre food court. It's a decent sized food court that is a bit hidden away, since the car entrance is on McKim Way rather than outside on Garden City. Food court was busy on a weekday lunch hour. Lao Wei Dao wasn't the busiest stall there but getting some business. This stall has electronic beepers that ring and vibrate when the food is ready. They have a special combo for each weekday. The one I got had a serving of 6 xiaolongbao combined with a bowl of wonton soup. Total was $14. Took about 10-15 min for the food. There were six xiaolongbao in the serving, each on the larger side for xlb. Good broth and filling inside. Not the thinnest wrap but pretty solid. I've definitely had worse xiaolongbao at a restaurant. The wonton soup was good too. It's large wontons filled with pork and a darker leafy vegetable. Tasted like a 50-50 meat to veg ratio, and was tasty. Overall, tasty Shanghainese food for a low price.

The Xiao long bao were very good, very juicy and on the larger size with a nicely seasoned filling and no porky taste. The pan fried dumplings were freshly made juicy and nice and crunchy. The beef foll was in a crunchy fresh made roti with cucumber and hoisin but a bit too salty. The combo deals are a great deal often combined with a wonton soup filled with wontons. Definitely one of the better xlb available in Vancouver. The service is very friendly and welcoming. Bit out of the way in an upstairs food court, but worth finding. I don't often give five stars but the xlb and fried dumplings were very good. Food court atmosphere so not fine dining.

Can you see so oil in greece

Don't waste your money. It's gotta be the worst Shanghai restaurant. I've ever been to horrible very oily. Do not recommend anything for anybody. The only reason we went there because somebody posted was the 5 star Shanghai restaurant. It must be a joke.

Was so sad that Long's Noodle House closed down because of the fire next door and only found out more than a year later where the owner's wife moved. Located in the food court at Admiralty Mall in Richmond with ample parking in and around the building has similar vibes as the Crystal Mall food court but less busy and smaller. Finding a table might be quite difficult during meal times as they don't have a lot of seating available. Of course I ordered XLB and Beef Noodle Soup -- the XLB tasted the similar to Long's while the Beef noodle soup was different but still delicious. Will be back here again and I look forward to trying their other dishes as well as the other food stalls that seem to be really popular.

I came back to this spot 3(!!) times in 2 weeks after my friend first recommended them to me. My favorite items to order were the 小笼包 (xiao long bao) and 生煎包 (sheng jian bao). Both were filled with so much flavorful broth. Seriously, you have to be careful eating these or it can spill everywhere! The broth was so clear but extremely fragrant, while the pork itself was very juicy. The lady in the front (owner?) was also the sweetest. In my third visit, she remembered and greeted me with a friendly smile. I would definitely keep coming back to this little shop inside Admiralty Centre food court!

I came by this little food court to pick me up some mango mochi from a neighboring vendor. Shanghai Lao Wei Dao was one of the only eateries open past 3 on a weekend in the food court, so we ordered noodles from here and they turned out to be fantastic. I'd come back. There is a whole lot to choose from if you decide to eat here. They have a bunch of different noodle soup combinations and different kinds of dumplings. This is quintessential Chinese comfort food here and it did not disappoint. I got the pork chop braised in sauce noodle soup for like $10 USD. It was a perfect amount of food. The soup was dark and flavorful. The choy sum on top added the perfect amount of crunch and freshness. It was great, actually, I can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu. The lady working the register was surprisingly very nice. They're cash only, so make sure you bring cash. The tables are shared with the other vendors, and there is a guy who comes by to clean off the tables. He's very nice too. If I lived in Vancouver, I'd be here all the time. Don't be intimidated! Everyone is so nice here!

Spicy Beef Noodles and Pan Fried Dumplings

This place was less than 10mins from the Vancouver airport, so we stopped by to have a meal after a long day of traveling. We ordered the Spicy Beef Noodles, Pan Fried Dumplings and Spicy Wantons. Each dish was absolutely delicious! We were blown away by the amount of flavor and couldn't get enough. We loved it so much that we made sure to make time before our flight out of Vancouver so we can stop by one my time. The people working were so pleasant. We took a chance and struck gold with this place!

XLB which is Xiao Long Bao, containing ground pork and it's broth, Chinese donuts and Mini Wonton Soup

Went to the Admiralty Food Court which is located on the second floor at 8700 McKim Way to test out Kam Ho's Food Stall Iced Lemon Tea. It was a real April Fool's Day for me because Kam Ho's Food Stall is closed till May 12 since March 30th. The food court looks clean and tidy. It's not a big food court, only 8 food stalls. What a disappointment for me. So went around and checked out the other food stalls. I ended up at the Shanghai Lao Wei Dao that has a daily special for $15 to $17.50 combo. Today is Tuesday, so I got the mini wonton soup and a basket of 5 steamed soup dumpling for $15 and I ordered one Chinese Donut $3. The total came up to $19.75 with a can of $1.75 Coke. The steamed soup dumpling has tasty ground pork inside with a lot of broth. To enhance the flavour and taste of the XLB, add vinegar and the brown sauce in it after sucking up the broth. The mini wonton soup was a little bland, like it has been watered down so I added some of the brown sauce and vinegar from the counter to give it a more tasty flavour. They had added many mini wontons which I think is a lot of wasted labour, because they could have made bigger wontons and just make 6 for each serving. The donut was crispy, it was good but not as good as the Chinese Baoxi Master. The lady cashier was pleasantly nice and smiley.

Hei Hei Rice Roll is legit good, totally recommend, even my daughter too, I thought of her ( since she LOVES rice roll and couldn't make it on this trip with me) while enjoying these roll but when I shared with her the photos and mention that we will go back here with her- she already visited. She said it was so good! Hei Hei Rice Roll is located at the Richmond Public Market, oh wow - this place is really popular, on the 2nd visit I was the first in line then the line wasn't so long but while waiting for our order, the line got super long. I was lucky I didn't wait long in line. Best to arrive early. I am not sure what the secret to the rice roll but Wow, it's so thin, silky, smooth texture with the toppings, so great together. The last 2 times we had rice roll with my daughter at Portland and Seattle- followed per Instagram reels- those did not even compare to these rolls. My first visit I got the combo which is the best deals, starts at $15.50 but depends on what you select for the selection for rice rolls and congee. I got the pork & preserved egg congee, shrimp, mushroom, pork rice roll. The 2nd visit I got the combo again, with liver & preserved egg congee, scallop and shrimp rice rolls, but I got my order wrong for the roll- they missed the shrimp. fyi-I found out that bean sprout, corn, toppings are free! Both combo came out to $17. super cheap! Cash only, they take USD but its the same dollar $ value. I wish they take credit cards, hehe. & the Verdict: Yummy, the congee hits the spot for comfort food, loved how it is cooked and they add peanuts too. Love the packet of sauce for the rice rolls, the umami-ness, so good. Best to eat it hot and fresh! Don't forget to ask for chili sauce, to add that extra spicy kick! For now, I am not sure I'll ever find a spot that is closest to Hei Hei for my congee and rice roll fix until I get to visit Richmond, BC again.

Also, my Taiwanese friend said this was the best in Richmond so I think that's a good sign. The friends I have brought here have also enjoyed it and would come back. I also like their deep fried items, having tried their chicken nuggets and squid tentacles. I want to try their other appetizers as well. Their menu is quite extensive and also has a dim sum section. I notice a lot of customers ordering their drinks too, although I have not tried any myself. Service is very good and attentive. They are not short staffed here at all. The staff are always refilling your tea, which is delicious. I will definitely be back. The restaurant is a decent size, so even if it is busy, there shouldn't be too long a wait. Plus you can add yourself to the waitlist online before arriving, if needed. Since it is in a strip mall, parking is free and always available and you can do some grocery shopping in the area afterwards.

We also had to enjoy a "frozen HK milk tea" with it! Frozen here = chilled and it's served in a big bowl of ice so you don't dilute the rich flavor of the tea! As a non Chinese speaker in a rich Chinatown, service and communication can be challenging but that was not the case here at all! The staff was so welcoming, happily spoke English and helped us where necessary and made the visit incredible! It started because we saw signs saying cash only, but had not exchanged USD, and they quickly told us CC was welcome with an added fee, which we happily paid. I'm so glad I found Yin Ji and made the trip to get here during my time in Vancouver. If you're a fan of Chinese cuisine, especially breakfast and lunch staples, this is a must!

What's appealing here is that their Instagram advertises daily specials so you can get some dishes for a great discount (like 40% off). We tried the braised combo (pork ear, pork intestines, fish cake), Taiwanese egg wrap, braised pork sauce rice with deep fried pork chop, and yam taro mochi balls. The braised combo is pretty solid - I didn't really like the funkiness to the intestines (I generally enjoyed it in barbecue settings) but the fish cake was fantastic. I also liked the texture of the pork ears. The Taiwanese egg wrap was a bit tasteless, so I wouldn't recommend. Braised pork sauce rice is the lu ruo fan which is a large portion with seaweed, bean sprouts, and soup on the side. Pork chop was flavorful and juicy but not crispy batter, which is okay. Yam taro mochi balls were sweet and chewy. I don't like taro but I loved this dessert! Service is okay. They give a water jug for self pour but the water jug was of questionable cleanliness. The specials were not discounted so we called it out and we weren't told that we had to put the order with a server, not the QR code, so it was a strange interaction. They ended up honoring the discount. Also, they shut down ordering 1 min before 10:30pm - guess they didn't want more money as we wanted to order 1 more dish and they preemptively told the kitchen to close. Sure it's fine no big deal, it was a lot of food.

We came at the perfect time since a line formed after we got seated The tea was served in a lovely big pot too, it honestly felt like I was in China again. I'd been wanting to try some Xian specialities: particularly liangpi and paomo. My group shared two liangpi (the classic and the sesame, these were around 8-9 dollars each and you could probably eat one as a meal or share with someone as an appetizer/side), a biang biang noodle in Xian pork vinegar soup as well as a lamb paomo. Both liangpis which are cold chewy noodles were flavourful and had a great texture (I think I'd recommend classic if it's your first time!) What blew me away was the biang biang soup, the pork pieces were generous and the vinegarness of the soup was very unique. The paomo had vermicelli and lots of soaked bread pieces and lamb: much more gentle and lamb flavoured. Overall, portions were huge and the bill came out to around $55 for everything which was more than reasonable! Note that if your bill is under $30, they only take cash and if over, debit is an option but no credit. I'll definitely be back to this spot ‍

The biang biang noodles had a really delicious sauce and the texture of the noodles made it stand out. It's very wide and had a nice chew (this might become one of my favourite noodle dishes)!
